Unoa hybrids? Other bodies that work with Unoa face plates (part 1)

I have a Unoa faceplate on the way, and I'm considered getting a non-Unoa body for her, and sculpting a head back based on mine and my boyfriend's B-el.

My issue with Unoa bodies is that while the posing is very good, I don't like the look of the resin as much as I do my other dolls @_@ plus, Unoa bodies are more difficult to find.

I've heard of a Unoa head on a MNF body, I'm wondering if the head would fit on, and be in proportion too, a Narae body, because a Unoa in french resin would be gorgeous I think. For the MNF body, I looked on Luts wbesite and I thought they sold them separately but I couldn't find the link for some reason.

 

Sorry I cannot help but I am posting here because I, too, have often had this thought. I really prefer the resin from the 1.0 than 1.5.
I hope someone who has done this answers

I don't think faceplates on a Narae body would work, there was a thread somewhere saying they don't fit. That's why I wondered about a whole Unoa head on a Narae body Probably the best thing for me to do is get a Narae from Dollfair like I was planning anyway, and swap the B-el head onto the body to see how it would look. Boy Unoa faceplates and the same size as the girl ones I think, so their heads msut be the same circumference as well. I just wondered if someone had done it before me...because if it works, I can advertise for a body/head split in the marketplace (i.e someone else but whatever head they want with is), or sell the Narae head later.

Ive just done her ...so didnt want to say anything untill I had finished her
to see if it would work
I made a back head from apoxy resin, then fit my sleeping elf ,Unoa face-plate onto it ,
at the momment she is on a Dollzone girls body
its not bad ...size wise , neck is slightly too long , colour match isnt good, the dz is too pink ,
IF I had the money I would have her on a Narea body as I prefere it
or a DIM
I did get face-plate on the narea head ,
there is a gap of about 2mm ...its not a perfect fit , but it stopped on
it could be fixed on ...apoxy or PVA .., but not good if you want to change eyes

I think I would prefere her on an old serendipity body , something with a yellower tone
the dz is too pink ,I think Luts would be too
I have plans for my Isil , she needs a better body
Im so pleased the head worked

 

as far as I know you cant buy the Narea body separately , I recently asked
the Narea I have is white but has yellowed , but its a perfect colour for the old Sleeping plate I have
she is an older resin and it is slightly yellow , the new Unoa is pinker .
thats why Im thinking of the old Serendipity body
I think the pink white may do for the new 1.5 ...but have never seen it in person

I found it easier to sculpt the head with the face-plate
...and I hadnt posted my Unoa to her new owner , so could use the head for reference

I made the head -back out of Plasticine , then pushed the faceplate on it for fit
when I got the right size , I used a scalpel and cut away about 3 mm of Plasticine
, I then mixed up apoxy resin and covered the Plasticine
pushed the faceplate on again to get the right fit
..when it fit nice , I removed it
I left it 24hrs to set
scraped out the Plasticine , then did another layer of apoxy inside to strengthen the head ...especially the neck area
again I left it 24hrs to set , and made the inside of the neck ridge , so the head would then attach to the body

the head isnt a good colour ...but thats Ok she wears one of my wigs anyhow
at least I still have my SleepingElf

 

You can actually fit a Unoa faceplate on a Limwha body. I saw a picture of that once on DOA.

 

I remember that post, you can even use the back of the head from the Limhwa, but there are some tabs sticking down in the back/under the jaw that you might wanna sand down. Also you might need tape or magnets or something to hold the faceplate on.

Also I seem to remember the Limhwa neck was a bit long.

I put the B-el faceplate next to my Sr Alice's body - the resin matches almost perfectly, and the head is in proportion as well - I think I'm going to look for a SR girl body too when i get my faceplate

 

Here is my thread with photos of Unoa faceplate on the Limhwa body, including the back of the head. It works, but the head must be taped on. The Unoa faceplate does not fit on a Narae head. Of course if you are willing and able to modify the head, you could overcome the problems.

