Contest Triathlon Round I: Dress for Success

Aug 1, 2017

    1. @Uminari awww but congratulations on finishing!
hope i can finish this last piece tonight and keep up the hard work everyone I'm super exited to see everyone's outfits.

    2. Ahhh I'm so sad! Every year something keeps me from entering the triatholon and of course this year is no exception. I have to skip the first round since I'm across the country on a roadtrip for the entire duration. T.T I'll look forward to everyone's entries instead. I can't wait to see what everyone manages to pull off. Good luck to everyone!

    3. I'm starting late but I think I might have enough materials at home to actually create something! *keeps fingers crossed*

    4. There seems to be some confusion as to how you submit the photos in the correct way for your entry. Images for the triathlon will need to be uploaded to DoA, unlike other places on the forum. Here is a quick guide on how you upload the photos to DoA and get them submitted the correct way.

      Untitled-1.png

      Start by clicking "Upload Image".

      Untitled-2.png

Find and select all of the images you want to include in your entry. Make sure they are at most 600 pixels wide and JPG format (this is very important!).

      Untitled-3.png

Upload them by dragging them to the window or click "Open".

      Untitled-4.png

Wait for them to upload. Once they are uploaded, you will find the images in a list just below the window.

      Untitled-5.png

Now, make sure you place the cursor where you want the image to end up. Click "Full Image" to insert the image.

      Untitled-6.png

Tada! Image is placed in your entry. Make sure you add all the images and fill out the form, then click "Create Thread" and you are all done!

      Hope that helps! :)

    5. Thanks for info about how to do the photos - that'll save a last minute panic!

Eeh!! Despite the... ambition of my project (and my utter newbness when it comes to all things sewing related), it's beginning to look like I will actually get finished in time, and it will actually resemble my initial plan. Whilst I've still got quite a lot of work ahead of me, I think I'm over the hump now.

Really really looking forward to seeing everyone else's entries, and to be honest the talk afterwards once we're allowed to. This time I'll actually understand at least a little bit of what people are talking about!

    6. I had purchased some fabric quite some time ago, but never removed the price tag from it. Would it be acceptable to have a picture of said fabric with the cost on it?

    7. If you owned it prior to the start of this Triathlon it does not count towards the $20 amount.

    8. Question: If I have a part of the outfit that obscures the back, should I take a photo of that and when it's moved away and combine them into one? Or is only one photo allowed? If it's the latter, which photo should I choose?

    9. I would like to know this as well :)

    10. If you are worried you will have to choose a prize you don't want, please only enter for fun. :)

You will need one photo which clearly displays the back of the completed outfit, however you can display whichever parts of the outfit you'd like in the detail image (which can be a collage).

    11. I've submitted my entry but there was some confusion about it.
There is another button next to ''Create a Thread'' - it says ''Add a Poll''. I just ignored it as it wasn't mentioned before.
But now it's bugging me - did I have to choose it?

    12. Nope, that's just there because the forum software thinks it should be -_-

    13. Thank you, I was starting to get worried about this! It seems to me though that I can see the thread open as if it was just a normal thread in the forum. Should it be so? I mean, is it only visible to me and would my username be automatically replaced by the pseudonym?

    14. At the moment it is only visible to you and the moderation team. When the entries go up for voting your name won't be on it. :)

    15. That's great, thank you so much for the clarification! :)

    16. May we use a doll for the triathlon that does not already have face-up and blushing?

    17. Yes :)

    18. UNNNGG...... pondering whether I'm good enough to bother entering :eusa_pray

    19. If there is doubt, there is also hope :D

      I'd say GO FOR IT!
You got nothing to lose, and a lot you can get to learn in the process

    20. I'm certainly awful at most aspects of sewing - I'm thinking of it as a learning experience mostly, and an opportunity to potentially get an awesome set of clothes/accessories for a certain doll of mine out of the experience.

The rather distant chance of a prize/the event nature is just added motivation to actually get going on the craft projects.

