Triathlon Entries - WIGS!

Aug 3, 2010

    1. Challenge #1: WIG CRAFTING!

Fur and fiber wigs are great, but what about those other materials that are getting left out all the time? Lace, paper, macaroni noodle necklaces? What about them?

Your challenge for this week is to create a wig using alternative materials - no craft fur, mohair, or saran/kanekalon fiber.

Any other materials are all right! Feel free to explore unique materials and search for tutorials and techniques. The toes of pantyhose can make great wig caps! Show us your creativity.
Please remember, you are making a wig, not a hat.

      3. No posting entries or others photos that are recognizably from the same photo shoot until after judging is closed.

      4. Wigs must be modeled on on-topic dolls. The wig must be able to be worn on the doll's head. No merkins. :aheartbea

      ENTRY FORM HERE!
Do not PM Truffle or any of the other moderators with your entry; this form is the only way to enter.

If you are not interested in the top prize, please indicate this on your entry form. Do not accept the prize if you do not intend to keep it; it is unsportsmanlike to sell the prize after receiving it and anyone found doing this will receive a Marketplace suspension and be barred from future contests.

      Voting

Entries will be posted for member voting from August 9th-August 15th. Votes will be submitted and tallied privately using a new feature in the forum software. The totals will be made available on completion of voting.

Entries will be posted without the entrants' names to try to avoid this being a popularity contest. For this reason, we must stress that identifying your entry to others will lead to disqualification.
      Points and Prizes
This is the first task in the quest for Senior Delf Regen, listed in the first post. Please remember that you must complete all three challenges in order to qualify for the prize. You may join for fun at any time, but you can only win if you have participated in all sections.

Members will choose the best entries in three not-yet decided categories - so there will be three ways to earn points! Focus on making a great wig using creative materials and you'll be on your way to earning points no matter what categories are chosen!

The scoreboard will be updated in the opening post at the end of each segment.

      How was the wig made?
      paper, hot glue

      What was your concept?
I cut the paper into thin strips, glued each strip to the wigcap I made one by one, cut the wig shorter, and finally styled it which wasn't too hard.

      Materials:
Silk oak leaves from the floral section, orange jersey material for wig cap, fake berries, buttons, orange thread, sewing machine

      How was the wig made?
Made wig cap. Seperated the leaves by size and cut strips of material, then sewed three wefts with whole leaves. Then I cut several leaves in half lengthwise and used those for the upper weft because they're more flexible. I took one of the largest leave and cut it into about 10 smaller pieces for the crown of the wig and sexed them onto a narrow oval of fabric. I them sewed each weft one at a time from bottom to top. Finally, I cut one large leaf in half and stitched each piece to the temple parts of the wigcap to hang in front of the ears. It neaded something, so I added little green berries by attatching them to brass buttons and connecting them to the wig.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to create something fanciful, but that still looked like hair and not a weird hat or bonnet. I wanted it to drape loosely with a wild, pixie kind of look. I thought autumn oak leaves would make a great Greenman-ish look.

      Materials:
Foam, hot glue, hemp, tape, ribbon, beads, scissors

      How was the wig made?
I protect the head with the tape first, to make it easy to come off and pull of when completed. I made a foam base around the head, then cut the foam into oval shapes, layering it and gluing it down, like some would a wig so it wouldn't look flat. Rinse and repeat! ♥

      What was your concept?
I wanted it to be a long, straight wig, but I wasn't sure if foam could pull it off. So I decided to prove myself wrong. ยฆD The wig looks pretty good layered--now that I've done it, I'd recommend it for cosplay BJD owners who are trying to pull off styles like Super Saiyan Goku.

      Materials:
Fabric, beads and chains, and a small portion of shinny cardboard.

      How was the wig made?
The head cap is made with regular broad cloth. The beads were then sewn to that. All the small gold ones in the front are hand threaded (Which took hours to do) but the large ones were pre threaded. I then glued a piece of gold cardboard onto the front then engraved and glued a couple of beads to that as well. All sewing was hand done.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to do something Egyptian themed that had a lot of splash and viewer appeal and doing a wig in gold beads seemed right along that line.