I hope no one is horrified by what I have done to her ... it's a desperate act I know!! I got my Sist faceplate yesterday and immediately gave her a faceup but as I have no body for her (yet) I used the only spare body I had ... a LaTi green! I think she looks OK
I've taped the faceplate to a Narae head back.

how do you attach the faceplates on them?

 

I used PVA glue
it stops on quite secure , but pulls off with a little force when I want it too come off

I was inspired by this thread! I finally got up the nerve to make Unoa-hybrid.

Pelicandeb and TinyBear gave me some advice and shared their expertise. After seeing Tinybear's lovely ivy covered Isil, I bought an old Serendipity Sharmin body from a DOA member. TinyBear was right, it is a great match resin wise. The body is a more petite but quite lovely.

I made the back of the head from sculpty and modded it freehand. It works quite well and took very little time to make.

I will post a picture of my unoa-hybrid this weekend.

 

Here are a couple of photos of the headback I made for the Serendipity body. This particular body matches the Unoa resin quite well. (per Tinybear's suggestion).














It is my first attempt and I know now a I could refine it in the future. Yes, I learn from my mistakes!

The faceplate sits nicely on the head back but I added a piece of scotch tape to make sure it stays put. (There is also a snap hotglued on the top of the head to hold on the wig).

The color is way off, but the wig covers the headback. The hardest part was doing the bottom section where the head attaches to the neck of the body. The inside is pretty crude and ugly but no one sees it.

When I make a second one, I will make the headback slightly smaller, refine and smooth the shape, and use a better material then the basic Sculpty.


It is a cute little body.

 

I tried putting a Unoa faceplate on a Narae body. The resin isn't a perfect match. There is a slight difference in skin colour but that can easily be masked by a wig and clothing.
Also, you'd have to attach the faceplate withs ome ducttape.

But besides that, I think it's a pretty nice match.

 

I think Serendipity is a good match and someone had a Unoa head on a Supia body i think...

 

I think someone also had an Unoa head on a narae body - just not sure if it was a pinky-white or a biege. I know it's not the snowy-white or tan.

 

Mini fees bodies are also greats with unoas faceplates (but you have to adapt them)

they both take the same wig size and eye size, right? Lati boys take a 6-7 wig and 12mm eyes. I think it could work. but the bully face is still quite femme, and the lati boys have strong jaws and square chins and are generally more masculine.

 

Most other companies who make *MSD-sized* dolls are going to be too chunky, and the necks will be too thick, to look good with the smaller-sized Unoa heads. Only the "slender minis" (Serendipity, Narindoll, Luts MiniFee, etc.) are really going to fit well and not make the doll look pinheaded.

I have a number of different minis from various companies (DoD, AngelRegion, SSIN, MiniFee, Narae) -- I'll try to take a comparison photo at some point (not today, I'm running out the door) to give you some idea of what the neck/head size looks like in comparison to a Unoa.

I've actually started a thread in picture requests but I'd like to ask here too. Does anyone know if the Unoa 1.5 would match a dollzone resin? I really have no idea if the two are compatible but I like the dollzone girl body so am thinking of putting my Unoa head on it.

 

I can tell you, with relative certainty, that Unoa normal will match DZ normal. ^_^ Both are a match of my DM girl, and since both are just a little bit lighter than she is, then the two should match almost perfectly.

 

they matched quite will ..I did find the neck a little long for the Unoa when I tried
but nothing a little work with sand paper couldnt fix

Okay, thank you. I've heard that Dollzone might be a good match and I think they are thinner too. Anyone know if their measurements are similar to Unoa?

 

I"ll be waiting on some comparison pictures Ashbet. Right now I'm considering everything from dollzone,latiblueline, minifee, to angel of dream (and some others I've forgotten already..) as a body for my dozin' L-bi Argos.

 

Does anyone know if a Minisupia body will work for a hybrid? I LOVE that body and the breast size is perfect for a character. I don't want the character to be flat chested or have large breasts. X.x
...or even an N-doll body, just that same breast size.