    21. Omg it seems like it took me forever, but I'm finally done and I'll be able to take pictures for my submission tomorrow
      :cheer:dance:cheer

    22. I made my pictures yesterday. They look a little bit boring with the doll standing on our table with the white wall in the background but I thouht this would be the best to show only my sewing skill. And I realised its pretty hard getting a doll standing if you dont see what her legs doing :XD:

Well today I going to ask my boss if I can get a day free next week. Im at my parents place from sunday for 2 days because its my nephews birthday but as nice this is it left me only 3 days for sewing and photographing

      • So I totally forgot about this so guess what I'll be doing all week now>> I'm legit sitting at work sketching, thinking about my fabric stash and what's around my house. Lol

    23. wohooo my entry is made :XD:

    24. I have a another quick question! So if the due date is the 12th, does that mean our entry needs to be in before the 12th or on the 12th? (I'm hoping to get my entry in before, but just in case...)

    25. Inching towards completion... It's slow progress, but I think the main item should be finished this evening, ready for finishing touches to everything else tomorrow, and photos on Friday.

Just hope we get some OK weather - it's been raining here all week, the light has never gotten up beyond "gloomy".

    26. You can submit your entry any time but it has to be in by the cut off time on the 12th. We aren't accepting late entries so it's usually best to try for a little earlier in case you have problems getting your entry submitted (like the power goes out, technology issues, you forget to submit an image etc)

    27. It's probably a stupid question, but is it ok to combine photo #5 and #6 together?

I bought so little I made just one photo of the material bought and the receipt.

    28. I second Lawrichai's question! I've bought some small things and have been taking pictures of the receipts and items together planning to crop them apart, but squishing them together would be much easier!

    29. Eek I'm so excited, I'm nearly done and ready to take pictures! I spent the whole day working on it so now bedtime for me. Also curious about the mashup photos, because that would be much easier.

And one other thing, is it okay to make a collage of any used/recycled items (or new)? I took a picture of everything I thought I'd use but then forgot a few things - so I took a picture of just the items I forgot. Hopefully, that's okay! :sweat

    30. Woo, Triathlon-specific face-up completed, and only one thing left to sew on the outfit itself... Very nearly ready to do photos.

I think I'll either be uploading my entry this evening or tomorrow morning all going to plan.

    31. question: Is there a way to go back to check on our submission once it's sent?

    32. Once we have processed your entry you cannot access it.
If you have any concerns about the entry post in Ask the Moderators. :)

    33. Oops i did it again. Last year i threw myself of the top of a 3 meter ladder trying to photograph my entry. This year i cut up my finger and had to get 2 stitches ( and it's actually the 2nd time i have done that for a bjd competition the first time was about 10 years ago or so for dolliverse) competitions are jinxed for me and i guess i can put blood and tears to the ingredient list ( but i don't have a receipt for it, lol :)... )

    34. I asked this too, it is okay to use collages for both the recycled and new items photos!

I'm still wondering if we can combine our new items and reciepts pictures though.

    35. @KiyoshiSenshi Thanks so much! I blame long hours for missing that post!

Ironically, the item I bought ended up not being used because of difficulties. I'll still use the item for future BJD projects though. Should I include it in my entry anyway? Edit: I reread the front, and it says used so since I didn't use them for the actual entry I won't include it.

    36. Well, I finally finished my entry and am planning to do all my pictures and submit my entry tomorrow! It took me over 27 hours, but it's done, and I'm super glad, wow. It was a lot of work, physically and mentally. :XD:

    37. Sadness. I'm nowhere near done and I'm heading out of town right after work Friday. :(
Ah well, it was still fun working on this and my doll will finally have an outfit at least. Plus I'm still looking forward to seeing other user's enteries :)

    38. Well today is photo day.

Really looking forward to seeing everyone's entries, and as already mentioned - the time when we're allowed to talk about them!

My doll is looking mighty pleased to have some clothes, even if certain aspects of my outfit didn't work out quite as I intended but I am a complete tailoring novice, so I think I've done quite well for a first attempt. (I suspect I will be working on improving things once this is all over, or potentially... even making a key piece of the whole outfit all over again after picking people's brains!)

