Universe Doll Discussion

Jun 5, 2017

    1. So, Musen Musen, the artist, has posted in the News Subforum, a couple orders have been posted in the Waiting Room, and one thread in Photo Gallery, so I'm assuming these dollies are on topic, but where's the Doll-Specific Thread to fuel more BJD hoarding?

      Here are some helpful links:

    2. I both like and dislike De'Ath skull version... It's a cool concept, but his bottom teeth are WAY too big!

Also, Crack looks a little too much like Baiye/grown Baiye... seems very heavily based on him, from the horns, pointed ears, open fang mouth, and cracking skin paint job.

    3. @thorneless

I ordered De'Ath. I want mine to be female--I love the deep-set eyes. And I have a huge weakness for teeth. (I have 7/13 dolls with visible teeth with plans to add removeable teeth to at least one more.)

    4. no problem. I ran into her work recently on etsy and flickr and admired them very much (even if not fitting in my collection atm).

      • x 1
    5. Oooh, I see De'Ath's human listing (and probably others, but i'm too lazy to look) have nude pictures of the body! Anyone getting it? I'd love to see more of it :D

I quite like their work! I'll definitely keep watch!

    6. I love De'Ath. He's definitely on my must-have list.

Legend at first had him listed as limited but I recently learned that this was an error, he's open edition but he will be going up in price.

    7. @Lighthouse Asylum

Good to know! I'm thinking about the body for another head because I like the upper chest joint and sculpting.

It seems I may have missed another head which may eventually be sold by Musen Musen or UniverseDoll: Batman.

I've added him to the first post.

    8. Oh my goodness I looove the fangy Batman!! That's definitely one to watch for I think. Any word on the bodies? And what about potential resin matches?

    9. The creepy art style is mesmerising... and something I noticed while stalking the instagram account, they've included an element in the body blushing I have never seen or even considered before. Pubic hair. I am now 100% set on adding body hair to any and all future body blushing endeavors I undertake or otherwise commission. What a tiny but beautiful addition!

    10. @thorneless

I'm not actually in contact with anyone from the company--I just liked the dolls and wanted to talk about them--so I don't know about resin matching. I've looked on the sites I've linked in my first post and found no resin comparisons.

I'm not sure anyone has received their dolls yet, but you'll have mine (snow white which I plan to resist dye with frisket/liquid latex) to compare to Supia white, Souldoll white, Or-Doll white, Soom white, Dollshe Fresh Skin, PygmalionDoll white (although I can tell you now this one is too pink), and Doll Legend white (non-imported) when it arrives. (These are the whitish resins I have which are still their original color and not dyed.)

    11. @americanseamstress I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with your incoming head, thank you for bringing up this artist!

      • x 1
    12. I'm also in love with De'Ath, too. I'm adding him to my wish list now. He's gorgeous! :love

For people who concern about resin matching, I've already talked with the shop and they confirm that their resin colour is similar to IOS doll. You can see other resin comparison through this link.

At first, I want only a body for my Switch head but after I saw a hybrid from some Chinese BJD players, I've changed my mind and considered to get a full doll instead. This body really has a very long neck. So I don't think it will compatible with other company heads that much. You can see some review from the artist's weibo. I really love this body. Their additional hands are looking good. I'm so tempted to buy all of them.

Here is what I've known so far about this company. Hope it helps. :3nodding:

    13. @fancat

Thanks for the links! I had seen UniverseDoll's Weibo, but not the artist's. I've added the links to the first post!

    14. @americanseamstress Glad that I can help! I might miss your first post. I don't see you've already provided some link information. I'm just getting too excited when I see a new thread about this company. They're some authorized dealers in Taobao based on Artist's weibo post (I've read it long time ago. I'm not sure there still on the feed or not).

Here are the list that I still have.
      1. 圈圈球BJD实体店 (I used to buy some eyes from this shop when they came to my local BJD event last year.)
      2. 银谷屋BJD娃娃店铺 (This shop has some special color options (need to pay more for color fee) for you to choose to make the body or hands compatible with other company such as IOS, Soom, Switch (SNG), etc.)

There are more dealers but I didn't save the link. So here is all I have. :)

      • x 1
    15. @fancat

Where is UniverseDoll in the second link?

I think I've already included the first link under UniverseDoll TaoBao Dealer in my first post.

      Thank you!

      @thorneless

@fancat has pointed me to a resin comparison with DollIOS, which I have now linked to my first post on this thread.

