Victorian Winter Dolls discussion

Jun 30, 2010

    1. Those beautiful eyes are on-topic! I cannot wait, I am going to get all the colors, so pretty :fangirl:

    2. They ARE fantastic ladyroselie! I have three pairs :)

Love the site redesign, VW! I already made my new account. I wonder, can previous customers add the Odettes and things we purchased before the redesign get added to the purchase history?

    3. :D I'm still adding all of them (I have 15 different kinds in total I believe!)

Anneke: Hmm...I'm not sure but I can try and see what I can do :)

    4. Sorry, there is no way to add to a Purchase history without actually buying something now :(

I do however have all purchases cataloged for future discounts :)

    5. Aw that's too bad, but good to know we can apply our points (or what it winds up being) for future purchases!

actually, has something happened to vw.com in the meantime? I keep trying to go back and check it out but it keeps loading the old website! Could be my browser though, Im still at a conference so Im rocking the smartphone browser at the moment...

    6. Oh I don't have a point system...it doesn't work with the coding ;A; but I will be doing discounts :)

Thats strange! I do still have the old shop still on the server but the direct link to the shop is:
      http://www.victorianwinter.com/store.php

    7. The fire fairy is beautiful!!

    8. I love the new website!!! :D The fire fae is very cute! Odette is still my favorite so far though :3

    9. I am super excited about the upcoming release as well. And to hear the news about on/offtopic dolls so we can chat about them! In the meantime, my girl Abernathy made a new friend today so I thought I would share :)

    10. As usual Anneke your girl is so stunningly beautiful! <3

    11. Thank you!! :D I am still hunting for a better wig, I really can't stand the Happy Camille wig :doh But finding a dark purple wig in her size is actually pretty gosh darn hard :sweat Most of the purple out there is more violet/pink, which is why I waited the better half of a year for what I thought was going to be the *perfect* purple for her. :| But that's another thread's discussion right there! LOL!

One thing I love about the Tylwyth Teg design though--Happy Camille's MSD sized wigs are probably in the 7-8" size range, so it's huge for her, but luckily with Odette's magnet ears I am able to pull the wig cap as far down as I need to and secure it in place by putting her ears right over it!

    12. I'm actually not happy with most of my HC wigs either...the one I got for Branwen looks stupid on her because it has those bangs on one side...didn't quite look like that in the pictures. Had to cut the wig for my Littlefee and it's actually too big!!

What's her head size? 6/7? So is Auroras....I need to get her a wig cap now. I probably won't be buying wigs from them again. Monique gold is my favorite so far but they NEED to get weirder colors!!!

    13. I like Monique wigs because they are one of the few companies that make lots of wigs without bangs! That anime/asian full blown bangs look is SO out of fashion in the west, and on top of that, my Abernathy has my MOST FAVORITE faceup of all my dolls but you can barely see it through her crazy bangs. I hope to find a Leeke or Fairyland wig for her soon that will hopefully be less frizzy. I wish Soom made more wigs in her size (6/7) because so far they make my favorite wigs that I own :)

I'm actually waiting on a Rosette girl, so I look forward to trying her clothes out with Odette! They have such similar proportions it'll be great to have found another doll that can share clothes :D

Oh, did everyone see!? BJDcollectasy posted an interview with VW! There's some great treats for those of us on the edge of our seats for news on the upcoming VW dolls.

    14. Hey guys/gals.
I know it's prolly ot, but i wanted to let you know I broke my promise. I ordered another VW doll. The little guy. LOL too too cute. :)

    15. Spammy spam time.
      Here's Ellie.

    16. :aheartbeaAnneke and TMTS!

I just love your faes! And that feather hair! OMGosh! stunning!!!!

Hey! You got your webpage going! Great! When will you have Odette fashions?:aheartbea

    17. Monkey- That's a great shot!

    18. I was house sitting for some people who live up in Yosemite Lakes park.
Can't turn down a chance to play around with dolls when you're in the woods!

    19. I know what you mean! That looks like a place were we go hiking. The moss on those rocks is incredible!!!!

      Definitely faerie surroundings!

    20. *Thankies Muse Star!!*

Wow, TMTS, that feathered hair is gorgeous!! :D It matches her eyes and her faceup so nicely, I hope to see more of her! :D

    21. yeah! I'd like to see more Odette owners..............

