      Materials:
seed beads, decorative beads, and wire

      How was the wig made?
I strung beads on wire for the front part of the wig so it could be easily styled and then on thread for the back so it would drape nicely. Then I sewed all the strands down on a wig cap laying like hair would.

      What was your concept?
I had a lot of seed beads on hand and realized that beads strung on wire could do lots of poses and positions, making the wig stylable even though it isn't fiber or fur.

      Materials:
Curling package ribbon, a sock, and hot glue

      How was the wig made?
      1. Cut toe of sock off to make the wig cap. Trim around ears, just as you would see a real wig cap.
      2. Run a line of hot glue around inside edge of cap to provide stability.
      3. Mark the spot on the cap where you want the pony tail.
      4. Measure off strips of curling ribbon to go to the mark you just made, then make the ribbon about 6 inches longer. Cut many pieces of ribbon, and don't let them tangle.
      5. Carefully put a dot of hot glue on the end of the underside of a piece of ribbon. Attach to the underside of the cap, so that when the ribbon is pulled back into the ponytail, it will cover the raw edge of the cap. Repeat with remaining ribbon until ribbon pieces go all around the edge ONLY of the cap, facing out (away from the ponytail mark). Align ribbon so that you can pull it neatly toward the mark you made for the ponytail. It is helpful to start in the front section and work to each side toward the back.
      6. Carefully gather the ribbon together for the ponytail, making sure it remains flat against the wig cap. A line of hot glue to hold the ribbon down is helpful. Tie the ponytail, not too tight,so that the ribbon is flat against the wig cap.
      7. Now the fun part. Cut more strips of ribbon; about 5 inches long, and pull the bottom sides of the strips against your scissors blade to make the ribbon curl. Place a dot of hot glue on one end of a curly strip, and fasten it under the edge of the wig cap, starting in the front. Arrange the curl against the ribbon already on the cap, so that it lays along the head, and use the hot glue to fasten the other end down by the ponytail. Repeat all around the wig cap, front and back.
      8. Cut a few shorter pieces of ribbon, curl them on your scissors, and hot glue them on to make side curls, bangs, ringlets, whatever you like. Make sure to glue these curls on UNDER the curls previously placed, so that ends don't show.
      9. Now take the long strips of ribbon in the ponytail, and pull them, one at a time, against the blade of your scissors to make them curl. A nice effect can also be made by leaving some of the strands uncurled.
      10. Arrange curls as desired, and use small spots of hot glue to hold curls that won't stay put.

      You're Done!

      What was your concept?
I have always loved those curly ribbon streamers that you can buy to put on gift bags. I thought that something like that would look cute as hair on a doll. The colorful ribbon wig would look good with a party dress or a costume.

I made a wig cap out of hand made felt, then added merino roving to it with a felting needle. i styled the hair with a comb and scissors and lightly needle felted it all in place.

      What was your concept?
I have seen a lot of cool pictures of girls with scene hair. It's a look I like a lot.

      Materials:
sisal rope (twisted), stretch foil, invisible tape, white/beige threads, ribbon

      How was the wig made?
First, a custom wig cap was made out of stretch foil (using invisible tape for extra firmness). The sisal rope was cut into pieces of about 10-15cm each. Then, each of the individual pieces were sown onto the cap using white/beige threads. After finishing sowing, each of the sisal pieces were untangled and 'furried' to look more natural. In the end, a simple ribbon was used to create a ponytail.

      What was your concept?
This being the first time to ever create a wig, it took some thinking beforehand. It was actually my mom who came up with the idea of using sisal rope (while I first had something else in mind). It was a real challenge to think up a real coupe with this material. First, a dreadlock look was a nice idea, but then we figured out that when the rope was untangled and 'furried' it created a really nice and natural look. It was then that we decided we went for an innocent, yet flowing hairstyle.

