Unoa hybrids? Other bodies that work with Unoa face plates (part 1)

I'm also curious about this. But I think the p-natural would be a better match, Guls. I've seen people who also tried the y-natural but it's way too yellow for a Unoa.
No Soulkid body pics/reviews? I'd like to know more about its poseability too. :/

I like it for being taller than a Unoa Lusis/Sist body, but It's also slimmer so I'm not sure if I can still think of it as an option. It's cute though, maybe could be a good body for my Sist character.

 

Thanks for the resin match info! Since I'll have a girl and a boy hybrid (in addition to my girl and boy Unoas...not I'm not getting carried away! ) I wanted to get a girl and boy body that will still go well with the original Unoas. So far, it's either the MNF/c-line option or the AOD option (I love the boy bodies in these 2/3 lines!). I know the Lati blue boy /Unoa hybrid is possible...it just looks a little odd to me since their boys are huge! The neck is also a bit too thick (again this info applies to the boys, I have no idea how the girl bodies would work out).

 

I've actually had an AOD Y-Normal, P-Normal and white skinned but could only find the pictures for the white. White and P-Normal were the best match as the Yellow was way too yellow. The body posed decently but it didn't pose as naturally as a Minifee Actice line or many others. Also, the AOD is taller. Back when I put my hybrids together, AOD was the cheapest option and for the price I paid, I was extremely happy with the overall look.

 

Thank you! Lol when I first started collecting, I had no idea how important pose-ability would be to me! I'll keep the AOD in mind for a cheaper option, but I may lean closer to the MNF/c-line hybrid in that case! Gah! Now I really can't wait to get my c-line girl home!

You know what worries me most at this moment? My Lusis faceplate has yellowed quite a bit. So even if the Kid Delf/Unoa torso-hands combo would work... would it still be a good match with my faceplate? Can yellowed resin be made lighter again by blushing? Or would it be a better idea to get an AOD Yellow body after all?

Raaaah! I really, really love this age of internet shopping, but when it comes to things like this... how I would love to go to an actual store with my faceplate in hand!!

Maybe I'll just wait a bit. See what my Sist looks like after she has returned from her face-up. Wait for other resin comparisons. Be patient for a bit. After all, there's no one who says I should get my Lusis done right now!

Do we know anything about recent colour matches? I read something about their 'yellow natural' colour... is that a good match? (keeping my yellowed Lusis faceplate in mind)

By the way, I can't see a buying option on their site... can Dollzone dolls only be bought through dealers?

Also: do we know anything about Nabi Kiss / Nabiya bodies? They were too pink in tone in 2008, it says earlier on in the thread, but they sure do look nice!

I'm also spending part of my day looking for bodies for a faceplate that didn't even arrive yet. Guess I'm only not worse because I know I won't have money to buy a body so soon.

I don't like Kid delf body at all. It reminds me of DoC girl body.
Still no reviews of Soulkid or Lati Blue bodies. I'm taking a peek at other threads around. Those are still being my favorites even though Soulkid neck still bothers me. :/


Sooo... what about Dollstown? I know nothing about this company except for the fact that they have gorgeous dolls and a cute girl body.

EDIT 2: Ok. I removed Soulkid body from my option list. But Limwha body is another pretty interesting choice.

 

Meike, the dollzone parts I've seen were very similar in color to AOD but it's been awhile since I've seen them. If your faceplate has yellowed, it would be really hard to help because things yellow differently depending on the light source, heat and time they've been exposed If you got some fine grade sandpaper, you might be able to "lightly" sand the face and restore the natural skin tone (At least this is my own experience but don't take my word)

Is Nabi casted by the Bobobbie company? I seem to remember they are. If so, the normal resin would be a bit pinker but not too bad. But with your faceplate being yellowed, I'm just not sure. You can always blush your faceplate a little to help it match a body. It's pretty simple to do.

I've definately seen Lati and Soulkid Hybrids and they worked decently (Aren't they in this thread?) Limwha is a very delicate and beautiful body! I think it would make a nice hybrid but I'm not sure about the resin match. Years ago they were made with French Resin and it yellowed pretty easily but the newer one might work really nice! I remember doing a faceup on a Urethane Limwha but cannot remember the tone of the resin

 

I have an unoa/souldoll WS hybrid that works sort of ok. The head is noticeable darker than the body, but some blushing would probably make the difference invisible.

These pictures are taken under the summer sun, but I have pictures further back in the thread that shows the complete difference.

I had a full unoa, so I kept the headback and sold only the body. Cheating, I know :P but I have made a headback for my chibi unoa out of paperclay, which was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

No, the soulkid body is unmodified, except for the hands that I later swapped with white skin fairyland hands (they are the ones in the picture, the skin tones match almost perfectly).

 

Fairyland hands are really beautiful and ellegant so it's good to knew they are a nice fit. The neck looks really perfect!

I'm probably going to hit up my craft store tomorrow and get some supplies to try and make a headback. I have hopes to make a few hybrids and if I could actually make a headback, it would be pretty economical to make them.

feather - oh wow, the neck looks perfect! I may have to find a souldoll comparison white vs normal now.. just a quick question, can she look down or glare up at you? Its an important pose to me lol I need the body to be able to do so ^_^;; strange request i know!

Paperclay? Really? Damn, I went to a local store looking for cold porcelain or epoxy but they only had paperclay... If I knew it by that time.

When I see Unoa/soulkid hybrids images I think they look gorgeous, but the proportions won't be exactly what I need to pose together with my unoa/MNF. Well, at least that's what I noticed on those comparison pics I linked above.

