was i having a waking dream or am i remembering correctly that someone said Mori 9 sculpted a couple of the new heads for Universe Doll?

 

Mori 9? I never heard of them- I need to look at some of their work. I wonder how many sculptors they had at UD.

 

hmm, maybe not then... my brain can be an odd space
i thought all of UD's were one person too. they still do a lot of faceups so maybe i just got confused from that on instagram
i really love their style, i like BaiHu and CangLang, Fengniao, Hot and De'ath... sigh. and all of the unique fantasy ones... how to choose...

oh wow, good to know. that new larger scale body they are on is interesting to me as well... sort of in-between ID72 & 75 for my bigger necked floating heads, i might be having trouble talking myself out of it... ---my wallet weeps---

 

Ahh I just looked at some of Mori 9’s work, yes it’s incredible i love their faceup style too.

 

Hmm, I've been eyeing the Huayue, Fengniao, and Blind Butterfly head's for a while, but I really don't need any more floating heads. I'm finally making progress with the ones I have.

@Angelesk I might have to get a Fengniao now Those lips are just irresistible I haven’t seen the hands up close of the UD body, the fingers are so long and lovely.

 

He has some very long fingers, sometimes I think that they're almost alien-like (and I really need to clean them off, I noticed that they have white resin residue on them) His lips are what SOLD me though! The Huayue sculpt seems to have those same lips too! I'm a sucker for a good pout.

 

This is why I've been eyeing them both. Those liiiiiippppssss! XD

I saw that you were looking at the Blind Butterfly too! I have been looking at that one as well, but could never find many owner pictures of him. I found one (I think) on Instagram, and that was pretty much it. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of them floating around.

I also tried my luck with ordering Veles and Austaras through Mori9 directly, but nothing came of that.

 

I could never find photos of Blind Butterfly either! I remember asking when he came out if there were any pictures without the paper butterflies...but they said no. I'd be very excited to see what he looks like!

@Cloudedmind Don't tempt me with those sales on Cloversinging. I seriously CAN'T I would be in so much trouble. With the sheer amount I have spent on dolls this year alone, I could probably have a pretty nice used car.

But does he come with the Butterflies? I feel like they should have taken more pictures without those. I get it...he's the blind butterfly...but like..we need to see his face?

 

Haha, I have been called out! But alas, I am saving, saving, saving for a certain doll already and no distractions!

 

You can never have too many frowny or pouty boys! That's my gang too (and one winky boy?) everyone is just so p-offed all the time! I adore Baihu and Canglang together, but I haven't seen Mori9 re-release dolls (maybe they have and I missed it?). But the order for Veles and Austaras was a hot mess. The email dedicated to the order function went down for a bit, so I know that people were sending orders multiple ways. I'm sure that the traffic alone was way more than they ever intended for it to be, and I know that some people weren't to thrilled about not getting chosen in the order. I didn't know that he was working on a body, I'm anxious to see the outcome of that! There's a lot of his heads that I would love to see him collaborate with UD on to make more accessible for the normies (me) who can't always rush the order form.

Ugh, my credit card is looking pretty bare right now. Maybe I can pop one on there? I shouldn't though.

 

*me sitting here contemplating taking one for the team* If I did buy one it would just be the head for now, as I would want to put him on a different body. I've been interested in the new DF-H 72cm body.

I also tried for them and also got diddly squat.

 

@idrisfynn lol I agree with @Angelesk - can never have too many pouty boys … lol I just realized tho I have smilies on layaway . Now I HAVE to put a 3rd head in the cart- just need to decide Fengniao, the other one, or the newest boy Baihu and Canglang so pretty but I’m afraid they’re too big for me. I’ll have to admire from afar.

@Dei Those are probably some of the best pictures I've seen of his face! I personally am not "smitten" with him. But he's very pretty, I think that with the right faceup he could be incredibly beautiful. I do love his jawline, but something about his forehead makes his face look somewhat flat? Perhaps it's the angle that he's at in the picture.

I wouldn't say it's super recent, but I ordered at the beginning of this year and my order was ready in a month and a half!! I hadn't even finished my layaway yet!

Universedoll doesn't seem to be a very in-demand company (which is a shame, as the work their sculptors do is phenomenal!) so it doesn't seem that their order backlog is very big.

I'm hoping my order will be done in a reasonable amount of time (hopefully sometime around/before Christmas, but I won't die if it turns out to be longer). I've had multiple 10+ month waits this past year, haha, so I'd rather not have another that long any time soon.

And I totally agree that they should be more popular! Their sculpts are really gorgeous

 

Definitely!! They really are an underrated company, their sculptors are all so talented!