I was thinking about that er..Castle Anne body too, since you don't have to get the head with it I think.

Will the necks look weird? Will the resin match decent with either 1.0 or 1.5?

 

I've ordered a headback from Kaye and a 14yr girl body from Serendipity in normal color (someone said that matched their old creamy Sharmin head so I am hoping this body will work for 1.5 Unoa as well as the old Serendipity body does).

I tried on a Unoa faceplate on my N-doll and it doesn't fit at all. If you used the whole head it might work. I wish I could remember how the resin matched. I really didn't take much notice as I wasn't thinking of using the N-doll body at the time.

Thanks for the heads up I was planning on ordering a headback from Kaye before I went along with the plan, I'm just curious about the length/width of the neck and if the resin is waaay off or not. A slight change say...a 1.5 face on a 1.0 body doesn't bother me, but I want to keep it as natural as I can.

 

It looks like there are a lot of possiblities for Unoa hybrids. Someone mentioned that DZ normal skin is a good match. Another body suggested is Dollmore. Skin tone is one area to be concerned with--but another is body size and form.

I have a SR (Serendipity) old body. It is an almost perfect match for Unoa. But--it is much more petite. The waist, breast, and hips are smaller. She is shorter then Unoa. *(please note she is wearing Unoa pointing hands).

In the middle is a DM (Dollmore) Momo. In the following picture notice that he is larger then the SR body. His torso is also bigger then the standard Unoa body, and I think he is taller.

The bjd on the left is a DZ (Dollzone) body, white skin doesn't match Unoa, and he is quite tall in the mini world. I believe the girl DZ bodies are 1 cm shorter.
I should have place a regular Unoa next to the Dollmore for comparisons. I think she falls between the DM and the SR hybrid.



I will try and find some time to strip toff their clothes and take a pic so people can see the body comparison more clearly. Hope this helps!

 

Thank you Chops. This does help. I love the old serendipity body. They are just so hard to fine though. I can't wait for Carolyn to get her new serendipity body to see how that matches. I'm not really ready to buy a body yet anyway, so I'm not in a hurry, but I'd love to know what my possiblilities are.

 

okay, note my post on page 2 about me making a Bluefairy-Unoa hyrbid. EPIC FAIL. the resin match was terrible. unless you can get your hands on a rose-white body, don't try this with Bluefairy. having that said, I'm going to make a B-El hybrid to keep me company during this long preorder wait.

my only concern at this point is, due to my past experience, how closely does Dollmore resin match Unoa 1.5 resin? their price is perfect and the size is as well. (and OMG so many optional hands~)

 

My Dollmore Momo boys body is an excellent match to Unoa body tone. The DM body is about 2 years old, and I believe he is normal skin.

 

I really like this idea...do you think the 1.0 or 1.5 head would fit on Orient doll, too? I'm not familiar with Unoa at all, aside from wanting one desperately!!!

 

I think a 1.0 or 1.5 head would look a bit too big on an Orientdoll body. Tinybear has a photo of 1.0 or 1.5 on the Flexi fashion body and I think people thought the smaller Unoa 2.0 head looked best on it.

Yes, I took a look at the measurements of OD and she probably would be too skinny. Unless you wanted a "lollipop head"!

I've read the whole thread and I just can't seem to find a really good match. I really like curvier more mature bodies....

 

I went to the Unoa/Dollmore hybrid link above, and I don't see it stated whether the head is 1.0 or 1.5 so we don't know which head matches Dollmore.

I believe 1.5 heads match the original Serendipity Sharmin and Alice bodies which had a creamy tone.

I am hoping 1.5 heads match the normal skin 14yr Serenipity mini girl body (because someone elsewhere on DoA shows that body matching and fitting their original creamy Sharmin head).

I don't know why so many people show hybrids without stating the skin color of the body and the version of the head.

