I'm planning on making a ventilated wig for the guy in my avatar. Some heat resistant synthetic fiber just came in from Dollmore that I plan to use, and I have some fabric I got in a previous order from Dollmore specifically for wig-making. The thing that has me caught up: deciding between going full ventilated or using the glue-wefting method for the short hair in back. Is it really possible to do a full ventilated short style in SD (8/9, 21cm circumference for reference) scale that won't end up being too wonky? Anyone have any general types on ventilated wigs while we're at it? Also, I'm planning to use a 1920s finger wave/curl for this wig. Anybody got any good suggestions for achieving such wave/curl in that scale? Any advice would be much appreciated
I just made a partially ventilated wig for an MSD and Yo-SD sized doll. I did the center part and front edge (bangs/fringe,etc) and it worked really well with the rest of the wig just being glued together. I started with the ventilated part first, then attached it to my wig-cap base, and then stuck the glued wefts on. I only have a pic of my MSD version online: IMG_0157 by hellsing365, on Flickr IMG_0162 by hellsing365, on Flickr
It is possible to do finger waving without going full ventilation. I did a lot of fingerwave attempts during the 1920s obsession phase 2015-2016-ish. The easiest approximation of the finger wave style is just to comb wavy/curly hair to line up together and to set it. The more authentic 1920s method, it takes clips, pins, and more aggressive hair gelling. I tried old-school pomade on myself and that stuff is like rubber cement for your hair. Guys shampooed their hair less often back then so you just.... glue your hair into place for a while... If you want really sharp curves, wave clips are good for that. This is a more feminine fingerwave-esque style. Just done by combing a curly synthetic wig so the curls lined up with each other and some light hair gel. 20161203_201207 by Kaxen6, on Flickr Az's old hairdo is a bit Tahno-esque. This old wig is a lot chunkier than the skill level I am at now. It's all glue wefts. 20160324_101817 by Kaxen6, on Flickr ....I can't believe I spent hours styling Nick's hair but I don't seem to have a single dang photo of his hair that shows it off in lighting that isn't kinda meh. =_= His styling was done with clips, which gives his hair the sharper wave shaping.
