Unoa Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Nov 9, 2005

    1. Your girls are so cool and have such distinct styles, Ashbet!

And Shara, I adore that spunky little vest she's got on....!

    2. Thank you passionasfashion for sharing this information, I will certainly give them a try for my Lusis!

    3. Thanks, Quiet Queen, it's one of the few self-made items that Éire regularly wears.

    4. My Bonaparte [Artificial Life Unoa Lusis mod] wears Dropglass outfit, by Superfrock (England).

    5. Gamayun : I love her faceup & romantic style! Especially the way the eyes have been done ♥

I've recently completed the work on my own girl, I modified the features & repainted her ^^

    6. Icchaeyo, wow, your girl is a treasure, definitely! She looks so vivid and unique, you can once look at her and never forget her stunning face. Great work, my congratulations!

    7. Icchaeyo Your girl is so pretty!

    8. WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! My jaw just dropped!!!!

    9. Icchaeyo she's one of the prettiest Lusis I've ever seen :D

    10. Amazing and beautiful, Icchaeyo! Not Araki-sensei at all, more Alice in Labyrinth!

    11. Hi,

I am a newbie to Unoa so please forgive the stoopid newbie questions. I have just signed up to Noppin, as I assume that Crescent has become Noppin. But does anyone have an inkling of when the new release is going to be? I have been looking at the Unoas in Dollybird for a long time now, and I can't forget them to be honest. So I think I am ready for a Unoa even though the idea of stringing them together and doing the face ups scares the willies out of me, I still would like one. I am doing plenty of research so I don't have to ask too many obvious questions but I have to admit that being notified by Noppin for the new releases seems a little sketchy. Is it just a case of checking on the Noppin Unoa shop all the time?

    12. I don't think there's a premeditated strict release schedule to Unoas, unfortunately. I just signed up on Crescent (now Noppin) and I got a newsletter email when a new preorder was coming up.

    13. No, there isn't a fixed schedule of release. It's all up to Araki-sensei's whimsy. Never expect the same doll type to be released mre than once a year, though. Wasn't the last release a couple of months ago...?

    14. I'm baack! And my Lusis is finally painted and pretty =] I hope you all like her new look. This is Noah.

    15. Lovely! And what a cute dress!

    16. I have finally joined the Unoa ranks!

One realy crappy, shaky picture of my lovely Olyvia:

    17. Noah and Olyvia are both gorgeous!! :aheartbea

I'm about to do something ambitious . . . if time & my current houseguest allow, I'm going to try to get a picture of all my Unoas at once (one Zero, one 1.0, three 1.5s, one 2.0, and two Chibis!) I have them all dressed up and arranged, and now I just have to be home at the right time so that I can catch sunlight coming into my living room ^__^

Also, I discovered something that may be old hat to some of you, but was new to me . . . a CHEAP source of stands that work for regular & Chibi Unoas! I bought a box of a dozen stands in Style 2625 (fits 15-16" slim fashion dolls or slim MSDs) for $34.50 at Denver Doll Emporium -- which is a bargain, considering that a single MSD stand at Volks USA is $50.00!!

You can only buy them by the dozen, but I'm sure that someone enterprising could do a group order and split them up amongst various Unoa/Narae owners :)

I had to bend the wire part at the bottom to shorten it to fit my Chibi girls (I'll take a picture if anyone wants to see), but they fit the 43cm girls (and my 2.0) just fine. I found these to be pretty nice, sturdy stands, particularly for the price!!

      -- A <3

    18. Thanks QuietQueen! It's actually for unoa chibi but It fits my girl just fine <3

Ookami I love your girls eyes! Really striking!

Ashbet thanks! And those stands look brilliant. Hmmm.

    19. Ashbet, sounds ambitious ;) But share us the results!

Half.Jak, I love that picture, the little flowers just make it that bit more adorable.

Tried a Crobi 7-8 wig on my girl with a silicone cap:

      Anew by Fyrd8th, on Flickr

It stays on! Which is good since I just love this wig....

