USA Virginia Meetups

Jun 9, 2020

    1. Any Virginians out there? Maybe people from the southern, VA beach area? I'm in Hampton Roads. :)

I know this whole pandemic thing isn't the best time for meetups but with VA being in our "Phase 2" now I figured maybe it would be a good time for planning? Maybe something small?

I haven't been to a meetup since a convention back in like 2011, so I admit I'm not the best for planning this^^; I just really wanted to see if there were any other doll people in the area!

    2. I'm in Richmond! I've been looking for people to meetup as well. Not that close to your area, but I have relatives in VB so I go there fairly often anyway. My mom is also in the hobby, so that's two of us here!

    3. I’m near DC!

    4. I'm south of Richmond, VA. I used to go to meets around the area all the time, but a lot of the folks I knew then moved away. A couple of us still hang out around town, but as others have said, with the pandemic it hasn't been the best time for meeting people :sweat I have non-doll friends in Norfolk area that I visit from time to time so something out that way isn't necessarily off the table for me. Just, not with the state of things right now. :sorry

    5. my partner and i are in virginia! way out in the country, but we’re willing to travel and would love to do a meetup sometime/when the current situation is not so. if nothing else, we want to do a day trip out to fabric friends and dolls (doll shop with lots of bjds/accessories in olney, md), so maybe we could plan sthg round that? just an idea :3

    6. I'm in Maryland and Fabric and Friends usually has doll meets every month, but currently the shop is still closed due. There is a facebook group for updates on the meet-ups if you're interested, its called Dolly Tamale!

    7. I'm in the DC area and am willing to travel for a meetup! My dolls and I need a day trip!

    8. thanks so much for the info!! i really hope a doll meet will be in the near future!

    9. I'm in the Charlottesville area, myself. Once it's actually safe(ish) to be around people I would certainly love to go to some sort of meetup.

    10. I'm on the Peninsula and my daughter is also in the hobby and we also might be interested depending on circumstances.

    11. I'm WV, but if I take the wrong turn I'll end up in VA or MD. I'd look forward to this when (if) everything is back to normal.

    12. It’s nice to see some Virginians around here! I’m in the Williamsburg area, I used to live in Yorktown and I’m still close by

    13. That’s exciting to see people around Virginia! I’m in Sterling and look forward to seeing more updates about the meetup

    14. Hehe, I came here to comment and saw monkeybonesmom's reply. I am the daughter, I am moving back to Hampton Roads in a little over a month
Hopefully some of us on the peninsula can get together sometime

    15. I'm near DC as well! I could never make it to the Fabric Friends and Dolls meetups though, it's such a long drive ^^;;

    16. Oof I totally forgot I started this thread :sweat I guess when I made it I was more hopeful the covid thing would go away sooner rather than later... Ah well, it's still nice to see other doll people in the area, and some of us so close to each other! If I had remembered to check this thread back when the weather was a bit warmer I would've suggested a small outdoor meet, maybe at Colonial Williamsburg. Lots of space to spread out and beautiful locations to take pics! Maybe in the coming months when weather gets warmer and hopefully it'll be safer to gather.

    17. Oh gosh I live near colonial, the sights are great for pictures and there are many large areas to meet. That could be a great plan if all goes well next year ^_^

      • x 2
    18. Yes I love it there! I always like to take a smaller doll when I go for all the photo ops :love I really hope we can do something in the new year, it would be so much fun! :3nodding:

    19. I'm bit north of Charlottesville, I'd love to join a meetup sometime! This is so nice to see, here in central VA I wouldn't expect to see anyone in this sort of hobby :D

    20. I'm originally from DC, but I'm a student who is currently studying here in Hampton Roads and I'm considering on moving here after school, I would love to have a meet up especially to meet new people in what may or may not be my new home.

    21. Maybe now people are getting vacinated, we can look forward the planning a meet up soon.
      My daughter and
      I are in Hampton roads.

    22. I'm putting this thread in my watch list for when things get back to normal!

I'm in North Chesterfield - south of Richmond. I used to go to meet ups (and host) on a regular basis when I first got into dolls several years ago. I've been out of the hobby and recently got back into it. I can't wait to (hopefully) meet new peeps soon! :)

Also willing to drive just about anywhere to "nerd out" about dolls.

    23. Okay, when meets are feasible again I need to remember to poke you, cause we live close!

    24. I am in Roanoke VA! I took about a year long break from the BJD hobby due to life getting overwhelmingly hard haha. I am just now returning to this beloved hobby and would be thrilled to join a VA meetup once Covid relaxes! I miss this community so much :love

    25. Dropping a post here for when the 'rona situation becomes more stable - I'm in the DC area and I'd be happy to travel south for meets!

    26. Hopefully, it won't be that much longer.

    27. @monkeybonesmom Yay for more people in Hampton Roads!