    22. ME TOO!! :D I saw a blank one go up on the MP and felt so bad for her! I wanted to bring her home to play with my Abernathy in the fairy garden XD But that might be a bit overboard and I think Abernathy might be the jealous type.

I have a Rosette girl coming home that will hopefully be Abernathy's playmate and possibly bring some cohesiveness to my fairy group. I bought my Luts elf Ani (Tinker Bell) to be Abernathy's friend, but that MNF body looks weird and stumpy next to the Tylwyth Teg's lithe proportions O_O SO, I figure who has the longest noodle body out there? And naturally discovered Rosettes!

Maybe a Rosette is overboard XD since their bodies are even skinnier and noodlier and longer than the Teg bodies (they have an entire 2cm height on her!) but I can't wait to see if they can share clothes!

*sigh* I love my little fae girlies ^^

    23. Oh wow.........there's a blank Odette? Maybe I'll go and check her out, that is if she is still there. Ah......yes, I have a few of the jealous type girls here too and a few that don't like vampires of which I have a few of as well. They are the dangerous ones, they are very loving, and I think some of my faes are quite intimidating towards them, so they just stay apart from each other.........probably a good idea! lol

You have a Rosette? Nice! I have not seen them in person....and I love your TB Luts girl. I have a Luts first edition boy 2005 that I really love, he sits here with me, but I don't do much with him........poor guy!

    24. Yeah my Mini fee is a little miffed about Ellie's tallness haha.
And Ellie is just so mischievous haha, she's always picking on my other MSDs.

    25. She looks looks like a mischevious one Monkey! But what faerie isn't? lol

And I love the noodle type body on VW because she really does look like a human like dragonfly. She is unique to herself.

VW.............more please! And we need more faerie cloths Monkey...........hint.........hint!! lol

    26. Do Odette's wings come blue even if you don't order body blushing? I am researching to get a MSD for Christmas.

I really do not like body blushing, but I also don't like plain clear resin parts (ended up selling two Soom fairies because their extra parts were clear, I don't know why, but I just can't stand it, too spoiled from colored transparent resins I guess).

    27. Good question. My Odette (Mystique) has clear blue wings and I don't think they are blushed, they don't look like it to me.

VW would be the one to ask. You have Soom faeries? I almost got the first one, but decided against them and got VW, I love hers so much

    28. Odette's wings are blushed, but when you order you can specify no blushing :)
I use gloss with Odette's wings to give it that non-frosty look, and more colored.
I didn't make them blue clear resin because I didn't want to limit anyone on colors of their own fae if they decide ^^

    29. Thanks for the info VW :) Super excited to get some faery eyes for my big girls, just can't decide on the colors!

Muse Star To be honest I loved the look of the Soom fairies, but IRL they were a nightmare for me. The faces were so tiny they didn't photograph well, restringing was really difficult, and they cannot sit or stand with all their fairy parts.

I guess the "fashion doll" size is just too thin/tiny for me. I have shorter dollys but they need some chubbiness to be able to play with without snapping like a twig ^^

    30. oooops! More colors? More options! Say pink, green purple..................

I love those so much! And ball jointed too! VW..........I love your dolls!

They don't sound like a good one to have. My Odette stands in water on rocks, she is so well balanced. Yeah, I'm not sure about the "fashion" size either for that same reason

Glad I went with VW Odette! I just love them!

    31. She is definitely the front runner on my Christmas list! I am really excited for the possibility of VW having more colored resin fae, I really really want a green skin tree girl.

    32. ladyroselie.........I really like your idea of a green skin tree girl! That would be awesome!

But Christmas is so far away! Maybe layaway................

    33. I was worried about Soom Faery Legends after seeing the first few owner pictures :| they look more like toys or ornaments than actual dolls, which is fine IMHO but I would get something like Dolkot's hand fairy Peya or an Inkling instead of paying an arm an a leg for impractical fantasy parts.

I love that Odette is truly a fantastical fairy, with all the fun and fae parts, without being miniscule or impractical.

Also, the other Teg has colored resin wings! So it stands to reason that we might see more colored resin fantasy parts in the future. :aheartbea

    34. I think that is why I decided against Soom and went with Odette. And with VW imagination.................I think we will see more to come. I can hardly wait!

