put all of my 3 girls in new outfits today.
I also switched heads,dd candy is now on the ddy body and ddh-06 is on dds body I think it looks way better then before:

Sooo, nobody knows about the delivery schedule of After Event dolls?

 

On my recent trip to Japan I got the opportunity to order a Dream Choice Dollfie Dream at Volks Doll Point in Akihabara! It was such a great experience! Sorry for the lengthy post but I wanted to go into some detail about the process:
I went on a Monday afternoon and pretty much no one else was in the store and there was no wait to begin the process. The staff was really friendly and nice! I did place my order completely in Japanese. I am by no means fluent, but I am conversational and can read and write a little. I'm not sure any staff spoke English but even if you don't know any Japanese, they have a binder full of options and you could probably just point to what you'd like and get by just fine.

I know DDH-04 is not a very popular mold, but I've always had a soft spot for her ever since I saw a DDS Mayu in person a few years ago. Isn't it silly that I almost felt guilty picking out this mold knowing that? But it is a "Dream Choice" so I had to go with my gut!

First I picked out the size I wanted. I chose DDS as the only other Dollfie Dream I have is a custom MDD so I thought they'd look cute together. Next I picked out the skin tone. I chose the tan skin since I came in the spring/summer season. Next on to the heads. I chose 04 and had the Volks staff member take out two of the three different faceup choices for me to look at. Before I decided for sure on H-04, I also looked at H-06 in person as she was my second choice. He even held up the 04 and 06 at the same time so I could make a decision. After confirming I wanted the H-04, I decided on makeup M-03. Even though M-01 had more blushing on the cheeks and was really cute, M-03 had sweet little glossy lips a slightly softer eyebrow shape. M-01 didn't seem to have any lip gloss, so I went with M-03. I don't remember what M-02 looked like! I do wish I had taken a bit more time to look through all the heads and faceup options but I was nervous! Next I chose the eyes. He informed me that the T-type eyes were exclusive to Dream Choice. So of course I chose those. After comparing 24mm and 22mm, I went with 22mm in red. Lastly I chose the pony tail style wig in white after also being informed that style was exclusive to dream choice. You don't get to choose the hands or bust size, but they have optional hands and bust pieces for sale in the rest of the store. I believe she came with the DDS default M bust and loosely fisted hands.

Next he made a mock-up of my choices on a half torso and I confirmed my decisions. Then I waited about 10 minutes (I shopped around the rest of the store while waiting) then they called me over and unveiled her to me! Then they packaged her up for me put her in the special pink box.

It was a wonderful experience and I hope that everybody who wishes to make a Dream Choice gets an opportunity to do so! I hope to go again next time I'm in Japan!

Just want to add to the Dream Choice in Akiba thing that the staff do speak very good English, or at least the guy I got did. I got my tan DD14 from there a week ago and it was a great experience. It seemed a lot more intimidating and confusing than it actually was from all the online posts but it was super simple. They got me in right away and they will help preview anything you want to see - like eyes in the head/faceup you want of different sizes and wigs. Just ask. Congrats on you Dream Choice @baby~mermaid she's so cute!! I'm so happy you had the experience of picking her up in person and choosing her. Regardless of being popular or not, she's all 100% yours and that's why it's so wonderful!

I also snagged my DD-11 from the D'coord and the staff called me over while they were packing her up like it was an emergency. I went over and they showed me a "flaw" on her face. A mark so tiny I... I don't know if I ever would have noticed. Both times I picked up a doll was an amazing experience all around. Next to me during my Dream Choice was a guy getting his FCS in and just gawking over her and falling in love, it was beautiful.

Something awful just happened! I successfully paid for Luka (the money came out of my account) then got a message that the payment failed. When I went to check on it it is as if my account was deleted! It says there is no account attached to my email address!

So now it seems Volks has my money and I am not getting a Luka and my account is gone : (

Edit: somehow the order attached itself to my mother's account, and the failed payment was from it timing out once. This is somehow even stranger than before.

 

I would message Volks. If they can resolve it then it's all good. If not, you can perhaps go to the bank and ask for the payment to be cancelled? Unless it's all good now that it attached to your mother's account.

 

Congrats on everyone who was able to get Luka on the international and usa volks website. Heard volks usa orders were a bit of a mess. I’ve been tempted to get Ranka myself but knowing I can get her later in the after market has stopped me from doing the impulsive purchase. However, she will definately be my next big doll purchase.