      How was the wig made?
I trimmed out the lengths of chain from various old broken jewelry and jewelry-making supplies, and stuck them all together using hot glue.

      What was your concept?
I was rummaging around in my craft area for ideas when I spotted my jewelry-making supplies. I decided that lengths of chain would make an interesting (and shiny!) wig. Plus, a great way to use up all that old broken jewelry too!

      Materials:
jewellery pieces and chains, silk ribbons, fabric (wigcap), sewing thread.

      How was the wig made?
I hand stitched the wigcap on the doll to get a tight fit and attached each chain from 3 points to keep them in place. I weaved the thin ribbons inside the chains in front to give it colour and used two more ribbons to gather the chains in the back to a lose ponytail. Finally, I added some matching colour jewellery as decoration on the forehead. I also made a half mask to make the doll less recognisable.

      What was your concept?
The chain's heavy flow and texture reminded me of small braids so I went for ancient Egyptian colour scheme and style, but the result is a sort of fantasy cyber version of an Egyptian goddess.

Pink plastic ribbons, a comb, one white sock, scissors, needle and white thread.

      How was the wig made?
I hope I can explain with a few photos. My English is not good enough to explain it properly... If this is unacceptable, please let me know before disqualifying me, please? T.T

      1. I bought a roll of pink plastic ribbons (http://i33.tinypic.com/91f47c.jpg).

      2. I cut them (same length) and tied them together using one string of the same ribbon (http://i37.tinypic.com/30jqp1l.jpg) like this...

      3. Then using a fine comb, I combed the ribbons until they're frayed like this (http://i36.tinypic.com/25zmqtf.jpg). ^^ I did it continually until all of the tied ribbons are frayed evenly (http://i33.tinypic.com/qojfhu.jpg).

      4. Next I took out a white sock (http://i36.tinypic.com/2hia69d.jpg) and cut the toes' end to make an elastic haircap (http://i35.tinypic.com/2mx0kfd.jpg). Tried it on my Chalco for size (http://i33.tinypic.com/snm9m1.jpg).

      5. Last is to sew the frayed ribbons on the haircap starting from the top, then I cut the top to form bangs and add volume to the wig... lastly I tied some of it to the back of his head just so it would look tidier. XD

In the 3 photos I submitted, you can see the wig from front, top, and back of Chalco. ^^ He wasn't holding the wig down, tho'. He was just scared of the big pink thing on his head... (_ _)

      What was your concept?
I learn a lot from my mom, whose creativity is beyond measure... ^^ She taught me to use ribbons to make hula skirts and dusters when I was very small... exactly in this way. XD When I saw the first challenge, I instantly thought of this. ^^ I know it's a hard wig to use, but it doesn't cost much. ^^ And it looks fun on pictures, too.

      How was the wig made?
Cut each rubber band to make a strand instead of a loop. Sewed them down the center of the top of a balloon used as a wig cap.

      What was your concept?
I saw these pretty rubber bands at Staples and thought they might make a good wig. As I was putting it together I decided it would probably look best on Machina Alpha--very modern and electric. The idea of using part of a balloon for the wig cap just came to me after I got the rubber bands.

      How was the wig made?
I cut of the toes of the sock. Stiched the edge closed on my sowing machine so it wouldn't fall apart. Then i pulled some fake ivy leafs from my old poison ivy costume. Those i then atached to the sock-headcap in layers so you wouldn't see where each leaf is sown to the cap. Each leaf was sown on the cap by hand.

      What was your concept?
The Guildwars 2 (thats a pc game in development) Sylvari race is a plant race. Their clothing is made up out of plant parts, but so is their body. Giving them very elf like appearance.

      Materials:
Cotton wig cap, Elastic, Plastic tubes & Bondage tape.

