I won the Juuban uniform from VolksUSA. I had already won it in the International lottery, but just in case I ever get a chance to bring Ami home I thought I better get one for her, too

I haven't gotten any shipping notifications from International, either.

 

Hi I would really appreciate some help. Can anyone identify the skin tone of this head? It is either white or semi-white.
It is from 2011 with a "soft" headcap if that makes a difference.

I'm still waiting on a shipping notice from Volks International as well- I feel like we're going to be in for a long wait, considering all of the people still waiting on shipping notifications for non-after-event items!

From the other side, Volks.co.jp informs that shipments of the second bunch of DD Megurine Luka, initially scheduled on the end of November, 2018, and then postponed to the Spring, 2019, should start from February 16th, 2019. So it looks like not everything so bad with Volks today.

(Should I have ordered her on the very first day with full prepayment just to be the last one in the whole world who get her? )

 

I´ve got my ems number for luka yesterday too, man what a long waiting time for a doll that its not a pre order ...... and now i will be waiting 3 more weeks for the slowwwwwwww customs tramits.

And im still waiting for the clothes of 19-1.... so this is very slow.

 

@Kalisha, congrats on good news! And you have stolen my virtual prize for been the last who have got Luka: my girl was so tired be imprisoned in VoksJP for half year so she went home very quickly: I'd expected her next week but she came last Saturday morning!

@DollInk I bought the stands from Volks, it's this metal saddle type stand:

SD用メタルスタンド C (サドルタイプ)

It's pretty sturdy and works well for posing the girls! I prefer them over the waist holding ones because I can hide it under the skirt.

 

I need some stands also but $50 each is way way out of my
comfort zone. I looked on eBay and Amazon for doll stands
and $20+ each seems to be the norm for saddle stands so
I set out to see if I can't build my own. Easy Peasy! It looks as
though I can build them for ~$5 each. For my first try, while
they work, the wire I used is far too soft so I need stiffer wire.
I'll need to order it from Amazon so it will probably be next
weekend before I can try the final design. If anyone is interested
I'll write a quick tutorial describing them.

 

They're definitely not the cheapest but I was pretty worried about dollfies falling over while posed so I went for it. I'm sure you can find cheaper options though - I saw the ones on eBay as well but some of them didn't look strong enough for me. Maybe I'm just paranoid haha I've never owned BJDs before Sailor Moon.

 

I've found the DDs to stand really well to be photographed unlike the resins
that really don't want to stand unattended.

Mars and Mercury arrived today, and they're both adorable! I'm so happy they're finally here! ♥ I haven't had a chance to take pictures, just a quick peek to make sure there was no damage, but hopefully I can do so soon. I hope everyone else who was waiting on one of them is equally satisfied!

 

I got my Mars today and put her into the T*A uniform straight away. She is SO cute but I still don’t understand why they made her wig so... blue

 

Hope everyone is enjoying their girls! Mine showed up this afternoon, I haven't deboxed yet but I did take a look at their faces and swoon, they're so beautiful. I'm truly still in shock that I own them. I'm not quite in the mood to debox (I like to take my time and enjoy the moment) but I'm sure they will be awe-inspiring when I do. I still remember how I felt when I got Usagi, like my heart was exploding lol! Sailor Moon is by far the most important anything ever for me and I've wanted Volks to make an SM line since I was a tween.

Luckily my wig caps came today too so I shouldn't need to worry about staining when I do take them out.

 

It's not a great picture, since they're still wrapped, but I at least wanted to share this! I took a closer picture of each face (also really quickly) that are in my Flickr.

Ami's face is sooooooo cute! ♥ I think she's my favourite so far.

 

I got my Ami put together, except for the earrings- not sure when I'll be brave enough for that bit of fun XD She's so cute! I was really worried about ripping a glove while I tried to get them on, though! I'm also worried about the blue arm band at the top of the gloves staining her, as my body sleeve has no arms...

She has such a sweet and gentle expression.

