Update 4/2/08 - new heads, hands+casting - "Tier-in-Mir" - 60cm Humanimanoid Doll

Feb 26, 2007

1. Pay more attention next time. There'll be a pop quiz soon. :|

2. lolz. no more babysitting for you indeed. you're like this negligent woman from when i was little and she let this girl throw blocks at this little boys head. for shaaaaaaaame. :P

3. She turned out beautiful! Congrats!

4. Congratulations, she's really gorgeous.

5. To Everyone: Thanks for all the wonderful comments...I am so glad you like her! I am so happy with her and she gives me great joy just to see sitting around, holding her, or playing with my other dolls in my dollie family. :D

...

Hey everyone! Sorry I disappeared! X33

Well, things have been a madhouse since I got home so I doubt I'll have time to make some more castings till late July. :whee: I got cosplay costumes to finish by Anime Next and Otakon time and work starting at the end of the month. That and I got sick this past week and just got two wisdom teeth pulled….so I’m out of commission for a while as it is. O_o

I haven't even had time to repaint Nesha (as her sealer never set properly.... >_> Why does this always happen to me?! I never had a problem with that sealer before) and seal her with some satin sculpey glaze that I KNOW will not scratch and will dry. (I didn't do this the first time cause I was rushing to get her painted in time for class.) She’s not as bad as Nixie tho, luckily. My friends keep trying to steal her / are scared of her, and now my friend Kat wants one too. X33

...

But In the meantime, how about those who are SERIOUSLY interested parties send me a PM, and what head you are looking forward to (As I plan to have a tiger head and the Tokala head this summer). First five to do so will be put at the top of the orders list when I start getting casting. :) I won't be taking more than 5 body orders this summer I think, also I doubt I'll get more than 10-20 good castings from the molds anyway. We'll have to see. I'm free through August so I may become more productive then I think. (I'm just swamped this June and July. XD ) This IS a one girl operation remember. ^^; I plan to do a one off or two as well if I can. :)

For those in the know:

STATS:

This first run of my dolls are made with Smooth-On 300 series of snow-white resin, it is durable, strong, drillable / sandable, lightweight (but not too light :) I find Nesha has a good weight), and is NOT noted as being UV-resistant in a raw, un-dyed state (may yellow over time if exposed to lots of direct sun). This could be helped by using a UV-protective sealer I guess.

PLEASE NOTE I am just one person, and I have NO vaccum machine. These are artists dolls, and I am not perfect. X3 There may be a bubble or dirt bits here or there, but I'd never sell anything with defects that I feel is not of an acceptable level or something I myself would not accept.

-All parts come with their seams sanded as best to my ability.
-Headcaps of the heads are MAGNET fit.
-Feet / wrists are S-HOOK attached for easy stringing / posing

These are the prices I've calculated:

Body: $420 (Assembled/strung, comes with two homemade doll body pillows you can easily stick in a carying bag for protection. BY REQUEST tail assembly comes with with basic blank ultrasuede tail that you can easily paint to your liking. It is no extra tho, but only if you want it.)

Head: $80

(So then full doll = $500)

Extra stuff:

*Extra tail assembly end (so you can change out the tail easier for want alt. tails): 50 cents
*Special tails: $10-25
*REAL tails: (like made from coyote or fox tail) $12-20
*Face-ups: $10-25
*Body paint jobs: $20-60 (This is for markings and general blush type stuff, I wouldn’t recommend a FULL on new body paint, that can chip heavily over time.)
*Wool wig: +$25 (I’ll have to see if I have time to offer some) They will be specially made to fit whichever head you choose and done on ultrasuede head caps.

Shipping in the USA will be by priority mail and will be about $12-$18 dollars (for a full doll, heads alone would be less cause they are lighter). Payment by money order is PERFERRED but I’ll have to see if I can set up my paypal account to take bank transfers, I’m not good with GETTING money on paypal just using it to pay FOR stuff. XD

Alright, so that’s it for now. Back to work on cosplays! :D I hope to hear from people!

6. And why not: Some more cute pics! :D

7. You are amazing. If I ever had the money to buy an SD, this would be the one I'd buy.

*huge amounts of applause!!!!!!!!!!!*

8. Your doll is amazing! (The cat mask hits a special soft spot for me, but the humanoid face is amazingly detailed O_O)

Could you tell me how much silicone you used for the molds, and how much resin it takes to cast one doll? (I am making a similar-sized doll, and would like to know what kind of cost I'm looking at for my first cast.)

