Transgender/intergender dolls?

Jan 7, 2014

    1. [IMG]IMG_2558 by ManabuLi010, on Flickr

I had completely forgotten about this thread, but here is Danya, my IH Rania and DZ hybrid :) Danya is an AMAB. I haven't quite decided yet on what character to go for. But Danya do not identify with the gender assigned to Danya at birth.

The first thing I thought of were a character based on the Ukrainian fashion model "Stav Strashko". I also wanted to base my Rania hybrid on another model by the name "Emil Andersson" for a while. But that had something to do with my unhealthy envy for him, so I have put that thought away. But I think that Strashko is a better choice to base Danya on. Strashko is an AMAB, but identify as a woman. I assume Strashko does not experience any dysphoria. From what I've read she do not want any reassignment surgery and am comfortable and happy with tha body she was born with. I think the IH Rania face fit well an androgyneous male born Ukrainian like model charackter.

The second thing I thought of were making Danya more like me. Someone who is still questioning, but does not feel completely comfortable with either male or female pronouns, or gender neutral pronouns. I prefer to just use my name and be referred to by my name. But Danya's clothing preference are sometimes more feminine, and other times more gender neutral. But Danya can also dress more boyish I guess. Danya just dresses in what ever Danya likes. Whereas I just like gender neutral clothes and shoulder long hair.

    2. What kind of sculpt is it?

    3. @WeLoveGuu I'm definitely guilty of what you describe in some ways, I have a male sculpt with an unmodded male body that represents a nonbinary/genderfluid character. I originally got the sculpt because it's super cute and I have no plans to change the body because it's surprisingly lovely and poses well and fits the clothing I want to use to style xer with but you've made me consider how harmful and fetishistic that can be. I don't particularly see Gilly as a male character though, and don't use male pronouns for xer so I hope I can demonstrate something more natural than harmful.

I've been considering how to approach an FtM character I'm shelling and it's been a challenge. I don't want to buy a female body and mod it myself since most female bodies are very very feminine and not appropriate for the build and look my fellow has. But the only other options are to buy something modded and hope it fits, or else get an androgynous body and sculpt it myself to give him the right musculature and so on. I've been considering the Island Doll Angel body because it doesn't seem to feature strong secondary sexual characteristics...but I don't really like the look of it. It reminds me more of a childlike or adolescent body than an adult body, which is not appropriate for this character.

    4. I never thought about a transgender/intersex doll, but thatโ€™s seriously such an exciting idea! Iโ€™m non-binary myself, and Iโ€™d love to make a non-binary/trans doll! I think itโ€™d be interesting to make an anatomically correct trans doll, but if someone wants to make their doll trans without doing any modifications I think thatโ€™s great too!

    5. One of my dolls' characters is gender non-conforming. He was born male, and is per fectly comfortable with his body and being a "he". He has a feminine hairstyle, and often wears flamboyant or feminine clothes. He is who he is, regardless of how others expect him to act.

I have a gender fluid doll planned, who identifies as neither and both genders. I'm planning a Dollzone 1/6 body for them that will make them intergender compared with my other dolls.

    6. I have one such character I keep forgetting to post about in this thread.

Azabien is based off a character I started developing more back in April. Born not knowing which gender they were supposed to identify as due to being a natural shapeshifter stuck between male and female at birth, Azabien is the non-binary member of my crew (Azabien's from a universe where certain abilities exist, including shapeshifting). They never really identified as either gender while growing up, settling with they as their self identification. When they left home to pursue a career in a traveling theater troupe, they took easily to the stage as they became whatever character they were set to perform.

Azabien can change their looks at will, but likes to stick with a default look that's a middle range look of androgyny. I chose the Resinsoul 70cm slim boy body for them due to how androgynous it was in shape and appearance.

      How Azabien currently looks:

I was inspired a bit by Jinkx Monsoon for Azabien's appearance. Jinkx is one of my favorite queens, especially of the lot who've been on Rupaul's Drag Race (I'm a huge fan of the show). :D

    7. I have a trans guy doll. He is on the k-17 DC body. So it is a female body and I dont intend on modifying but he is definitely a guy.

My next project doll, that I am waiting for the head to come in for, is also going to be female body, unmodded, but still a boy.

Which is completely valid. people don't need to have body modifying surgery to be trans and present right.

