:: Volks Dollfie Dreams Discussion Room :: Part XV ::

Oct 15, 2018

    1. I've been diving into the realm of Dollfie Dream and I was thinking about how there's only been....3 (Kirito,9S,and Len) male DD models, and that's only been in the past 4 years (Len being the first boy type to release in 2016).
Looking at the Volks website, the Boy type body is EXTREMELY limited. It appears that most people go for a SD or a more realistic brand for male dolls. Or, they get a more masculine DDH and then plop it on a male Obitsu body.
I was more or less wondering what my fellow DD lovers would think about more male DD bodies coming out in the future. Volks seems to be dipping its toes in more and more with this option (or at least, I hope it is). It'd be pretty fun to have a Male DD, so maybe I'm being optimistic with my hopes of finding a DD boy type body outside of Mandarake or hoping on a limited model preorder...:(

    2. If you’re interested in a boy DD, Volks has Dolls Point where they have the DDB and DDSB available for order all the time. You either need to be able to go yourself to place the order or find a good proxy.

Boys are limited only because we can’t buy them online and the licensed guys are definitely hard to find. Keep your eyes peeled.

    3. If I have MSD clothes from Volks/Dollheart, would DDP or MDD be the better go? I don't have any pants so not worried about them turning out short. I like DDP body a little better, but if MDD is best for MSD clothes then maybe that's the go to for me.

Also for head DDH-09 would standard eye size 22mm be good or do they look better with a different size like 24mm?

      Thanks for any feedback

    4. @SylveonPaws I'm not sure about the clothing question, but you can always check the different body measurement's on the VolksUSA site. I believe MDD is closest to MSD, while DDP is slightly larger, though can't give any real answer on the clothing question since I only have large dolls ^^;

For DDH-09, it just depends on the shape of the eye/iris (oval, round, rectangle, etc) and the look that you're going for. I have bought both 22mm and 24mm sized eyes for my DDH-09, so here's some comparison - the top pics are Volks 24mm, and the bottom are some custom 22mm I ordered.

In the end, I do prefer the look of the 22mm for my girl due to the look I had in mind for her already, but some folks do switch back and forth cuz again, it's really just up to whatever you envisioned or feel like.

    5. I would go with MDD, they're a bit closer to MSD size and you can get a large bust part to better fill out loose blouses if needed.

    7. Having easier access to DD male bodies would be great. :thumbup

    8. I think the reason why boys seem more popular on the BJD side is because of how different and very defined the BJD sculpts are while on the DD side most of the sculpts have similar faces and they're not very defined because they're in anime style like 9S, he is a bit more realistic but still lacks definition. Some BJDs have anime style faces too (like Dream of Doll) but the face ups and eyes are different...it took me many years to like DDs because of that reason even though I was always an anime fan, I didn't find them appealing but now I love them.

I don't even know if I'm making sense :sweat it's just that DD boys are not really popular but I've seen some custom ones, it's easy to turn any female DD head into a male doll, it would be great if Volks releases the body and in that way people can create their male dolls. Also, I find that women are more into BJDs and men are more into DDs so that must be another reason why male DDs are not that popular.

    9. Thanks for feedback and pics on MDD vs DDP. It looks like most clothes I have would fit DDP small bust. Some skirts may be a bit short but that's ok.

I keep looking at both sizes and am still torn! My fear with going MDD is, the faceup I have commissioned might be a bit more mature than would look right.

Does DDP have no med bust option? Not sure I'd get one anyway but I didn't see one on the Volks site.

    10. Hi guys, do you think Volks will restock Sailor Jupiter in the future? I have no access to the marketplace yet, I'm waiting to apply or should I buy the overpriced one on eBay? :( it just hurts to spend so much money but she's my favorite sailor...I missed the sale... now I've been looking for one that's not over $1000

If I could find at least just the head I would be happy because I have like 2 extra DD bodies here

I think you should go for the DDP body :) the body is beautiful, and if the head is not too childish it will look great on the DDP (like a teen). DDP doesn't have M bust. Do you want a teen character or younger character? Good luck in choosing the right body!

    11. Hi! Just wanted to share a pic of my boy and his girlfriend :D

    12. @Hypercurve oh what a cute and fashionable couple!

    13. Thank you!! :love I love them so much!!

    14. Mind if I ask a possibly goofy question?
I've committed to purchases towards my first vinyl DD. But between possibly older items and current shop terminology I want to ask/double check: is normal skin the same as or a similar color to flesh?
I've got a 2015-ish NS head I'd like to put on a MDD f3 body! Would ordering a flesh color match for the most part?

Any tips on possibly working with an inner frame?
I think the only bodies in my house are all Obitsu owned by my brother (with maybe 1 DD as an exception.)

    15. NS is flesh, yes. I don’t know your other question

    16. @Nattou The inner frame is pretty easy to work with, it's pretty similar to a strung doll as far as actually moving the joints goes. Mostly you want to be careful not to bend the joint the wrong way or with too much force.

