    2. Lucky or Unlucky? Lucky!

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

My doll is a fancy fella, but a suit would not have been a good fit either. So instead he got a pair of tights, a fitted shirt, a gorgeous, fluffy coat /w WORKING pockets! and a pair of golden glasses! Concept is "look rich, act poor" cus it, sadly, fits his character.

      Materials used:

Golden jewellery wire for the glasses, black roset fur for the coat, plus satin lining. Black stretch jersey for the fitted shirt and jersey for the leggings.

    7. Lucky or Unlucky? unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
A mysterious lady attends a ball with the single mission to eliminate the most powerful and influential person in the room, the queen. Though she mingles with the crowd, it would take only one observant onlooker to notice the true power in the room, that one lady who holds life and death in a single drop.

I decided to go with a fantasy style combining different eras in which power was very important. The dress is after the regency style with an empire waist that flares out at the bottom. The belt with skirt and the vanguards are inspired by ancient Rome. Lastly the collar is a nod at one of my favourite historical queens, Queen Elisabeth I.

      Materials used:
Old dress, rubber gloves, cardboard, pantyhose and leftovers in my fabric stash.

    9. Lucky or Unlucky? Lucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
Adela has that kind of face that goes perfectly with any fashionable dress from centuries ago. This time she is a Rococo lady wearing Robe a la francaise (a Sack-gown) with wide hat covered with lace and ribbons, and rose-bud wrist bands. She's definitely a lucky girl, and I'm a lucky doll collector having such a lovely lady at home.

      Materials used:
Cotton, ribbons, lace, beads, threads, a piece of old curtain (perfect for the transparent hat base), snap fasteners, pins, a piece of old Christmas decoration (two rose buds on the hat). And just in case anybody's wondering what the sock has to do with it - I used it to bulk up the skirts! All the materials are either leftovers from my previous sewing projects, or bits and pieces gathered through the years. The threads I used belonged to my mother - they must be over 30 years old now!

    10. Lucky or Unlucky? unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

The goal of this dress to make her an outfit worth an elven princess. It was supposed to be fancy but on the same side somehow resemble a connection to nature and show her calm personality. The dress consists out of a layered petticoat, the silver underdress and the dark blue overdress. Her crown is made of fabric roses. As base and inspiration, I used a semi historic Italian renaissance pattern to differ from the commonly used style from lord of the rings and similar (plus I love historic dresses).

      Materials used:

      - thread in blue, black and white
      - dark blue high-quality taffeta
      - silver jacquard
      - white cotton
      - gold eyelets
      - tulle
      - silver lace

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

    13. Lucky or Unlucky? Lucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
When i think powerful, i tend to think viking. So i tried to design an outfit reminiscent of a viking queen. Albeit, a bored one.
The entire outfit was hand sewn, including the embroidery.

      Materials used:
Faux leather, black cotton shirt, blue terry cloth, orange suede string, elastic, gold chain, acorn tops, gold paint, light blue/gold/brown threads, liquid stitch and fray check.
The leather, shirt and terry cloth were recycled and the rest of the materials were already on hand or scavenged (acorn tops).

    14. Lucky or Unlucky? Unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

Iset: Goddess of Love. Some say the mirror atop her diadem is the source of all her powers…Let’s hope it never breaks! ;)

When I think about a powerful outfit, armor, leather, and metal come to mind. I used white vinyl to make this albino beauty a hip-hugging dress. The harness is made from jewelry chain and an old earring. I used the other earring, a mirror, and a crescent moon charm to make the crown. I literally drew the shoes and armor with my 3D Printing Pen. That was the funnest part! I then accented the shoes with glitter and crystals, and added some spikes and jewels to the armor.

      Materials used:

Vinyl, 3D Pen Filament, Chain, Earrings, Crystals, Jewels, Moon Pendant, Glitter, Ribbon, Mirror, Zipper

    15. Lucky or Unlucky? UNLUCKY

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

Chica is a fashion model, originally Africa-born, was LUCKY enough to be noticed and invited to the most prestige runways. Today she lives in Paris and works worldwide. She is aware like nobody else that the right look can decide about your whole life. She turned from a poor scared girl to a well-educated self-confident and famous woman thanks to presenting expensive high-quality art outfits. The crazy abstract flower dress will stay in her mind forever as a great symbol – this is her first Vogue cover photoshoots! (it’s a pity the date of photoshoots is 13th, she believes in bad luck of 13)

I formed the dress with crepe paper and hot glue only directly on doll’s body, using the technique of giant paper flower making, then cut it through, shaped and wear again. The same technique for the head piece, just in smaller scale.

      Materials used:
hot glue / wire / foil / ribbon / scissors / crepe paper (pieces left after prepearing flower decorations for my friend's wedding)

    16. Lucky or Unlucky? unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

A union-jack frockcoat that utterly embodies the revelling in past glories, decadent decay that Bowie saw in the Britpop movement of the 1990s. The outfit is over the top in all the ways it's possible to be so.