    20. Shara, the wig looks so pretty on her!
I never thought that 7-8 wigs could fit Unoa just by applying a silicone cap :o

    21. I took a new picture of Olyvia today at our local dollmeet.

To me, she is the most amazing thing, ever :D I love her so much already, it's scary.

    22. Shara, the silicone wig cap is a brilliant idea! I've been known to fake it with a 7/8 wig by safety-pinning a stitch out of the back of the wig to tighten it (and then double-wrapping a rubber band around the headcap to provide extra grip), but your solution is much more elegant!

Ookami Takamori, Olyvia's dramatic eye makeup and eye color photograph beautifully! ^__^

Okay, guys, I finally did it -- I got a picture with all of them in the same frame, although I realized after the fact that Akiva (Unoa Light Azurite) is hiding behind Maris (Chibi-Lilin.)

      Here's the lineup:

Stella (Chibi-Unoa Lilin), Renata (Lusis), Pai (Unoa 2nd Cream Dollybird faceplate), Artemis (Unoa Light Fluorite), Fortune (Unoa Zero Marion), Akiva (behind Maris.)

      Front row:
Hazel (Mod. Unoa Lusis), Lamia (Unoa Sist), Maris (Chibi-Unoa Lilin), Rusalka (Lusis)

Someday, I need to figure out a way to set up a pretty display with all the faceplates . . . I am plotting an idea, but I'll have to spend some money to make it work, and I'm a little broke at the moment :sweat

More pics & close-ups on my Flickr!

      -- A :D

    23. What a nice collection Ashbet! Makes me a bit jealous to see all those gorgeous dollies at once...

    24. I got my Modded[eyes opened] Unoa Lusis FP yesterday! His name is Francess.
He's currently on a Doll-leaves body which is a 9o% match to his FP and is very proportionate with his tiny FP.
He has the MNF hands. More photos of him can be seen in his box opening/ on my Flickr!

    25. Shara Thank you!!

(And don't be TOO jealous . . . I've been collecting since 2005 and Unoas were among my very first loves, but at the time, they were really hard to get and UNGODLY expensive in the secondary market . . . so it's really fortunate that you're getting your first one now, when you can order them fairly regularly through the webshop or Noppin, rather than having to go to crazy lengths and stalk Y!J with a shopping service. I missed out any number of times before I managed to get my first 1.0 girl through a friend -- trust me, it's easier on your wallet and your peace of mind to be collecting them in the current day and age!! *LOL*)

      -- A <3

    26. Yeah I do count myself lucky! I'm thinking of getting a MNF body for my other FP exactly because of the second hand prices.

    27. Finally I managed to snap a quick picture of Allegra - I just don't have time to do that more often since I started working.

    28. Shara! Ashbet it absolutely right! Good idea on the MNF Body too! If I'd only known I might've saved a ton by just getting the fps! I LOVE my unoa girls and their bodies, but MNF bodies really do kick butt in price and poseability!!!!

    29. Ashbet, wow, gorgeous Unoa collection! I love all of them, they have their own, recognizable style and personality, and I remember the first time I saw your Lamia and Rusalka, and it was definitely an esthetic pleasure to watch them and see them in beautifully sophisticated photoshoots.

I can't imagine Fortune would look so big against 1.5 girls, but she is definitely a divine creation, graceful and stylish. Thank you very much for sharing!

Let me spam a bit with my beloved Bonaparte, B [Unoa Lusis mod].

    30. Oh my, Ashbet! All you need is a 2.0...! Such a perfect collection!

I love seeing all your girls, but if I had to name a favorite... I would have to confess to Gamayun's Bonaparte. She looks like so much like a glamorous turn of the century belle caught in a pensive moment!