I'd ordered (human) Alsop in normal skin so I can see a tan skin potentially taking longer, but overall it seems like Universedoll has a quick turnaround time! (I also ordered through Christina/Newcloversinging so she was quicker to ship than I've experienced with say Legenddoll).

whelp. i'm in too. Canglang, and couldn't pass up the sale for floating heads for De'Ath... i did a layaway, so it will be a while i think.

 

I placed a layaway order through Clover-Singing and UD has my order ready to ship to me My layaway isn’t even finished yet I have 2 more payments to go but I think I’ll just pay the whole amount in the middle of September

Yes on Clover-Singing only, you could request ANY head but the event is over (July-Sept. 1) You can message Christina and ask if they’ll have another one tho

 

AWH MAN, why am I always late to these kinds of things I also just missed out on Evatydoll Prajna's re-release. I need a bjd manager who informs me of important news lol.

But I can see on fengniao's sales site on clover singing, in the product description, that it still says that you can write on email and request to purchase the head separately.. Hmm. Was this an event universe doll had announced? Maybe clover singing just hasn't changed the description yet. I wrote and asked, we'll see

Lol a BJD manager would be awesome However, I think I’d go broke faster I hope Christina will let you get Fengniao- I’m sure she will tho she seems pretty connected (I mean I tried two other places asking if UD sell head only- Christina is legit MVP ).

I can't wait to see your unboxings!!! I ordered thru Cloversinging and took about a month from shipping notice til arrival but mine was also shipped close to Chinese New Year so employment may have been understaffed

Unfortunately the event closed! I was too late lol, which is the story of my life!
I did ask her however if she knew whether there would be such an event again in the future and she answered that she hoped it would happen again around Christmas! So we'll see - if that happens, it just might be my Christmas gift for myself this year heh.

i got a notice my Cang Lang Blue Wolf is ready to ship! he's like 3 months early
i don't know yet if my De'Aths (heads) are in there or not... but still, i can't wait to see him!
Christina said he's a massive boy i guess he's joining Club titan...

 

I was told that heads sculpted by Mori9 were not included in the head only sale during the event, so I would not get too hopeful about Fengniao being available in a future event.
Looking forward to seeing more Cang Lan! I can't handle dolls that size, so I'm super excited that Mori9 is doing a collab with DollFamily H for a 68cm guy.

I hope that they'll sell heads by themselves again. I'd love either human Zacharias or human DeAth for a character to shell, but I want to put him on a very slender looking body without defined muscles.

 

Hi everyone, I have a question for Universe doll owners. I am a BJD newbie.

I just bought an SD-sized Universe Jonas head second-hand which I am confident is legit - has CoA, metal Universe doll disc inside head, etc.

The sculpt is beautiful but markedly asymmetric (to me.) Measured with calipers, the distance from the bottoms of the ear to the rim of the neck is 12mm on one side and a bit over 8mm on the other side for an symmetry of almost 4mm. The doll's left nostril and left corner of the mouth, are about 1mm lower than the right side. The lower left eye orbital also appears lower but I haven't measured it with calipers yet. I noticed it immediately -- the human eye sees asymmetry of about 0.2mm and higher. This is not necessarily bad as the vast majority of real human bodies also have asymmetry but it was surprising to me.

My question for Universe doll owners, is this sculpt asymmetry also present in the 70cm SD sized bodies? I am trying to decide whether to get a Universe doll body or not.

Based on this asymmetry I assume they sculpt the dolls by hand, not using 3D modeling software?

 

My Lu Zimo is slightly asymmetrical but not my YuYuan- I’m not sure if both of these dolls were sculpted by the same artist. I think some of the earlier 70cm dolls look asymmetrical in their promos. In fact, I wanted LuZimo because of this imperfection Judging by the quality of the head sculpts tho, to me it looks like they sculpted the asymmetrical purposefully it’s just, the resin is such good quality and such beautiful profiles how do they not notice it being asymmetrical?


I got the UniverseDoll body last year and it is beautifully sculpted. I do not notice any asymmetry in the body. I can post pics of it tomorrow if you like?

 

Thank you!! It's super helpful to me to know that you also have a head with pleasing asymmetry but don't see any in the body. I always love seeing photos, but your judgement that you don't see asymmetry is most important. I couldn't see asymmetry in the Jonas head glamor photos due to the angles it was shot at, so I wasn't sure about the body.

 

It's been awhile since this thread had activity, but does anyone know if Universe Doll does tan for events only? I tried to inquire about ordering a doll in tan, but Christina/New Clover Singing told me that they don't offer it anymore. I looked in their Taobao store, and the tan option is gone, too.

That said, does anyone have a doll in yellow? What do you think of it? Some yellows, like Dollzone's new yellow, are just a hard pass. If tan is no longer available, this may be an okay alternative...

So this is still Musen doll, right? I am so confused because when I buy Musen they aren't under Universe doll, but I posted Dual here when I got him (I have two more heads coming in and I'm not sure this is the right place lol)