I´m usually more of a resin-fan but I love every version of Miku Volks has done so far. What do you guys think about Sakura Miku? I have been waiting to see her for a while. While I wish there was at least a full-body shot of her, I´m happy to finally see the prototype and get a release date.
After they didn´t show her for the Kyoto Dolpa (since well.... she´s spring-themed) I was thinking we might see a preorder for a release next spring. - but Dolpa 41? That´s quite soon! Somehow I can´t believe she will be limited to the Dolpa only, wasn´t Luka released like "pick some up at the Dolpa or preorder and get her a few months later"? (Did they announce that there would be a preorder before her release at the Dolpa or later?) Hopefully, Volks will do the same thing here.
Personally, still need to consider... if she´s a preorder doll I won´t bother trying to get her at the Dolpa because I want to have money in case some of my grails get rereleased this year - if Volks actually makes her a Dolpa LE I will have to get her this year because the second-hand prices would be very painful (not that I actually think Volks would do this but still....)

As for the design, I love the subtle pink nails and the overall color palate. Not too sure about the fabric-hairbands. Her eyes look a lot more `round` than regular Miku but I doubt that she would be a different sculpt.. so I guess its just the angle. I don´t know if they used pastels or different colored fibers to get that shaded-effect on the wig but I´m really hoping for the later.
Otherwise .... well she´s Miku so I can´t escape anyways.

And finally, do you guys think she will come with any other outfits? Snow Miku has many because there are just so many designs (and contests for them) - but I don´t really remember any other design for Sakura Miku aside from MAYBE a school uniform version I have seen in some figures.
Not that it would bother me to just have one outfit....but one thing I love about the Miku DDs is all the sets they have been getting, it would be a shame if Sakura Miku only got one....

@silver sycle i saw her this morning! so cute! her eye design is also really pretty.

i don’t think that sakura miku has any other versions! she’s not like snow miku where a new one comes out every year, so i’m honestly surprised that volks is making sakura version as its own doll!

also is it just my imagination or does it look like this one is normal skin instead of semi-white?

 

Now that you mention it...her skin does look a bit more pink-ish but not by a lot. It could also be due to the lighting used in the picture and the colors of her clothing/wig compared to the cooler and darker color palate of regular Miku (which makes her light skin stand out more). I can only really identify skin tones when I see multiple dolls in one picture - I don´t trust Volks photos in that regard.

edit: I think they probably made Sakura Miku because they figured that she would be popular enough to sell her own doll. AND she doesn´t make for a good outfit-set because both Snow Miku and regular Miku´s make up and nails would look a bit strange when everything else is pink... The Deep Sea Girl and Senbonsakura sets worked because although they used different colors (deep blue and dark green), they were still similar enough that Miku´s makeup wouldn´t look weird if she wore them.
The fact that she isn´t as versatile as the other Mikus could mean the Sakura version will be more limited or not rereleased that often because they don´t plan to sell outfits for her - but that´s just an idea.

 

i agree that it will probably be more limited than regular and snow miku! and that’s a good point that the color palette of the sakura outfit might look weird with the previously released makeup!

she might look good wearing the senbonzakura outfit though! i would’nt be surprised if they re-release that set to go with this new miku!

either way, i don’t have a miku doll yet, so resisting these two (especially with the f3 bodies) is going to be tough!

 

I agree regarding the senbonsakura set - although the super dark wig would probably look weird with her light eyebrows (in most photos it could look like she doesn´t have any...) so we´d need to use her default wig. But otherwise, it would suit her.
I did see a few figures where she had braided pigtails or ones where her hair was a bit more pink and she had sakura blossoms as hair-clips instead of cherries ... but I really didn´t see any different `ionic`-look they could do with her.

And I know what you mean... not only are these Miku DDs cute, they are also much more affordable than most resin Volks dolls AND have preorders (so much more time to get weak). I don´t know how I didn´t get Snow Miku on her first release - probably because I actively avoided the website for a while. *I might get her on her next rerelease though*
The only thing I dislike about my Miku is her wig which is awfully tight, but for some reason, the senbonsakura wig isn´t nearly as hard to put on. If you get her I would advise getting one of the special Miku-bodysuits as well since they can sell out fast and get a bit pricy second hand.

