I'm so excited. I know it's a bit random for me to just suddenly post this, but I'm over halfway done saving up for my first Dollfie Dream!
Also, here's another random newbie question, sorry if it's a bit annoying. I know that vinyl stains much easier than resin. What colors and materials do you find shed color the most?

 

Black pleather is the absolute worst for staining dolls. But other than that, sometimes it's really hard to predict what will stain and in which way. I've seen DDs with gray heads from pink wigs, backs stained by poppers etc. Basically there are obvious things like not leaving anything black on your doll for very long but there's also just random staining you don't expect too.

And it's true that DDs can stain in like 10 minutes sometimes :0

 

Thank you. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Now to just make that giant Volks order... but I am waiting to see if they get the normal waist in stock again. How often do they stock? Does anyone know?

 

Mortifox just based on my observations, Volks USA usually gets a restock every couple of months on average, but sometimes more frequently. You can always shoot them an email and ask them when they are expecting a shipment.

 

Thanks [MENTION=61537]MONApandium[/MENTION] I did send them an email and they said to follow them on Facebook and sign up for emails to get more info on when certain things are restocked, but they planned to do a restock sometime next month. So woot for that In the mean time, I am thinking bout giving a cute little tattoo to make the most of the stain LOL I would prefer not to, but since it won't come out (scrubbed for an hour with various approved solutions... nothing).

 

For me, strong dark colors (blacks and reds), jeans, and wig caps. Also as Babytarragon said, leather/pleather. These materials usually have a lot of dye used to color them. Dark colored wig caps can have a ton of dye in them. It's never a bad idea to soak a garment in warm water (when practical) to see if the color bleeds out. If they do bleed, soak the item a couple times till the water doesn't discolor. You can also try setting the dyes a little more by soaking the garment in a bath of 50% white vinegar/50% ice water for about an hour.

Barriers such as silicone wig caps and white bodysuits can help. Remember that these items won't stop staining. These items will stain first, before the dye has a chance to migrate into your vinyl. You should still check your doll occasionally to see if one of these barriers is starting to stain.

Something else to think about is what to do when your doll does get stained. With vinyl, staining is almost inevitable. First, don't panic! Most stains can be removed. If you've been diligent with your stain preventative measures you can usually catch a stain before it gets too bad.

These steps are no guarantee that a garment won't stain. As Babytarragon said, there will always be that, "Where did that come from?" moment.

PS, resins will stain too. It just takes longer.

Okay, I don't want to necessarily get a second doll... but I googled volks dollfie dream just to see what others had done with their dolls. Well, I ran across this doll that I adore! I need to figure out what the sculpt is. Essentially, she had the face with lips like 3. You know :3 or just with bright open eyes of course.

If anyone can help me out, that would be swell.

*runs to look at Akira* OMG that is super close, but I found out that what I saw was a limited release doll called Shining Heart Airy Ardet. Therefore, a rather lofty item that I may not likely come across at any form of reasonable price. T.T

BUT! At least I now know and knowing is half the battle.

My close friend has her and she is super cute, really unusual sculpt. But I do know her original wig stains like anything, so maybe its possible find her stained for a discount?

 

That would be worth it. That face is precious! Perhaps a WTB thread wouldn't hurt.

 

Airy =/= Airi. ^^; Airy came with a blond wig, so head staining isn't common on her per se. However, she's not nearly as coveted as Airi, nor as rare, so her price tends to be more sane. (I blame Airy's default eyes; the design on those was widely considered to be terrible.)

LOL I am in fact in love with the Airy sculpt But, my darling Chiyo-Hana (DDS Mayu) is adorable too! Once I get some proper eyes in her head, I'll share some pictures.

Hm, going back to the topic of stain removal...
I've been super protective of Penelope and so far she has no stains (yay!), but I still want to be prepared in the event that something does happen at some point...