Limwha and Lati now. Lati blue is cute, I'm gonna look for some comparison pics between Lati blue body and MNF body. Same for Limwha.

EDIT: Ok, the possibility of using FL hands on a Soulkid body just made me consider getting one for my Sist again.

 

Arisha, the comparison photos you posted earlier are for very old body styles I'm pretty sure.

I'm wondering about the paperclay option too. I wonder how hard it cures and if we need to add sculpty or something to make the neck stronger. I believe that is what the photos that Moonycat posted represent but since I cannot read the languge, I'm not 100% sure. I don't know anything about paperclay but the name doesn't sound strong enough to support an s-hook If anyone knows for sure, I'd love some feedback.

 

lisadragon: I'll take some pictures of her head range tomorrow. It's not as good as the usual unoa body, because of the lack of tap to keep the head in position, but hot glue sueding it did wonders.

Arisha/*Meee*: the trick is to make the part that goes against the neck really thick and make sure the string isn't too tight. The paper clay cures hard, but probably isn't much stronger than paper maché in the long run, with the same weaknesses. I made the headback as a temporary one, and while I haven't had any trouble with my chibi, it is on a tiny, so the string isn't as thick and the tention is less than on a mini body. Polymer clays is guaranteed to be better than paper clay over time, but I had some paper clay and thought I'd might as well give it a shot. I'll probably remake it in polymer clay one day, but for some reason I just never do :P

I know people make ceramics from paperclay, I believe it is easier to mold and lighter than other materials, also I think it can be baked. Some people add cold porcelain to paperclay too (but then what's the point of using paperclay anyway?).

Wow. Just as I was getting ready to order my Kid Delf/Unoa parts hybrid, I went to take a look at the Limhwa body. Talking about beautiful... it is STUNNING!!! I want! I've just fired off a FM to the lady on Flickr, asking about attaching the Unoa faceplate & headback and possible modifications needed.

ETA: Just got her reply: if you use the Unoa (or a homemade) headback with your Unoa faceplate, no modfications are needed. Now all I need to be a bit more sure of is the resin colour!

 

From her measurements we already know Limwha Leda shares clothes with Unoa and MNF bodies, what's great. I just want to see some owner pics to be sure it won't look out of place when sided by a MNF hybrid. The body itself is exactly what I'm looking for.

The girl on Flickr has her on a white Limhwa body, I have just found out, with a heavily blushed faceplate. I've also asked another girl on Flickr for pictures of her Limhwa boy doll and Unoa girl. The plot thickens!

Haven´t you thought about the Asleep Eidolon bodies?, there are 3 versions of mini girl bodies from that company, and I think the actual NS could match fine with the Unoa resin. I´ve a some AE girls and the color of my newest girl is pretty pale, very close to my Sist faceplate, I´ll check them later and can show you a comparison, if you like.

I sent a PM to the owner of that Unoa/Limwha hybrid, she kindly answered that Limwha body is very similar to MNF. Sadly, they don't sell only the body.

Personally, I thought the old AE slim body was perhaps a little TOO slim for Unoa! But the colour of the particular body I had was very good.

Well... I'd never have thought it would ever happen, but I have bitten the bullet. I just bought the Asleep Eidolon double jointed 1/4 girl body that Mint on Card had in stock.

*Fingers crossed* it'll get here soon - and that it'll work as a hybrid body!

Here is a comparison pic, I´m sorry for the very bad lighting, today is kinda cloudy here where I live and my house is pretty dark, so, I had to take the photo using artificial light.
Anyway, I can say that AE´s newest resin is really close to my Unoa FP, just a -very- little pinker, but barely noticeable in real life. It can be noticed mostly in photos, but in natural light isn´t noticeable at all.
The older AE NS resin is a slighty darker/pinker that the new one, by other side, I must say, the Unoa FP makes a perfect match with my Lati Blue body in NS, from january of this year:

I'm more inclined to choose Lati or AE. Souldoll is my third option, and Aria... well, not being able to buy the body separately is enough to make me give up.

Personally I love the sculpt of Lati´s Blue girls, the body is so delicate, detailed and beautiful, but the posability is very basic/limited compared to other dolls. It stands very easily and is very stable, but it may be a bit rigid for certain poses. The Unoa looks quite excellent in that body, both in proportions and color (at least with mine).

Just wanted to let you know that I have received my Amaeta headback, and it is perfect! Very happy with it. Highly recommended!

 

Meike - Is that head back specifically for minifee hybridization? 8D Coz I can't see where you could hook the S-hook on >.<

No, it's for regular MSD bodies. If you have a Minifee body, you'll have to remove the MNF neck adaper first and get a bigger S-hook. The S-hook goes through the neck and then needs to be twisted as usual. There are little grooves inside the headback to keep it in its place; I'll see if I can take a picture for you.

ETA: picture! Not the best in the world, but you get the idea I think.

Although it will most probably have to spend some time in Customs (and get a big fat bill attached), and hm, the snow we're having isn't really helping much either! *fingers crossed*!

Ok, that's it. I was kinda between Lati Blue and Soulkid body. I love Lati's long legged body but, from what Aquarina said and the comparison pics I saw, its poseability is quite disappointing.

But these long legs...

Ahem, so... I'm getting a Soulkid body. I don't like its boobs, but that's a minor problem when compared to Latis poseability (even though I'm thinking of getting a Lati later... long leeeegs ).

 

Lol, yes, Lati Blues are kilometric LEGS , and although they aren´t super poseable, the body is sooooo pretty and just in this case I think I can sacrifice poseability for beauty.