    8. One of my characters is genderqueer. Hyacinth is afab, presents more on the masculine end, has more dysphoria regarding their chest than the plumbing, and prefers they/them or he/him pronouns.

Might mod a body at some point, but it is a kind of long project. Never done a body mod besides dyeing so I'm intimidated. Have them on a male body at the moment because it is easier to buy masculine clothes and sewing patterns for that and sanding off a penis would be faster than sanding off boobs. Hyacinth's build is meant to be more on the "tube" end than the "hourglass" end, anyhow.

Hyacinth is from a setting with technology that doesn't go past about early/mid 19th century and had a mastectomy that left really bad scarring due to some combo of technological/knowledge limitations and grabbing the first doctor or med student that wouldn't blab about it. Hyacinth is also has a little bit of a tummy from a life of aristocratic excess, so also got that to add on. So lots of torso and hip modding to do.

    9. My ringo(cherish doll chubby) is genderfluid! The way it came about was I purchased them as a male, put them in female clothes because that's what I had on hand and they were like "this is cute" then made them male clothes and they were like "this is cute too!". I also have an alien doll(Coco tribe faye) and a cyborg (magical angel sherry) who use femine pronouns that match their appearance but aren't really any human gender when it comes down to it.

    10. I've actually made the downpayment for my next doll, who has been on my wishlist for maaaany years now and will be a trans guy!
But I haven't had a boy in years and I am not looking forward to finding a suitable short wig xP this is the main reason I've put off the project for so long :sweat :sweat

Although I have also sent an inquiry to the company to send me a second bust part, in case I mess up the mod or change my mind about the character :sweat I love the face sculpt so I am confident I will want to keep the doll, but I wouldn't put it past me to change my plans and make an entirely new character for it <_<

    11. I have a trans girl who started off as a drag queen ^^. The head is a Narae 404 on a little monica female/flat chested body. I'm going to get an actual bimong body with bigger breasts so she can feel comfortable with herself!

      • x 1
    12. I did not want to modify my doll with the body of a feminine boy, so I just picked up women's clothes, hairstyle and face-up for her.

    13. Though I don't currently own a trans doll, I'm open to the idea! As an nb person, I'd love to have a doll like me- but I just haven't found a sculpt that "clicked" with me yet for one. :3nodding:

    14. Oh my god, do I ever. Being trans myself it's just sort of grown around me.

My Heather is a transmasc nonbinary dude who basically wears/does whatever he wants. Long hair? Kept that because he loves his hair and would've regretted cutting it off. He didn't change his name when he transitioned either and honestly, you really don't have to. He hasn't had any surgeries. I only gave his doll form top surgery because you can't exactly bind resin boobs, so... clothes never would've looked right.

I thought he'd wear sundresses and stuff like he did when he was a teenager, but it waaay didn't work out. He's more frumpy with hoodies and pants these days... because gender presentation comfort can change at any time, and his did.

Meadow my incoming Dojin is almost certainly gender queer in some capacity, so I'm looking forward to working with that. Men's and women's fashion in one doll with few limitations? Yes please.

It's funny to me as a trans person that I have multiple transman characters who didn't change their birth name (I have a Winter and an Ash[ley] in this category as well). I ran as far from my birth name as possible - and now my legal name, because I chose it hastily when I was 18. Literally anything was better than my birth name.

And all my others are LGB somewhere except one. She's the sweetest little ally ever though.

    15. I don't have one at the moment, but I have a Demi-girl character that I plan to shell eventually! She uses feminine pronouns, but is more comfortable and confident presenting as masculine. Ringo sees herself as female, but only in a very loose sense. I also have a non-binary character named Charlie as well as an older Trans-man called Rook. Both of those characters would be wonderful to have dolls for! ...Maybe Rook especially, since my boyfriend has a bit of a crush on the old man. X3

      • x 2
    16. I have a male doll that I consider more gender neutral than masculine (demi-boy would probably be the best term). Heโ€™s my first (and so far only) bjd and I think I made him as a sort of Mary Sue character. I wanted to explore style and sort of live vicariously through him (read: flat chest).
Being genderqueer myself, I knew I wanted a character that didnโ€™t align perfectly with the gender binary, and would be flexible but comfortable in their identity, something I still struggle to have.
So, along came Wren! Heโ€™s not super masculine, and as a Doll Leaves 42 cm boy, heโ€™s short for an msd (of any sex) and has softer features, both in his face and body, than many male presenting bjds.
Iโ€™m still working to finish his character, more specifically his story, so heโ€™s a work in progress, but then again, arenโ€™t we all? :-)

    17. One of the dolls I'm waiting on right now (Mystic Kids Francis SP) I'm planning to make a trans man. I'm going to include top surgery scars as part of his customization.