Can anyone point me to any information regarding WS DD and the Twin Pines products or Volk's rescue cream? I've been trying to do research, but in vain. All I ever come up with are other WS DD owners asking if anyone has tried these products and getting no responses.
Poor WS girls! I'm starting to feel like they are the forgotten step sisters of the DD line, especially now that Volks released semi-white...

 

I don't see any reason these products would be any more harmful to white skin than normal skin. But I can understand your concern so a test is in order. I have some white skin parts and after inspecting them I found this one stain. It's not bad, just a fuzzy dark patch. The parts are relatively clean and not blushed. I will apply Twin Pines of Maine's Remove-Zit today (9/3/2015) and report back with my findings.

 

[MENTION=25971]K-2![/MENTION] That is exactly the type of staining on my normal vinyl DDS. There is a small cluster of smudged like black stains, most like that, but a couple darker. At the moment, I intend to just turn it into a customizing opportunity and doodle on a tattoo with acrylic paint/water color. Ideally, I would like to remove the stain if I could. I'm eager to see how well it cleans off.

(I only worry because I've read that the popular zit cream method leaves yellow discoloration on WS. So I wasn't sure if it was really just that method, or something about the whole process of stain removal that was effecting the WS girls.)

Thank you! ^^ You should, ForMyDoll has some lovely wig styles and colours and the prices are good too! Lizanna eyes are very pretty and reflect light so well! They're definitely my favourites out of all the eyes that I've tried for my DDs.

You and Feena are most welcome! I only buy some of the pre-order colours from Leeke, but these days I am reluctant to buy anything from them because their customer service is rather unhelpful and rude, in my experience. Like once I made a group order of around 20 wigs of which one was missing and when I wrote to them about it, they basically claimed that I'm lying about the missing wig - why would I try to cheat them out of one wig if I could afford to buy so many in the first place? I would understand them being suspicious if I claimed that my order was missing more than three wigs, but one? Ugh... :C Recently I bought a pair of shoes from them that were way bigger than I expected (they didn't include individual measurements for them so I assumed they're the size that is listed as a general size for that particular shoe category) and again, they were unhelpful... so that was kind of the last straw and I don't really want to support them anymore. :S But I might cave if they bring back a few lovely limited pre-order colours that I can't get from anywhere else... >.>;; Although, they might never re-release them so it's likely that I'll be safe.

Yeah, I can't really think of multi-toned wigs from other companies than Leeke, ForMyDoll, Crobidoll and Luts... I wish more companies would experiment with mixing more fibers or using those powders because multi-toned wigs are really lovely! I got this Silver/Gray mix wig from FMD and I love how the lighter silver fibers among the dark gray fibers make the wig look extra shiny! I just wish there were more natural tones available, because I tend to prefer using natural hair colours for my human dolls... sometimes it's fun to play with pastels, but I kinda get bored of them if I keep them on for long periods of time, ahah. And I'd especially love to see more brown wig colours around because like 80% of my dolls are brown-haired and I'm really picky about what kind of tones I want them to have, lol. :'3

I like wig shopping, too, but with some dolls I really struggle to find that "perfect" wig for them, so I can get a little frustrated sometimes, haha! xD But when I do find a wig that suits them perfectly, it really completes the doll. ^^ And then I can shop around for a couple of alternative wigs for them to use... :'D

Aww, she's so lovely! A first I didn't have much of an opinion about the MOMO sculpt, but recently I've seen many cute MOMOs that I've really warmed up to her!

Thank you! ^^ I really like red-ish brown colour for her, and this wig's colour is pretty close to what I want. :3 It's not quite as red as her default wig from Lullaby Poem, but it works well as an alternative style!

