Things that are hard to find that you would like to see more of

Mar 24, 2010

    1. More clothes, shoes, and wigs for 1/12 bjd and smaller

      • x 1
    2. I think I would like to see more mature-ish / masculine-ish / muscular-ish (you can picture it now) male bodies with decent posing that are in the 58-62cm range. :sweat

      • x 9
    3. I would have never guessed given the popularity of the size but shoes for mature minis with ~5.5x2cm feet (minifees, Soulkids etc)??? How are there so few options??? Somehow all the cool ones are made for much bigger feet in the 1/4 size group.

Also tall mini girls! Gimme 48-50cm still in proportion with other 1/4 dolls!

    5. Oh, seconding this. I had an ikea backpack that worked for a while but it wasn't as weatherproof as I would have liked.

    6. Yes! 100%! I'd love stands to be more common place as well.

      • x 2
    7. More props and furniture for all different sizes! My teeny tiny little off-topic 1/12 boys have plenty of options—I'm just finally getting into building a little space for them and it's tons of fun! But doing so makes me want some things for my 1/6 and 1/4 boys. I know there are things out there for them that aren't nearly as expensive or hard to come by that props/furniture for 1/3 dolls, but I'd still love to see more options.

Would also like to see more nicely-styled wigs for 1/4 and 1/6 boys. Every time I see a REALLY nice short wig I'm like 'OOoohh I just know that's gonna be 1/3 only' annnd it typically is ahaha.
I get that it's way more of a pain to style wigs like that for the smaller heads, though. I just need to get into learning now to better style the wigs I already have myself.

And my last request . . . more nice-looking kitty ear accessories in more colors (resin or soft ones).
      Because I'm horrible :kitty2

    8. more clothes/furniture/wigs for 1/6 mature dolls!

      • x 1
    9. 1/4 and 1/3 cars. I want my dolls to drive dammit! I know they would be huge but I'd happily give space for them

      • x 5
    10. It's been a complaint of mine for years, but more clothes for 1/3 girls that aren't dresses. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find more everyday clothing (jeans, etc.)!

      • x 5
    11. American Girl (and Target and Walmart) have made some that will work for 1/4 scale. Voltz Toys makes some ride on toy cars that can work for 1/3 scale…so long as you don’t mind one big out of scale steering wheel in the center of the dashboard!

    12. Glasses for my supiadoll babysup. She has a small head compared to other dolls her size, but not as small as fashion dolls. I have looked and looked and now will probably spend a long time making them to be the way I want.

      • x 2
    13. ANYthing for my 8cm doll. I completely understand why, he’s SO tiny. But just once I’d like to have something for him that I didn’t make myself.

    14. W
Wow that size might almost fit 1:24 scale mini dollhousing stuff. Dang that is tiny. What is he, a Squee?

      • x 1
    15. He’s a Vertales Tarvi.
Tiniest doll I own and will probably ever own!

Finding things for him is a pain and dressing him when I do is a double joint pain! Both his legs and elbows are double jointed.
At that scale im SO scared one day I’ll have to restring him. I’m not even sure where I’d find the proper string for him.

      • x 1
    16. Depending on the doll - action figure clothes and props/furniture can work

    17. Detailed furniture in 1/4 and 1/3 scale that isn't chairs or laser-cut kits gets my vote. I like chairs and the versatility of what you can make with kits, but I'd love something more complex sometimes. It would definitely cost an arm and a leg (which is fine by me) but I feel like it's already hard to even find makers/artisans to begin with.

    18. I’d really love more goth, rock n roll, biker type clothing for the 65cm ladies and EID size men. My tastes are a little bit “old fashioned” which makes it slightly harder to find stuff that is to my taste as I find a lot of styles a bit too modern. Sometimes I buy stuff for myself to wear and instantly wish I could find the same thing in doll size… :sweat
I should probably get on and make some of my own but I love buying doll clothes… :chomp:

      • x 1
    19. I'd like some really nice looking horses that my SD folks could ride-and that I could afford!

      • x 1
    20. I wanna see older/more mature bodies and sculpts! IDK how it would be done but maybe lighter 70+cm bodies that are more poseable? I feel like because of the heft, mostly I just have my boy standing or sitting and just looking menacing.