    18. I have a head on the way to shell my character Deimos, who is an AFAB nonbinary (Like me!!). We both use they/them pronouns. Deimosโ€™ head is a Luts NaNuRi 07, and Iโ€™m looking to find a good small chested female body to pop the head on. Their story is that they were an artist before becoming an angel and now they fight monsters in the apocalypse. They were always nonbinary though, becoming an angel didnโ€™t change that.

      • x 1
    19. I have one. Its head comes from a girl (officially set) and its body is a boy. That's what I planned to do before I bought it. Coincidentally, the seller has such a position. I bought it. But now it seems that the child's face is too feminine. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be a boy. And it's a quarter of the size, so it can't tell gender when it's wearing clothes.:XD:

    20. I'm nonbinary, so lgbt representation is super important to me. Despite that, I don't have any trans or nonbinary dolls yet? I'm hoping to shell an oc of mine who's agender and another that's a trans man, however.

I'll be honest, while I greatly enjoy mods to a doll's body to change their gender, or making a hybrid of female and male body parts, I don't always think it's necessary? There are plenty of trans men and women who look just like cis men and women, and plenty of nonbinary or intersex people who have traditionally "male" or "female" body types.

    21. I have a transgender doll named Connie. I was going to name him Conrad until he showrd up abd it felt like I was holding a lady. Dude clothes never seemed to make her happy ans she always moved and kicked when trying to dress her. Any male faveups I did for her she banged up when I wasnt looking.

She hasnt gotten a girl body yet because I am poor. She currently has a hot glue boob plate that fastens on with yarn.
She doesnt have any lady clothes yet because I am poor. But she does have a genderlesss outfit thay she seems to like.

    22. I have one who identifies as a male. But, he is gender fluid I believe. He is gay and but dresses as both. One day he dresses in boy clothes that is both generally male and a little feminine. He also wears clothes that is clearly more feminine and also loves lolita.
I didn't plan this for him. But I had been reading one of my favorite authors Z Allora around the time I picked him up from a seller. The main character is gender fluid and maybe the kernel started there. I also was not planning on buying him, so I had no boy clothes at that time. So, I dressed him in some of my girl clothes and they seemed to fit him. His new boy clothes also fit him.

    23. I have bought a Rainman tanned Su head and body for my JayR Tinaco inspired character. Currently I'm just waiting for it to ship to someone here who'll modify it from female to male, and modify the nosebridge so that the face looks more simila to JayR. I haven't decided on a name yet but the character goes by the same pronouns as JayR. He/Him and They/Them.

    24. I haven't shelled any of my binary trans characters yet, but I have dolls to shell some of my nonbinary ocs <3

    25. I've toyed for some time with the idea of getting a slim girl doll and making them FtM transgender. It's not Chaeri's style so I'd definitely have to get another doll. When my finances firm up a bit, maybe.

    26. All my dolls are girls and I don't really have characters for them aside from "they have this kind of style of dress" but a bunch of them are, for sure, either trans girls or femme-leaning or gender-nonconforming nonbinary (because I am gnc nonbinary myself and living vicariously through my dolls who can pull off styles I never could lmao). Oh, my Zuzu Delf kitty is genderless, too.

    27. I have a non-binary doll

    28. I'm actually buying a dremel soon so that I can do a top surgery mod! The body is a mirodoll 60cm girl with a small chest, so I'm hoping it won't be too difficult. The character I'm shelling is a trans man.

    29. One of my dolls is genderfluid, and depending on how they feels, will either wear female clothes or male clothes. They also has a long wig that they wears on female days.

    30. Was thinking about the dolls with magnetic changeable boy bits the other day (because they amuse me), and realized it would be neat to have a genderfluid BJD where you could easily swap out the private parts and the chest bits to be male or female whenever you wanted.

    31. My first doll turned out to be genderfluid. I never expected him to be, but over the years of owning him (14 years!) he's moved from his company male body to a modded female-to-male MNF body that suits him perfectly. He dresses in both male and female clothing, loves it and rocks all the looks all the time! :XD: I think he actually prefers skirts and dresses over anything else.