      Materials:
yellow pipe cleaner, yellow sheer fabric, toe of pantyhose for cap, glue gun, elastic, yellow thread

      How was the wig made?
Sewed a thin hem along the top of the yellow fabric, then cut it in thin strips up to the hem. Then sewed the hem of the yellow fabric to the stocking cap, the first two going down, the rest going up. Took three pipe cleaners and glued sheer fabric to them & twisted them to make a flower decoration to imitate hair loops in back. Used thread to attach them to eachother & the wig itself. The green butterfly accents are just craft clips.

      What was your concept?
I wanted a bright, fae-like wig to complement my doll. I imagine her as a forest elf, and needed a bright happy wig to match.

      Materials:
nylon stocking toe, rainbow ribbon, thread

      How was the wig made?
I cut the toe from a white nylon stocking. I used my sewing machine to sew ribbon lengths together like wefts. From there I sewed the wefts to the cap, again with my sewing machine. Once I had a sufficiant amount of ribbon on the cap, I began to slice some of the ribbon giving the wig a variety of ribbon size. there are both thick and thin peices, making the wig fun to style and play with.

      What was your concept?
I was trying to stay away from a stationary hat like wig. I wanted something I could style and that I would use, even after the contest. So I chose my favorite wig style and created a fun rainbow ribbon version of it.

Satin and Organza Ribbons, panty-hose, clear tape, needle and thread

      How was the wig made?
I taped together small sections of ribbon to create "wefts" that I then sewed together onto the panty-hose wig cap. At the end, I diagonally cut each ribbon's end to taper them.

      What was your concept?
My concept was based on the outfit she is wearing in the pictures. I wanted to create something whimsical and flowing, and the iridescent ribbons I used added a certain shine to the fairy-like theme.

I then rebuilt the bird's nest conforming it to the shape of the doll's head. I applied loose feathers that are long and black to the twigs in the nest to simulate tendrils of hair.

Wig cap: elastic, binding tape, old tee-shirt, thread, “Hair”: peacock feathers, beads, hair comb accessory, cardboard, thread, glue, old tee-shirt

      How was the wig made?
I made a wig cap and then sewed whole feathers on the front of the wig to make bangs. I then made rows of hair by gluing individual strands of feathers onto strips of tee-shirt and then sewed them on to the back to create hair. I then made a pocket for the hair accessory which I had embellished with feathers; this makes the hair comb removable. I finished the wig off with beading.

      What was your concept?
I was inspired in large part by ancient Egyptian wigs, as well as Spanish hair combs.

      Materials:
sock, Fimo, fake pearls, rhinestones, hot glue

      How was the wig made?
I made a wig cap out of the toe of a sock to start. Then I made thin little snakes of Fimo for each piece of hair, then styled them into sections. I baked each section on a ball of aluminum foil so that it would have the right curve, then hot glued it to the cap. After I made the hair parts, I made a bunch of roses and little balls and hot glued those with the pearls and rhinestones. The rhinestones came from broken costume jewelry.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to make a hard, sculptural wig that still was dynamic and had a lot of movement. I wasn't really striving for realistic hair texture; it was more about getting the loops and twists to suggest the way slightly curly hair might look falling out of an up-style.

My goal was to make it fairly monochromatic but with some slight hints of gold. The wig's eventual owner is Versai, my friend's regal School C... so I wanted to make a wig that would suit him and would work with the rest of his Rococo wardrobe.

700 ft of assorted jewelry chain and pendants

      How was the wig made?
I started by cannibalizing several necklaces...and quickly learned that the 7 I had would not be nearly enough chain to fill the nylon stocking toe I used as a wig cap. I had to order bulk necklace chain to finish the wig! Each chain is between 4 and 6 inches...and a few of the pendants from the original necklaces I destroyed made it into the final design.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to make something that would look like dreadlocks...and be somewhat steampunk... Chain ended up being perfect!

      Materials:
Copper Wire, hot glue, pocket watch parts, candy wrapper, pantyhose wig cap, paint

      How was the wig made?
I spun the copper wire into a very tight coil. I then cut it to make individual links. I took those links and glued them together at angles to create the illusion of curls. After I had curls I glued them to a stocking wig cap. Once the curls were in place I glued individual links to fill in gaps and make it look more like real curls. The head band is made from the copper wire I did not turn into a coil with a candy wrapper draped over it it. The "bow" on the head band is parts from a pocket watch that I glued on to it. I then painted the headband to be a darker brown color and less shiny.