I guess how thick the walls of the mod box are makes a big difference...as well as how thick your resin walls are :\ But any estimate would be SO helpful >_< Thank you!

The mobility of your doll looks delightful :O

9. I'm looking forward to seeing Tokala finished. I'm personally thinking of a fox character of mine for her. I might be more interesting in a less mask like head though...

But the idea of a white fox.. ooooh fun.

10. Brilliant work. That is quite an achievement! Congratulations. :daisy

11. My GAWD that's amazing! I am so jealous of your talent! WOW!! She's incredible! Hurray for YOU!!!

12. I got to see her in person at AnimeNEXT this year and she is really really amazing! Her posability is awesome and she has got a very nice feel to her. You can tell a lot of work went into this unique sculpt. As an aside, Lithe-Fider makes the best Shino ever... >_>

13. HEY FOLKS! X33 Just got back from Animenext! And now we are scrambling to finnish costumes for Otakon...hence why casting can't be worked on till August. I am glad to have heard from some interested parties! I really want to make sure she goes to good homes, this is like sending off my babies... ^^; !

I had to make a little change to the cost of the body:

Please note it is 420 now (from 400) and comes with two doll body pillows (like most dolls come with) but nobag. The mateirals for making the bags was too much and I really don't have any time (they were taking longer than I thought). Also, one other change is I will send her with the basic tiger tail attached to the assembly on REQUEST, no extra charge, but only if you want it (cause I don't want to send her with it if you will just take it off and not use it). Any tail you make can be easily glued to the tail assembly, so you don't NEED my made one, but if you want it, no problem. :)

Sorry for the inconvience. *bow*

*WAVE*! I loved the doll panel and the meet! Thanks for checking out my girl, I can't wait to repaint her she will look much nicer! I am glad you liked her and she idneed took a lot of love and work... *_* *huggles her*

 *laugh* why thank you *blush* ! I am even cosplaying as his father at Otakon, I hope I can make a good Shibi too (if I can be a good Shino)!

14. Will you be taking new orders?

15. I was wondering if the hands could be bough seperate. I love those hands!

16. wow, so beautiful!

17. Oh my goodness! (O.o) I can't believe I hid from the forum to stop buying dollies and missed out on the amazing creation! *WOW* She's is GORGEOUS! *I've a horrible feeling I'm going to have to hide from teh forum again!*

And the Tokala head reminds me of the characters from an anime I'd seen - Kakurenbo (hide n' seek)!!! (Kinda dark theme, but love it personally)

18. the fox-ish face is sooo cute ! love the expression ^^
and the tail is a great idea ! :)

19. I really loved the Tokala head on the first page. Are you still planning on making it an option head? :)

20. wow!! it looks really great!
the paintings on the body are so special *__*

21. Amazing. That paint job is outta this world!

22. oh WOW! she looks amazing! you did a wonderful job!!! he hands are REALY good! (is haoribul when it comes to hands on any medium)

23. Congratulations! She is simply amazing in every detail!

24. Oh man if you could cast her with a feline head I'd buy her in a heartbeat for my Character Failarhya. Any chance you might cast another one? Oh Pleaseeee?

25. Wow, that is an amazingly magnificent doll. I'm so impressed, inspired and .. humbled. :D

26. Hey everyone! :D I am indeed alive! :whee: I come back to see a busy Artist BJD section, it warms my heart to see all the new projects!

Summer anime con hecticness ate my life, and it was the most HUMID summer EVER....so I couldn't do any casting. :( Hence why I didn't come back to post, I was so depressed I couldn't cast I felt awful about coming back with the bad news to those wishing for one of my girls.

Then this past quarter at college I began my senior project and took Stop Motion animation (DAMN awesome stuff! :D )! :) I could not bring my molds back to college with me tho anyway...

So, now that I'm home for winter break I FINALLY can cast cause it's winter and obviously not humid. (Just have to work in the shop with heaters on.) If I'm going to cast more of my first Tier-in-Mir I gotta do it NOW as I won't be home again till Summer and Ooomoo only has a shelf life of about a year. X3

And YES I do plan on making a mold for Tokala. :) So she'll be an option head hopefully.

I'll get back on if I get successful castings. I have two-three people lined up who had PM'ed me months ago about having one, they have first dibs. I'll most likely put one or two painted up girls in the Marketplace as one-offs for bidding (aka on ebay, but linked to in the Marketplace).