    32. Being trans myself, I want a trans doll. I'm unsure of how I want to go about it, since I'm still in that stage of truly discovering myself haha. I don't know if I want to put a female head on a male body, or if I want to go in and mod a body... or if I just want a male doll I call trans, even if every aspect of him is... well, male. My own views on myself (not others) are specific of course, as is everyone's, and I feel I'll make the right choice of what I want when it comes around to obtaining the doll :)

    33. I have some intergender characters, that are shelled into dolls. Also some of my guys are pretty feminine.
But the dolls themself aren`t intergender.
But I collect YoSD. The don`t have distinct features and I would feel uncomfortable photographing my dolls nude on a regular basis. (Since they all look like children)
      I also prefer genderless bodies.

    34. I've got a littlefee that I'm pretty sure is either genderfluid or a trans boy, haven't quite figured it out yet. In the meantime, they have two names that they go by: Nisha and Aedan.

    35. sorry to necro a thread (i was looking for pics of other ppls trans dolls and came across this!)
My MNF Kyle: Zachariah is Transmasc and nonbinary (like me lol), his twin my MNF ShuShu: Mouse is a demigirl and nonbinary and my MNF Mir/ka: Mihpares is agender. I have a MNF Alan on a male body on the way who's going to be VERY gender nonconforming and possibly also nonbinary or genderfluid! It makes me happy as a trans person to see so many ppl with transgender dolls!

    36. Donโ€™t have a doll yet, but I have an ftm oc who is dear to me and who I would most certainly love to turn into a doll one day. Will be happily following this thread.

    37. I mentioned it in another thread, but I'll mention it here, too. I have two transfem dolls, one of which is genderfluid. I also have an agender doll. None exclusively use they/them or neopronouns, though. I also want to create a transmasc character so I can paint top surgery scars or tattoos on them, but I have yet to create a satisfying character to shell. *crosses fingers* Here's hoping.

    38. One of my dolls was a huge point in learning that Iโ€™m nonbinaryโ€”Valentine is genderqueer, and a he/him lesbian. Heโ€™s way, way femme, even compared to me. The he/him gives him a way of expressing and presenting femme without being conflated immediately with being a woman. Canon to his storyline, heโ€™s on T, starting to get the makings of a truly spectacular beard, but always in bright red lipstick, and a ton of makeup.

Right now, heโ€™s on the Soom old supergem F body, which has a very exaggerated hourglass silhouette, and a pretty big chest, which has been modded to take the even longer legs off the Dollshe old hound body, he also has a packer that I made out of one of the spare loongsoul parts that I had that he can wear and itโ€™s mostly too flat to be immediately noticeable in clothes, but it feels right for his character.

he was my big way of learning about and expressing that I can be really, really femme, and be a lesbian without being/wanting to be a woman. We differ a littleโ€”heโ€™s on T and I canโ€™t be because my vocal range is something I really like. Also because Iโ€™m still figuring out the pronouns thing, and what pronouns I want to use. But heโ€™s very much me writing what feels like the ideal gender to me.

His partner, Alia is also GNC, and tends to dress fairly masc, and keep her hair pretty short. A lot like me, she uses she/her but less because itโ€™s her identity and more both because itโ€™s convenient and because she hasnโ€™t yet met another pronoun she prefers. Sheโ€™s said in her narrative, that sheโ€™s a butch first, and anything else a distant second, when trying to describe her gender.

I also have another character who is a trans man, and heโ€™s based on a close friendโ€™s DnD character. Vesuvius is on the old hound body with the supergem legs Val isnโ€™t using, and is going to have some faint top surgery scars added in when I finally get around to painting him.

I also have an agender doll (Ness), their demiboy sibling (Lex), and their bigender sort-of love interest (Coris) from my other series. Also their sister doesnโ€™t feel very cis to me, but Iโ€™m still figuring her out out.

also, my DnD character is from a culture where everyone is constantly being reincarnated and sex/gender are viewed very differently. Some people have very strong feelings of gender, where they feel that they, and all their other incarnations have had a stable and unchanging gender. Most people donโ€™t, so gender is understood as transitory, and as more of a cool thing you do in one lifetime that doesnโ€™t have to be a lasting part of your identity. Vidania uses she/her in common but in her native language uses something more to the effect of she/her (for now).