    31. Quiet Queen,
      Ashbet,

thank you very much, Dear, for your amazing words about my Bonaparte, she is definitely my favorite and most loved doll, and I'm so happy you share my feelings about her :aheartbea

Ashbet, I've seen the picture on Flickr, and must say once again, your collection is perfect, and the most amazing thing is all your girls look like a one family, though each and every of them does have her own personality. I absolutely agree with you about how rare and expensive Unoas were several years ago. I bought my first Sist 1.4 in 2008, I remember perfectly that serious ebay battle I managed to win and get the doll. When she arrived, and I took her in my hands and looked at her, it was like a lightning )

    32. Gamayun Bonaparte is absolutely stunning :D

Have I ever posted those pic of Hektor? Forgive me if I already did but I don't think so...

Hektor is still a boy, even though he doesn't look like one xD

    33. Thank you so much!! :aheartbea

And, yes -- there is something very special and magical about Unoas . . . they just have such a wonderful living presence, and their curves and their faces are so charming and captivating!

      -- A <3

    34. Oh, I did see your Zero and the Lights, Ashbet - but I missed your 2.0....! Wonderful!!

    35. Thank you!! ^_^

There are more pictures of Pai here (some are nude to show her blushing), if you're interested!

Roterwolkenvogel, Hektor is wonderful -- so serene! Did you modify his wig to get it to fit so closely? I really like the short, sleek style!

      -- A :)

    36. Ashbet Thank you! An no, no modifications. It's a Crobi Wig and it somehow fits perfectly fine right out of the box.

    37. Roterwolkenvogel, Hektor is amazing, as well as your other Unoa with stunning name, Allegra! :) I've already seen them in our database and paid attention to a very attractive and superstylish Hektor's hairstyle, it seems he was born with this wig, it fits him like a second skin, if we can say so )

Ashbet, honestly, when I only thought about buying Unoa 2.0, I was watching your photos for hours, admiring your beautiful Pai. Her blushing is simply exquisite, and looks like a human skin, gentle and shining.

I just want to share my joy and excitement with you, my friends. I've just won Unoa B-El FP at yahoo auction and he is on his way to my place right now. I'm still thinking about his name.

    38. Gamayun, I bet he'll look marvellous next to your Lusis!

Manna welcomes you all to see her new gallery thread:

    39. Wow, everyone's Unoas are so lovely, which is why I love looking through this thread!:D I thought I'd contribute with a picture of my own boy, Luke:

    40. Gamayun, thank you so much! <3

Your new boy is wonderful -- so intent and hawkish in his expression, but his soft eyebrows lend a complexity to his mood. I think you're going to be thrilled with him -- can't wait to see your photos! :D

And Shara, Manna is so sweet and simple/elegant in her field of flowers!

      -- A <3

    41. Kimchi, I like those raggedy edged clothes he has. Where'd you get them?

      Ashbet, thank you :)

    42. Ashbet, thank you very much! I absolutely agree with your words about his appearance. I guess I was thrilled when I first saw him. I love his thoughtful and compicated face up, it'll be a fun to play a bit with his character and look.

Shara, thank you! I hope so too. Besides, I've got one more B-El, Alexander, so my Lusis will have not one but two handsome guys :)
I do love this shot of Manna in the blossoming field, I love the contrast between her pale porcelain skin and intense dark blue eyes, she looks very beautiful and sweet in the picture.

Kimchi, what a intriguing young man! I like the idea of his long-long upper eyelashes and pupilless and thus bottomless beautiful eyes.

    43. Shara, my boy's clothes are from MIYA. BJD on Taobao. I've got some other things from her, and the sewing and detailing on all the outfits is superb.:aheartbea

Gamayun, aw thank you!:whee: I gave him those long eyelashes because I've run into so many guys in real life with nicer eyelashes than me.xD Your new boy's faceup is really lovely. I think the artist did a wonderful job choosing the color palette. I hope you'll share pictures of him when he arrives!:D

    44. I'm just curious bout something.

I'm thinking of making my Unoa as a pre-operative transexual. I'm not sure yet. But my question is this....
Could a unoa boy torso be replaced with a unoa girl torso with ease? Or are they two totally doifferent sizes? I want to keep his lower half male and upper half female looking.