It'll be so good to get together and share dolls - hopefully sooner rather than later! @SeraphBJD I know what you mean about missing the community. I got back into the hobby right when covid hit and I've missed talking/playing dolls with people for so long! :sweat

    28. Now that the vaccine is rolling along, would there be any interest in maybe an outdoor meet up, say in Newport News park or somewhere like that?

      • x 2
    29. @monkeybonesmom I'm interested! Gathering restrictions are supposed to be lifted soon too but I'd still be up for an outdoor meetup if the weather stays nice :)

    30. Soooo I decided to make a Facebook group for VA doll collectors specifically to see if that might help make planning easier? I know some people check Facebook more than they do here so, yeah :sweat
      Facebook Groups
And we can still plan on this thread of course! Just thought a fb group might be a fun place to find more dolly people to connect with :whee: And hopefully by the time we plan something we can all get gas at a reasonable price lol

    31. I’m from Richmond! I’ve never been to a meet up before (shy/awkward lol) but I’m interested

    32. I'm interested (although I live in DC, I'm willing to drive :)).

    33. I'm in Richmond also! :)

    34. Awesome! I just submitted a join request :)

    35. I just sent a request to join your Facebook Group! I'm fully vaccinated now and slowly trying to have a social life again. Looking forward to meeting you all in the near future! :)

    36. Seems like more people from Richmond are coming in! Maybe we could do something somewhere in the middle of Hampton Roads and Richmond since those look like the two places most people are posting from? Need to check a map lol

    37. I'm from MD and new to the hobby, I would love to attend a meetup to meet other people in the hobby at some point!

    38. Just tossing my hat into the ring here, I'm pretty much right near Richmond. c:

    39. I am also in RVA!

    40. Maybe somewhere around Williamsburg? That's pretty much smack in the middle of Richmond and Hampton Roads. (about an hour drive from either direction)

    41. @evilhamster13 yeah I searched around Facebook and all the VA groups seemed to be kinda dead lol. I went ahead and made the new one just in case they were never revived lol:sweat
@wolfylee Williamsburg would be good! I think colonial Williamsburg was mentioned a while back because of all the large outdoor spaces there.

    42. Yaknow, I've never been to Williamsburg outside of Busch Gardens lol. If we do a meetup around there it would be an interesting change of pace! c:

    43. Williamsburg Botanical Garden looks really nice for photo ops and it's free.

    44. I'm in the Hampton Roads area!! I also really want to learn how to make doll clothes - any of you Hampton Roads people do that??

    45. I do, I'm not a pro by any means but I do ok.

    46. Sometime after the pandemic we will all have to get together and share tips and stuff!

      ~Annabel Eden :aheartbea

The hardest part for me is finding patterns that I like that are the right size for my dolls. I'm not so good at adjusting patterns.

      • x 1
    48. I'm not a pro at all, but it's definitely something I enjoy! I'm also in Hampton Roads~! I have some Minifee patterns that have been working well for me. Other sizes are where I have difficulties :sweat

    49. I also have msd patterns that work but the problem is finding sd patterns that fit.

      • x 1
    50. @monkeybonesmom Yes. I have a lot of trouble with that, especially since I have varying sizes of SDs and different body types.

    51. I am very new to collecting BJDs, but am a longtime costumer, and fashion designer. I'm in NoVa as opposed to Hampton, but I'd be happy to assist at some point in showing others how to make doll clothes.

    52. How have I not seen this thread before? I too live in Virginia! However I am in NoVA - closer to D.C. than Richmond or Williamsburg. I wouldn't mind a meet up sometime! Now I need to find the FB group you made - I had joined one and they used to meet in a cafe or something somewhere but the dates and times never worked out for me. Plus driving Route 1 and 95 can be a pain.

    53. klytaemnestra, hello. It would be amazing to get tips on pattern making.

    54. I live in Hampton Roads too! I'm in Yorktown but I'm also in Williamsburg all the time. I know this thread is old, but if people in the area still want to meet up, I would love to meet more people in the hobby!

    55. I live in NOVA but have another close doll friend in Richmond. Would love to connect up with more VA doll people.

    56. Virginia BJD & Doll Collectors | Facebook Here's the Facebook link for anyone who asked recently! it's been kinda dead for a while, which, as the person who created it and then got really busy with some life/work stuff getting in the way, I'll take full responsibility for lol

Maybe we'll figure out something soon! I'd really love to meet & share dolls in person :)

    57. Is anyone going to Blerdcon? I know it's a bit niche but I'm bringing my bjd with me so I figured I'd ask.

    58. @ghostmilky I've never been to Blerdcon but let us know how it is! I'm still recovering financially from a family vacation so I probably won't go but now I want to look into it!

    59. I am. I'm competing in the cosplay contest so might not bring any dolls (just more to keep tack of), but I'd love to meet another BJD fan!