    17. Nevermind~
I answered my own silly question. :sweat

    18. okay question, since i figured you lot are the most likely to know the answer.
I'm in love with the DDdy Toya. I am not, however, a super big fan of her bust options. Even the 'normal' size bust is nearly as big as her head ;w; I'm sure it's someone's thing, but i'm not into it.

Is there a way to give a DDdy doll another bust size? i noticed both of the bust options for DDdy are pretty big, but can you give them the bust from like, a DD or a DDS?

    19. Technically no. The DDDy's bust pieces are cut 'higher' - the joint sits just below the bodacious rack instead of halfway to the waist - and the lower torso piece is sculpted to match that.

It's possible to mod a DD bust piece to fit a DDDy, which involves cutting off the lower vinyl to just below the bust. This isn't too hard, although it's hella fiddly to get everything smooth and even afterwards. If you have access to DollDreaming, here's a (mildly NSFW) tutorial on how to do that:
DD3 L bust for a Dollfie Dream Dynamite (NSFW)

    20. What's the difference between dwc01 and ddh01? They look similar.

    21. DWC01 has no molded lips, just a smooth mouth area, so that you can paint any kind of mouth shape you want onto it. DDH01 has molded lips.

    22. So, I've now been doing some research on finding a proxy to order a boy. I *think* I have finally found someone who can do it. However, I'm really not finding much on the boy bodies. I know that there was a lot of back and forth over the male bodies being shorter than the female bodies. But between the DDSB and the DDB body, which one is taller? Or are they the same height and just built differently? I have been trying to find measurements or comparisons between the two bodies and there just aren't any.
      Any help is much appreciated!~

    23. Thank you very much!

    24. The DDS boy is shorter than the DD boy, just like the DDS girl is shorter than the DD girl.

    25. The DDSB is shorter than the DDB. Same way DDS is shorter than DD3. They are built more or less the same with legs and some parts just being a bit longer. I have a friend who has both bodies if you want me to put you in touch with her? I have owned both at separate times and only have the DDSB now.

    26. You're awesome, Thank you! I can now stop mad Google searching for something that I can't find.

    27. That's actually really good information! I appreciate the help! I had never considered that there were other methods to acquiring a DDB so sadly I'm a little clueless on them.
I would love to see your friend's boys together if she has comparisons! <3

    28. Hmm... is it possible to just, take a Toya head and put it on a DDs or DD body?

    29. Oh, yes, that's perfectly doable! All the DD heads are interchangeable.

    30. haha fuck yeah. thanks for the help dude!

    32. I love her beautiful soft expression :D she reminded of a show I used to watch when I was a kid, she looks like she could fit in that show very well! (Little House on the prairie) amazing outfit and style!

    33. I'm not sure if you've seen this yet, but there is a thread on the Doll Dreaming forums that has comparison photos between the DDSB and DDB bodies: DD boy and DDS boy comparison! (Doll Nudity)

I saved this link back when I did my own research on getting my first DD boy through Dream Choice last year (a DDSB in Tan skin!). Coincidentally, I'm also in the process of getting a second Dream Choice boy through proxy (this time a DDB!). I'll be glad to share my experiences if you'd like!

    34. This is perfect! Thank you! I had also saved a few other pictures that compared DDB, DDSB and Smartdoll boy bodies. I didn't realize there were such a big difference between them.

Out of curiosity, which proxy are you going through, and have you used them before? I know that I'm wanting at least two DDBs and would ultimately like to shift my collection towards vinyl. But from what I can't easily buy from YJapan, I'm needing a proxy that I can rely on a lot. :sweat

    35. I'm happy to share the proxies I used for Dream Choice! (Big wall of text incoming!)

The first proxy I used for my Dream Choice DDSB last year summer was Japan Doll Direct: Log into Facebook

They are (I think) a 2-person team: one manages the orders/communication with customers, and the other does the in-person Dream Choice sessions at Doll Point in Tokyo. (They do proxy for other shops/auctions/services, but I have only used them for Dream Choice)

JDD were very responsive and quick to answer my inquiries. I messaged them asking how much a DDSB would cost, and they provided price quotes in USD, although they charge in JPY through Paypal invoice.

After confirming my payment, they asked for my choices of skin tone, head sculpt, make up, wig, and eyes. They also asked for backup wig and eye choices in case my first options sold out.

JDD mentioned they were busy with orders, so the time frame from me paying my order to the Dream Choice build day was about 3 weeks. About 5 days after build day, they sent photos of my doll to make sure everything looked good. Once I paid for shipping, they shipped out the package the next day.

Overall, my experience with JDD was very good. Communication with them was excellent, and I am happy that I had my first Dream Choice experience with them. ^^

      -----------

The second proxy I am using for my second Dream Choice boy is Sophie Bear: Log into Facebook

She is a single person proxy that handles Dream Choice, auctions, and any shops that don't ship outside Japan.

Since my proxy order with Sophie Bear is still undergoing, I won't be able to share as much details. But so far, communication has been great! She usually responds within a day, but there were a few cases where she did not respond as quickly. She explained that she doesn't reliably receive notifications through her business FB page, so we moved our conversation to her personal FB account.