      What was your concept?
I was going for a mechanical feel, but I wanted it to look like real hair and not made from machine parts. I was also very inspired by the steampunk style.

Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic Yarn (brown and a little bit of pink), Elmers glue, beads, fabric for head cap, thread

      How was the wig made?
I first started by cutting the yarn to the right length and then I undid each of the strands of yarn (since it's a 4-ply) and ironed them out. I then hand sewed each strand of yarn onto the headcap that I made to fit the dolls head. After all of the strands of yarn were attached, I brushed and thinned it out to give the wig a more natural look and styled it (curls were set with elmers glue). I then added a headband made of seed beads and a hair band to go around the pony tail made with synthetic pearls and seed beads. :)

      What was your concept?
I wanted to make a girly wig-- I didn't decide on a style until I was done with sewing the strands of yarn on the headcap. But I knew I wanted to make curls :D

      Materials:
Pantyhose, polyester fiberfill, polyester ribbon, shredded pink polyester string, white cotton string, decorative blue pins and Tacky fabric glue.

      How was the wig made?
Well for starters I piled the fiberfill up high on the back of the head. Then I added a swooping bang by rolling the fiberfill into loose locks of hair and attaching them on the forehead area. I used this same process to add some detail to the taller part of the wig, by wrapping long locks of fiberfill around it and at its base. Then I used the shredded pink string to add some dimension to the looser parts of the hair (mostly by weaving it into the hair or winding it into small spirals). After that I took some white thread and wrapped it around long hunks of fiberfill, in order to be able to wrap the locks into tighter swirls to accent the the hair in a few places. All of this, of course, was attached to the main base of the wig (a wig-cap covered in a thin layer of the fiberfill) with the Tacky fabric glue. For the final touches I wove in several blue and pink ribbons and added the blue pins.

      What was your concept?
Well I was actually inspired by the polyester fiberfill! It was the only thing I had immediately on hand that I thought was an interesting material. Then that sort of giant, voluminous powdered wig style came to mind and I went from there!

      Materials:
Nylon, fray check, tassel ribbon, jersey (cut into ribbons), synthetic velvet (cut into ribbons), hemp thread, elastic

      How was the wig made?
I put the nylon on a stress ball (to sew and keep its shape) and tied off the end so that the ball was snugly in the toe of the nylon. Then I marked where I thought a hairline would be with a sharpie and went over it with fray-check. I mapped out where I would sew my rows then stitched on a row of tassel thread, then a row of jersey ribbon, a row of velvet, one of hemp, and so on until I was satisfied. When I was done, I cut along the hairline and stitched on an elastic band around the edge to keep this rather hefty wig snug.

      Next step: Acquire a doll.

      What was your concept?
I was sort of thinking about the hair in Michael Jackson's wig from "The Wiz" with a sort of Raggedy Ann/Goth twist.

I want to win the prize, and I'm putting the effort as if I were eligible, but sadly, the rules are quite clear about the join date *sadface*

      Materials:
Toe of a sock, glue, flower petals (silk)

      How was the wig made?
After much consideration I decided to use flower petals to create a one of a kind wig. I had to use silk flowers as the real ones would not live long enough for the photo shoot. I thought about the style of my wig and how much of the face i wanted to show. To create the wig I cut the toe out of a black dress sock for the wig cap. I then cut flower petels off and glued then to the sock in the pattern I had chosen to create the style of the wig. Making sure to cover the enitre surface as not to show the sock or glue.

      What was your concept?
My inspriation accually came for a sunflower I happend to walk by. I love flowers there shapes and color variations have inspired me on many projects. When I saw the petals shape and how the colors moved into different shades of yellow and burnt orange. I knew that would be me media.