In other news, I have recieved my DDS Sailor Moon in the mail today and she is so beautiful ...and big! I’ve only recently owned MSD bjds so having a doll bigger than 45 cm is rather daunting but exciting! I am so glad I jumped on the lottery. I would have hit myself with remorse now if I had missed her. I have so much to prepare before I can fully open her up and display her~ Back in the box she goes for a bit longer.

 

It is highly puzzling, but all good, since I'm getting the doll. I don't even remember creating an account when I ordered Miku, and I am not really a fan of most Volks dolls. And I now have dolls of my two favorite vokaloids, so it's unlikely they will release another one.

There are a lot of variations of the Obitsu 50cm if you expand your search to all the companies Obitsu makes 50cm bodies for.

Long time no posting here, but I must say that I don't often take pictures of my DD girl. But she's still with me, and I didn't even see my time with her at home flying so fast : it's been already 3 years I have her.

Can someone here recommend a face up artist who works on DD heads?
The lady who does my resin girls is hesitant to try a vinyl head.
I want to get a new head for my girl but I'll need a face up.

 

DoA's vinyl scene is pretty dead, isn't it >.< so I think the people on the DD forum (over at dollfiedreams.com) could help you out more! Some people have faceup shops open in the Painting and Customization sub-forum over there, and the Q&A section could probably find you the perfect artist if you know what style you're going for. (I'm quite fond of Lovely Dollie's work, check her out if you like hyper-cutesy stuff)

The people can be a bit gauche sometimes (don't get them going about boobs, ugh), but the more specialized forum will probably help you find what you want faster!

here and it looks as though some of them are willing to do anime on vinyl. I did
register over on Dollfiedreams but the only face up artist I found there was in
Europe and charged 110 Euros for a face up. (~$150) Out of my price range. I've
placed inquiries to a few artists.

I've heard from a friend overseas that the fees with Paypal when sending money to Japan can be an issue. I forget the details but I was under the impression this effected individuals more than businesses.

 

I quickly put in an order for clothes that VolksUSA doesn't have in stock. I really prefer to pay with PayPal instead of giving my cc info.

Another sale of Rin and Len? Ah.... I can't manage that this year. Maybe they will be offered for sale in the future. At least I got a Luka, and I like Luka better than Rin and Len. I can safely say that if Volks releases a Meiko next I will also not be tempted by her.

 

The Vocaloids seem to come back fairly often. I just hope that is the case for Luka too. I just couldn't manage to get her when she came up because of real life situations coming up. She's my favorite too. I like seeing Rin and Len coming back so often with Miku. Rin is wearing down my defenses because she is just so cute!

 

can someone tell me what kind stuff would be safe to use as eye putty for dollfie dreams. so far i've used volks putty but for the amount you get 11 bucks is kinda over priced. i have some blue colored putty from alice colection but im worried it would stain them would just any white or flesh colored poster putty work?

 

Volks putty is not good as it is known to stain the eyes (acrylic and resin but especially resin) over the years. The same can be said with the blue colored putty and flesh color putty. Unless you use glass eyes, then your safest bet is to use white putty or silicone putty which is often found in the earplugs section (Mack’s earplugs). Checking the status of the putty with your doll and eyes from time to time would be a good idea, but if you plan to replace/change the eyes often then there shouldn’t be nothing to worry about since you will be doing that everytime you change them.

 

@solebria Really? I’ve been using the Volks eye putty for years and never had it stain. (Unless if you’re talking about the old pink formula)

That being said I’ve had good luck with white UHU branded poster tac.

 

@pleiades I've only used the old pink formula and realized the mistake a little too late with a pair of eyes so I cannot say about the new formula. However, I have heard things even happening even with the new formula or with any color putty in general (many resin eyes artist advice against using it). In other boards I have even read that even silicone putty can crack eyes so I am guessing like any material it can react differently depending on the environment. So my general advice is that any putty should be checked once in a while because you never know the long-term reaction with vinyl or resin/acrylic.

I also use white poster tack/putty.

 

You can also use the speedo brand silicon ear plugs, these are very sticky and good substitute to eye putty, you can easily find them on amazon.

