I am still not convinced that Prince and Beast Claude share the same sculpt?

 

Yeah, the exchange rate has gone down quite a bit. Lately it's been hovering between 10.50 and 11.00 USD. At the current exchange rate Ryoma would be about 1600 without shipping.

 

Actually the exchange rate is up from where it was not long ago. It's currently 94 yen to the dollar. That would make Y138,000 = $1464. A bit more with tax but still not quite $1600.

 

I was not sure either to begin with, but their heads are described as "Claude base head" on Volks USA site and as "Claude common head" on Volks Japan. It is easier to see on owners pics like in owakoblack's Gallery post.

 

With tax it's 1541.00. I just rounded it up because it really all depends on who's rate your using. I use the exchange rate converter on Big in Japan's website as they are generally pretty close to what I end up having to pay after paypal and or my bank converts the JPY to USD.

 

The yen price is down now but looks like that for dolls from last Dolpa it was still around 76,38. Claude the Prince is 120,750 yen divided by 76,38 is $1,581 (yes, it's his price here in the US). Same with Beast price 136,500 yen / 76,38 = $1,787.12 So, I guess if they will not change exchange rate then yeah, the Ryoma will be with the same price as the Beast for us -_-

 

I'm just gonna go sit over here and cry about a Piccolo release. Out of the myriad of dolls I have sold over the years, my Piccolo is the only one I've ever regretted selling.

Ryoma is pretty cute, though I will forever just think of Gintama when I think about his character. The smirk is pretty accurate. Ryo's design for this really is making me think of Nouhime from Sengoku Basara.

 

Thanks for your encouragement Fransyung! I fear that I'm teetering on the edge of temptation over this guy already. But I'm held back by the fact that he's an SD17 when I prefer my fellas to be...uhhhh...huskier. Still though, I've seen that smirk before....my Yo-Isao "Smike" has it, and that's led to no nothing but trouble here in the Riedl country home. It's that little scamp's fault that a cranky little warrior dude Bontenmaru, now more correctly addressed as "Hero Imperious" dained to reside with us. LOL! :lol

Ahhh darling Anthony... I hardly know if I should kiss you or kick you for starting this thread and then posting all those nice, big, photos!!! LOL! I said it before, just when you think you're out, Volks drags you back in! I was even thinking that Sakamoto reminds me of you...especially if I nickname him "Saki"...ah the memories! LOL!

This is probably the most attractive couple to date, IMO, and I dearly LOVE that type of costuming.

 

I am DOOOMMMMMMMMMEDDDDD. Ryoma and wife, a must have for a fan of that historical period....

I'm not really one for boys, but wow, Ryoma is AMAZING O_O I've been looking for exactly that for sooo long! I keep thinking how I could make it work but we're moving this month and having to buy lots of new appliances
as well...man I just don't know if I can make it happen. Not the time to fall in love with an SD17 boy! However, if I can't get him at least I can console myself with Anne (I hope)...I've wanted Anne for ages and she rarely
goes on sale even on Y!J. But wow, Ryoma. So awesome, and even has the pistol! How to make it work XD That's assuming I can get through practically every other person at the AE who will want him!

Such great releases this round, seriously.

Closet cleaning already started but that was for Reisner.

Ryoma fits into my team for sure, he can practice sword with F38 Himura, talk politics with Nanjou and talk guns with Howl. If Reisner joins us, he can discuss ships with Reisner. He can wrestle with SD16 Yukinojo who is ready to punch that smirk on his face. He's just perfect for us.

But I don't have the cash for him. I am incredibly unlucky in lotteries. I don't understand why I'm so greedy. Don't I already have many handsome boys? I'm scared of Volks.

 

Definitely gonna try for DD Asuna. I'm a huge fan of Sword Art Online. I hope I get her. =)

I was trying to read the Chinese/Japanese characters for Ryoma's name. Correct me if I'm wrong but his name (Chinese characters) when translated into English means dragon horse? My ability to read Chinese is worse than French.

I love Ryo with that gun. My kind of girl; chins-up with attitude! If my mom sees her, she'd ask about the fabric of her kimono. This is where seeing her in real life is better as fabric and embroidery is often not clear in photos. Both my mom and I love dolls in kimonos.

I think both of the larger dolls are adorable, but I am struggling to resist little Piccolo! At least you don't crumble from tinies They like to multiply!

Hehe, Ryoma DOES have western shoes with his shinsengumi uniform. Just like Wikipedia said.

Wow, he is really gorgeous! From one side in profile, he's all serious and soulful, and you can see those white teeth like he's about to speak; but from the other side he's all mischief. I've never seen Volks actually sculpt a smirk before. ^^ He does put one in mind of Spike from Cowboy Bebop a bit, between gun + smirk. He also has great hair.

PS. @ julidc, yesss, yes, come to the dark side... more tallboys... more tallboys... Anyway how could you possibly deny Joe a nice new frenemy to fight with at home? (That IS how they proliferate, btw. Anchor dollies. Fear 'em.)

 

Hey Jenny, on the page it says (in red) *In order to give the SD17 "Sakamoto Ryoma" more colorful expressions, his mouth is painted asymmetrically.

So it looks like the sculpt itself has symmetric mouth but the faceup gave him that smirk. ^^

 

I agree with byouyuuken... xD I'm guessing with different face ups he can morph into a lot of characters.

 

Hmm, now that I'm looking at Ryoma's face-up I can't unsee the asymmetrical mouth corner. Kind of bothersome, but I doubt the default face would be a keeper in our household. Do love everything else about him though! Looking forward to finding out when the after event is so we can maybe try for him in Tokyo.

Disappointed at the lack of YoSD attention, *again*... Only two outfits? It is 100% the fault of my personal tastes, but all of their gothic styled YoSD outfits look the same to me. Too bad for me.

 

Oh JennyN...I am afraid...very afraid! LOL! At first glance, my Joe seemed so laid back and rather unassuming...content to cuddle with Honore (SD16 Ruby), but then we all saw the Beast...and Honore sighed or possibly moaned...Joe said he needed a good sparring partner, and the deal was sealed when Volks announced the pre-order. Little did I expect the whole dialogue that ensued with Joe over this smirking "Saki Romeo" guy! I think we're all in serious trouble now!

Now see that smirk is what I absolutely love about him St. James! Anyway, I hope you are able to get him! What a cool souvenir to bring home from a visit to Toyko! Good luck to you!

You're right with the translation of Ryoma's name!
There is a Chinese idiom, "&#40857;&#39532;&#31934;&#31070;", meaning "energetic as a dragon and a horse." I guess Ryoma's name came from this idiom. You know, Chinese culture influences Japanese culture. I was just watching the Japanese anime "Usuouki &#65288;&#34180;&#27185;&#39740;&#65289;," and Shinsengumi's kyokuchou, Kontou Isami &#65288;&#36817;&#34276;&#21191;&#65289;, just said he wanted to be like Guangong in the Chinese novel "Romance of Three Kingdoms."

fransyung, wow, that's great news! ^^ You don't need a guide book for AE, it's just Dolpa ticket. You can also check some information about DP here if you are interested.

 

No, you don't need a guidebook for that. You can go to the After-Event at any Volks store in Japan, and all you need to do is show up before the appointed hour of the day. There will be instructions online (on the AE site) for each individual store, so you will want to read the rules for the store you are going to go to.