      Materials:
knee high stocking, fabric glue, peacock feathers, needle & thread

      How was the wig made?
I started by cutting the elastic part of the knee highs and sewing it on top to create a wig cap. Then I cut each peacock feather to size and glued them in place to form a hair style.

      What was your concept?
I would have to say my friend's doll. He's wonderfully bitchy (I apologize if I'm not allowed to say that) and reminded me of a peacock for some reason. Since the idea came to, I also thought the colors on the feathers would be nice and the length of the feathers would do for long hair. Hope you like it too.

      Materials:
pantyhose, traditional batting (for quilt-making), thread, hairspray

      How was the wig made?
First I cut and fit the wig cap using the toes of white pantyhose, and then I covered it with a layer of batting.

For the side cornrows, I took five thin strips of batting and pinning it to the side of his head. After sewing down the ends (the ends near his face) I twisted each strip to form the cornrows, sewing them down when I was done.

For the dreads themselves I began by cutting the batting into strips of various lengths and widths. Then with a comb, I picked at the strips to fray them, and then further pulled them apart with my fingers, until the batting resembled a very loose, oblong piece of cotton fluff. Spraying the fluffy batting with hairspray, I roll it between my palms until it forms a nice compacted, double-ended dread. From there I bend the dread in half and sew the middle to the headcap with thread... two for one! Repeat the process until you're satisfied with the coverage.

      What was your concept?
My concept was to make a dreadlock wig styled in a cool Visual Kei/JRock inspired way! :D

Pleather for the wig cap, nylon and cotton craft cord of various types, jewelry chain, and jewelry wire.

      How was the wig made?
Made the cap to fit the doll's head, then sat and hand sewed each 'hair' on, mostly while looking at DOA. xD I picked out the weave of the cord I used for the bangs, to soften them, and pulled the hair into two pigtails, wrapping the jewelry wire around them to hold them in place.

      What was your concept?
I was going for a very goth-edged, Art Nouveau haute couture look, something that would fit right in on the runway or in an Aubrey Beardsley illustration, and would go with the faceup of the doll I chose to model it on. Plus, I just thought chains would look really cool as part of a wig. x3

      False Eyelashes, Feathers, A Sock

      How was the wig made?
I had a bag of blue feathers that had faded in weird places because I'd left them in the window. That is how the difference in colors were achieved. I cut of the tips (the non fuzzy part) of each feather and treated the pieces like they were chunks of hair. I used false eyelash glue to attach the feathers to the wig cap (sock). The false eyelashes were applied to create the spiky effect in the back. I glued them on in rows and then filled in the empty spaces with additional eyelashes.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to create a fun punk style wig. At first I just wanted to use eyelashes, but then I found my bag of feathers and I thought I could make an even more interesting wig using both. I like the combination of the soft feathers in the front and the spiky eyelashes in the back.

      Materials:
Long wood chips, a sock as wig cap, hotglue gun, scissors

      How was the wig made?
First I got a block plane and started to plane long wood chips from a piece of spruce. When I had enough I cut the end of a sock to make a wig cap, then I wrapped my doll's body into cloth and put a plastic bag over her head to prevent her from being damaged. I put the wig cap on her head and then started glueing. Starting with the curls in the front and back, then doing the fringe, the "beehive" and last but not least I added a ribbon on the fringe.

      What was your concept?
I've always thought that wood chips would make some nice curls, but I never had a chance to try making something out of them. This contest gave me encouragement to try something like this.
As I'm pretty much inspired by princess hairstyles, and himegyaru hair I thought making a nice hime wig would be a neat idea. And as a finishing touch I added a nice "Gaga bow".

Feathers: Ostrich, Turkey, Peacock; Tacky Glue; Pantyhose

      How was the wig made?
I used a few layers of pantyhose as the wig-cap and created the wig on the doll's head for accuracy. Starting at the very base of the neck, I added layers of feathers, working from the back bottom to the front top. All of the materials are securely in place, and the wig can be worn by almost any SD doll, as I tried in on several already. It took me about eight hours total, and it was a pleasure to make!

      What was your concept?
When they announced that the wig was to be made out of something that was not fur or wig fiber, I immediately starting thinking of what would sit on the head like hair and what wuld be easy to work with. I've worked with feathers in the past, but not on such a small scale, so I decided to give it a try. I went with black and peacock because the peacock is my favorite bird and the hues really went together. The black lets the blue and gold tones of the peacock shine brighter.

I made a wig cap of the stretch mesh and elastic. The tulle netting was then cut into strips using a rotary cutter. A gather was sewn down the center, then it was folded over at the center, lightly pressed, then a stay stitch was run along the edge to keep the net in place. A small amount of gather was pulled, and the net was sewn onto the wig cap by hand.

25 yds. gold lame 1/4 inch ribbon, 7 yds. gold lame 1/8 inch ribbon, gold embroidery floss, cotton thread and a standard mesh wig cap.

      How was the wig made?
The wig cap was too large, so I cut it down to fit the doll and used the piece I cut out as an extension at the back of the neck. The curls were formed by sewing the ribbon with the gold floss around an aluminum tube and a BBQ skewer. They were applied, then a weft of overlapping ribbon pieces was created and sewn around the rest of the wig. The ribbon was gathered at the top and more curls made for the ponytail. The ribbon ends were wrapped until they were compact and small and cut off short. Then the ponytail curls were attached and the whole ponytail was bound with the 1/8 inch ribbon.

      What was your concept?
I was looking for a Fantasy/Antiquity look. I looked at Greek, Roman, Cretan and Babylonian hair styles and then mixed it up.

      Materials:
Nylon net, craft foam, cotton thread, cotton wool, household string, felt, fimo modelling clay, craft glue

      How was the wig made?
First I sewed the wig cap, and then a cone of craft foam, which I then sewed to the cap to form a base for the wig. I then cut another strip of foam and sewed it to the front of the wig, to form a base for the fringe (bangs). I then shredded and rolled strands of cotton wool, which I glued to cover the foam and wig cap.

I created the side curls by rolling more cotton wool, then attaching them with a combintion of sewing and gluing.

Then it was time for decoration! I created the beehive out of string - winding the string around the lid of a hairspray can and covering it with glue - it hardened in the right shape, and then I could pull it off the can lid and cut an opening. I then glued it on the wig, stuffing in some yellow felt to suggest the honeycomb inside.

I cut more yellow felt in strips to form bows, which I glued to the back of the wig.

Finally, I made the bees! They were balls of yellow modelling clay, with black clay stripes, antennae and eyes. I cut out small wings of white felt and glued them on. So cute \o/ And then I glued the bees on the wig itself.

      What was your concept?
I was inspired by the enormous, fabulous eighteenth-century wigs worn by aristocratic ladies such as Marie Antoinette. Marie was famous for her huge beehive wigs with eccentric ornaments, such as one with a big ship atop it. My wig is both a joke - the beehive wig has a beehive on it! - and a homage to her style.

First, after many failed tries, I created a wig cap that fit my doll. Then I just went about sewing on one bead strand at a time. After several hours and puncture wounds later I finally had a completed wig.

      What was your concept?
The idea for this wig came about for two reasons: one, I wanted to create a wig that would fit my girl's personality, and two, I love making beaded jewelry and thought a wig made of glass beads would look interesting. Looks a little Jem and the Holograms, but I think it fits her taste quite well.

      How was the wig made?
This wig was extremely tedious to construct. I individually bent ~2000 sewing pins of various lengths into hair shapes, then pierced them through a wigcap that I had made out of suede. I had to use leather gloves when handling the wig in order to not puncture my skin. Next, I cut and shaped lengths of wire for the pigtails and glued them into metal bead caps I had sewn onto the wigcap. Lace was added for decoration.

      What was your concept?
I had an idea to create a wig that was made of metal fibers. I chose to use pins because of the tapered point. I wanted the wig to be a cute style and also something that I would enjoy using.