"Paddy, who's been wearing Miranda's clothes?"

It's a bjd-sized version of the distressed Union Jack frock-coat Alexander McQueen made for David Bowie in the 1990s. (Complete with the same level of muck, and general wear-and-tear that McQueen gave the original!) Bowie always looked completely in love with the thing, so I thought I'd try my hand at giving my MNM version of him his own version of it.

      Materials used:

      1 old red tablecloth,
      1 large-offcut of a piece of (horrible) bunting/flag material,
      1 old black t-shirt,
a 1/4 of a pair of worn-out work trousers (had already used the leg sections for something else),
      lace offcuts

This outfit is a set of ceremonial armor, accoutrements, and weapons. The majority of materials are natural, as the wearer does not have access to many modern materials (besides the bottles he's salvaged on his various expeditions away from his clan).

      Materials used:

    21. Lucky or Unlucky?
      Lucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
When does a lady feel most powerful? When she is loved, pretty, and in the case of this lady, when she's on the battlefield.
When thinking of powerful and beautiful looking women in anime, to me the most notable was Lady Caterina from Trinity Blood (by extension sister Esther as well) as well as all the Sabers from the Fate franchise, so much inspiration was drawn from that. But the character is more lightweight and an angel, so less armor and embellishments were in order.
With the white colors representing purity, the gold representing her self worth and the red representing the tragedy and love of a day that was both the luckiest and unluckiest day of her life.
Many of the symbols on the clothes represent something, while others are merely decorative, and the veil is supposed to represent her devotion to her beloved, seeing herself as his bride to be.
She takes to the battlefield to try and rid the world of its evils, so at least a sword was necessary in her arsenal.
The outfit consists of shoes, rapier, a petticoat, skirt, dress, corset, belt, neck piece and a veil attached to a crown.
So this outfit is supposed to be elegant and regal, with a few elements that hint to her past, her lover and the battlefield.

      Materials used:
White satin, stretch poly cotton, poly cotton, chiffon, tulle, vinyl
      Red, pink and gold ribbons
      Red lace
      Red, gold and silver paint.
      Red fabric marker and gloss.
Zipper with hook and eye fastener
      Gold curtain tassels
Half pearls, beads and jewels, gold sequins
      Craft foam
      Chain
      Polymer clay

      Cardboard
      Elastic

    23. Lucky or Unlucky? Lucky

Briefly describe your entry's concept: Where I'm from, there's a slang often used by women when referring to other women to say they're looking good, which is to say they're powerful. So the first word associations I made with the theme were feminine and sexy, without going overboard and ending up vulgar. I found this fabric in my stash and the idea for the dress just popped into my mind immediately. Out of all my dolls, this was the one that matched the word associations I made best. She has a deep magic connection with plants and prefers to walk barefoot whenever possible as it helps her feel their roots, so I made sure not to give her any shoes but did add a detail to one of her ankles so they wouldn't look too bare. The dress is sexy without being uncomfortable to wear, and the colors remind me of the very last moments of the sunset before night falls, when most of the sky is already a dark blue but there's still a hint of color in the horizon. It's the kind of dress she'd wear to a fancy ball, I think, and she'd feel on top of the world in it.

Materials used: Ombré sheer fabric and a strip of rhinestones, as well as a sewing machine and thread. All already owned before the challenge.

      Lucky!
      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
In order to create an outfit to make my doll feel powerful, I chose the concept of a mighty Egyptian goddess-- with all her femininity. In order to add more power, I also chose the concept of a military officer-- which tends to have more masculine traditions associated with it. I want my bjd to associate her femininity with power and authority rather than meekness and passiveness.

    30. Lucky or Unlucky? Lucky

Briefly describe your entry's concept: I based the concept on Persephone from Greek mythology, not as a kidnapped nymph deceived into eating the pomegranate (as if she didn't know what she was doing!) but in her role as Queen of the Underworld - you can't get much more powerful than that. Her tunic is a traditional Greek doric chiton, but not in traditional colours because I wanted a more univeral sense of power, which is also why her cloak is hooded and not a traditional greek style.

Materials used: The chiton is made from a recycled sari and the cloak from a t-shirt with bias binding, ribbon and gold trim. A traditional chiton is fastened with brooches, but I used 2 ornate buttons with loops of thread and they also hold the chain for her cloak in place. Her staff is a large twig with gold paint, silver glitter and microbeads and the pomegranates are made from polymer clay. Her crown, jewellery, hip belt and the chain for her cloak were human size costume jewellery that I broke up and remade to be doll-sized with some additional clasps and jump rings.

    31. Lucky or Unlucky? lucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
I wanted to create a dress worthy of the powerfull queen or a goddess, with beads and laces which I love and collect. It's an outfit which could be worn by a fairy tale heroine, attracting attention not only with rich embellishment but also with an airy feeling.