I also ordered Mercari items through her to combine with my Dream Choice package. She was very accommodating with my (many) Mercari orders, so I really appreciated her patience with me!

... And that is my experience with Dream Choice proxies so far. I know I wrote a bit much, but I hope the information is helpful in some way! :)

    36. Thank you for all the info! I actually have messaged both of them! I don't have a Facebook so I have to rely on Instagram. I haven't really heard back from either one though :sweat

I wonder if I should make a Facebook account, I deleted mine YEARS ago since I stopped using it. But I'm afraid that maybe Instagram isn't their active platforms.

    37. Thank you so much!!!! I used to watch that show too when I was a kid :D I love the Alna sculpt so much!! So far all the dresses I got for her are the long classic style  think they suit her well!!

    38. Ahh, I'm sorry to hear that you haven't gotten a reply yet! :(

I can't speak for JDD, but Sophie Bear currently seems busy with her work and proxy orders, so that may be the reason why she hasn't replied yet.

Another proxy I can suggest is Ayumist: Login • Instagram
In addition to FCS orders, she does Dream Choice as well. You can contact her through Instagram, but the best way is through her Discord channel. Ayumist and the members there are friendly and willing to answer questions you might have!

I had to edit this - BUT GUYS, I HEARD BACK FROM SOPHIE!
I'm literally so excited! It'll be two weeks before she can get to my order, but yay! :blush

    40. Thanks all for feedback on MSD type bodies! Still undecided but leaning toward DDP.

Dream Choice proxy sounds dangerous... I must stay away...

    41. Wow, I'm so happy you got a reply from Sophie!! :celebrate

Knowing that you'll finally get a DD boy makes me excited as well! :) What kind of head sculpt / make up have you decided on, if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, that is a wise decision... With Dream Choice, you can't stop with just one! :XD:

    42. If time permits (which I think it will). I'm opting for the DDB body in Tan with the DDH16 head and M01 face.

I wasn't too picky on the faceup, I think I'll have it commissioned later. I typically do my own faceup on the resins, but I'm a little hesitant on vinyl. :sweat

    43. I tried to search this, (darn short word searches!) but I couldn't find anything conclusive.

Could anyone tell me if a set of DD/DDS F3 arms will fit the DDIII bodies? I'm in desperate need of a replacement set of arms and I've waited too long to get them through official sources. I've been stalking the secondhand market, but that's been odd this past year and I see fewer parts now than ever.

    44. @DemonMiko The Volks item pages list the compatibilities. On the f-3 arms page, it says it is not compatible with the DDIII frame:

    45. Thanks! I had seen that, but I wasn't sure if others were successful with modifying the part to fit.

    46. It might be possible to modify the f-3 arms to fit, the shoulder peg looks similar.

I just modded some f-3 MDD wrists to fit MDD3 body - just had to sand down the post since it was slightly bigger circumference on the new model.

    51. I finally received my tan DD boy! He's a DCH-14 with makeup 02, I also got the heroic short wig in the grey-purple (tho he's wearing a random pink Luts one here) and the green eyes he's got in. I absolutely LOVE him so so much, I can't wait to really get him into some fun clothes!

    53. Yeah I did! I love him to bits, he's not my first vinyl head as I have a couple other DD heads that came in before he did but he's my first vinyl body so it's been fun getting used to it haha! I cant wait to be able to dig through my mountains of clothes to find something for him

    55. Everyone's dolls are so cute!

@Black Pearl, your girls are precious! DDH-01 is a classic and DDH-22 is one of my new favorites!
@Kitsune88 Zero looks so pretty! Hopefully the black clothes don't stain because she looks gorgeous in them!
@SuperShawol Congratulations on your new boy! I love the DD tan and can't wait to see more of him!

I have a quick, random question!
Is the Hime Straight wig from Dream Choice stretchy enough to fit a 9-10 head?
If anyone has one that they could try on a big headed SD it would be greatly appreciated:chibi
I've been thinking of doing Dream Choice but am undecided on what head to choose and don't really want to go for it just for the wig if it won't fit...

    56. Anyone know how many times Volks has released a Snow Miku? I missed out on preordering the one that was rebooted for this fall delivery. Is it one they reboot every couple years or so?

    57. So far, they rereleased the original Miku once and Snow Miku once. The originals were both on older frames so that was likely a main reason why the dolls got re-released. I don’t think she’d get rereleased again unless they update the DD frame which probably isn’t going to happen for a while. That being said, left over Miku stock can pop up on sale from volks during special events so I’d keep an eye on your announcements. In addition it’s possible there will be left over Snow Miku that go on sale once all orders are shipped (bc people don’t pay etc.).

    58. I just had to pop back in for a little update from when I was desperately searching for a proxy! ☆

Sofie was able to order the boy for me that I was wanting, he's now in transit to me! (She's incredibly sweet, too!)

I also was able to come across another boy body that I purchased, it's the shorter DDSB body. So hopefully I'll have a couple of boys in the house soon. :whee:

    59. Looks like re-release of Emilia for this coming August!
Kinda sad there's no change in clothings but I guess also because Emilia doesn't have another set of clothings in the original story? :abambi:
