Troll doll making

Nov 26, 2012

    1. I keep coming back and checking if you've decided to make molds of this dude. I absolutely adore what you've got going on here!

    2. Really cool! The more alternative subject matter of trolls is also really interesting and not explored enough.

    3. Oooo! I love this! :chibi

    4. Wow, he's amazing! So much detail and such a unique design!

    5. We need updates! He is amazing. Did you ever get him painted?

    6. Nope xD
But I'm saving up money to cast him now. I'm half way, but unemployed and kinda broke x)

    7. Thank you for updating us here too! I hope all the things go well, and it's great to see that there are others that are still interested as well :)

    8. Hi!
I'm just overwhelmed that anybody even remembers him after all this time :aheartbea
maybe I should give you some more pictures of him? :)

      • x 3
    9. Oh, come on, how could we forget?
And more pictures are always welcome!

      • x 1
    10. Yes! More pictures of this guy! He's still so unique and amazing!

    11. We would absolutely love more pictures!

    12. Oh my gosh yes please, more pictures!! I think about this dude all the time, he's awesome :D

    13. Hi! Ok so I took photos of Ramunder the other day with my phone, but the proportions looked so weird and of. Sooo, I had
to take out my real camera, and it sucks, but I tried, sorry about that! x)
      So, some info (rant?).
He is "finished" but I see some things that I would have to correct before casting him, and i wish I cold make a junk cast myself that I could have a as a master so that I could use epoxy properly, but I will have to use what I got. It will have to be a future project to learn casting.
He is not that tall, since he is so bent in his standing pose, It hink he is around 60cm (23,6 inches), but he is BIG and heavy, and he will cost a fortune to cast. x)
I really hope that I can get at least a few orders on him despite this when it's time. The tail is one of the reasons it's expensive, it is 10 parts. The entire doll is 32 parts.
I have added a picture of him posing with my Little Monica Sophia, she is a SD13 (57,3cm according to LM).
I'm saving up for casting production costs, but it will take me some time at the moment. And I really, really reeeeeally want to make sure that the resin version is ok before hosting a preorder, and selling him. So I will have to pay for casting and at least 1 casted doll.
But enough of me babbling. Here are the pictures. I hope it's ok that I post so many ( I did look in the rules but could not find any limited amounts), if not I have them in my Flickr gallery :)

    14. Thank you for the images! Please let us know when you have an estimate of the cost so we can start saving up lol

I absolutely love the hunched back and posture <3

      • x 1
    15. Oh, that posture! Now THIS is what a fantasy creature should look like. :nosebleed

If you ever want to talk casting under. eh.. primitive conditions, send me a message. I'm getting pretty experienced with workarounds to compensate for lack of funds and proper equipment.

    16. OH. this guy is incredible! so beautiful! and what a unique concept for a BJD. i commend yoooooou.

    17. I saw him on tumblr the other day and I was blown away! He's so unique and you've done such an excellent job, I cant get over how he's just bursting with character! I can only imagine what adding a faceup and clothing would do!

I think you've done an amazing job and (personally) think you shouldn't have much trouble finding people interested. That slouch alone! My fingers are crossed for a successful casting and order period once you've got it all figured out!

Congratulations on getting him finished and just all the congratulations on making him so darn interesting!

    18. The wig really is perfect for him. His face is just beautiful. My fantasy crew is all 1/4 size, he would be a giant to them!

    19. Hi friends!
      I have a tiny, tiny update ^_____^
I have saved up for casting molds, phew, so expensive. I have contacted the casting company to let them know I want to make my doll.
I have no date yet when I will ship him or when I can expect a resin sample. But, I feed so proud right now, and I hope I can make a new update in a near future. ^_^

    20. Wohoo! Congratulations!
      :sumomo:

    21. Superfint troll! ;) There must have been a lot of iteration to get his joints to work well, especially with the bodyshape he has!

    22. Amazing, that is wonderful to hear! Can maybe start saving up just in case :D

      • x 1
    23. He is wowing, and I love him! I wish you the best of luck with your casting goals. <3

    24. Ooh congratz! That is so nice to hear!

    25. That's amazing! I can't wait to see the final resin casting! Ooh, I kind of hope he doesn't cost too much so I can get one, but on the other hand you totally deserve sooo much for all the work you've put into this project... Oof! Maybe I'll get lucky and get a bonus around the time he's released, lol!

I love the overall design so much! I'm personally not very fond of the super crooked zigzaggy ears, but them being detachable makes that sooo easy to change it's hardly worth thinking about. The only other feedback I have is that I would perhaps have put the shoulder joint just a tiiny bit further forward/down. That's more of a design choice though, since I would want him to look more slouched than hunched. :huh?: And trolls are kinda supposed to be hunched... alright, nevermind, I have absolutely no constructive criticism - he's perfect! :dance

    26. Nice sculpt! I like him a lot!) I'm trying to make a goblin doll, but I just started, so there's a long way ahead.
I wish you luck with the process and hope to see him finished soon.

    27. Hehe, I don't agree x) He is in no way near perfect, I know that, I have changed him soooo many times over the years, moving shoulders and leg joints around endlessly, think it took me 5 years. He is my first finished doll too, so he is more of a learning project, but still I finished him at last. But I am done now and I will not make more changes, I just need to let go. :) And I do love him and he makes me smile when I see him!
Yes, the idea with the ears is to be able to change them if they break, and I did have an idea of future extra parts like different ears and such. These ears are a very old part of the sculpt so I might make changes to them tho, and they have broken like 5 million times over the years any way and I need to repair cracks before sending them of any way. :)
But we will see, I'm more interested in a new project, I have so many new ideas ans sketches and plans since years back. But since we bought our farm 4 years ago I don't have a lot of time to sit down and work on dolls. x(
On the other hand I do have better spaces to be when I need to sand, spray primer, and I have a compressor and I would have room for an evacuated chamber to cast bubble free resin parts in, and that would allow me to cast junk parts, that would speed up the process so so much, and make joints and tiny details so much better. But first things first! :)

    28. That sounds so cool, I wish you all the luck whit your doll project! :D

Yeah, that might be a good idea, he will be so expensive to cast, I think many would need layaway, so that will be an option when the time comes. x)

    29. Tack! :3
I can't even find the words to describe the frustrating joint making journey ... xD I have rebuild the knees at least 8 times, and changed the angle of the thighs even more times, to make him stand and to make his centre of gravity right. the tail is a project of it's own as well ... any way. He works and I will only go over minor derails before sending him of later on.:3nodding:

    30. Good luck!
I can't imagine the stress of sending of an original sculpture.

    31. oh i am so happy for you that you have sent him off!if i was doing this, i would probably cry huge tears to see my hard work going out in the mail. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!! aaaand to ramunder!

    32. May he travel safely!

    33. He did! :)

I have no trust in the Swedish post office so I paid DHL a ridiculus amount, and he travled safely within 6 days, the caster got him today :)

Yeah, I was really nervous at first but DHL have really impressed me so I felt really safe all the way :)

    34. Woah, I just saw this again after so many years and I am blown away by his perfection! What a true work of art, your love for him really shows, all his muscles and bony structures, amazing posture, his absolutely unique concept and it all came together so well, congrats! I am so impressed :D

    35. Any news from the caster? I know that the world situation has slowed down many, but hopefully things are going well.

    36. Hello, sorry for not seeing this sooner.:aheartbea