    16. @americanseamstress Here is the link for the second shop. I saw you put the first shop in your first post. i just want to tell that this shop is an authorized dealer of Universe Doll. Sorry I missed type it.:)

This one is the direct link of Universe Doll shop in Taobao.

Here is a video of a hybrid between IOS head and Universe Doll body. Both are in White skin. For me, the proportion looks OK more than Luts.

    17. I actually bought their hands with eyes release recently and I'm quite excited for it to arrive!

I dunno if it belongs here though haha. It's not really the full doll but I really enjoy their hand sculpts

    18. I bought a blank De’Ath Skull version and an extra pair of hands on layaway through Legend Doll some time ago. I bought both in yellow skin. I think the head is pretty cool and I am very interested in the body and to see if it would work to make hybrids out of some of my floating heads.

      • x 1
    19. @Prinsessen

I've linked some hybrids to the first post on the thread. It appears you may have to do a neck shortening mod to get some hybrids to work.

I've ordered the De'Ath scull head as well, for a female doll in white skin, but I may be adding the body on to hybrid.

    20. @americanseamstress Yes, I have seen the links :)
I plan to shorten the neck, but I will judge how much when it arrives. The plan is to use the body for one of my floating Nabarro heads. But if I love the De'Ath head too much he can keep the body :D

      • x 1
    21. Oh my gosh! I'm in love with that beast version--it has the ears I need *^*
The thing that surprised me is that these dolls are relatively cheaper sculpts, at ~$400 USD (used google to convert yuan to USD). The quality looks astounding.

I saw someone's Universedoll Musen on the front page, in the photos--it took my breath away!

    22. @americanseamstress just saw that you tagged me - thank you for letting me know about the resin comparisons!

I just can't get over those hands... love those hands :love:abow:

    23. @NekoMida

I do think they are beautifully sculpted dolls for the price!

      @thorneless

      Sure!

I'm in the same boat--I keep waiting for more hands to show up on Musen Musen's Etsy (if they're not much more expensive than Taobao, I'd rather use that service).

    24. Oh a thread about Universe Doll! Great! :-)
I bought a De'Ath human version, pink skin with faceup and bodyblushing.
      I'm so excited :D

      • x 1
    25. @StillsEve

Join the club! A couple of us have ordered the De'Ath head as well! (Although mine's not with faceup.) I'll be interested to see what the pink skin looks like because I have a feeling that I'm going to like a lot of this artist's sculpts! :XD:

I think that a couple more photos of Batman have been added to Musen Musen's Flickr for a couple days now. I added another link next to his name!

    26. Musen Musen's Instagram has updated with a new version of the UniverseDoll body with a 3-part torso and new hands!

    27. @Lirin

Oh good, the Etsy is going to be stocking more items. Perhaps I will take this opportunity to order some more hands...

      On another note:

It's funny someone has revived the thread today, as I was finally able to collect my UniverseDoll order (both De'Ath heads and body). I added the body, and I think now I wish I had waited for the one with the hip joint! I may see whether I can order the parts for it later.

The body has a distinctive look, but the hands, feet, and body are wonderfully sculpted. I'll be posting a box opening thread with more photos, but both the hand and feet joint have a locking system for the strangely-elongated s hooks to make removing hands and feet much easier.

I didn't take pictures of the heads on the body, as they're for two different characters, but here are a couple photos. I'll link to my box opening when I post it:

    28. @americanseamstress Wow! About how long did it take for him to arrive, what was customs like? I'm stuck between a Zacharias and a DZ Morley, but I really like the Zacharias body/head better (plus it has pointed ears).

      • x 1
    29. @NekoMida

I don't think the box stayed in customs for more than a day or so--being in the US (I see you are too (?)), I don't really notice boxes staying very long (probably because I'm not being charged!)

It's actually worse for me if the box arrives through New Jersey (after customs) instead of New York or Chicago. I've had packages get lost there and stay a week!

      • x 1
    30. @americanseamstress I see you've already made a few comments about the body, but if you're ever up for making a more extensive review, I'm sure many would appreciate it! :wiggle I'm particularly interested in the balance of the body-- does it stand well?

And congrats on the new doll!!!

      • x 1
    31. @Xila

Sure! If you (or others) would like to list what you want to see, I'd be glad to do it. I'm not with the body right now, but I can at least get it done by Tuesday.

I'll have to stand it again to see whether it's easy to balance, but once standing it seemed pretty sturdy.

