Unoa Rowan Discussion

Jan 17, 2018

    1. That's too bad--but makes perfect sense too. I guess announcing a parts order before the fullsets sell doesn't make a ton of sense!

I hope these girls sell well--and I have a feeling they will. In the meantime, maybe I need to look into a Buff Unon headback in case someone's decadent Metia plate needs a new home.

    2. I really love the soft body of Rowan I love her thick legs its very attractive and refreshing

I think I maybe entering the lottery I like that fresh skin is paler than normal skin but I wish it was fairy white skin so Im not sure 100%

I sent an email to the distrubotor, also is it Unoa like Uno Alchemy? or is it Unoa Alchemy?

It was easy to find what the decadent looks like because I searched for the 1.5 pictures since I read it is basically enlarged 1.5 but does anyone have pictures of Unoa Zero hands that can be purchased as optional parts? I tried google but it is surprisingly not there or I couldn't find it easily

Still I love this body very much its very nice to see thick legs but on a realistic body and style :truffle:chocoheart:chocoberry:cake:

    3. It's UnoAlchemy all together - just a portmanteau of Unoa and Alchemy!

I think we have the most pictures available on Facebook and Tumblr. If you join the Unoa Freaks group on facebook, you can see pics of all the optional hands. We don't have all that many though, so we didn't want to advertise them too much.

    4. Question: Did you do the makeup for the PRIM that you mentioned here? I don't see it? would love to see what she looks like with a owners makeup.

    5. Sure! I've changed it a bit since, and I really want a dark brown wig for her, but here she is. I have a hard time choosing between the two sculpts. I really like them both.

    6. I ended up having to repaint my Metia because her faceup chipped, so here's yet another example of what she looks like ( I think I am subtly preferring Metia, but Prim has been most popular by far).

    7. I think Prim looks a younger maybe that's why.. Lusis was more popular than sist I think.

    8. 4 more days >.<

Im on pins and needles waiting for results lol

I liked Prim initially, but Im leaning towards Metia now

      She has really beautiful hands

    9. The finger nails definitely want to be painted ! I can picture a French manicure.

    14. I just got the lottery results and I won the right to adopt one :shudder:celebrate

Very excited but this will be the last doll for this year too much shopping :doh

Who else here got their confirmation? I hope everyone who wanted her gets to have the chance

I hope I get the invoice soon Ill be traveling on thursday night and Im worried about being locked out of paypal because Im abroad when I log in to pay >.<

    15. @GreenTeaSlug

I got my confirmation email and I won the right to purchase too!
I've never gotten an Unoa before (I'm still pretty new to the hobby) but I just adore the Rowan body! :D

    16. Another lotto winner here! I'm pretty passionate about painting unoas so this is super exciting.

    17. Me too, very happy i’m able to adopt one <3

    18. I got one too! I'm getting a Prim with all optional hands. <3

    19. I won my Metia (with decadent prim) and all the hands~

So excited to stick her between my unoss and zero~

    20. Another winner here, with some parts and options. I will reveal all when she arrives, wooo-hooo! She's so stinking cute I can't even stand it! Maybe one day Mr. Araki will offer a painted Prim faceplate, I can dream right? :aangel:

    21. A question about the Rowan's resin color.
I read that the fresh skin is the new normal for Unoa? Is it different from the old fresh skin at all?

Lyntea posted this comparison image back in 2014 and I'm curious if its still fairly similar to the fresh skin now
      [IMG]

    22. There is no “old” fresh skin. The color has been the same since about 2010. We call the color before that old normal skin. It’s light with a pink tone. The old skin is a bit more yellow.

It matches unoa zero resin very well and is the same as all dolls produced since 2010. The casting studio has a formula to keep it pretty consistent.