And also what´s new about the f3 bodies? *I admit don´t keep up with DD news as well as with SD ones..*

 

it’s funny, i have the exact same situation with len’s wig! his default wig is so tight it can be a trial to put on, but his senbonzakura wig is loose enough to warrant a wig cap! i think it’s because they expect you to only use the defualt wigs with the dolls they came with so they super tailor them to the head, but wigs included with outfit sets are more likely to wind up on other dolls so they stay closer to standard size! just my personal theory.

as for f3 bodies, they improved some of the joint areas, especially behind the knees, to function a little better, but mainly they changed the internal frame so that it is no longer friction tensioned, but tensioned with screws! so if you prefer the posing to be more stiff or more floppy you can change it! idk if this is exciting to everyone, but i love that level of technical customization.

 

Has anyone seen a note whether the 2B DDDy comes with the f3, or it that frame coming with all new DD? It isn't on the list of specs for her.
It does mention she comes with a body suit, but is that the one people buy to protect them from staining?

I love seeing new DD and hearing about lotteries won, but it seems so far away for early winter or whenever my gorgeous girl will ship.

@silver sycle Sakura Miku is very cute, I like her makeup and eyes! Although personally I would go for Snow Miku because she has so many matching outfits to choose from. I'm curious to see if Volks will release any for Sakura Miku.

@petiteballerine somebody already said that 2b will come with f3, but i think that all future dd will be f3, at least until the next upgrade.

 

thanks, @c4tbus - I think the f3 looked like a P to me on my laptop when I ordered since I didn't know what that meant until I saw the special announcement. now that I read it over, they do say all standard DD will have the f3. they'll be so fun to pose!
I see now that the delivery date is 'around fall' 2019. they sound like Dollshe. I could swear it said 'early winter' during ordering.

 

Ahhh! She's so cute! I'm a little worried about the bands of her gloves staining her arms, though...

 

@bronzephoenix You could try lining the bands on her gloves with some paper/masking tape where they would touch the skin. I saw serveral people do that to their fullsets once volks started releasing their skin-tone tape (whatever they call it) with DDs. I used it on accessories like Miku's headphones since they touch her ears.
I don't think you necessarily need to use the Volks' ones - any light-colored tape without strong adhesive should work fine - it just takes some time if you want it to be visible as little as possible.

 

I second the tape, I ordered some to prevent staining from the tiaras. I find the gloves extremely frustrating to put on but for the short time the girls had them on I didn't notice any change.

 

In my experience, the tiaras seem to be more of an issue than the gloves... My Rei has staining on her forehead and above her ears from wearing the tiara for about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the staining info, I removed Mercury's gloves and tiara. Luckily I had her cloth wig cap tucked under the tiara

 

oooh, that's kind of scary about how easily vinyl stains. I have one doll - American Model by Tonner that stained in a criss cross from threads in her coat. I didn't have anything under it. but, she's plastic of some sort. my dozen Cissies have managed to survive either by never having their clothes removed or just being played with a lot and being lucky.
I think I'll be paranoid with 2b. line everything!

 

My girl Shampoo got her twin sister Conditioner today we both are so happy with her.

 

I finally deboxed Ami today, she's so adorable! They did a really great job capturing her character with this sculpt/faceup. Incoming fuzzy pictures because my doll room doesn't have much lighting yet:



She's currently bald because I'm not done styling her wig; I had to straighten out that little kink they put in the front, it just didn't look right, and I always wash new wigs so it's currently drying. The cut is absolutely perfect though- even the back has the exact shape and movement as the anime!

She has two silicone wig caps on right now, because one isn't big enough to protect her from the wig. I don't really want to get her a white protective cap because I really really hate the possibility that it'll show in the front, but I'll probably get one and try to get it to be protective but still invisible lol. Also need to get some more tape for the tiara because my roll seems to have disappeared.

I wonder if that would protect her from the wig cap and be less visible than the white head cap?

The gloves are still not my favorite, it's just such a weird design, but they're OK and I plan on dressing her in more casual stuff primarily so whatever.

Overall I'm in love with her and I'm still completely shocked that I own all three senshi. After I finish styling Ami, I'll debox Mars! I can already tell her wig will need a bit of work.

Also finally dressed Usagi in my outfit from Mellideen on Etsy that I ordered about a month ago! This is my favorite of Usagi's casual outfits from the anime and I'm so happy she finally has it! Just need to make a necklace to go with it.