I know Iโ€™m missing a few characters, but at risk of getting repetitive, probably half my dolls are some flavour of nonbinary and/or trans.

    39. I have a nonbinary Dollfie Dream named Kobi, I got them shortly after I came out as genderfluid and was still coming to terms with it. I kind of lived vicariously through Kobi, dressing them how I wanted to be able to dress, making a certain look that I wanted to look like. It really helped me process being genderfluid and accept myself <3

    40. None of my dolls are cis (nor straight) u_u

But my Minifee Mir especially (whoโ€™s a character that I have actually written) is a ~25 trans guy who has medium powers and is in a relationship with a demon haunting his house. His transness isnโ€™t a main point in the plot, but as a transmasc person, I wanted to put a bit of myself in this character.

He has been on T for more than two years and has a bit of face hair. Iโ€™ll try to mod his body to make him fatter since I see the character as chubby.

Also, my Dust of Doll Appi Jรคma is a non-binary jackalope creature who presents in a kinda "feminine" way but use neutral/masc pronouns, they like to cause small mischief and can shape-shift to an animal form.

    41. I do have one doll that is a trans guy, and I just knew when I saw his face. He is still getting his make up but I will let him show himself once he is half complete.

Never even considered having a doll which gender wasn't "the one they came with from factory" but here we are, a male doll with female head and body (modded).

      • x 2
    42. I have a pair of dolls whose characters are identical twins, a boy and a girl. The girl is trans, but since they're both prepubescent YoSD models, that doesn't mean much. It's just the only way you can have identical twins of different genders, so I went with it when the dolls "told me."

    43. My first ever doll was an iplehouse boy that in the middle of character creation, sort of decided she was a girl! lol. It happens!

    44. I feel like any of my dolls could be transgender. I haven't really given any thought to which ones are cis and which are trans. They just are their gender no matter if that's how they were biologically born :love

    45. I've never head of the hot glue breast plate thing! Could you show this? I think this is a neat way to get a feminine body for a doll if you don't have the money to purchase another body. it also keeps the integrity of the original body. This feels very much gender-affirming for a doll and it's sweet <3

    46. Here is pics of Ryuma/Reyna that shows their genderfluidness. They have days when they feel male, and days when they feel female, and their name changes depending on their mood.

    47. Alexis, my only complete doll is non-binary, and I imagine most of the dolls I will have will end that way.
I am medically intersex and having never found any real representation growing up am choosing to have my dolls do it instead!

    50. I have plans to make an intersex doll. I am going to buy one of the Mascat Doll girls for this. They are very flat chested โ…“ scale dolls. I have been searching for a doll like this for awhile and stumbled across them by accident. I am very happy to have discovered this company because I can now make the โ…“ XXY doll that I want. I do not plan on modding the body. This doll will be able to wear the boy clothing and look androgynous without modifications.

    51. Well, yes, I suppose I do. I don't feel like I focus on thinking about it because my doll world has been my safe space where I get to act out everyone getting along with each other in their various identities without it causing them a bunch of lifetime traumas like it did me.

Off the top of my head: Laurel is a transwoman I suppose (as the doll character began one way and moved through into herself now) I have a written narrative she's a supporting character in but her transness is not part of the story.
Fer's character realistically is more transmasc than anything, just once again, trying not to focus on that and just let him be.
The Dimitri/Dmytro characters have always been carefree and gender nonconforming (somewhere in non-binary/fluid)
People have made plenty of comments about my "soft boys" (rude lol) and commanding women in my doll family overall. It is what it is (an expression of personal narratives in the way that is natural for me).

      • x 2
    52. Yes, I have two twin dolls I would consider transmasc. Well by human standards within the story I've written for them their society works differently from ours.
Though they are still undergoing chest modifications. (I'm easily distracted ahah)

    53. Last year Metis doll had a pre-order for a fashion BJD doll called "Orlando" that is very gender fluid, the creator mentioned the the body type as "Angel" and described Orlando "as supermodel with both gender". Due to it's androgynous body type it can be dressed as a woman or as pretty boy. It reminded me of the film "Orlando" that Tilda Swinton was the protagonist back in 1993 and the 1970s anime series " Lady Oscar" aka Rose de Versailles set mainly in pre-revolutionary France. This is one of those dolls that I would like to add to my collection one of these days.
