Volks DearSD 43cm Discussion Part 2

Jul 28, 2017

    1. @rakelnaomi The biggest problem with replacing the hands on the DSD is getting wrist joints. I really wish Volks would just sell them, and ankle joints. Finding shoes that fit is so hard :(

Anyways, here is my Goblin with her friend Fifi

    2. @CathyM Yes, that's a good point! It would be great if Volks sold them separately. I'm curious if the wrist joints would fit though, provided I could find some second hand? Do you know if the circumference of the wrist (and ankle for that matter) is roughly the same for SD and DearSD?

Goblin and Fifi are looking lovely!

    3. @rakelnaomi

I stole the hands off my extra SD10 body to see how the hands look on the DSD. They fit fine. The SD feet look weird, tho.

    4. @CathyM Thank you, that is super helpful! I think it looks really good. I guess I’ll keep an eye out for the hands and wrist joints on auction sites, you never know :)

    5. So my Dear SD gal is perfect, but there's is just one tiny thing bothering me and has been bothering me about her. I ignored it at first, but her head plate juts out a bit from its placement. Like one end of the headplate is raised up a bit and sticking out while the other is fine. Has anyone else have this problem? I'm assuming it's one of those minor imperfections like seams lines showing and such.

    6. @dollxheart all of my DearSD girls have this issue and it kind of drives me nuts too but I just put a wig on them and try not think about it. Mine don't jut out too much but the right edge of the headplate is obviously more raised up than the left
I think it's one of those minor imperfections that we just have to live with

      • x 1
    7. @Chibi_Rat ah I see! Glad to know it's not some weird thing and just pretty standard. Thanks for telling me!

    8. Joining the DearSD discussion with a photo of one of mine.

    9. @ruskyles she's super cute!
      I love her pose:3nodding:

dropping in a picture of my girls
we had an eye-changing party today and although the battle with the hot glue was rough we got something done:lol:
Koyuki (DearSD Una) got Standard Megu defaults and Mafuyu (DearSD Megu) got Koyuki's defaults to try and I like them more than I thought so she got new eyes
DearSD SwD Megu got some 20mm red glass eyes I had lying around and the domes are so high that they gap horribly aside from not being able to see she has eyes because of her crazy thick lashes orz
is there some trick to getting high-domed eyes to look decent in SwD molds or do I just have to find lower-domed eyes for this girl?

      • x 7
    10. @Chibi_Rat High domes do not work well in anything but wide open eyes. Those domes have to have space. For the SWD heads it's best to use low domes.

      • x 1
    11. @CathyM thank you for the reply
That's what I thought, I'll keep an eye out for low-domes

    12. Posting an older photo of my DearSD Coco <3 I think that the DearSD body is my favorite doll body from Volks, it's so posable and beautifully sculpted! My DearSD has the presence of a 1/3 doll while standing only 43 cm tall, very useful for displaying her next to my desk, she doesn't take up too much space.

Reading through this thread I get the impression that there are much more female looking DearSDs than male ones?

      • x 10
    13. @Ayanami - they've only released a few of the boy Syo and Ryo's as far as I can tell, though DearSD boys are a very cute concept. I think the lack of clothing might be slowing down the creation of more boys?

I am happy that I am going to be bringing up a Nono to finally satisfy my urge for a DearSD of my own!

      • x 1
    14. @Nell wow that yellow dress is so cute! Now we are up to pink, blue, purple and yellow for the basic DSD dress. They are all super cute! But I hope volks does branch out and have more DSD dresses available separate from dolls.

    15. Admittedly I wasn’t too keen on the My Dear Garden dresses when they first released but something about having this many colorways now makes me want to start collecting them, even though I’ve yet to get a DSD.
It would be cool if they start releasing Dear SD targeted clothes. I know a lot of SD items will fit but some other styles meant for DSD would be nice.

    16. @Nell Yes, renewal Una is so sweet! I love her! But I have no idea how to get her... She's basically only available to those who can visit Tenshi no sato in person during the event, right?

    17. Hey everyone! Crawling out of the woodwork after 3.5 years with a brand new to me Kira. I can't find the information on the size of her default eyes. is it 20mm or something else? Plz halp. :)

    18. @Tetradeka, I’m pretty sure the default size is 22mm to give them that childlike look, but I have 20mm in my Megu and it works fine. Smaller than that and I think they start to look a little too old, but ymmv!

    19. Thanks! I ordered 20mm, so cross your fingers. I forgot about all this waiting. SIGH. Who has time for that?!

    20. I finally have my own DearSD and she's also my first Nono! I really love the size, and wow, I am amazed at how heavy she is!

Her name is Jericho and she's got some attitude.

