INFO

Way back when I said I would create a 60cm Human doll with digitigrade feet and clawed hands with anthro heads, like Nixie but improved everything where I made mistakes before, and that I wanted to cast them in resin.

Well, that finally came to realization. :D I took a casting and mold-making course this spring at my college, and did it for my final.

These were pics of her back when she was begun in Sculpey:

She is 2 feet (60cm) tall (Everyone was wondering if she was really uber tall, but the pics just make an illusion of that XD .) She has a double knee joint similar to Volk’s Yukinojo. I liked the idea of this extra joint and wanted to give it a try. Ended up working just fine.

The S-hook in her feet is on a little ‘plate’ that snaps flush into the bottom of her foot, making it totally invisible. She will not be able to bend at her foot, but will still at the ankle. I wanted to have a nicely sculpted toe area so I had to sacrifice the posing there. It really wouldn’t have added much posing ANYWAY (it’s all in the ankle) so it’s not so much of a loss.

Tiger head in progress:

"Nyssa" head....which looks like me XD (had to makle it to stay in line with the school project). AKA the Nesha head:

Original sculpt for the "Tokala” head; she is like a living fox mask.

2. Oooo, i love the legs and the feet are amazing!!!

3. Looking really cool. Great sculpting skills!

4. I love a lot a lot humanoïd creatures ! So yours is really interesting for me !

Feets are realistic, what a good job ! And the Fox mask face is a good idea !
Hope to see more soon !

5. Face and feet are wonderful! So original creation, congrats!;-)

6. She looks great so far!

7. Oh, wow. Great job, you're my idol of animal dolls now XD I like the leg and head designs<3

8. Ooohhhh . . . I love her FEET . . . I can't wait to see her finished! (And smart you, managing to get college credit out of this, wheeee!!)

Best of luck! ^_^

-- Andi :D

9. The head and feet are absolutely exceptional!
The whole body seems to be sculpted incredibly well; very proffessional look to it.
I'm very impressed!
Though I'm not very interested in Humanoid things/creatures/dolls, I may actually look into this one... very interesting!!

10. Awesome! I love the feet ;)

I have been working on some digigrade legs for the last several months and it is great to see what other people are working on

Here’s a sneak peak I haven't posted anywhere else if you are interested http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/MisticUnicorn/animals/sarahbseiter_sample.jpg
It is outdated since I have reworked the joints and finished sculpting the hands and other things, but I do not have any new pics of the whole doll yet. I am planning to cast soon, so I should have more pics then.

I look forward to seeing your doll progress :)

Best of luck!

11. Oh wow, that is so amasing!
I love her feet so much, and the body is so impressive.
Just.. wow!

12. Her feet are awesome. I've always wondered if a sort of extended foot/ankle joint would work, and it looks like you beat me to trying it out. xD
Can't wait to see her finished!

13. Oh wow :D I love her curvy legs with the big calf/thigh muscles! I would have liked to have Tierinmir like that but I wanted a double knee joint, and I didn't want the knee area that thin then...... >_>

Does your's stand well? I would LOVE to design some digigrade legs for a BJD that can stay in a slightly bent position and still have them stand, but it seems they will always have to be straight I guess... I am plotting a Kleine Tierinmir ("small or chibi") who will be able to stand like that....we'll see... : D

Please do post pics when you do more, I wanna see! :D

14. College credit FTW! XDD

Yes, her feet are much fun! Thank you! ^__^ I'm dreading making another (damn for symmetry!) But I guess I'll manage.

BTW I saw some pics of that fox head you're making, REALLY sweet stuff! ;) I think you made Nixie blush, careful she'll fall in love.

15. Thanks :aheartbea

I am still working on the leg design. I hope to make it so she can stand with the legs bent slightly, but it will take some more experimenting I think, though I am hopeful ;)

*hugs*
~Sarah~

16. Very cool concept!

17. yay!
wow, that's an impressive foot @___@
i also really like your makeup idea.