    32. Great to hear, @americanseamstress !!! Besides standing, i'd also be interested in seeing how close the knees can be drawn up to the chest... but that's about it! Maybe someone else will chime in with other things :) Take your time, I'm just casually curious! This company has a lot of interesting stuff.

      • x 1
    33. @Xila

The photo of the contorted body above shows how far the legs can be bent toward the torso. In my box opening thread, which I linked above as well, I state that it's about a 45 degree angle from the torso. Did you want to know how much it can be forced, because that's how far it goes unaided?

    34. @Xila

The body is a sturdy stander and can sort of just be plopped down--the legs do not need to be very far apart, but they cannot be touching. The body will not stand on one leg.

      Here's another
      [IMG]

I'd still be happy to show you how close the knees can be drawn up--just tell me how it's different from the photo above. The feet aren't sticky enough to force the knee any closer to the chest than 45 degrees (see above) due to their force downward on carpet.

      • x 3
    35. @americanseamstress YAY thank you!!! :D Love that lotus pose-- he does it really well!!!

I did see the photo above, and in the box opening-- now I can't remember why i asked again, haha! :? I must've forgotten that I already knew. Thank you for that, too!

      It's definitely a nice-looking body!!!

      • x 1
    36. @Xila

      No problem!

I wondered if maybe you were thinking about sueding, or forcing the leg to hold closer to the body through friction. That's why I said the force of the foot pressing on the carpet wasn't enough (but maybe with shoes?).

The mobility joint is a hemisphere, so a kip or sueding might help too. I don't own kips, and I don't like to hot glue suede, but if I get kips I'll be sure to try it.

    37. The limited guy Blanc looks beautiful! I wonder if he's going to be available on the 3 part torso body.... I'm very tempted by this one, and there is time to save up, but. My icon guy still needs a new body. Idk. But universe doll has a special aesthetic, something that seems to set it a bit apart.

      • x 1
    38. Wow! Blanc is lovely! I love the eyes and how young he looks!

I contacted UniverseDoll recently and was told that the three-part torso is always an option--and I think they stated that it doesn't actually cost more than the 2 part torso!

    39. Musen Musen/WoodForestDoll's Etsy shop is now selling heads only and full dolls for Shock Zacharias, Lindberg (The Batman), De'Ath, and Blanc.

    40. Since it's been almost a week, I thought I'd revive this thread with a picture of my hybrid: UniverseDoll De'Ath in white skin on a FantasiaDoll muscle body in tan (the head will be airbrushed or dyed to match).

It looks like I have another project started...

    41. I love the deer sculpt with the cleft upper lip, it's a very unique concept, very delicate body too

      • x 1
    42. I was on a dyeing kick and dye-matched all my resin that was waiting. My Dollshe Arsene/Dollstown hybrid hands from Doll Legend got dyed, and my UniverseDoll heads as well.

      Here she is:
Petra is on the FantasiaDoll Muscle body

I think this is the best dye job I've ever done. I'm really proud of the masked (liquid latex/masking fluid/frisket) skull/dead/zombie head:

Some parts had dye soak through the masking fluid where it was thin, but the edges are all very sharp, and I was able to get some very narrow crags (like the crack in her forehead).

      • x 1
    43. Gosh @americanseamstress yes! Your dye job is perfect! The head looks like it came with the body. Awesome! I love Friskit. I used it a lot for watercolor painting. Thank you for your experiment, because now I know it can be used on resin. I'm was hoping I could use it for face ups when I get an airbrush. I didn't see any reason it wouldn't work, but even with dye, wow.

      • x 1
    44. @kurogane

Yes! Frisket can be used on resin (just do yourself a favor and buy a color that doesn't match the resin--I chose white and it's the worst). I used this technique earlier for my Prometheus, who has a more extensive resist dyeing.

It will hold on to the resin and prevent it from being dyed so long as it is thick enough to provide a solid barrier. Multiple layers with drying in between is essential.

    45. It looks like UniverseDoll has released another deer doll: Ampil. A sibling for Shock Zacharias, perhaps?

I'm in the midst of determining which route to go for my De'Ath's wardrobe: Victorian or high middle ages/Islamic empire. I had this nice character planned out and now every time I look at her I see her in a lacy dress. The lace will need to be dyed darker to match the silk (which is why I'm in this mess to begin with--the variegated silk is lovely) regardless of who wears it, but I need to know who wears it in order to making clothing that fits!.