    35. Muse Star I really do want to get an Odette, its not the $$ it is that I've gotten too many dolls this year and my boyfriend asked that I complete the dolls we already have before getting a new one and he will buy an MSD for Christmas.

I think that is more then fair, because I am the type to buy a doll before completing the last one and I get way ahead of myself. ...I am also waiting to see the new girl that will be released soon, according to the BJD Collectasy article!

Anneke I am also really excited to see the new parts VW will come out with, I would love some pretty, detailed angel wings in transparent pink! and I'd like to be able to get all the different wing parts when I do get an Odette :)

    36. ladyroselie I think I have the same problem you have, not completeing them. THere are so many out there that I want and pass up because, I too need to complete the ones I got. Poor things don't have many clothes.

I went on a "weeding" my dolls out. The ones in boxes that I never played with. So now I'm down to the ones I love.

But it would be a great Christmas present! :)

    37. Most of my dolls go naked too, but I like to think that being magical creatures they wouldn't want to be dressed anyway ;)

    38. I was feeling blue, so I thought I'd pull out my favorite dolly and contribute some comparisons in this thread of Abernathy--my Odette--and Tinker Bell--A Luts elf Ani on a Minifee body. I also grabbed some shots with Salandria, my Resinsoul Mei. These dollies don't exactly get along, but I convinced them it was for the good of Abernathy's forthcoming sisters to promote discussion and contribute to the knowledge base of Victorian Winter dolls :) ...or whatever, lol. Fairies are cute and gullible!

Anyway, here they are, side by side, the unique and fantastical Teg body and the more common (but still fantastic!) Resinsoul and Minifee bodies! (Salandria apologizes for being thusly undressed! Her outfit is still with a seamstress getting made!)

      Sitting!
      http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/fantomina/Abernathy/Compare_0246.jpg

You can really see in the sitting photo where a lot of Abernathy's height comes from! Her legs are long and lithe, a lot like the Resinsoul legs or (I assume) the Rosette legs. The MNF body can't be beat for posing, but you can see in these photos it looks almost a little chunky next to the other two.

I hope this helps some folks understand some more of the refined elegance of the Teg sized Victorian Winter dollies :)

    39. ladyroselie.........if mine are dressed it's mostly in faerie themed clothing. I just can't put jeans or a tee on a faerie

Anneke............WOW! great faerie shots you got there. How'd ya get them all posed together? I usually have to lure them in with sugar, cake or milk. And believe me, I've got alot of it here! ;) lol gullible little things! hehe

    40. LOL I told them it was a matter of the preservation of fae-kind in the den of the angels. Kind of true, those biblical types don't like to see our little heathenistic creatures crawling around their territory :XD:

Unlike humans, the fae band together when it's a matter of species preservation! :thumbup There aren't enough of them left in the world for them to be enemies forever!

I got the idea from a Souldoll Zenith discussion, since a lot of people have had issues with the size because of the proportions. Zeniths are similar to Super Gems in size, but they have smaller heads and narrower shoulders, basically more realistic to a slim build human. This makes Zenith really stand apart from a collection of similarly sized SD17 range dolls, and I was reminded of the Teg dolls who have similarly "different" proportions than what we're used to seeing in the BJD world :D For me, fae dolls can have different proportions because they are all different species of fae, but I can see if you have a row of humans all lined up and one looks like a pinhead next to the others, it might just throw you off a bit

I can't WAIT to do some comparison shots with my Rosette since those dolls are so bizarrely proportioned it'll be great to see how they compare side-by-side with the rest of my MSD crew! :aheartbea

    41. Hook line and sinker! Great annology thinking of the preservation. Either to beat them or............ join them.....mostly in my case. lol

But the idea is a great one, that way we all can see dolls that we may want or already have and haven't done this before, never thought of it really. *high five* I really like to see dolls lined up as if they were in a "mug" shot (psssssssst....don't tell the fae I said that...lol) and we can see may aspects of the differences between them. And I'm dying to see the Rosette comparisions, since I don't have one myself. :)

If they ask about the "mug" shot, I always say it's full of chocolate milk! They can be easily distracted by chocolate and milk or combine them.......makes them absolutely slap silly! lol ;)

    42. I am convinced now to get me Odette, but I have to "weed" out my collection on who I play with the most and who has been here the longest.

Thanks for putting up that comparison, it really shows how much I am falling for her.