      Materials:
      satin ribbon

      How was the wig made?
I created wefts of alternating colors of ribbon and attached it to my wig cap using a combination of masking tape, glue, and thread.

      What was your concept?
Concept was peppermint candies. I originally was going to make stripey buns to go on the sides as well, but ran out of ribbon!

      What was your concept?
Short amount of time + materials on hand. I decided to do something multi tonal and textured but still mimicking real hair.

      Materials:
      ribbons, sock, glue, thread

      How was the wig made?
I created the wig pretty much in a basic way. I attached all the ribbons to the sock headcap either with glue or thread. Then I scooped it up and tied it off.

      What was your concept?
I tried to pick a basic design. Then when that looked horrible I decided to make it modeled after a couture wig I'd seen on a show. Of course that one was made out of hair...but it was still fun!

      Materials:
      Fabric, plastic bag

      How was the wig made?
First I sewed the base (used some old fabric I found at home). Then, I cut out the pieces of "hair" from a golden plastic bag. After that, I sewed those pieces to the base and used the scissors to make them curly.

      What was your concept?
Long , luxuriant, curly wig made of recicled materials.

      Materials:
Silver wire (.25mm, .4mm, .6mm), Crochet hook, pantyhose

      How was the wig made?
I crocheted a wigcap from .25mm silver wire, then hooked in pieces of silver wire of varied thickness one by one. I protected the head of the doll with a pantyhose cap to avoid damage.

      What was your concept?
      Heavy Metal!

      Materials:
plain fabric for the wig cap, patterned fabric for the hair, cotton and scissors.

      How was the wig made?
Firstly I made the wig cap so it would fit my doll perfectly. Then I cut out lots and lots of strips of fabric in different patterns. Then I hand sewed the strips onto the wig cap one at a time. Starting at the bottom going all the way around then starting a new layer until the whole wig cap was covered.

      What was your concept?
I was going for a rag doll look, something a little quirky.

      Materials:
Lots of Acryllic and glass eyes and eyeputty(posterbuddy)

      How was the wig made?
I kneed the eyeputty on the head as a wigcap. Then carefully pressing the eyes in the eyeputty. I've trying to make two buns with the eyes, but I got more bigger eyes then smaller, so it was quit a challenge. The wig became heavy too XD

      What was your concept?
Some kind of upside world idea. Instead of putting eyes in the head, putting the eyes on the head as a wig.

      Materials:
I used an assortment of ribbons, beads, little satin flowers, glue, and leftover t-shirt material for the wig cap.

      How was the wig made?
i made this wig by first making a wig cap out of an old t-shirt. Then I glued each ribbon to the wig cap piece by piece until it full. Then I styled it by holding some of the ribbons on the side up and gluing them in place. After that I made the little bead barette and put the flowers on as a finishing touch.^_^

      What was your concept?
I wanted the wig to look kind of a cross between colorful dreadlocks and and a rag doll's hair.

      Materials:
Fake grass, holographic foil (green and purple), green embroidery thread, fake white flowers, green organza fabric, pantyhose.

      How was the wig made?
First I made a wigcap from an old pair of pantyhose. I used a combination of thread and superglue to add the first bits of grass to the wig, as well as the first strips of holographic foil. I tied the first few strands together and bent them upwards, into a sort of ponytail. I then added more grass to the back of the wig, to make the tail part broader.I sew smaller bits of grass and holographic foil as well as strands of embroidery thread to the front part of the wig I cut the organza fabric into three strips, sew it together and braided it, attached it to the front of the wig with glue then curved it back and tied it to the grass tail.I then sew a flower in the inside of the curve of the braid. I took the strands of embroidery thread I sew to the sides on the front of the wig, as well as the ones in the middle of the front of the wig, and tied them back into a small ponytail, covering the base of the grass tail. I made hair decorations for the grass tail as well as the grass bangs using strips of holographic foil and clear tape.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to try to make something wild, untamed and natural looking out of synthetic materials and to express natures wild beauty. I was inspired by plant as well as the peacocks tail, but i didn't want to kill of real plants and feathers seemed to easy :)