18. Those feet are awesome! I can't wait to see her complete. :aheartbea

19. The peanut gallery demands more awesome pictures! :3 With the love of the work! It's fantastic!

20. Wooooow !!! It's very surprising !! I'm totally in love with your leg !!! :love

21. H'OMIGOSH! SHE'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! :whee:

Kitsune-chan!!!!!

22. Having seen your work up close (I have seen Baron, and will be repairing him) I will definately be ordering one when ya get the molds done ^^

23. Those feet are amazing! :D

24. Absolutely amazing. I can see you put your heart into your work. :) It must feel thrilling to be able to create something like that. I especially love the legs and foot. :D

Keep us posted!

25. I seriously love the body, would you be possibly selling the body without the head, because I sure have a head for this body allready! ;D *Rolls in five severed dollyheads*

26. And she really stands on those feet? wow

27. Uwaa! I want one! She's amazing! What a great job. She's so detailed!

28. Wow, she's wonderful! I always loved Nixie and it's wonderful to see you working on another doll. I've always loved foxes, particularly the ones you find in Japanese art, so seeing the Tokala head is amazing. I look forward to seeing more!

29. Wow that is beautiful :D I love the concept of animal like dolls, I can't wait to see your progress :).

30. This is really impressive work. I am absolutely amazed at the detail, especially on the feet! They are perfect!

31. I'm very excited to see the finished product of this wonderful endeavor. :)

32. Ohhh, she's very cute, I love her feets!!!

33. O___O

I'm shocked in front of your work, the legs and feet are so realistic, whaouh!!!!!!

and the head, my gosh, looks like one mask of tengu or something like that

I don't know how much to say, it's reaaly amazing

34. oh so lovely! after this one, think you can make a ratty? :D

35. The leg is incredible @@"
Wait for the finished photo!!<3

36. I'd totally be interested in one if you had like....an optional boy chest....

37. oh, i beg you to do up her face like that! it's amazing

38. the feet are amazing!

39. OMGOMGOMG~!! I've never really liked animal-ish dolls before (Catsy, Mau, Misa-Minky.. never really affected me). But the minute I saw this one, I screamed, "I WANT HER!!" My mom was like, "What? Want who?". XDD OMG. I soooo so so wish I had the money for her.. and alas, I have to spent $700 on two bodies first. Dx *sob*

40. Kitsune! oh those feet are FAbulous -- will they balance well? and do you have a general price range in mind?

41. love the idea of the creature, woooow. nice crafting.

42. impressive , and very cute , did you plan to sell it ?

43. I m absolutely, head-over-heels in love with that foot. I love the claws and structure of it. Can't wait to see how the other one turns out.

I'm starting to think I should completely give up on 'company' dolls, and just stalk this forum and buy from DoA artists as their work becomes available, because I've been seeing more and more things that I like here, and while I've seen some new commercial molds that I liked as well, the have been far fewer of them.

I, too, would be interested in price range/skin tone option information, when it becomes available. Beautiful work!

44. Waaa so many comments! X3 I am so sorry for not replying sooner, so busy with school and spring break! As a trend I would like to say thank you, I’m glad you all like her feet! :D She is still in progess and the final may look a but different but I’m trying!

Hummm, to answer some of your questions! : ^_^

*waves* LOL yes! My teacher even approved it for the final project! He said he’s help me best he can. To stay with the project I’ll need to make a head for the body that has the likeness of my own face in it, LOL that should be fun. I’m going to animal-itize myself a but, who knows, make it will look good enough to ell a few! X33 *my face on a doll in the homes of others, oh my!* I’m excited, he really knows his stuff when it comes to mold making!

I promise I shall post more when I do more on her and have something nice to show! ^^

Oh poor Baron! ;_; I hope he is fixed all okay, I was so sad to hear of what happened! Oh yes, please do order one! :D I hope to sell at least 5!

I could do that indeed! I’ll sell some bodies, some heads, and some full dolls. I’m doing a very small run obviously…(all being done by little ole me… XD and the molds only last for 50-some castings, 100 at the absolute MAX if you take really good care of them…)

I have not tested her standing on them yet but I plan that she will! ^_^ They have a broad base and should be more stable than typical doll feet (more surface area).