      How was the wig made?
I firstly made a wig cap out of cotton to fir the doll and used the elastic to keep the wig on because i knew it would end up heavy. I then got plastic tubes, cut them in half and then, folded them in half and sewed them to the wig.
I then cut the ends so they where all the same length because layering the wig produces different lengths. Once that was done i used the bondage tape cut into thin strips (it sticks to itself and nothing else and has a nice black shiny colour) around some strips to decorate it. To give it a more cyber punk look.

      What was your concept?
In a lot of the cyber punk/goth scene you can get hair inserts made out of crazy materials. These are normally things you attach to your own hair. But i thought making a whole wig out of it would look cool, because the plastic tubes where not something you often see doll wigs out of.

Pantyhose toe, scissors, cling film, paper streamer, glue

      How was the wig made?
First I unfolded the paper streamers to form ringlets. Then I cut to lengh, and glued it around the pantyhose toe, taking in mind the style I wanted to give the wig. Finally, once all streamers were glued, I cut a little more the wig to give it the final look.
As I worked in the wig put on the doll, I used the cling film to protect its head.

      What was your concept?
The wig is made for my SD Kurumi, which wears Lolita fashion and loves sweet pastel colour wigs, like Lolita models in Japanese magazines.
I want all this for her. Then I remembered that, when I was a child, I played to make "wigs" with my friends, using streamers after partys.
I thought that it could be a cool idea when I saw the contest, and I love the result!

Masking Tape, Hot Glue, 3D Stickers, Corrugated Cardboard, Cling-Film

      How was the wig made?
The wig-cap made from masking tape and cling-film. The wig-cap was first covered in the corrugated cardboard (cross-cut strips) with hot glue - to curl the cardboard I rolled it around the end of a chop-stick then I piled curls on-top securing the ends with glue. The fringe is length cut cardboard with smaller curls as a feature. The decorations are butterflies and wild-flowers cut from cardboard and enhanced with 3D stickers

      What was your concept?
It was the only crafty-item in the house my kids wouldn't fight me for!! It was supposed to be a sort of Marie-Antoinette-meets-Tank-girl-in-a-recycling-shop look with a bit of Geisha/Asian influence. I wanted to keep a slightly Asianic look with the blunt fringe and stylised loops at the top - the colour was to really make it look edgy and fun :)

red effect yarn, grey plastic beads, biro springs, red babycord, white cotton

      How was the wig made?
First I sewed a sturdy wig cap and lined it to prevent staining. Then I crotcheted a LOT of tiny braids, folded each on in half, threaded a bead on it and sewed it to the wigcap by hand. Then I stretched the biro springs to the lenght I wanted and sewed them on between the braids.

      What was your concept?
I wanted the wig to be like a huge stylized lioness mane, really vivid and eyecatching with a modern, somewhat punk look to it. I used the fuzzy effect yarn to get a lot of volume, and the beads to add a sort of african vibe that would go well with the lioness theme. The biro springs add the modern, punk tough.

      How was the wig made?
I've never made a wig before, so I just kinda went at it blindly. O_o
I first made a wig cap out of the toes of some nylon stockings, then I cut up strips of lace from my armwarmers and began sewing the strips and fake petals on either one-by-one or two-by-two. The chain isn't actually attached, It's more of a headband made out of the chain that came with the flower.

      How was the wig made?
Crafted the coffee paper as if I were crafting any regular paper, then iron it. Once I had several sheets of coffee papers, I had my pet rats shred it in curls (yes, they did that, they love to shred paper!). With a huge amount of shreded coffee paper, I placed a plastic film around the doll's head and started to glue in the shreds, taking care of the direction of the curls, then let it dry, take off the plastif film, and voilร , perfect fit wig!

      What was your concept?
CORAL! Coral, seaweeds and those undersea plants. But at the same time, WOOD! Trees, wood and the peels of wood from when you're sculpting something.
Mixed Earth and Sea, add some air rise to make curls and... you have it.