    46. Wow, De'Ath makes an amazing lady, and what a fantastic dye job! This is so great. The male body looks really good in owner photos too, I like the subtle sculpting of the torso... you know how some guy dolls have 6 to 8 rectangles carved in there and a randomly placed navel

      • x 1
    47. Thanks! I really love this head as a girl as well (although I'm hoping to see others interpretations--as guys or gals really)!

I love the sculpting of the body--it has some really nice design features and detailing (as you've noted the abdomen, and I really have a weakness for the hands) as well as some interesting engineering (you can lock the elongated s-hooks in the hands and feet to change the hands/feet).

I'm adding my other UniverseDoll head here, as I somehow forgot to include it, despite posting this right after dyeing it! :doh

Here's my Blanc head on a Loongsoul 62cm body, (I like him as a younger character.)

    48. Oh! I didn't realize there was a Universe Doll thread!
      Hello! ^___^

It's great to see some dolls already home to people!

I have the Musen hands with the eyes already home, and I'm waiting on a full doll (De'Ath skull version). I'm going to hybrid the body, but I'm planning to have fun with the skull head and make it into a broken nutcracker automaton.

I was so excited when I saw this company. I'm so in love with the style of hands!

      • x 1
    49. @Lady Ravenswood
I love the skull head! What resin color did you order for the body and the head?

I also look forward to seeing your nutcracker! Is it a sentient nutcracker or more of a mechanical turk? What a cool idea!

    50. @americanseamstress

I ordered De'Ath in normal yellow, as I think it will be the best match for the head I want to hybrid with (crosses fingers). My hope is that it will only take a little blushing to match.

And thank you! I've been reading my daughter a book of the Nutcracker ballet a lot lately, hehe, and the idea stemmed from there. So the idea is something around a broken automaton that was made by Herr Drosselmeyer. I want to give the broken face a high color, porcelain feeling and add in some metallic accents to the skull underneath (like brass). Since the Nutcracker turns into a Prince in the story, I thought it was interesting for him to have a skull underneath the broken porcelain. Also, those big teeth! ^_~

      • x 2
    51. @Lady Ravenswood

The Nutcracker! My sister loved that story--we went to see the ballet in our city a couple times. It's beautiful!

    52. Yes, I've really been entranced all over again after reading the story so many times! Hehe. Since I have other plans for the body I thought maybe a broken automaton would be a good backstory for a floating head.

Also, I have to say, the dye job you did came out SO lovely on those heads. I'm really interested to see how your lady comes out. ^__^

Ahhh! I want my guy to ship already! Hehe.

    53. @Lady Ravenswood

Thank you! I really like how the resist dye turned out on the skull head!

And I hope you receive your head quickly--it's really well sculpted!

    54. I've been looking at links from the first page to keep myself from going crazy while I wait. Hehe. ;)
Thanks for posting all those goodies! :bcake

Hmm...but I think the link about 5th Motif fit might be a bit confusing. The Venitu in those photos really looks to be on the Timeless body (they are 5th Motif hands for sure) and I think it's an IOS Sezz (maybe?) on the Universe Doll body?

It's actually really cool to see the two hands together!!
Ack! I'm so excited. I have a Venitu and I'm so in love with that style of hands now. Hehe. I was so happy to see another company doing something similar in the hand area.
Ok well, now I'm apparently just going to bounce around in impatience. Haha. I'm just super in love with the sculpting from Universe Doll and it's making me all antsy. :sweat

      • x 1
    55. Sure. ^__^
I can pop my Venitu head on the Universe Doll body once it arrives too!

    56. Hi!
When I saw Blanc, I'm fall in love this sculpt and bought him in a moment! I don't know what body need for this head, cause I don't saw hybrids of this company yet. For good luck, I had Immortality of Soul doll on 70cm body in white skin and order head in milky white. And I want to say - it's amazing hybrid!

    57. Nice, @jack_sea
The Blanc head is really lovely. ^__^
Can't wait to see what you do with him! Looks like the resin match is pretty much perfect.

      Aaaaaaand!
      My Nutcracker is here!

I need to paint him and I have some fun ideas for accessories I can make, but I managed to pull together a dang decent outfit from items I already had! Wooohoo! Hehe. I'm really happy with this outfit. Hm...have to figure out what I want to do about boots. Anyway...

And due to a series of events he will get to keep this body all to himself.
(Can I just say that Universe Doll and Stacy's Pink Ocean are both awesome and their customer service is super amazing. I kinda legit cried with how nice they both are. :chocoheart)