    23. Thank you so much for clearing that up! Researching the resin was a bit confusing but I understand much better now :)

    24. I just got my shipping notice so others who are also waiting should be getting them too :D I really want to see how you customize them

I am surprised that is fast, I expected a 3-4 month wait for them to be ready to be shipped. Im so grateful its not a year+ wait for these beauties haha

Im relieved fresh skin is pale colored, I like the white dolls over normal because blushing looks nicer and Im not tied up to warm or cold flesh tones for a blank canvas so it is more easy for me

    25. I think they originally said 6-12 weeks or 6-8 weeks for them to ship.
The color seems a good compromise between normal and white so the doll can still look a bit healthy.
Very cool they are shipping already I got my notice also!

GreenTeaSlug which girl did you order?

    26. Looking forward to seeing how folks customize these girls!:D I've still got my eye on Prim, but I'm such a sucker for Fairy Skin that I won't have her in any other resin color.:sweat

    27. Yay for shipping notices! I think I'll get my doll next week, I need to pay customs fees for her so it'll add some days to the waiting time. I still don't have clear plans for my Prim :'D I was thinking of a two- or three-colored tibetan mohair wig but that's pretty much everything I've decided - and I'm not even sure of the colors yet.

    28. Ooh love the legs so cute! that blue cat pinafore is cute too! skin color looks good also.

    29. How easy was she to put together was the elastic cut the right length already?

    30. Aaaaaaaa I'm getting my girl tomorrow! I was supposed to make some patterns for her today but I wasn't able to concentrate on them. So excited for tomorrow!

    31. @TreeLore at first I wanted her with extra faceplates to modify one to turn into my french bulldog, like that movie Penelope with Christina Ricci but then when I saw her face she is too pretty to be turned into that farting shoe thief baby :XD: Shes a Prim, but seeing the faces I think she will change to Metia decadent, its my favorite look, very moody!

@Uninu I hope customs gives her a pass and not add a charge for you

@DollInk I like that outfit choice, with legs like that she should show it off all the time

I have my new guest in a dollfie dream sis outfit, I posted the box opening in the gallery if there is interest
      /threads/unoa-rowan-arrival.773912/
      [IMG]

She is very beautiful and detailed I think people will love her

For me she needs some work on the neck to help her tilt left and right better, some sueding and maybe sanding to give the skin less shine and more velvet feel and also less shine. I am excited to start working on her and then the blushing, the hands and feet are very beautiful

There is nothing about her that feels Grade B so Ill just pretend that Grade B means Grade Babe

      • x 3
    32. Thank you, @GreenTeaSlug ! I paid her customs fees on Thursday. Had I paid before 12AM I would have gotten her on Friday. XD
I'm loving that outfit on your doll! Also Grade Babe sounds perfect fit for her.

      • x 1
    33. As the person taking orders said they are all marked B grade (all orders taken by the company these days) it's not that they are inferior. Pity they continued to use that term for these girls. At this price I certainly don't expect anything inferior!

Any shiny should go when she is sprayed with the UV cut protective spray or similar matt or semi matt I would think? not sure she would need to be sanded... ?

QUESTION: she came strung!? that is great if so - just looked at your box opening.

LOL the toe nails! I can see them interfering with shoe fit.

    34. @TreeLore Strung and with a wig on too! :kitty1

That makes sense! Ill use my matte liquitex and airbrush, Ill save the MSC for faceups since it took 8 months to arrive to me and I cant really find a close vendor or suitable alternative other than matte varnish lol. I got the idea of sanding from the Unoa Freak books, but i guess that was something I mistranslated. I originally wanted the Unoss but she is just as good and I loved her after the comparison shots posted earlier

The toenails will definitely be sanded off, I was careful slipping on her socks, Im worried it might rip her clothes since it is pretty sharp. She doesnt fit any of the shoes I have except the unoa slips I got with her, so Ill customize that lol

    35. I had Unoss at one time, she had really large hands and big feet. The only shoes she fit was SD13 boys shoes. The hands on Rowans look smaller thankfully! they seem more in proportion. Unoss was manufactured by Volks and so the resin was volks resin which was a real plus. Unoss also had long toe nails but these look even longer...