    21. Hi, Volks just announced the next DearSds...but I don't really understand how the event works and if I'm able to order one? I'm new to Volks and really love the first girl in the blog. I think she's Dear Kira? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    22. The DearSD event will only be happening in person at Tenshi no Mado in Tokyo. Looks like the release will be Kira, Nono, and Rinon from the pictures. You'd have to go in person and line up in order to put your name in for one, and then it'd be a lottery to see who gets them.

As far as I know, Volks has never allowed an online order/lottery for DearSD in Japan, only a few times through VolksUSA for the US.

You could keep an eye out on yahoo japan, Mandarake, or Dollyteria after the event to see if anyone sells one secondhand

    23. Thank you so much for the info. Sad that it isn't online but I'll keep my eye out on the secondhand market. Thank you!!!

    24. @inhyeong, you can also look for a DearSD body and a Four Sisters/F-01 (Kira/Nana/Sara/Megu) head separately, then combine them. The Four Sisters mold is very popular, so it's not hard to find that head by itself, and that head will fit the DearSD body even if it is from a different release.

    25. I've ordered both color variants of the new DearSD outfit from Volks and I must say that I'm very happy with the overall look on my DSD Coco :3nodding:

    26. great news for those excited about the new una/sweet dream una, kyoto dolpa 17 will be held online! more info here!

online lotteries for dear sd (including both versions of una and several other sculpts) will begin on august 14th for gl/vs/vip members!

i was able to hold off participating in the last online dolpa, but the addition of dear sd to this one might force my hand. especially for a sweet dream una.

    27. It looks like DearSD Aya is getting another release this time? Aaah, if only I weren't in the middle of buying a home! I guess my existing dolls would like a nice doll room though

Edit to add: The lottery info page is online! There are nine sculpt options and lottery runs August 14th (Friday) to August 20th (Thursday) 12:00, 2020.

    28. I don’t understand the instructions. Can we enter for more than one sculpt? I’d like to enter for Megu and Una.

    29. My Dolpa outfits arrived and I love the DearSD dress I got and it fits Jericho perfectly

    30. Hi everyone! Just joining this chat for the first time as I’ve just had an email that’s made my day.

I won the lottery for a DearSD Una! I fell in love with her blonde wig and I love the Four Sisters sculpt, so couldn’t resist entering.

Just off to pay for her now. My day is officially made. :3

      • x 8
    31. Hey, did you have any trouble paying? I tried two different cards in good standing and it kept saying it couldn't process them.

Edit: Ah, nevermind. Got it sorted.

    32. Glad you got it sorted! I didn’t have any problems luckily. Went straight through.

      Who’d you win? :3

    33. Congratulations! It was hard to resist entering for Una. She's so pretty! But I did enter for a Sweet Dream Show AND WON! :D The little guy might not be staying in one piece though, as I'm hoping my partner wins the Young Cecile so we can make a DearSD Cecile and an SD Show. (Why don't they translate it as Syo anymore?)

    34. Super congratulations to you too! <3 That sounds adorable with a DearSD Cecile!

I do wonder why they don’t translate it as Syo anymore.

I entered for Una and Megu but you can guess who I wanted most of all, and I got her. Absolutely thrilled, quietly hoping for the cute floral socks because they’re adorable.

Will you put Cecile in the DSD default outfit? The one for the boys is adorable!

    35. Absolutely! It will make him into a tiny version of the first Cecile. Back when he was new and @idrisfynn was trying to convince me she needed him, I thought his Little Lord Fountleroy outfit and old old school face-up were atrocious for a $600 doll. But here we are trying to recreate him! :XD:

    36. Una. :dance

    37. YAY! Another Una!
My card always gets rejected too, but the rep I talked to from my bank this morning gave me a tip that made it work. If you put in a travel notification for Japan for the day you plan to charge the card, it goes right past the Mastercard international transaction block.

    38. Popping in to say I won a DearSD Una too! I am still stunned as the only other time I had won a Volks doll lottery was for Ernest. This is really a dream come true as she seemed so hard to obtain a few months ago when I became interested in DearSDs, being limited to Kyoto locations and events and rarely showing up on the second hand market.

      Congrats to @Lautturi, @mosaicwolf and @St. James too :)

Good luck to both of you for SD Cecile, I would love to see a DearSD Cecile!

      • x 3
    39. @ashlia Ooh, an Una and an Earnest in the same household! So dreamy!
Man, Volks really has my number with all of their soft fluffy boys lately.

      • x 1

    40. Ah, congrats! I had wanted to put in for a Show/Syo as well, but as I was already vying for a SD Williams, decided against it.