Let's see how well this goes! I hope to be ablw to send some of my girls off to good loving homes to fund my next quadruped BJD project! :D

27. :drool she is gorgeous! ::makes grabby hands::

28. will you bee takin orders`?

29. Well, casting is underway! :) I haven’t used the molds since I completed her in May. Things are going good, it's just a big undertaking being this IS a 60cm doll and she has 18 molds, 4 of which must be duplicated twice to make a full doll (As the knee, arms 1 + 2, and foot plate are the same both sides).

My friend Kat, also known as ~A Kat with wings~ here on DoA, helped me out with casting the first batch. She was interested in learning about molds / casting (she wants to make her own dolls too) so she is like my apprentice of sorts. X33 Hehe! That and she’s earning a doll for herself, she really wants a Tier-in-Mir to make a Doberman hellhound head for! Sounds cool to me. :D

Here she is applying some baby powder with a brush to molds for me (I use it as mold release and to give the resin a powdery finish). Sporting a sexy fun respirator and nitrile gloves (I had one on too). Safety first!!

Here is the (UBER cleaned up than usual XD) shop where I've set up my stuff at home. I’m borrowing it from my dad (note all the woodworking stuff). We get cross ventilation from the stairwell window out the side window (and a fan too, why not? :P ). We have 3 heaters going to keep it 72 degrees in there, perfect casting temperature (as in NJ where I live it's like 30 degrees out now :sweat , but dry, so great for casting if you keep it warm inside.).

The leg molds laid put and some other smaller molds
[IMG]

From working yesterday with Kat and today, I have one full doll all cast, :) and another about half done. With wasting some from spills, pour cups, etc, I think I'll be able to get 3 dolls plus some extra parts + heads from my two gallon kit. (It took about 50 oz to make one doll, that includes spills and waste.) Maybe four. People were asking how much resin a doll took, so there’s my answer. X3

Maybe for my next batch of resin I'll try some dyes and clear resin *really wants French resin look* :whee: !!

30. OMG more stuff! XD

…

Here are some pics of Tokala, remember her? :D She is a fox mask who came to life. She is almost ready for moldmaking. I worked very hard on her and fixed her up a lot since you saw her last. She looks stellar on a body and really comes alive then. ^__^

I got some nice mold max brush on silicone to make her mold with, it should be very durable. I hope to sell heads of her as standalones, perhaps someone would want her for other bodies too?

Here is the Tigeress head in progress. :D She will have poofy furry tiger cheeks when done! And will have a light fur texture all over, I am going for semi realistic on this one, or as realistic as possible while still being practical. In this pic you can see the bottom half is baked (I baked that part then continued work on top, so it wouldn’t squish on me as I worked).

I am also making a new set of hands. I am unhappy with the pointy finger mold, it has an air bubble void where her nails point up (the ones against her palm) and they never come out well even with tipping. Easy to fix with some epoxy, but I want to make a new hand anyway.

The new right hand is still in progress. I dunno what pose to do. XD I was thinking a middle finger pose *snicker… XD;; * But that seems impractical for everyday wear. Maybe a relaxed fist? I dunno. o__o

So original hands and the other ones I'm making:

The ‘rar’ hand as it has been called:

...

I already have some parties lined up, I’ll have to see if they are still interested before I take any more, but yes, I am going to be sending some girls to new homes *will miss them!* However many my molds will make till they die, which should be about 30 castings each….maybe? I dunno. I will be auctioning one off I hope too, that will be in the marketplace (maybe ebay?), but I'll tell about it here when I do.

Ooomoo is not the strongest of silicones, it doesn’t have a long shelf life or durability to casting. I used it cause it’s cheaper and forgiving to mix ratio. I was new to casting and it is good for beginners. ^_^ XD

31. hey, also if anyone is interested here is the WIP picks of my head for the doll, its based of of a Doberman pincher, for a hell hound type of look ---> LINK
i am in the middle of fixing the ears at the moment, then i will move on to working on other details XP hope you like.

~Kat

EDIT: i fixed the ears and did more detail, and look, their are eyes!!!!! LOL. ----> ITS KNIVES

32. Oooo, Lithe! Are you going to be selling the hand parts separately? *would LOVE the "rar" hands* And wheeee! Tokala! - speaking of which, ever thought of just making fox masks to fit over the dollies? ;)

33. OMG yay the fox mask! I've been waiting too see more of that!

With the ears on the head, it might be difficult to put a wig on her... although my vision for her has her in a black hood anyways.