    39. That's fine, just make sure the photo of the receipt is big enough that we are actually able to make out what it says on it :)

And a small reminder/heads-up sort of thing. If you do finish ahead of time, it's always good to submit your entry as soon as you are able to. Be sure you double-check everything and if you have questions, please ask them beforehand. If you submit your entry ahead of time it is possible to correct things(by either editing your entry if it hasn't been processed yet or by asking in Ask the Moderators), so please keep that in mind everyone!

Once the deadline is up, the entries will need to be processed for the voting and that means any error in it may disqualify your entry.

    40. Eep - entry submitted. I really hope I did everything right there!

    41. Phew finished mine last night. Going to take my pictures tomorrow morning as the lighting in my apartment sucks by the time I get home from work and i want at least some decent lighting :P

    42. Alright, so due to a huge stuff up this year I've not been able to start working on my entry until now. I have read through this thread for potential answers to my question - do I have to make shoes for this outfit, or are pre-bought ok as long as they suit?

    43. I used pre-bought shoes and included them in my collage of recycled material =^.^=
I thought it was a "logic" way to include them in.
      =^.^=

    44. You don't neee to make shoes as long as the ones you have work with the outfit.

    45. So I'm about to submit my entry. I've asked all the questions I thought I had and followed all the rules for submission, but I'm still terrified that I'll overlook something that will disqualify me without my knowledge... Can we ask in Ask the Mods for someone to look over our entry? I don't want to be a bother, and I'm probably just being paranoid, but being disqualified over something I didn't know about and could change with some heads up would be so upsetting. :...(

    46. If you submit the entry before the deadline we will contact you if there are any issues.
If you wait until the last minute, we won't have time to check your entry and give you time to correct anything.

We don't have the resources to go over entries prior to submission but if you followed the size and format rules and took the correct images you should be fine. :)

    47. Okay, thank you so much! I should be submitting within an hour, so hopefully everything is ship shape. :kitty1

    48. Eep! I did it! We've been having internet issues the past day or so, so I'm glad I managed to submit it all before the deadline! G'luck to everyone!

    49. I wonder how many participants there will be :) even though I have been here for 7-8 years it is my first time paying attention and being a part of this celebration :D

      • x 1
    50. I'm in much the same boat! This my first time participating even though I've been on DoA for quite a while, and I'm interested to know how many other entries there will be as well!

(I also submitted my entry this morning and wow, I'm so excited! I can't wait to see everyone else's outfits and hear about the next challenges too. What a fun time!)

    51. I've been here for years but it's my second attempt only. I think it was somewhere around 2010 when I was participating in a couple of contests, and later I had a break from bjds for a few years (although I never stopped looking at them online!). I came back in 2015 and am happy to finally try my luck again! :celebrate

    52. I finally submitted my entry! Looking forward to seeing everyone's dollies! This is gonna be fuuuuun~!

    53. Can we use props that we didn't make?

    54. This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering why the submitted photos have to be so small. Is it to save space on the servers or something? (It doesn't really matter either way, but the low resolution that results made my heart [and the small details on my entry] hurt a little bit. :sweat Especially since I'm used to my photos being 2000px on the longest side. I guess I'm just high mantinence when it comes to photo quality! :XD:)

      • x 1
    55. Thank you! You've saved me a lot of time!

    56. So it was with mine but they show greatly on the collage

      My photos are usually big

    57. Work and other related things have been keeping me from being able to work on my entry until the day before it's due, but I'm getting it done!! The big parts are finished, tomorrow before submission deadline will be all about adding details. I'm super excited~

    58. Ahahaha...well I'm boned. Can I pull out a last minute miracle? We shall see.

    59. in my country, we already have the 12th XD But I suppose this gives me extra time on round 2. I was afraid to not making my second entry in time because I go to my parents for 3 days but there shouldn´t be an announcement for the new theme until monday (in my country). Gooood.
My boss gave me a day extra free but wanted to see my entry :XD:.