      Coque & Peacock Feathers

      How was the wig made?
I first made a wig cap from some cotton material and then began gluing on the feathers. I used small Styrofoam balls cut in half and shaped just right to create the base for the up-do. It was really quite difficult to get the feathers to do just what I wanted and I had to select just the right feather for each area. I sorted through a lot of peacock feathers to find feather strands that were long enough to make the side braid. I had some vintage glass flowers which I felt were just the right accent, so I added them once the wig was done. I love the result and think I will make more of these since this one turned out so perfect :) I wish I could show it in person since the amazing iridescence doesn't come through in the photos as well as in real life.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to make something that was elegant, unique, and fun. I drew several sketches before settling on this particular style. I have always love the iridescent quality of coque and peacock feathers so they felt just right for the look I wanted. Bonus that my mother has a pet peacock so I had lots of feathers on hand :)

      How was the wig made?
I indivudually sewed pieces together to a nylon sock. Unfortunately, the pieces kept trying to unravel themselves as I did this, so it was hard to get them to stay together!

Kitchen roll, Black and Pink Ribbon strings(?) & Glue

      How was the wig made?
I cut out three pieces from a piece of Kithcen roll and sewed them together - to make the wig cap. Then I cut out the Ribbon strings in different lenght and glued them onto the wig cap.

      What was your concept?
Well, at first I didn't know I was even able to participate in this, as I am on holiday and thought I wouldn't have internet. So I didn't bring much - but luckily I brought both some of my dollies and my hoppy kit - so I had to find a good look that I could make out of what I had at hand. At first I considered making a long wig, but desided to go for a short cut - since I thought it would look better.
I desided to use Black and Pink, because they are some of my favorite colors.

I make a headcap from part of the plastic bag, then cut the rest of the bag into strips of "hair" and taped it all together. I then made the "hair" bow with plastic bag and tape, then sewed it to the wig with a needle and thread :)

      What was your concept?
When I heard about the wig making contest, the first person I thought of was Lady Gaga and her crazy (yet wonderful) hair styles. So she was my inspiration for this contest.

Pink Cotton Candy & Purple Ribbon

      How was the wig made?
Because i worked with such a sensative material i had to use gloves or else i would risk the oils from my hands melting the wig. I basicly molded the cotton candy right to her head, using water to adhear the pigtales to the back of the wig. Ribbon was tied onto each pigtail.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to do something playful and youthful. Using a soft pink color let me bring this into play, the candy helped bring this about too.

I used a woolen fabric to make a wig cap.
And then, cut the woolen yarn, separate it one by one and sew them on the wig cap in the same way that fiber wig do.

      What was your concept?
I'd like to make the one that "Usable". It may looks like the Mohair one. But my woolen yarn wig can adjust the length and the hair's volumn and color mixable. You can style it in anyway you want. So, I think it can be the new choice for creating the wig in the future.

      Materials:
Brass and Stainless Steel wool, fabric/wire craft flowers, black beads, 5 and 15 gauge fuse wire

      How was the wig made?
I used two 'bundles' of the stainless steel wool to create the inner starting shape, to build height in the crown of the wig. I then stretched the brass wool over the top of this base to create the actual shape. I then shaped it into a shape I was pleased with, then used the fuse wire to decorate the wig with the fabric flowers and beads.

      What was your concept?
I didn't have an idea to start with, and then when I was in the supermarket I saw the steel/brass wool, and it reminded me of ringlets. Then I thought about the wigs that Marie Antoinette wore, and decided that I wanted to make one of those, but with a slightly steampunky look to it because it was metal. This is why I left some of the plain steel wool showing from under the brass, to make it look like the doll was wearing a wig over hair that was attached to them, like Marie Antoinette would have. I then added extra brass ringlets behind her ears and flowing down her neck, as this was in many of the pictures that I found of Marie Antoinette. The decorations were added to look like some of the styles that Marie Antoinette may have worn to court - the black beads are representative of pearls, the roses of real roses, and I added the bells because Marie Antoinette was well known for extravagant hair styles.