For the unoa expert, is this possible?

    45. Ask Darkmothflame I think it is? I know she did one like that. It was a while ago and she eventually sold her.

    46. I assume the Standard Unoa size?

1.5 Unoa-female bust with Unoa-male, it works very well. The opposite, 1.5 Unoa-male bust with Unoa-female loses balance and is not suggested.

    47. Is the 1.5 the larger of the female busts?
And yes, standard. My Unoa is the L-Bi. I was wondering if the large bust female torso would fit him

    48. Unoa 1.5 is a doll body made after a certain point. Which means it`s not a difference in bust size but how it`s made. You can tell the difference in the actual whole doll: when you push the upper torso backwards, if you see a gap in the stomach it`s not a 1.5. If the shoulder joint dosn`t have interlocks, they are not 1.5.

    49. i think it would work. :)

    50. I just need to know if a Unoa large bust Girl torso would fit on an L-Bi lower body. I'm sure the arms and head would be no problem. I just need to know if the body would fit properly, or if it would have issues.

    51. it fits fine - there is a *sight* gap at the joint, but it doesn't affect posing or anything ^^

i'm actually thinking of bringing back my unoa character who was a hermaphrodite actually - with the boy body and the large female torso ^^

    52. Yay! I'm excited to see her again. And to see what you, Comicbookartistboi, does. :D <3 <3

    53. I have had a character for a while that i've been trying to flesh out... IN my story, he is a boy, but feels like a girl trapped in a boy's body. Once i get my unoa, i'll have to toy with the idea, and see what comes of it. I've already started looking at outfits for him LOL

Are the Unoa's feet all the same size? or do the girls have slightly smaller feet?

    54. Could someone who has bought parts from Noppin recently confirm if they still come in the "old" 1.5 resin color? I've just bought a pair of option arms and hands for my girl and I'm worried that they'll come in the new "fresh" color.

    55. sukeban: I bought some faceplates and hands from noppin, which arrived just a few days ago and they match my 1.5 Unoa pretty well. She is a little yellowed, but the new faceplates are not that much pinker.

    56. Thank you! I feel a lot better now ^__^

    57. I was excited to see the arms options, too -- I have never been a fan of 1.5 elbows, so eventually I'd like to replace the arms on all 3 of my 1.5 girls.

Do the arms come with a pair of standard hands, or is it just the upper and lower arm part? I'm assuming no hands, since they aren't mentioned? (Oh, and UGH, I just noticed the "2 pairs per person" limit -- why do they do that??!?)

On a cheerier note, I got a new wig that I *love* for Psyche, so she got some photos taken the other day:

I've set myself on a project to make new portrait pics of all of my different faceplates . . . it will take a while (since each requires clothing/hair/eye changes), but I'm having fun with it! :D

      -- A :)

    58. Hello Unoa thread~ unoaless here, but wanting to ask a question for veteran owners, since I just can't seem to pinpoint one for myself no matter how much I search :'<.

I understand that Araki only casts one type once in a while, but has anybody been able to determine any sort of schedule? I personally am dying for an L-bi kit (been wanting one since the boys were first released), but I can't determine when there might be a preorder for them. I've looked through all the info and read a lot here, but it seems like maybe they just aren't cast as much as the girls?

Also, a question of preference on buying, do you prefer to purchase via Noppin or the AlchemicLabo webshop with a service? If there's any major differences in prices, that might be convenient to know.

I'm dying for an L-bi, but all I ever see secondhand are B-els. I'm hoping I won't have to wait forever.

    59. I'm afraid that, as far as I can tell, the releases are timed by Araki-san's whims. There is usually at least a bit of warning beforehand so that you can get money together!

Best wishes on getting your dream boy!

And here's my L-Bi, who's no kind of boy at all:

-- A (slowly but surely, making my way through the portrait project!)