      • x 1
    41. I'm waiting on good news about SD Williams too. :XD:

    42. It's funny how the second weeks doll news is coming out before the first weeks dolls. Volks you're killing me here. XP But, good luck to the both of us!

I really like the DearSD boy outfits. I need one for my DearSD Tiffany, who I plan on making a boy. I wish Volks sold them separately.

    43. Indeed. I can understand why Volks wants to hedge their bets on sizing clothing, but it would be so much nicer if we could get pieces cut for specific body types. We need some indie makers to get on this size!

    44. I really hope someone does. I was tentative thinking about picking up this outfit for my DSD, インディゴエンブロイダリーBoy. Everything will still probably be a bit long, but with some hemming it may work.

      • x 1
    45. So glad to see three Unas at least coming to the international people. I really never held out any hope of getting her given, as mentioned, you’ve got to get lucky in Kyoto generally.

@Cloudedmind, that outfit is absolutely precious!

I’m going to probably make my Una the little sister of my DearSD Kira (who is on an SD10 body). Anyone hoping for a particular outfit? All I definitely want are the precious floral stockings, I’m fairly happy with any colour dress!

      • x 1
    46. I’m hoping for the Peach blossom, love that shade of pink >w< Would love the floral stockings and the brown mary janes too as finding shoes are likely to be a pain. I like the Starry blue set as well, but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t seem like Volks sends out the more girlish styled DearSDs with it

    47. I've had good luck with clothes made to fit the Disney Animator dolls with my DearSD Saki. There's a decent selection of pieces on Etsy and ebay.

Shoes are harder, you want to check both length and width before assuming they'll fit.

      • x 3
    48. I use mostly SD/SD13 size shoes for my Dear SDs, but they always wear stockings or socks; I figure that little girls wear ankle socks

    49. Congratulations to everyone welcoming more of these adorable dolls! :D I'm really pleased to see so many DearSD making their way internationally!! Especially Una because she has been so elusive for people.

@beamlette That dress on your Vanessa is a perfect size for her! :chibi

    50. @pris84, thanks! It’s an SD-size blouse and skirt set, with safety pins holding the back waist — don’t look there, lol! ;)

      • x 2
    51. @beamlette thank you for the tip for Animator size clothes. I love my Nono, but she's only got three outfits right now.

Mine came with the Peach Blossom outfit, which is my least favorite color of all the outfits

    52. Hi all! For anyone looking for nice DearSD sized kimono, Y!JA seller Kokum makes really lovely ones, and recently listed two new ones for sale here and here. This kimono is one that I own by Kokum, as is this one. My only suggestion would be to notice if the kimono is listed as made of cotton or made of recycled silk, as that does make a bit of a difference in how the kimono feels and lays, and the price.

Another seller who makes nice DearSD sized kimono is hoppecodo. They don't have any listed right now, though. This is one from hoppecodo that I own. They require a little more kimono knowledge because the obijime and obiage aren't pre-attached to the obi. Both sellers would require a shopping service to order from outside of Japan.

      • x 3
    53. Those are adorable! I have the kimono Megohime came in, would be cute to have the whole DearSD gang in kimono... for absolutely no reason. We've run out of clothing storage room in our tiny apartment though. *_*

    54. I think DearSD look PRECIOUS in kimono! I'd love to see a big gang kimono photo. And you can always tell yourself that kimono lie so nice and flat that they hardly take up any space at all... :sneaky

      • x 1
    55. @snowgray Thank you for sharing, I've been looking for a well-made kimono for my DearSD Coco for a while now and just couldn't find any that were to my taste. The kimonos made by Kokum look very nicely made :D

    56. Those asking about clothing, I discovered that Sasha clothes and shoes work really well on DearSD.

This is my Ushiwakamaru, Kitty, wearing vintage Sasha shoes - you can just about see them under the dress...she's with my SD Carol, Caroline, whose dress she had stolen...

    57. @Ayanami I hope you're able to get one of her kimonos for your girl in future! They're very nice indeed.

@Alice80, Kitty looks gorgeous! Ushi makes such a lovely little gal. Thank you for the tip about Sasha clothes.

If anyone is interested in sewing, dealer Ancienne (formerly Vita Vera) recently added two new downloadable patterns to her shop, and they include SD and DearSD sizes. I bought the St. Hildegard/Orietta dress pattern, but I haven't purchased the Anna pattern yet. For patterns, they're quite pricey! :sweat The patterns are labelled in Japanese but I think most people above beginner level can figure out the steps/pieces fairly easily. If anyone does buy the Anna pattern, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

For the dolly tax, here is my Tavi! I sewed her dress based on this free Peta-Peta pattern. I resized it to be a little smaller, but the un-resized SD version looks good on it's own, too! The directions are in Japanese but there are step-by-step photos.