 

I ordered a Rin that should be in stock. Then I ordered a Luka. My Rin hasn't shipped yet. Has anyone else gotten theirs? With Luka, I wish we could know if we made the early bird time before purchasing. I don't mind waiting until August. But 6 months is a long time to be out $700.

I am a bit curious though - what kind of camera are you using? I've been debating about buying a new one but the whole photography world is quite daunting.

Thanks. :3 It was fun since I haven't done a lake shoot in a while.

I'm using a semi-professional Canon DSLR, so I wouldn't recommend the model I use for a beginner, firstly because even though it's not in production anymore, the used ones costs as much as an SD sized doll and secondly, because it doesn't have any of the helpful automatic modes. If you want to go down the DSLR path, I'd recommend getting one of the cheaper ones and a good 50mm (macro) lens. Imo a cheap DSLR is better than an expensive compact camera (but I'm the type that wants to use proper manual modes and doesn't trust the camera to choose the right settings). A good fixed lens can take some getting used to because you can't zoom with it, but it takes great doll photos and won't warp the features like many phone and compact cameras do. :3
I started with a Canon 350D kit set, then about 4 years later upgraded to a 50D body and some years later to my current 7D... but the 50mm lens I bought for the 350D (used it for these photos) is still my most used lens, although I've broken the automatic focus a few years ago. So, investing in a good lens goes a long way. Mine has quite a bit of metal in it and it's fairly shockproof.. though not completely as I broke the focus/motor by banging it onto some rocks. ^^; Doll photography can be hazardous

 

Your story of banging your lens against a rock reminded me of the day
I slipped on a wet rock and fell into a Vermont stream completely
submerging my lovely Nikon D700 in nearly a foot of water....

Fortunately it was fresh water and I dried it as quickly I could; it recovered
but gave me several anxious days.

Hello from DD newbie!

I apologize in advance if I'm going to ask obvious or FAQ, in this case, please kindly redirect me.

1. Are DDIII and DDDy body parts interchangeable? What I mean - will DDIII S-bust, lower torso and thighs fit on DDDy frame?
2. Where is the best place to ask if anyone would like to split the standard model order with me? I really like Karin and Tova heads, but they are on DDS and DDDy bodies respectively, and I like DDIII. Maybe you can tell me what molds are those heads - I'll try to paint them myself?
3. How often do DollfieUSA replenish their stock like standard models and body parts? DDIII body in NS is out of stock - will they be back in stock eventually or it's like with Angel Philia, when the doll is sold out - it's for good.
4. What is "dream choice"? Is it something similar to FairyLand a la carte and where is it available from? I didn't see it on VolksUSA.

From what I gather from this, you'd like to have a DDIII body with DDdy arms and lower legs? Why? The arms are the same as on DD3 and not that much of a difference in the lower legs either -might be the same as well. I don't think there's much of a difference in the frames (I suspect they're the same frame). Also the thighs and lower torso come with the frame attached, so you won't even have to worry about getting the vinyl bits over the other frame... so basically yes it's possible, but I don't see why you'd want to do this. It's much easier to just get a whole DDIII body (don't know about VolksUSA but the international site re-stocks the parts every once in a while). The difference in the DDIII and DDdy is in the torso and the thighs, so swapping out those parts you'd just make the DDdy into DD3 -if that's what you want then yes, it's possible.
You can actually put the DDIII bust on a DDdy body with a little modification (mainly just shave away a bit of the vinyl from the bottom to make the bust shorter) but combining the torso and thighs of those two bodies is not possible because of the huge size difference in the vinyl bits.

Yes, it similar but you can only do it in person in a Volks store in Japan. It's not available online.

My goal is very simple - standard model Towa head on DDIII body instead of DDDy. DDIII body in NS is out of stock, so I thought of buying less voluptuous parts to put on the existing frame.

I also could buy a blank head and DDIII body, both in Semi-white skin - since both are available, and paint it similar to Towa myself, if I could figure out which mold it is. I can see that it's not DDH-01, -04 or -05. I just need some help with pinpointing Towa mold among the remaining six heads, please.

 

@Tati in that case it's possible to swap the parts but it does get a bit more expensive. You could also ask in the MP for a split with someone that wanted the DDdy body. Also the NS DDIII body is in stock on the Volks international site, so that's an option as well. Towa, Karin and Liliru are their own molds; they're new and not added to the standard models yet. They might be available separately in a couple of years, but not yet.
