By the way, about ordering from Volks. Does anyone know about their "busy" periods?
I think I read that delivery - or the time it takes to ship - for in-stock items, might take longer if one orders during a busy period or events. Anything going on right now..?

 

I don't think so I ordered 3 clothing sets from them a couple days ago. They did send me an email telling me one of the items was out of stock they just forgot to change it :c But they shipped my order like a day later.

I bought a DDH-07 sws last week and got my shipping notice yesterday... Pretty fast in my opinion.

 

Now this I had no idea about using...will definitely get some the next time we go grocery shopping, I have been terrified to put my DD in dark clothing and shoes.

I SO wish I had ordered Miku.. ~_~ she is so friggin adorable!!!! I will have to just stalk the MP for her =__= .........

Has anyone seen anything other than the one photo Volks tweeted of the new Idolmaster Cinderella girls? I'm a little surprised by the choices.. at least I thought they would pick someone else sooner. I really would like to see a MDD Anzu, and I would absolutely want Kaede and Anastasia (omg her yes). And while I don't think Mio Honda is a cute idol, it looks like from that one bit of her in the pic, like she could be a cute DD??

I was wondering, does anyone know if this is normal and if not, how to fix it? I picked up a DD1 and I can't find any pictures of the inside, but I think that peg is bent.


Can I heat and slowly bend it back?

The ONLY other DDI I've ever seen didn't have that peg at all.

I'm not very familiar with DD1 bodies, but you may be able to dip the part in boiling water to see if it will reshape itself back to normal. Bent & dented resin will do that; it may be worth a shot to try it on vinyl. It wouldn't hurt to try- just don't let the part touch the sides or bottom of the pan. Hope you're able to fix it!

Is anyone else entering the lottery for the Sabers? Volks' Facebook page says that there will be multiples of both dolls up for lottery.

I went ahead & entered for Alter, too. I'm really hoping to bring one home- Saber is one of my favorite DD ever! I will probably enter the lottery for Melty as well when she's available; if I don't get Saber, that is. Hopefully my luck will let me get one out of the three! I had a streak of lottery luck a few years ago but recently there's been nothing.

I am about to order a pink tutu from Tata's. Now I am looking for beautiful Tops And Shirts. Any suggestions? I can't find good ones.

 

Popping into this thread - I know very little about DDs, and haven't even considered buying one until I found out about Miku, though a bit too late. I'm more of an MSD or tiny person as far as size goes, but I've always found DDs to be enticing even though Ive never owned one.

Is it possible Volks will do a re-release? I've never bought anything from Volks before and have no idea how they release their products or what to expect. Should I be stalking the marketplace or EBay if I'd like to try and get her?

Your girls are all beautiful, by the way. So many pretty pictures in this thread!

 

I missed out on Miku too and got her second hand I would definitely stalk the marketplace and also put a WTB add up. eBay tends to have ridiculous prices so I personally avoid it. It's hard to say if or when volks will do a re release. You could be waiting forever doing it that way.

Miku is my first DD and I have to say she is amazing! They hold poses like a dream and are so soft and squishy compared to resin ^^

Why not pick up a Miku head and a semi-white skin MDD body from Volks Japan, since they're not in the US site yet? That's what I basically did for my Calne.

I cut the bent peg-thing off and replaced it with a big of hollow tubing. She's strung and standing just fine. I decied to try my DDH-05 head on the body, and it got STUCK. Like, I can't get it off the neck peg for anything. Finally I was just like "You know what? It's your body now. Enjoy it."

So here she is


Did some pose-ability mods and put some wiring in her legs. She still likes to bend at the waist to try to head-butt me, but some of my first dolls were the old style Luts/Cereberus project bodies which did the same thing. I'm used to it.

The body is in..! The head shipped from another location, at the same time, with EMS, and has not arrived or had the tracking update since.
(Where is it?! Where is it?! *refreshes*)

This being the first time I have handled a Dollfie Dream, I can say that it feels odd indeed; I cannot quite put words on it... I wonder how it will work out for me and my intended character!

I have not played around with it much yet, but I am curious as to if this torso gap is in the normal range (DDIII):

In photos of others DDs there has sometimes been a gap, but not quite what I have seen on mine. But the gap does not look as bad on my own photos as in "real life", so it might just be that...