34. I love your creations! those hands are love! Can't wait to see the finished product!

35. Wow, it's quite a project. Those hands are really really cool :D

36. Lithe-Fider!!! those hands are awesome!!! I need to do some that feel that evil.....

amazing!

37. :D I am really REALLY impressed, she looks so awesome, have you got a price for her yet? Interesting doll and very cool looking. Will watch this thread and your work close.

38. man, I really wish I could sculpt now!

39. how much silicone did you use to make the molds?

p.s. i hope i am still on your sale list!

40. wow. Awesome. With all those molds. *.* Good luck in the future too! ^^

41. Hey everyone! I'm in my last quarter of college! *_* My life is my animation, but I can't wait to get home for summer and do some dollie work! I'll be making molds for Tokala and the new hands when I get home.

A bit of an update, we was able to get 5 full Tier-in-mir bodies from our casting session, as well as 4 Nyssa heads (aka "the Nesha head") and 10 Larxene kunai (lol not doll related). They still are un-cleaned up but I left that for when I get home. :)

One of the five is a 'junk doll' (made from the 'junky' cast parts, IE any with dirt, obvious bubble, etc) who I'll paint fully into something cool for a Tokala head ^^ , one is to be Nesha's new body, and one is for Kat's boy Knives. Two bodies are avaiable for new homes, as well as the four heads.

Sadly, DoA deleted all my PM's.... :doh so I lost a LOT of info about people who had PM'ed me. I had a list in word but it wasn't complete I think. I'll be PMing those I do have...

I really hope my molds are still okay this summer when I get back. Then I'll try casting some more of my first Tier-in-mir, and of course do the new hands and Tokala head. It can help fund the Tier-in-imir Zauberin and Freunde (The MSD 'fairy' Tier-in-mir fox girl and new quadruped animal BJD I designed).

I'll be posting a thread in the Marketplace for SERIOUS preorders once I am home and working on casting the Tokala head, new hands, and possibly more Tier-in-Mir bodies. Until then this is still a news thread cause I'm not done with those things yet. Most likely this thread will close when that time comes cause of new forum rules, cause my work on the 60" Tier-in-Mir outside of new heads will be complete, and I'll be onto new projects. :)
Questions! ^^

I could I guess, if people wanted them. ^_^ They are kinda standard sized wirst-ball-wise...I'd need to test them in some of my friend's doll wrists. :)

I SHOULD make some kybuki masks cast in resin. That may be cool....but I dunno how well they'd fit over all doll faces cause of the shape and sizes differences... *_*

:) Hehe yea! It's been so long but she SHALL be done *fist of fury* And you could if the wig was made special with holes or slits for the ears. ^^ I'm interested to see what visions people have for her, she seems very mysterious O_O !

Thank you so much! :D

:blush

Thank you! :kitty2 I'm asking $80 for heads and $420 for a body. That includes stringing, pillows, and major seam sanding (she comes out of the molds pretty seamless mostly anyway). Headcaps are magnet close. Body's come with a white base tiger tail on the tail assembly UPON REQUEST, it's no extra charge but if you're going to put your own tail on it and don't want it I won't make it. XD Things like special paint jobs, faceups, wigs, special tails, etc can be done for extra. Heads sent alone come in their own box.

It took a little less than 4 gallons, that includes small spills, loss in mixing, and whatnot.

And yes you are :) Sent you a PM in fact!

42. I didn't get a PM. :( I LOVE this body.

43. awww my PM must have been one of the eaten ones :( I was wondering why I hadn't heard anything, and it just occurred to me today to check out the thread itself (duh:doh)

I am still majorly interested in a Tokala head, and body too if the mold lasts. I'll PM you now ^_^

44. I can't wait till you get home for the summer so we can do some more work:D
:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

45. Fantastic doll!

46. Still watching and waiting myself. I'm interested in those hands - like many others! I'm suspecting my PM was one of the eaten ones?

47. Wow that is amazing! She is so beautiful, I am envious of your sculpting ability.

48. Hello ^^ I was wondering if you would ever consider making the leg parts for commission? my Partner wants digit grade feet for a doll he's buying.

49. Now THAT's what I'm talking about! I'm not into hooves, I much prefer those clawed feet :D:D. Have you thought of selling parts? It'll be so in demand (I want em too!).

50. I really want a pair of those legs *_* i really hope you'll be selling them seperatly. I wonder if they would fit other dolls...