    36. Question: GreenTeaSlug - I see your girl is standing how did you find her upper legs? Mine are very loose! she can't stand, she can fall back and forward while standing hohoho. From what I see her legs are just tied to each other rather than strung up the body which would provide good tension.

I wonder what I can do about that.... she can sit ok using the back leg lock notch but if it's not in she would just fall back as there is no tension in the legs. I have two of the doll both are the same.

Anyone else have this issue? she does look very sweet just sitting but it would be nice to have her stand... urgh..
MINDA any thoughts? I can't imagine it would be easy to untied the stringing and then somehow tie it tight enough to make a difference. Tighter than the people stringing her did. Is there such a thing as stable tight legs with this girl? or is it not possible and all are loose?

    37. I've been having the same issue (my girl arrived yesterday)
I've tightened the stringing in her legs quite a bit and they're still pretty floppy but they are noticeably more stable but not as stable as other dolls I've played with (but this is my first SD size doll, so all my comparisons are to MSDs). I'm still pretty new to BJDs but I get the feeling that the way her legs are strung (only through the pelvis and not the torso) is the mainly reason behind the stability issues.
I'm thinking of doing some hot glue sueding so see if that helps, but I'm not sure how soon I can get around to doing that.

      • x 1
    38. Well SD's should be no different from MSDs. Volks doesn't have this issue at all for example.

I have a unoa mini size and she stands fine despite having quite loose stringing overall. These legs don't seem to have anything to stop the doll from floating back and forth. It seems as if the design is too loose between where the top of the leg and the pelvis is also. Hard to describe. I don't think I have ever had a SD with stringing just from leg directly to other leg and I think that is the issue.
I wonder if hot glue would even touch the problem though.... I don't think so but you could try it and let me know!
*** I wonder if there is a way to string her not leg to leg... urgh... I never restring dolls so can't imagine how that would go! You would think they would have strung her up differently if it was possible?..

Maybe unoa zero people have talked about this issue also and found a solution. Anyone here with a unoa zero? maybe they are strung leg to leg also?

    39. Yes, they use the same leg stringing as the Zero. For me, the Rowan is very solid, but your mileage may vary. You can improve things by wiring the upper legs with pipe cleaners.

    40. My girl arrived VERY loose too, she'll deff. need to be tightened up, but i think its a saftey thing. Cuz theres higher chance of breakage when shipped tightly strung.

Ive restrung my zero and elder sister a few times, and I haven't looked at rowans stringing, but you should be able to switch how its done. But I always do a long piece from feet to head. and then a smaller piece for arms.

You should be able to change rowan to that type? Would just need a new longer piece of string i would assume.

    41. It's not possible to change Rowan's stringing type, she has the same system that Zero has and thus has three strings and there is no string tunnel through the hip piece. Sueding helps a ton, I sueded my Rowan with pliver and it worked wonders.

I am over the moon with my girl, I'm trying to get some pictures of her soon. I don't have my big camera at the moment, but I'll take some with my phone.

      • x 1
    42. It sounds like your saying your zero did have a hole through to the upper body? as you were able to restring all the way through to the body. While Rowan doesn't only through to the other leg.

Uninu: I love my girls also they are very cute. Just the legs at the moment, impossible to make her stand I wouldn't even try it with her leaning against the wall. I will have to order some pliver, did you buy yours online? I never had to suede a doll before but I guess if that is what it takes! what glue did you use? can you use the white glue like elmers?

    43. So your girls legs are solid and she can stand and has nothing other than tight elastic is that correct? and her string is the same as our through one leg and then the other? can you confirm?

    44. Oh i guess i forgot lol, it was a few years since i restrung a Zero, And i knew my Unoss was like that though, but forgot Zero was like that too.

      That's a shame.