      How was the wig made?
I costructed the wigcap of elastic and pantyhose with an overlay of silver ribbon. It is glued and stitched together. Then I assymbled a web of chain to lay over the cap and stitched it down in a few spots to keep it on. I attached strings of chain to the web one by one stratigically layering to give full coverage and volume. The chain strands were then shortend or lengthened to style.

      What was your concept?
My concept was braids. I like the way braids hang and move. I gathered all the various stuff in my house that could resemble braids and decided on the chain. I am really pleased with the motion the chain gives. I attached the amythist beads afterwards to give it some purple to match Lyssa better! :) I think she has claimed it now!

      Materials:
Bowtie pasta, puff paint, spaghetti, toilet paper,Play-Dough, hot-glue, panty hoe toe, rubber band, velcro strips, and salt.

      How was the wig made?
First I made the wig cap with a panty-hoe toe and a rubberband. I used hot glue in place to hold the two together, and then attached one piece of the Velcro since this wig was going to be HEAVY! Next, it was time to boil the pasta and heat the hot glue gun. Since the pasta would not stick to the hot glue, I had to lay a layer of toilet paper first and then sandwich the pasta tip-to-tip between the layer of hot glue and then the next layer of toilet paper. This gave me 6-to-8-pasta-"theads" in each.. uh..."weft." These I glued to the wig starting at the bottom and working my way around and up. Wefts could not be large because when the "weft" bends, pasta could break loose. Also, the pasta dries up, so if you want to recreate this look, keep a misting bottle on hand and mist the wig every half hour or so. I added a layer of spaghetti shaped Play Dough (thank you, Play Dough Fun Factory!) to give the top of the wig some shape, and give the pasta something else to cling to as the head contoured. Once the main body of the wig was finished, I made a ball out of toilet paper (trying to reduce weight), covered it with layer of "Play-ghetti," and then wrapped that with real pasta. The white peaking out might remind you of alfredo sauce! After that, I attached the two Bowtie bows I had decorated with puff paint--which was originally going to play a larger role in the wig--with the Italian flag. All in all, the wig only took six hours. Next time *HA!*, I want to shape everything into a side ponytail.

      What was your concept?
I "boo'ed" a bunch of my first ideas thinking they might be too common or not creative. This just kinda popped into my head. I pictured a restaurant logo that was a girl with spaghetti hair in a side pony tail complete with meatballs. I am worried that it won't be creative enough or executed well enough to warrant any points, but I just wanted to see it through. It worked really well as a cartoon character, and this contest gave me an excuse to try to go for it. I cut up some curtains, changed to side pony tail to a bun, and swapped the meatballs for bowties, but over all, success! Here is Spaghetti Speranza lives!

      What was your concept?

      How was the wig made?
I cut the fur off of an old, unused wig I made so I could make a brand new one for this contest. I cut the yarn in different lengths, tied a not in the middle of each strand, and hot glued it to the wig cap in layers, alternating the red and greenish yarn strands as I went. When it was done, I combed out the yarn to make it resemble loose dreads or just a really puffy hairdo.

      What was your concept?
The fact that I haven't worked with yarn in years and that i found this yarn at the camp I work at and they let me use it. I also wanted to make a longer, fuzzy wig, since all the faux fur I have is fairly short. This was my first girl-ish wig. XD

      How was the wig made?
I snipped the toe off of some fresh pantyhose for a wig cap as was suggested so I'd have a place to start. Then I put a plastic baggie around my doll's head to protect her. I hot glued the hose in the shape of a wig cap so that I'd have a solid base to work from. Then I snuck out into the night with a flashlight to cut a lot of tall grass from the empty lot out back. I snipped all the seeded heads of the grass and hot glued them to the cap starting at the back and working around like I've seen in wefting tutorials. I also swatted kitties away throughout the process.

      What was your concept?
At first I thought I would use drinking straws and make her a geisha style wig, and then I saw the grass blowing in the breeze and fell in love. From there I wanted to go for an organic fairy meets dreadlocks. Sort of a tribal or hippy chick. Much different from the drinking straw geisha, but more ME.