 

That custom outfit for Usagi is adorable, @lunar-dream304 ! I've been thinking about looking for the exact same one for my Usagi. XD (Also, I agree with you that they did a wonderful job with Ami. She's my favourite of the three.)

 

I do want to warn you guys that I've had the silicon head caps fuse to the vinyl, leaving the company name and a line from the edge of the head cap. I once had a Towa that had "LeekeWorld" stamped into her head that way I only use the cloth headcaps on DD now

 

Wow that's horrifying! I just ordered a pitatto ring for Ami and Rei along with the white protective caps but maybe I shouldn't use the pitatto rings.

It looks like the tape can be used to keep the wig from staining- has anyone has luck with this? The picture has it on the doll's head but I wonder if it would work on the inside of the wig. I don't really care if the top of her head gets stained, I'm moreso worried about the forehead and hairline!

The staining risk freaks me out but I also don't want to see anything peeking out from under the wig (or cause it to scrunch up in the back), it would just ruin the look imo.

 

oh gosh! vinyl is so finicky huh? i guess because it is so porous .....

i recently had my first staining issue with my dd, i got lazy about removing his hands while putting on an outfit, and they got stained just from brushing through the fabric! he’s wearing a body stocking so the rest of him is fine, but i guess it’s time to buck up and order some dream rescue.

 

I wanted to let you guys know -- silicone caps do NOT prevent staining (because silicone is also porous, dye can pass right through). Silicone caps are used to help loose wigs stay in place on smaller heads, add a little extra diameter and grip to the headcap. It's the cloth caps that provide a barrier against stains.

That said! Like @lunar-dream304 mentioned, staining on the headcap is no big deal at all as long as it doesn't touch the faceup. Putting protective tape on parts like the tiara sounds like a great plan.

 

I had no idea that the silicone caps could bleed into the doll head caps Maybe I was lucky in the past that it didn't happen with my caps I got from coolcat since they don't sit too tight around the heads and have no inscriptions.. gotta be more careful in the future

Last month I won some Lotta Mimi eyes on yahoo auctions and they finally came in this week. Tried them on Tama and I love how they make her look

So I just did some Googling because I'm trying to figure out this situation with the wig and how best to prevent staining, and it looks like both the tape and the pitatto ring are a no-go; I've read several horror stories about the Volks skin tape causing damage to the vinyl (somehow the vinyl will form to the wrinkles in the tape if it's left on for more than a week...which, I didn't plan on removing the tape ever so that plan is out) and silicone won't protect from staining and also runs the risk of damaging the vinyl.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm really finicky with aesthetics and I have a feeling it will be impossible to use the white protective cap in a way that provides complete stain protection for her hairline, while also being completely invisible in the front, even with the bangs parted. Has anyone had luck doing that?

I wonder if I can line the inside of the wig with the tape instead of putting it on the their heads? Can anyone think of any issues with that?

It's so frustrating that DDs are so easily stained, vinyl is great and all but I don't think it's so amazing that it warrants these kinds of risks. But I'm a perfectionist to begin with, so that doesn't help lol

 

@lunar-dream304 You could try first soaking the wig in soapy water overnight (it helps remove excess dye), then try lining the wig cap with white stretchy cloth. That way, you could trim the edges so it doesn't show at all. I've had pretty good luck with soaking the wigs then using cloth head caps.

The problem with vinyl (polyvinyl chloride, by technical terms) is as it ages, it loses the chloride ion- the chloride bonds with hydrogen in the air, forming hydrochloric acid (which speeds up the reaction). Generally this happens more slowly than the reaction urethane resin dolls have (adding an oxygen atom), but not always. I had another vinyl doll that yellowed really quickly (for vinyl), and I think it was because it was in a closed box, with nowhere for the hydrochloric acid to dissipate to.

This is also why it's more prone to staining, by the way, plastic doesn't actually have microscopic holes in it unless the mold it's poured into has them. Moral of the story is, while vinyl generally ages more slowly than urethane does, it does not age well- it will eventually (like, 50 years or so) start to disintegrate. It's just the nature of the beast.
