A good friend of mine is getting a Y'shtola as a gift (her wife is amazing like that) but it's her first Dollfie and first doll of this kind. I want to give her advice but I only have resin BJDs and have no direct experience with DDs. What are good links to send her way? I found a few Dollfie beginner videos already for her, but more info would be awesome.

The main thing I wanted to know tho, is if I should caution her to get a body stocking/body suit for Y'shtola, since the outfit is very dark and I know vinyl dolls like Dollfies will stain easily. I was looking at the photos and I can't quite tell if it's lined with a lighter fabric, or if the photos even would show that.

 

It is likely to be lined as volks has gotten better about that but even with lining, black seams can still stain so a body suit would still be something worth investing in if she wants to try to protect the doll. Also would want to make sure that her hands never rest on the dress while displayed.

I’ve seen people posting about their wins since last night, but I am in the no-email boat as well.

 

I have to admit getting a body stocking made me feel much better about dressing my Lina Inverse, even though she does have lining on her outfit. It's a psychological thing I think.

I was so shocked and freaking out this morning over this. I am a big Utena fan and never expected DD's of them. And they look great! I am a bit of a noob with DD's though... does anyone know when they are likely to be available, will they be available international? What's the cost usually of these character DD's? And do you usually have to pay in full upfront? I am wondering if i can manage to get one I would be so sad to miss out

 

We will hopefully know a lot more once volks news drops - in general, a single character DD starts in the 70,000-80,000 yen range but depending on props/accessories the cost can rise. They can be sold by lottery, limited preorder, open preorder or first come, first serve (hopefully will have an answer to that Monday along with price). Most likely will be full cost upfront but sometimes a preorder can be half now, half when shipped. Usually they will be available online for global orders - but again have to wait and see what volks news says to be sure.

Oh no. This is the dream come true. Utena has been near and dear to me for ages. So excited to see how they turn out! …and then weep at what they might do to my wallet.

I never watched Utena but heard it is a yuri anime? so cool Volks is doing dolls from an anime like that. I like both of them, wish I could afford them. If Volks releases Kaworu and Shinji from EVA someday I might die happy!

 

I should probably yell about Utena in here as opposed to the other Volks thread... I really think she's stunning, so I'm going to try my luck in both international and Volks USA lotteries.

It's funny, I'm not as big of a fan of Utena as I am of Sailor Moon, but I think I'm almost more excited about this release than I was for DDS Sailor Moon. The sculpt is just lovely.

 

hello, anybody in here own a DD1 body? I've just adopted a truly ancient dollfie dream (the swimsuited ayanami rei) who looks like she's never seen daylight, but the glue that held her eyes in has seeped all over her head, so I'd like to clean her up. are there any products/methods I should avoid to deep clean the whole gal?

I'm also not 100% sure what parts of her body are supposed to detach from each other - I've got all the string out presently, but do the wrists come out of the forearms? I pulled one of the elbow joints apart by accident and it doesn't seem to click together again as cleanly as before, did I break it?

I'm very new to vinyl dolls, I've owned a few before now (azone iris collect girl, which is obitsu based) but don't know much about them at all compared to resin. but this child called out to me, so I want to take care of her properly!

 

Oh god. If they did Kaworu and Shinji either as DD's or SD's I'd be in trouble. I should really take pictures of my shrine collection of them. And, totally agree on their figures especially of Shinji which were practically non-existent for a while when compared to the others. Thank god for the new Radio EVA figure line.

 

@nocchios here is a stringing guide for DD1. It's often compared to a resin, but is in actuality a unique combination of stringing and internal/hinge joints. There are a few joints that don't come apart (it sounds like you did take one of those apart by accident.)

I'm not sure the hands can come out of the forearm unlike the hand pegs of later DDs, but the hand vinyl does come off the frame in order to be changed (as the DD1 did have option hands exist) so you can do that, with aid of heat if needed, if you need the hands off for a clothing change.

 

Any chance someone has a pic of a DDH-01 head on a DDP body? I'm hoping to see how they scale together, I hear DDH-01 is on the bigger side. Thanks

My Dollfie dream Rin is arriving soon I’m very excited for her to join MOMO!

 

I feel the exact same way. I don't find any of the Sailor Senshi dolls to particularly eye catching. I was hoping they would Pluto but at last

 

Maybe with a rerelease we’ll get the outers

 

So I'm considering doing a mouth mod on a vinyl doll. First time I've done so, though I did very recently successfully mod the eyes on a vinyl anime head. The head I'm looking to mod isn't a DD, in fact it's a 1/6 vinyl anime style head, but I figured this would be a good place to see if anyone else has done mouth mods on vinyl heads. Would love to see others work!

 

I'm so glad I got this outfit for my DDS!
