Volks DearSD 43cm Discussion Part 2

Right now VolksUSA is having an AfterEvent Lottery and they have four different DSD girls up for a chance to get! ^_^ I would say it is worth trying there, as secondhand can be very costly. Plus, this is only the 3rd time Vanessa and Tiffany have been up for purchase- but their first online lottery.

They are even cuter in person. You will not be disappointed when you get your first girl! ♡ I wasn't totally sold on them until I saw DSD Vanessa at LADolpa 2017.. but she stole my heart and I won her at this year's LADolpa! :3 She is one of my most prized girls in my entire collection already~ hehe ^^

 

I might be able to enter the lottery for the Dear SDs but I don't have a ton of hope for 1-entering or 2-winning one.

Hi. I entered for Vanessa, Tiffany and Megohime. Does anyone know if they post the lottery results all on the 18th or over serveral days?

 

@Yurikun, in the past for lottery items, there has been a big e-mailing and then a few later e-mails as Volks distributes dolls that weren’t paid for. But the date that they announced may not be exactly when the emails go out.

The current Halloween event at Mado includes SwD Kira! She’s similar to the other dreaming four sisters, but with a little smile on her lips. It’s really exciting to see Volks putting out the classic older sculpts as DearSD! I’d love to see a Kurumi/Miruku or Ran released on the DearSD body someday.

 

Oh ok. Do they usually go out early or later then the date they announce? I just would like to know when to start looking for them. I’m starting to get antsy to know if I won a doll.

 

If it helps any, I got the email when I won my Claude one-off last year at 3:21pm pacific. So hopefully this afternoon we'll start hearing. I didn't enter for a DearSD because I already got one in 2017 but I did enter for an Icon so I too am impatiently waiting for news. Good luck!

 

I am legit shaking right now. After losing out in the 2017 lottery, and again this past LA Dolpa at both the lottery, and rock, paper, scissors (I f'ing suck at that game >_< lol), I just got an email that I won DearSD Tiffany. I had to read it several times just to make sure it actually said winner, and not loser, Loser, LOSER. I was honestly expecting to lose again since it looked like there was only one of her.

Not to jump in, but what does "Next Monday" mean? The 21st? or the 28th? Because to me that means the 28th, or it would be "this" Monday. I really wish they wouldn't do that it seems a little unprofessional. Different places in the US have different meanings for phrases. I mean, being from the South when I moved to Minnesota I was really confused when people got upset with me when they said "a couple" and I asked how many. xD That could mean anything under 10 back home lol

 

That's a valid quibble; I wonder sometimes about it, too, even though I'm somewhat used to their phrasing. It wouldn't hurt Volks to add the exact date, to be precise, so no one is fuzzy on the meaning

I thought "a couple" was specific, meaning "two", but "a few" might mean less than 10

 

I thought the official announcement said the 21st, but I might be wrong.

 

The 21st is the starting date for the second phase of the Afterevent, so that may be what you're thinking of. Which are both Mondays, lol!

 

I think the deadline for payment is still the 21st too, but yeah their phrasing is not the best. XD

 

Jumping in this thread to say that I'm also expecting a DearSD Megu!! I've never done the Volks lottery before so I'm super happy I got the doll I wanted! (Except I didn't get most of the MDD clothes I entered for, lol.)
I have an SD10 Megu so I'm excited to have a short little twin for her. Eeeee I wish she could ship out tomorrow, I can't wait!!! But I have to!!!

 

I received a shipping notice. Hopefully, I'll have her by next week.

@Ayanami @PoeticSoul Thanks! It's her Volks default faceup. I'm not 100% sure what I'll do with her other then turning her into a boy, so she'll likely be keeping it for a while.

 

I'v got a question about DearSD hands, and would really appreciate some reassurance!
I was about to take my girl's hands off for blushing, but I realized the stringing system is different than I'm used to. The hand has a ring that's on a loop of thin cord, and that loops onto an S-hook in the arm. The problem is it's very tightly strung and I'm a bit nervous to put a ton of pressure on the wrist or pulling the S-hook all the way out.
Just curious if anyone had changed hands or restrung them and had some tips for dealing with this mechanism :O

 

@jadepixel, on the wrist end of the DearSD arm, there is a small groove where you can rest the s-hook when the hands are removed. It's just like the one-touch system on other Volks dolls, except that the groove is on the arm instead of the wrist ball. To me, it does feel tight when pulling the hands out, but so far I haven't lost the elastic into the arm yet. That said, mine doesn't have a ring on the loop of cord, it just has the loop of cord. If you're nervous, you could pull a piece of ribbon through the elastic before you try to remove a hand?

Hello! Does anyone know if the first and second release of the DearSD Kira came with a CoA. I purchased one secondhand in 2017 and just thought they didn't come with them. But, someone just sent me a screenshot a CoA for one from 2019. ANy help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

 

Yes, all DearSD releases have come with a CoA (although some people misplace them).
My DearSD Megu is from the 2017 L.A. Dolpa and she came with a CoA. It's similar to those that you receive with FCS dolls and as @pris84 already said, they have the headmold, event, date and a space for you to write your name too.

