I know that NekoCon in Hampton usually has a BJD meetup. The convention is usually in late October or sometime in November. I know that you have to bring a doll for entry, but I don't remember what their recast policy is.
@marielaulu Is the meetup big? What usually happens? I've never been to Nekocon so I am curious as to what they do.
The meet-up is usually about 10-20 people. People like to talk about the hobby, display and talk about their dolls, and trade items. I went last year, there were a lot of nice people and some lovely dolls!
@jessholy There also is usually a few raffle items, sometimes they raffle off a full set doll. Before 2020, they also had tea and snacks. I don't know if they're going to bring that back this year though. They understandably didn't in 2021.
Thank you both of you for replying! That sounds fun! I probably won't attend this year but it is something to try to aim for if it is an annual thing!
I would agree. According to Wikipedia, the size in 2017 was 6900. As for the doll meet itself, I'd say it depends on the year. Before 2020, there were maybe 30 people. In 2021, my guess is about 15-20.
I'm not in Virginia, but I am going to NekoCon 2022 for the first time this November. It will be my first ever BJD meetup, so I'm pretty excited! Thanks for posting some info about their past meetups; it's helped give me an idea of what to expect.
I noticed that Nekocon removed the ABJD meetup page from their Programming section for this year. Does anybody know if it was cancelled or just simply not planned for this year? I plan on attending the con either way but I was really looking forward to the BJD meetup.
I'm not sure. I also very much like going to the meet up every year. It looks like they've removed their usual section abotu J-fashion too. Perhaps if there isn't an official BJD meet up, some people would like to have an informal meet up.
I found under programming earlier that they were renaming it the abjd meet up and swap meet or something similar. It was listed with j fashion. I can't find it now but I will be taking my stuff just in case.
A tad late to the party but is anyone around the stafford area? I'd be willing to meet up near Alexandria and Manassas too
@Biofreak659 I live in Woodbridge so I am here all the time haha. But I don't mind driving somewhere! Just have to remember there's a meet up...and make sure I am available.
I'm in Fairfax, but it's no problem for me to travel around for a meet! Is anyone going to Katsucon next month?
Officially, I haven't seen anything. In the past, people have met up in the lobby and had an unofficial meet there.
I think there was a meetup at katsu last year. I'd totally be interested in a meetup there this year though
I'm in Southern VA, but I'd be willing to meet up somewhere in NOVA. I'm originally from Fairfax so it would be nice to visit again.
@startracer I have never heard of this convention! I'll have to see if I can make it - I like the look of some of the guests!
Are you going all 3 days? I was thinking Friday. A doll meet up would be nice since it's probably slower day of the 3 days....I think
If I go, I will probably only go Saturday - I work a Monday - Friday job that doesn't offer a lot of personal leave.
I'm only going Saturday. I'll be there with my family, so I'm not sure if I plan on bringing a doll. If anyone else is meeting up though, I would come and say hi!
We only just decided to hit up GalaxyCon like, two days ago and I was just wondering if I should bring a doll! I'll be there today :3c
That's fine( the weather has been awful anyways ) . I haven't gotten a Sunday ticket but if they are still for sale perhaps I'll snag one.
@MissMistyKnits I was planning to go today but the Saturday tickets sold out So Sunday it is. I've never been to this con so I am excited and nervous. But since I am going for the purpose of seeing a certain celebrity, I am not going to bring a doll.