Np problem! It will be nice to have an anthro doll that is a little more durable (Nixie is OOAK art piece and too delicate to drag around to lots of doll meets and stuff *huggles her* she will always be my girl even if she breaks or whatever, she was my first!).

I will do a boy torso if all goes well and I can cast/sell some of the girl! (It would sue the same legs I think) but for now just the female torso. ^^ I personally feel girls are underrepresented in BJD (I myself am a girl doll person) so I’m giving out to the girl doll love a bit. :)

X33 wow thanks! That’s very flattering! Have fun raising up that $700 O_O ! X33

45. To answer some questions about pricing :

I have a vague idea about price right now… (I’ll work that out concretely as I see how much materials are / labor). I’m guessing bodies would be 400-ish and heads 80-ish (That’s average price for 60cm doll bodies / heads, and seems fair to me considering the price of resin, silicone, and labor…and I am doing it pretty much all myself X3 ) I want to make my own eyes and have them come with the heads, but otherwise they would come naked and strung.

I could do faceups for an additional 18 and body detailing for 30, done to order of course. I also want to do some one-offs with detailed stuff and whatnot. :D

Prices are all subject to change, but don’t expect the prices to go any higher than you’d expect to pay for similar sized dolls at Luts or anything. X3 But yea, there are the estimates.

46. Oh man, she's absolutely gorgeous. The feet are amazing beyond all words...I've spent the last several minutes staring at them and dragged everyone in the apartment over to look. They all agree that she's fabulous.

And I think I've said the same thing over and over again with slightly different wording. *laugh*

47. Please, please, please tell me you'll do the tiger head. OMG. I don't need a tiger head, but now...consider me saving up for one!

I like to draw dragon feet the way you made her feet, so naturally I love that to death! The only thing that kinda throws me off is that she seems to be all leg...beautiful leg, but all leg none-the-less. XD Is she really only 60cm? She looks taller. *_*

48. Oh wow she is fantastic. If youe did a tiger head i think i would have to get one (the body alone temps me)

49. I did have plans to do the tiger! ^^ Cause I wanted to cast the body in a white kind of color (lends itself to white kitsune and white tigers ;) And easy to add some light color / black stripes on, I'm also going to play with casting colored pieces later, I'll have to see. X33 )

I have not really measured her actully *laugh* X3 My sketch was around 60-cm, she may be taller now. Most of it comes from that extended animal ankle, her legs relly don't look so long in person, also the angle I took the full leg/body shot makes them look really long X33. I may re-do her legs completly (not the foot, just the legs) They are not shapely enough I think X33. I can do better! :)

50. awesome work! >w< your dolls are very original~ I love the make-up idea, is like a japanesse mask * w *

51. I am a sucker for animals with big paws. And that paw is amazing.

52. Well, tell me when you do mold her, and I will snatch one up fast ^^

53. *is harassed over to this thread by Key* WOW, hon. The clay sculpt looks amazing! (But then, we can expect excellence from you always!)

Those feet, though...wow. I really am looking forward to seeing the completed doll!

(BTW, you're totally and completely free to take any of those photos of Baron you've seen, for your own website and stuff.)

54. OMGosh, this is going to sound funny, but, I ADORE the feet!! They look SO awesome!!! I can't wait to see it all cast and everything!! ^_^!!!

55. WOW how amazing! That paw is incredible! I'm in awe of your amazing sculpting skills :daisy

56. great job ^^

57. Very lovely, again the feet are amazing @_@ they remind me o-o quite fondly of Final Fantasy Nine's Freya Crescent o_o ( Its a good thing imho) <3. If you do cast I hope so much that I have money for one <3 Your sculpt is amazingly unique~!

58. WOw wow wow wow! I love her face so much and her feet! :drool

What kind of tail will be used? A sculpted one or a fur one?

59. Wow, very cool. And surprisingly like the doll I'm working on now - very feminine body, claw feet in a similar style, and a tail, though mine will have a more humanoid face (and smaller). Totally awesome though - and great inspiration for my own project. I'd love to see more pics.

60. Wow, if you do make a cast and take orders, I will SO be ordering one!!! That's JUST the kind of doll I've been looking for!!!!!