      How was the wig made?
This wigโ€™s base is constructed of masking tape and paper. After achieving the basic shape of the Geiko/Maiko wig, I built up layers of cotton to mimic hair as cotton candy. Using dry pastel, the wig was powdered to create a pink cotton candy (fairy floss) effect. The combs and decorations are completely crafted out of candy. The kanzashi wisteria dangles were made of jelly belly jelly beans cut into shape, gummy worms, licorice nips and whips. The side combs were created with edible paper flowers, monofilament line and pearl imperial (sprinkles), gumdrops, peppermints, more jelly beans. The combs are jelly fruit slices. The back hair pins are hard rock candy sticks and the bun is tied with sour watermelon and lemon gummy ribbon. Each piece of candy comb, ribbon or pin is functioning by holding the hair (cotton) into place.

      What was your concept?
My concept for this wig is โ€œAmaiko.โ€ This is a pun on the words for โ€˜Sweetโ€™ (amai) and an apprentice Geisha, a 'Maiko'. I wanted to create a traditional looking Japanese hairstyle with a twistโ€ฆhair that is actually cotton candy with yummy, sweets as the decorations holding it in place.

I was lucky enough to see an actual Maiko in Kyoto. I was struck by the beauty and innocence she extruded. Later in Tokyo, I stumbled upon a group of girls in Harajuku in cute pink Lolita style clothing and was surprised that they embodied the same sense of beauty and sweetness that the Maiko had. I tried to put that sweetness, my love of Japan (and candy) into this wig to create a mix of the experiences I had.

Lots and lots of hot glue! The easter grass was layered on top of itself several times (after attached to the wig cap) and the little butterfly easter eggs were pressed into place and glued, then the lace and beads were added on top of the massive eater blob of goodness

      What was your concept?
Even thought my only available model was a boy I really wanted to make one of those old 1800's style white powder wigs because they are so outrageous and difficult to do with standard fur wigs. The easter grass came to me in an epiphany and I ran with the funky color scheme by adding all the crazy beads I could find. The butterflies were intentionally supposed to be in cages because I wanted to incorporate a bird cage theme into my original powder wig idea but birds are so cliche and noisy! I thought butterflies would be appropriate for my delicate cross dressing beauty queen :)

      Materials:
plastic grocery bags, Elmer's glue, a rubber band (and scissors)

      How was the wig made?
I used a rubber band to hold a piece of bag onto my boy's head, then cut other bags into strips, then glued the strips onto the anchored piece.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to use something random that I knew we had a lot of at home. I wanted to make sure I had sufficient supplies. And we always have a lot of grocery bags laying around, so voila! :)

      Materials:
Copper wire of different colors, super sculpty firm, sculpty, crystals, chain, and pearls

      How was the wig made?
First I made the headpiece out of clay, then I made a wigcap out of clay. I then spend many hours weaving wire around two nails to make wefts of hair that I then attached to the clay wigcap and baked. After this I cut up the headpiece into sections and fit it over the hair, then glued it in place. Lastly I added pain, glued in all the crystals, and added the chain.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to make something that looked very Art Nouveau, specifically like the works of Alphonse Mucha. I chose this concept because I knew that the way the wire that I used as the hair behaved looked very much like the wild hair in his paintings.

Old chains from jewelry, nylon leggings, and a bandana!

      How was the wig made?
I cut leggings to fit around my doll's head to make a wig cap. Then I carefully measured and cut discarded jewelry chains and sewed each piece of chain to a certain spot on her head. Then I added a bandana to complete the look that I had in mind.

      What was your concept?

      Materials:
      old dress sock, yarn

      How was the wig made?
I cut the toe off an old dress sock and sewed some darts into it to make it fit my dolls head. Next, I sewed rows of yarn onto the sock in long loops. I then cut all the loops to make single strands. Last, I unplied all the yarn peices into single strands, letting each strand relax and uncurl in my hands so they wouldn't wind back together when I let go of them. As a final touch, I added beads and a small hair clip to style.