 

@pris84 & @Chibi_Rat Thanks so much for your help! How frustrating. I can't find the seller at this point to ask. It's just been too long. Well, lesson learned, I guess. I have everything but that and no doubts she is legit, but I'd like to have had it. Thanks again for your help!!

 

My DearSD from the most recent LA Dolpa came with a CoA, but Volks left the name blank. I don't know if that's a new thing or they were just too harried to bother. The doll pickup was kind of a mess and they didn't have enough staff to deal with it.

 

Yeah, I've always been asked to fill it out at pick-up.

 

Joining this thread as I just got my DearSD Kira! I love her proportions, posing and aesthetic The hard part will be finding shoes in the right size though... Has anyone been able to find a pair that fits, other than the ones from the official dress sets?

 

Has anyone found any boy clothing that will fit the DSD body?

 

@rakelnaomi, I’ve had luck with SD sized ankle boots, which helps hide some of the too-bigness. These boots from Nine9Style work for me (black ones too), and I have some similar Volks ones, too (photo). YMMV depending on how you feel about DearSDs in heels.

 

Ooh, boots are a good idea! The Volks ones look great on your girl. Can she stand well in them?
I did some more searching and it seems that Dollmore’s MSDs also have 6 cm feet. Maybe these could be an option for a Mary Jane-style shoe: Dollmore.net :: Everything for Doll & more

I purchased it from Moritime on Etsy. I love her work so much. I messaged her before I ordered it that it was for a DSD, so she adjusted the SD10 version for me.

 

@rakelnaomi, a very belated yes, my DearSDs can stand in those boots. In the photo I linked, my girl is standing without a stand or support. I wouldn't walk away from her like that, but she can stand on her own long enough for a photo! Some of the recent IG posts from Volks show the Show boys wearing similar boots, too.

For people looking for clothes, the seller kokum has been posting some very cute DearSD kimono lately on Y!J. They are a nice fit, not too skinny like some kimono labeled DSD/MSD! My girl could even kinda kneel in hers:

I am working on sewing a slightly reduced-size version of this free pattern from Peta Peta for DearSD size. That said, the original SD-sized version fits DearSD pretty well! I will post photos of both at some point in the future

@snowgray, thank you, that’s great to know! I got the Dollmore Mary Janes and while they do fit, they’re quite a hassle to get on and won’t allow for socks. I think I might just get my girl some boots instead

they are gorgeous, affordable and most importantly actually fit!

also, to all those looking for shoes that fit DSD, LeekeWorld's LS-058_G (for SD/SD13 girls) fit quite well, they leave room for pretty thick socks and the ankle strap keeps them on securely even with the slight gap at the toes. Unfortunately, only brown and white and currently in stock

and also, I have a question about heads
I just got a DearSD SwD Megu head from a friend and the inside of her head is oddly different in that the magnet on the headcap is in the front and the hook in the back of the head which is the reverse of that of my DearSD Megu and other dolls
is this normal?

 

@Chibi_Rat, that's normal. I always assumed it was so that you don't accidentally swap their headcaps!

Hi kind of a doll noob here lol. For the 4 sisters dearSD girls, they are the same head sculpt just different outfits and face makeup right?

 

@dollxheart, yes. Kira, Nana, Megu, and Sara are all the same headmold in SD and DearSD size. Una is the same headmold in white resin. SwD (Sweet Dream) Megu/Nana is the same headmold with slightly closed eyes. SwD Kira is the same headmold with slightly closed eyes and a little smile. Her sculpted lips are different, not just the faceup.

ETA: because I saw that you have an SDM Kira, DearSDs of the four sisters use the SD/60cm sized heads, so a DearSD would be a similar height to your SDM, but with a chubby body and enormous noggin The SDM “Four Sisters” have the same naming patterns, but so far only Kira and Una, plus their SwD versions, have been released so far. If I recall correctly!

 

Thanks for this helpful reply! I'm now interested in these DearSD dolls because obviously their faces are gorgeous, but I love their size! Having the sdm kira helped with determining if I would like the size or not. The faceups for these dolls made them look bit different from each other, I couldn't exactly tell if they were all the same headmold. Thanks for clearing that up

So I only purchased my first doll recently but I'm crazy and bought myself a Dear SD girl soon after and I love her! She's bald right now because I found it hard to put her wig on, plus messed up her curls I'll have to restyle it, but ahhhhhh i cant believe i have her. She came in her original box and clothes. I just couldn't pass her up!

Work has been killing me but I did manage to take some pictures of the DSDs together last month
Mafuyu likes having a friend her own size

 

I'm thinking of putting some different hands on my DearSD, to give her a slightly older look. Has anyone done this? Would Volks SD hands work, or are the measurements just too different? What about hands from other companies? If anyone has pictures or ideas about size/resin matches it would be greatly appreciated