    43. I got a new wig for Abernathy and I wanted to share it here. Leekeworld 6/6.5 wigs are a PERFECT fit, and come in lovely colors :) Abby needed to get her hair up because she was feeling a bit childish with it always falling in her eyes :doh

She is still getting used to having a mohair wig instead of fiber, but Suli, my little Daisy Dayes Elise, is sharing a few secret remedies for keeping control of mohair (the secret is in the butterfly kisses contained in her magic bottle!) :aheartbea:aheartbea

      http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/fantomina/Abernathy/Abernathy_Suli_0179.jpg

    44. Wow! That wig is amazing!

arg! I want to get Odette SO badly! There just never seems to enough money!

    45. She is definitely a special doll! If I had an option of keeping only one and losing the rest, she would be the one I would keep forever. :) There's just something so personal and charming about such a unique and rare artist doll. I would recommend getting her when you have a chance, even though she isn't limited, you never know when artists' dolls will become unvailable! I've actually seen a few on the MP that need a new home as well ;)

    46. Well, I've heard sales are very slow for the Teg dolls so I'd like buy from the company itself.

Maybe after November I can save up for Odette.

    47. That sounds like a good plan! :thumbup I got mine just before Christmas and it was awesome having her sat beneath the Christmas tree when I opened her :XD: Also, VW sells her dolls in batches and keeps them in stock so you don't have to wait for production!

*Sigh* After going back to her site to look at these just now I forgot how magical her entire lineup of fantasy dollies are :aheartbea:aheartbea

    48. Any word on when she will be getting more back in stock?

    49. I know that VW is working on upgrading the TT body now, and hopes to restock once that project is finished. I havent seen any progress pictures except I believe she posted pictures of the new thigh joint on her forum or the VW facebook page.

I am hoping there will be a new Teg when she restocks but that's purely my speculation XD

    50. I'm so very glad to hear that. I read on there she will do layaway, so I have been thinking. :D

    51. It would definitely be incredible to see her make a comeback! I love my Odette and maybe the new version body will get the other TT sculpts on topic :)

    52. I found her page today and I instantly fell unloved with Odette. I hope shell have some more of her in a bit. She's for sure my next purchase.

    53. Oh yay, I hope you get a chance to buy an Odette, Beetle! I love my girl, she's definitely the star of my collection ^^

I'm not sure when Victorian Winter will be releasing her next batch of orders (she does them in batches to help with production time) but I believe her next release will have the upgraded bodies with double jointed legs :)

    54. I hope so to. She is just lovely looking and from what everyone here has shown and said, I know for sure I want her. I'll just keep an eye out for when she releases again. Gives me time to save up :D

    55. No updates since 2012!? :shudder

I just took my Odette outside for a photoshoot yesterday. Does anyone still have their Odette and would like to share? :)

    56. I still have my Odette! I'm the one who made that doll's costume, all those years ago!
How is she/her clothes holding up? Mine is a bit worse for wear, we've been through a lot.

(I just logged back into my DOA account for the first time since forever and this was one of the last threads I had commented on, before I stepped away from it all.)

    57. My girl’s outfit is still as beautiful as the day she arrived! She has a bit of a new look, too, but my power is out and I can’t get a photo. I’ll share asap though because I love her so much and really should share :)

    58. [IMG]

Here she is! I went for a more frost-bitten look, and I absolutely love her. She's the main doll on my list of "if I had to run out of my burning house and grab only ONE DOLL" :)

    59. I actually never got her bodice to close all the way :( Also, I never got a chance to get Gwendolyn, the fire faery. I think you made her outfit too, right? Any pictures of her?

    60. Her wig and eyes look great! where did you get them?
It's great that she has an updated look! I need a new wig for mine but I haven't decided what style I want for her.

It doesn't entirely surprise me that the bodice doesn't close up all the way- I've learned so much about sewing since then, I was such a baby when I was making these 10 years ago. I actually sew professionally for theater now- and looking back this was my first real professional sewing I did.

I'll have to figure out how to mesh DOA with the modern technology of cell phones to post a photo but yest I have Gwendolyn! I will post photos of both my girls soon... I have one of the Bwkas too though I don't know where he is right now. :\

I hope to re-dress mine both sometime soon- I know I've learned so much, there are some things I'd do differently now.

They're my burning building dolls too! I feel like they could never be replaced while my others probably could!