      Materials used:

      - a piece of turquoise silk; bought ~15 years ago (actually a part of an Indian dress I found second-hand back then)
      - white tulle; a few irregular pieces left after shortening a wedding dress
      - pieces of white lace; two different types, also a remnant
      - white cotton fabric (from my closet)
      - wooden sticks
      - beads
      - hooks, elastic, satin ribbon, acrylic paints, EVA foam
all materials are remnants after my past project, thus I didn't spend a single penny on my contest entry

Briefly describe your entry's concept: Finally able to get her own ship she is getting ready to sail the seas as a captain... The world is hers to explore and treasures await.

Materials used: I only used things that I had laying around. I tend to have a large supply of fabrics and do dads of projects not completed. The top, bottom and head scarf are all stretchy materials the belt is ribbon meant for binding quilts. I made the necklaces using beads and thread. I used a needle and thread to sew things together. On her belt is a couple keys (which were intended for scrapbooking) that open a chest that always stays locked up and away from others as well as her log. I already had her boots and fur wig are not made by me.

    37. Lucky or Unlucky? Unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
In accordance with my doll's character, I wanted to create an outfit appropriate for a dark sorcerer! My guiding thoughts were essentially, "dark, powerful, and just the slightest bit seductive." Something dark in color scheme but with some eye-catching colors. I was going for an outfit that would make the doll look like an antagonist at first glance. I also wanted to have several draped elements in order to minimize the amount of sewing needed since I have no sewing machine.

      Materials used:
Fabric (black fleece, 2 satin-type fabrics in purple and blue), hot glue, nail polish, fabric paint, jewelry wire, craft foam, black sharpie marker, buttons, small knicknacks like the metal piece on the chest, needle + thread, nylon stockings, black dye (meant for hair but used on the nylon), rubber bands

    38. Lucky or Unlucky? unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:

She had always dreamed of space. Not those technical marvels of man floating in the dulcet waters of our atmosphere but worlds of high fantasy and arcane science. She imagined herself in gaudy glittering getups reminiscent of comic book characters and movie stars. The girl was sure she belonged to the cosmos, that there she could do anything.

Little narrative blurbs aside... My doll is almost ten years old I think! I bought her secondhand on this forum, I fell in love with the dreamy expression and older, slim Dream of Doll body. I wanted to make clothing I think she daydreams about and that compliments these features, the kind of outfit she could rule the world in (or the universe?)
I used wire to make it appear she was floating in the style shot.

      Materials used:

(I laid out more materials for the photos than I actually used)

Recycled from my crafting stash | Blue green Tulle from an old dress, holographic spandex from old leggings, white elastic, fill yourself ornament from last christmas, silver and gold plastic bottle top, wires, purple plastic tube, glitter

Bought at Michaels | Gold sculpy

    39. Lucky or Unlucky? Unlucky

Briefly describe your entry's concept: My goal was sassy simplicity and subtle flashiness. I wanted something that echoed the pop of colors on her favorite shoes without being too busy.

Materials used: A recycled knit hat, gold brads, a dismembered arm warmer, multi colored tinsel ribbon, and basic tools( needle, thread, hot glue to reinforce the brad accents). Shoes were previously bought, everything else was taken from my craft stash or recycled from another item.

    45. Lucky or Unlucky? unlucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
When I heard the theme was power, my brain immediately went to the future. So, this is Rian, ruler of the Wasteland Ghosts, a group of post apocalyptic warriors out to start a new land together. They have seen many battles and trials, but they have stood tall and they will stand on top in the end. Inspired by a quote I found: "They are the Ghosts, haunting the ruins of the civilization their parents had destroyed." (Terry Brooks's Armageddon's Children)

      Materials used:
Wow uh... a lot? I used chop stick wrappers a lot, actually none of the poster board which surprised me, old tights, the lid to one of my sharps, cups for details, clay to make parts smoother (unbaked and had to have baby oil used to make it soft again, soda cans for the wrist guards, water bottles for most of the structure, parts of a hat my mom lent me, and parts of my brother's old knee pads. Also, way too much mod podge and paint dear goodness... anything I didn't list here I didn't end up using even if it was in the materials photo.

Yep! Took a lot of literal blood, sweat, and tears, but I'm overall proud of my entry especially for a newbie to outfit making like myself.
Was this entry made specifically for DoA's 13th Anniversary?
Yes! I was so worried I wouldn't finish in time but I barely made it :'0
Are you competing for the prize, or are you competing just for fun?
Yes! I'm hoping to compete for the prize.
Have you read the 2017 anniversary and prize eligibility rules and do you agree to follow them?

    48. Lucky or Unlucky? (lucky/unlucky) lucky

      Briefly describe your entry's concept:
A woman can display strength and power by dressing effeminately or practically. I have tried to do both with my outfit. Withdoll Emma's outfit is undoubtedly feminine, but does not sacrifice mobility or function to do so. I believe her outfit is appropriate for a princess or a warrior.

Materials used: Imitation leather, cloth, linen, silver-plated wire, metal button, metal beads, leather twine.