I am not positive, but I think the boy heads may all be 1.5.

Unoa ..looks way weird on the Flexi Fashion body ...Orientdoll is very similar too it so I would have to go with a no

but I dont think the colour difference is so dramatic ...my Unoa1 has a1.5 faceplate ..by the time they have been painted ...the match isnt that different

So now I am confused - I am worried the Serendipity normal skin body I ordered won't match the 1.5 head.

One thing that is confusing is there were at least 2 (maybe 3 colors) of old Serendipity bodies. The original was very creamy (some say yellow), and I think some later special Sharmins/Alices had a whiteskin body, and then there may have been some specials or even regular models with a pinker/lighter normal skin that the original Sharmin and Alice. So even if someone with a Unoa/Serendipity hybrid lists the version of the head, you can't tell what "old Serendipity body" means.

I have also noted that what some people feel is a good match other people do not. I also think that depending on the batch, the resin color could vary slightly even within the same company. For example, I have a Volks pureskin that I bought hands (which are also the pureskin) and the resin of the hands are noticably lighter than my dolls resin. Both Volks, both pureskin, but obviously different batches of resin. Or it could be that my doll may have yellowed a bit where as the hands were brand new.

So, that being said, lets hope that your body matches well enough to suit your taste Carolyn. And yes, it is annoying when people don't state whether their heads are version 1.0 or 1.5.

 

I have both versions of Unoa bodies --1.0, and 1.5, and I have both versions of the faceplates. To be quite honest, I get them completely mixed up. I have to think hard which faceplate is original to which body. I interchange them all the time!

IMHO once the bodies are blushed and the faceplates are painted there is very little difference in skin tones, probably why I have failed to mention whether the Unoa/faceplate is 1.0 or 1.5, as it is not a concern for me.

I will take pics of both of them without clothes and post asap!!!

 

chopsart - also which Serendipity body do you have? Old original Sharmin/Alice, late Sharmin/Alice (vivid etc), Sharmin-model body that Dollmore sold, or a newer body from Serendipity? And what skin tone?

I asked the person who posted the picture of the Dollmore body with Unoa head which version it was and she/he said it's a 1.5 version. She also states she has a 1.0 Unoa but it's too light to match the Dollmore body well.

 

I dont like the Unoa 1.5 as much as the 1.0 full stop

Left -- Sist 1-0
Middle-- Lusis 1.5
Right -- SR old version Sharmin body.

After looking carefully at all the bodies, I came to the conclusion my SR (serendipity) body needs to be blushed along the legs and arms to make a closer match, as she looks yellower in the limbs.

The Dollmore body tone is very close. I am not sure about the size of a DM girl body in the torso. You can see the male torso is quite a bit bigger. The SR body is quite a bit smaller.

The resin in the middle faceplate in the front row looks "whiter" to me, but it could be the colors in the faceup.

Someone name Lime (with umlaut over the e) in the Unoa Discussion thread recently showed a Unoa head on Souldoll mature girl body and it looked lovely. I asked them to come over and describe their hybrid here (including which version the faceplate is), but I don;t know if they will see my message.

chopsart Thanks so much for the photos. This is so great to see. I love the petite size of the Serendipity body. I'm so sorry I sold my Noel. Oh well, she is living with a good friend. I'm surprised to see how well both the Serendipity and Dollmore body match. The dollmore legs are so similar to Unoas'. I would love to see a comparison of a girl Dollmore body next to the Unoa.

Carolyn.S You stated above that the pic of the Unoa hybrid is on a Dollmore body but it's a souldoll body. The souldoll seems a little darker resin to me. I've seen them IRL though not side by side to a Unoa and I seem to remember the souldoll resin to be darker.

1. Do you know how old your Sharmin body is? It doesn't look very yellow but it may just be the photo. Is it from an early original Sharmin, later regular Sharmin, ns special Sharmin, or old-style Serendipity body Dollmore sold?

2. Who did your faceups??? I love them all? Who did each?