But, Yeah would just need a tighter elastic, and some sueding should do it, cuz thats how i got my Unoss's legs to be less flimsy

      • x 1
    45. For me the arms is nice and solid, but the legs are very floppy. I dont think it is the stringing, because her resin is very smooth, for me it is too smooth and that is why I think it is not gripping like for example my volks SDgrG girl who feels like her resin is velvet coated

I didnt unstring her or modify her. I also didnt add suede because I did not want to add bulk (I put it on my LLT doll and the knees felt like it was stressed, so I removed because I was worried ti would break it

I made hot glue and what a difference! Its what kept her standing in some of my photos. Before that I had to keep holding because she will flop like she is looking for her dropped earring. I used the cold hot glue gun setting and I also used the mod podge finger caps to smooth it and make it thin. I put it in the hip, the knee and the ankle. I feel the other parts didnt need it

    46. Yes the arms are nice :-)
Oh ok, maybe time for me to order a hot glue gun or the pleather. Sounds like Minda is the only one that has a doll that doesn't require anything.

    47. What size eyes have you found work? most of my 16mm don't fit the socket right as the hole in the back of the eye is too small so the edges of the eye can't sit in that socket. My 14mm fit ok but are slightly small maybe. Anyone found a 16mm high quality eye that fits nice and what brand is it? thanks :-) PICS would be great too if you feel like it.

    48. Size-wise I liked 16mm Enchanted Doll urethanes on Rowan, Oscardoll 16mm fit well too. I did end up putting these 14mm glass eyes on her, I have no idea of the maker.

    49. Yup. I have the same Rowans as everyone else. Alchemic Labo does ship them especially loose on purpose though. It's to prevent stress to the resin during shipping. My doll stands just fine (though not as well in her heels), but I don't do much with mine except display them prettily on stands.

    50. Here is my Metia :cake:. I ordered some 16mm Enchanted eyes in a blue tone. I really love Metia face she reminds me greatly of Unoa Sist. Course she needs a faceup.

    51. Here is my girl Primetia, dressed and standing solo just fine in her low mules. It was less than 30 seconds to balance her but I have always kept my Lusis loose so I guess there is sometimes a knack for standing them up? I don't leave my dolls standing unassisted other than long enough for a very quick snapshot though! :)

    52. I love seeing all the girls in this thread :D there are so few of these beauties out in the world yet, I think less than 20..

We haven’t announced anything officially yet but we’ll have tan girls available from september, and I’m lucky enough to have one already!! Ugh everything unoa looks amazing in tan skin, and the Rowans are no exception :nosebleed

    55. I am buying TreeLore's gorgeous Rowan with Latea and Prim faceplate on layaway at the moment! So excited!!!! Please spam me with pics of your lovely Rowans everyone! I had a Unoa Zero back in the day but didn't like her thigh and bust proportions as much. But Rowan is perfect for me... SD sized AND those gorgeous Unoa legs!!!!

    56. TreeLore shipped my Rowan - Reira - lightening fast, but I hadn't gotten a chance to take many pictures until just now! I gave her a faceup last week!

[IMG]Reira by The Hipster Alchemist, on Flickr

      I love her legs!

For those wondering about pants, these are Tree Design shorts. I don't think she would be able to wear full jeans unless the material was different/stretchier for the legs, and as it is, the shorts don't enable her to sit very well. The shoes are SD13 sneakers I think. They were much too big on my Feeple 60 girl. I also found that I had an old pair of Volks lolita shoes that (barely) fit her feet. I sanded her toenails down but it doesn't help fitting a ton. I think I'm going to sand her heels down a bit as well, so that I can fit her into more shoes. She fits SD13 clothing a little better than my Feeple60 moe girl due to her smaller bust. Interestingly, her arms are a tiny bit bigger than Volks or Fairyland girls. Her eyes are 14mm Enchanted Doll eyes, and I've had 16mm eyes in her before that fit a teeny bit better.

    57. She's looking so cute!! love the wig type you selected and the casual clothing :-) your faceup came out so lovely too, fresh and natural.