      What was your concept?
I was thinking gypsy style... and then it turned into "big hair"!

      Materials:
Thread, hot glue, Ziploc freezer bags, brown rice, black arcylic paint, MSC

      How was the wig made?
I took one of my floating heads and then got Ziploc bags. I cut them up and then played with angles and such to mold the plastic around the doll's head, using thread to sew areas shut and make the cap more formfitting. Afterwards, I coated areas with hot glue and rolled the cap around in the brown rice. The hot glue also helped shape the wig cap the way that I wanted. When I had several layers of brown rice, I sprayed the wig with MSC and then painted with black acrylic, spraying again to keep the paint from rubbing off.

      What was your concept?
I wanted to do a wig with texture. I wanted to do something somewhat African American-esque, and I've never seen a wig that I've really liked. So... I decided to try my own hand at it.

      How was the wig made?
I rolled Play-Doh into dreads which were attached by sticking them to a 'wig' cap made of Play-Doh that was stuck to the fabric of the headband. Some of the dreads were folded or braided.

      What was your concept?
I took inspiration from cyber goth dread falls.

Plastic Beads, Plastic & Hot Glue

      How was the wig made?
first putting plastic over the head and holding it down with rubber band. then taking hot glue gun, covering the head in a layer of hot glue. finally placing beads over the entire head.

      What was your concept?
originally wanted to do an afro of this same bead but had to settle for 1 layer (as another layer would not stretch.) the wig is intended to look curly and is even cuter on a lamb like doll. i chose red because sheep and such are closely reminded from Ireland/Scotland and red hair is as well.

      Materials:
Scrabooking Paper, Craft glue, tape, saran wrap, beads, stretch magic

      How was the wig made?
I first made the head cap out of saran wrap and tape. Then drew out the directionality of the hair on the wig cap and layered different color scrapbooking papers untill I got the desired look.

The chain accessory is not apart of the wig. It just looks cool and was made specifically for the wig :)

      What was your concept?
You know I have no clue what inspired me. It could have very well been the utter lack of sleep that did it! Several days of insufficient sleep combined with cookies, bunnies and a lot of drawing.

      Materials:
C90 Audio Tape, glue and red satin ribbons

      How was the wig made?
I made the wig first by covering the dolls head with a protective covering. Then the material i used was attached a strand at a time until i had covered the whole of my dolls head. I then made ponytail strands and also attatched them as functional ponytails. Then i added satin red ribbons around the ponytails to finish the look

      What was your concept?
My girl is very eastern looking with a western twist. I thought long and hard about what style to use, and came up with an anime style for her. The anime style i felt would be perfect for her.

      Materials:
Wig cap, black and white plastic bags, thread, straightpins

      How was the wig made?
I first made a wig cap out of a little sock. I then cut the bags into big squares, folded them accordian-style and slit up the folds (and slit each of those strands!) to make little bunches of strands, then sewed each tiny bunch to the wig cap individually. the finishing touches included more cutting the plastic strands into even narrower strands, and trimming the wig for overall size and shape!

      What was your concept?
I wanted to use recyclable materials that mimicked hair texture and look, but looked kind of fun and spacey, like something one might see at a club or rave! I was also seeking a material that I had never considered could be made into a wig. I love that this contest really forced me to think outside the box (or bag!)

      Materials:
Thread, Pink Stretchy Fabric, 5 different types of "Edging by the spool" & Ribbon

      How was the wig made?
I used a Luts silicon cap as a template for the size, covering it with fabric. Then adding the first layer of sparkly zigzag edging at a diagonal across the whole top and side part of the fabric, then adding the "shaved" edging to the bottom and back. On top of all that I have added 3 types of edging, tying them off at the back like a pony tail strand. all of these things have been sewn by hand.

      What was your concept?
I was going for a punk look, something edgy with shaved hair in the back and side and then the other side spilling with "punky cornrows" reminds me of a mixture of Adam Lambert & Michael Jackson