Yumeiro, I think that gap is totally normal, no need to worry.

 

Gaps of varying sizes between body parts are normal for most large vinyls. There are numerous reasons these gaps can vary, some come from usage, others from manufacturing.
Unlike resins the body parts of vinyls don't rest on and support the ones next to it. The exterior vinyl parts are mostly supported by the internal skeleton and barely come into contact with those vinyl parts adjacent to it.
As you bend and pose your doll the twisting and pulling of internal parts can cause them to work loose from each other. There are a lot of "peg fitting in the hole" type of joints between body parts. It's a good idea to occasionally push the body parts together, especially if you notice an unusually large or "new" gap. This can help prevent a "surprise" leg, arm, or torso drop.
Another reason could be that all the vinyl parts are not absolutely identical due to procedures in the manufacturing process. The vinyl parts are removed from their molds while they are still hot and can bend and stretch differently from one another a little during cooling. There is a lot of flash around the open edges of newly molded body parts that is trimmed away by hand. These cuts may not be absolutely identical. Also the mold can change size over its life span. This last one shouldn't affect your DD3 as most of these molds are about the same age. However in 5-7 years when you want to replace that bust part you may find the new part to be a slightly different size than the older original. But this usually won't be more than a millimeter or two.

If they can make the pose look more natural, I'm very interested.

 

I believe the option part busts you're referring to are the Peach Pai option parts. They used to be quite hard to get a hold of - you had to e-mail the Peach Pai site right when they were announced for sale, and in Japanese only, to be lucky enough to get the chance to buy the parts (sort of like Volks' infamous click wars). However, I've since heard that the Peach Pai parts are popping up on Y!JA, so anyone interested should have an opportunity to get them.

Just want to tell you: my DDH-07 in semiwhite arrived today! Wohooooo! I am sooooooo in love My first doll is so near! I got some underwear from wonderful Ausra, a beautiful pink wig and the head. Just the body is still missing, but hopefully it will arrive next week too.
I still need to find somebody for the FU... Any ideas? All your girls are sooooooooooo pretty.

BTW: mikobabe89, I am in love with your FU. It looks finished. What do you want to change? o_O

what do you guys use to remove the faceup? Because I had an old head that I had given a faceup and I used the same stuff I used to remove faceups from resin and it left behind discoloration on the vinyl. Luckily it's just a junk head that I'll use for practice anyway, but in the future, I would not want that to happen again x_x;;

 

I use windsor and newton brush cleaner, sometimes it takes some scrubbing and a couple passes to get all the sealant gunk off. Then you have to wash it away well with soap and warm water. I did hear of someone getting discoloration from it, but I've never run into this myself.

 

that's exactly what I used.. and did the same thing, washed it after with soap and water xD It's an old hard vinyl head... could it do with age? or just.. happened upon one that was just going to discolor regardless..? hmm..

 

As I have been putting my girl together I noticed that one hand was just not possible to put on.
After comparison to another... well, "here is your problem".
The one on the right:


The gap/opening is a lot smaller than the rest. You can see this edge on it, and it just looks like they were in the process of cutting it but then just "nah..." and left it.

So any tips on what I should do?
Heat..? Would make it annoying to take off too...
Or do I need to trim/cut? (I would rather avoid that...)

 

You are probably going to have to trim the inside edge of that opening. I doubt the vinyl will stretch enough even when heated.
Use a good sharp hobby knife and go slowly. You can wrap the palm/fingers with a few layers (3+) of masking tape and then hold it with pliers so your fingers aren't so close to the business end of the knife. The tape will help keep the pliers from marring the vinyl.

@Yumeiro I have a pair of those hands (04 Paper/Outspread Hands right?) and they are exactly the same with the tiny opening! D: I heated them up with a hairdryer until the vinyl was very soft and squished them on, but I remember getting them off was awful... so my girls haven't worn them since... >_<;; I hope your cutting goes well! Maybe I should try it on my pair too? XD

Ugh... it does not look nice. Could do with some sanding to smooth out the butchered inside rim... Then again, it is just the inside that will not be visible.
I managed to get the hand on at least! So I would like to emphasize on cutting away little at a time, if you give it a try Bandersnatch.