Rin is such a cutie & my favorite Vocaloid girl No matter what I know she'll end up being really cute. Won't be pre-ordering her, but I definitely look forward to more info on her. And I really hope that Volks does right by Len for those who love him The Ribbon Girl Set definitely has my attention, but the dress not so much~

It was either the beginning of this thread or the last DD thread where I FINALLY found Estel the perfect wig. I bought her more wigs than any of my other dolls, it was ridiculous. And I was trying all different styles too! Nothing clicked until I found the Leeke art wig that was somewhat close to her default wig. It was in stock, I grabbed it, and it was love at first try-on

I wish that more companies would experiment with funky pastels and gradient colors too! Maybe they're a pain in the butt to make? Looking at some of the art wigs (CandyPink I'm looking at you! That thing has like a bajillion shades of pink in it), they must be time consuming to make with all the different colors and gradients from root-to-tip.

As for natural colors, Leeke does have some art wigs in natural tones that use the opalescent powder to dye the wig. They're definitely a rarity though - they had more a few years ago when the Unique line was still a thing (where did that line go anyway!?)

All my resin (boy) dolls have natural colored hair, but the DDs always get funky colored hair. After all, they're anime characters - and if I can't have cotton candy hair at my age, then at least they can

On another note: I too am excited to see what they're going to do about Len's body. I *think* they'll just use the default MDD body, maybe with an even smaller chest but if they do go with a new male body... oh boy, that opens up a whole new world of possibilities for future Volks releases. What an exciting time to be a dolly fanatic!

 

So happy I'll be joining the dollfie dream side of bjds soon. I finally decided to get a ddh06 with a mini dollfie dream body! I'm so excited haha

The might HAVE to make a male body now that Smart Doll is competing with them.

 

Lots of doll company's compete with Volks and I doubt smart doll is a big concern to them. Plus they said last year that they'd be releasing more of the vocaloids. I think even without smart doll it was inevitable that they would make a male DD.

 

Mizya, thank you for your nice remarks about my boys! My first resin BJD was a boy, and my DD family wouldn't seem *right* without some boys in it! Especially since some of my favorite anime characters are boys.

DD girls' bodies are so beautiful and I love their sculpting, I would hope Volks' sculpting of a DD boy body would be just as good looking.

I was actually planning on ordering two Obitsu bodies for my floating DD heads I bought to make a custom set of the Kagamine twins; guess its a good thing I put it off! I'm hoping they're on DDS scale and not MDD scale (they're not THAT young looking). With Miku on a standard DD body, them on DDS, and Luka and Meiko on DDy, that'd be perfection (they're have to do a new scale for Kaito though). My poor husband went "Whelp, there goes twelve-hundred out of the bank" when I told him. ^^;; Of course I have to get any outfits they release for them as well.

Now I have to decide what to do with the floating head and eyes I have (DDH-04 and DDH-06). One friend suggested I make alternate heads for the twins, but I'm not sure.

 

I am eagerly awaiting good male DDs or the Smart Doll, though I think I'd prefer DD due to posing, so that is very exciting!!! I just got my Akira girl put together yesterday and here's a pic with her and my DDS Alice with a backdrop I got for my birthday in March and hadn't used til now haha. I think Alice was a little sad that she didn't get the big boob body XD

 

I love your Akira, especially her eyes. I don't really like her default eye faceup thus made me change my own, but this eyes paired well with the faceup.

I was actually going to order some of those, but now I don't have to! Next they need to make high heeled feet. Sad to see it's for all body types except MDD. Eep, finally I got a shipping notice for my Megumi (Mariko)! I was already starting to feel like it was too good to be true that I won and I'd dreamt the whole thing, ahah... ^^; The tracking number isn't working yet, but perhaps they'll take her to the post office later today.

galatia9 I put her on a DDdyIII body with the normal bust but after having her on it a bit, I realized I don't like her on that body XD I had temporarily put her on my Alice's DDS body and after doing so and experimenting, I realized that I love Akira best on a DDS body like she's meant to be, and I think I prefer that body most overall. I ordered a DDS for her and I'm going to just keep Miko/DDH-06 now on the DDdyIII instead of selling her, and maybe just get her a different face-up sometime or get rid of her only if something else comes a long