      • x 4
    21. WIGS THAT DON'T HAVE BANGS

I always have the hardest time finding those- I'm not a big Bangs Fan, but almost all BJD wigs seem to have them! Is it an anime thing, or...?

      • x 13
    22. I was JUST wig shopping. I feel this so flipping haaaaaaard

      • x 6
    23. Yes, me too! I just got the most gorgeous faceup done on one of my girls; I don't want to hide those perfect Morticia Addams eyebrows! (Finally found one I liked on Dollyplanet.)

      • x 3
    24. I think bangs are so very common is because they're an easy way to hide the wig line. I've started making my own wigs in part so I don't have to hunt for bangless wigs.

      • x 4
    25. A lab coat. I would love a lab coat in MSD size, but no luck so far.

      • x 5
    26. More variety in Uncle clothes. My big guys need love too.
I have had to get much better at sewing the get them to have everyday clothes.

      • x 4
    27. Yes!!! I don't want to have to collect 75+cm dolls to get a buff, adult male body. While we're at it, more mature faces in proper 1/3 scales too. Almost all sculpts are too boyish until you get over 70cm.

      • x 4
    28. Cyborg/robot girls, the gritty kind. It looks like only Dlace makes them.

      • x 2
    29. Green wigs, specifically matcha or grassy tones. I've been wanting them in at least three sizes. @.@;

      • x 3
    30. Good alternative style clothes that aren't just edgy street wear. I know they are out there but wading through the stuff that is grouped in with it is exhausting

      • x 2
    31. More happy looking male dolls. I feel like most have that “I don’t really care” look or just a neutral face, which is pretty, but I want more dolls that have a bright smile because not every character I have is cool or aloof.

      • x 4
    32. I think they wouldn't sell at all so I've made peace with this in advance, but female fantasy sculpts with actual fantasy facial features. Elves that look fairy-like and weird, oni/goblins with bestial features, hybrid-looking anthros and so on. The DZ rabbits were really cool but there's very little else like that and I think DZ/DC are particularly daring.

      • x 4
    33. Emo boys. How did they all disappear?! Bring them back!! :eusa_pray

      • x 4
    34. Iplehouse CREAA line have a sort of alien like fairy vibe to them. Dream Valley and Miracle doll are also companies you might be interested in.

      • x 2
    35. I did not know about Iplehouse's fantasy sculpts! I regret passing on (well I actually joined the hobby too late) the demon cat from Miracle Doll.

    36. I can has SD drider that doesn't look like child?

...To be fair, that would probably be more trouble than it's worth, but I would also settle for a large MSD drider / small SD one. Preferably one that had the option to be either sex. Articulated drider figures are a rarity in general, despite being a fantasy trope staple.

It's already been said numerous times, but more plus-size dolls and muscular female dolls, please. Considerable progress has been made from where we started, but most bodies that are truly 'plus size' are limited / no longer produced, and there are still no male counterparts to the female options we do have. Muscular females are also largely confined to limited releases, save for a couple. We need more standard options!

    37. More tiny wigs, eyes, clothes, and shoes for Pukipuki size. I have found a couple sources but it’s just not a lot of variety.

    38. Hello, it is I, me, doing another drive-by rant about lack of tiny clothes. I LOVE frills but could never wear them IRL (too much hassle, and not flattering to me) and I wish I could deck my dolls out in pretty frills. I am happy to pay a pretty penny for it. But all the actual high-quality doll dress makers seem to make MSD-sized frills at the smallest size. On the other end of the spectrum there are plenty of beautiful Blythe dress makers... and they're SO CLOSE in height and size to Yo-sized dolls! But for some reason for the 20-30 cm range in BJD doll clothes, despite the relatively standard sizes, there's only two-three that I know that make actual beautiful, in-scale frilly clothes (plenty at the mid-priced ranges, but I can't get over the oversized lace and details). And 90% of their offerings are dresses, which means my desire for two boy dolls is SOL.

    39. you wouldn't think so, but just some nice, basic, dark brown eyes that aren't like, teddy bear eyes or super cheapo acrylics is SURPRISINGLY difficult. All of them seem to be ambers and hazels which are lovely, but not what I need.

      • x 6
    40. ^ foveo and dolce bella make great, true brown eyes but good luck ever getting them.
I was really happy with secret art studios natural colored eyes so maybe her website is worth browsing.

      • x 1
    41. Hazel eyes that are actually hazel and not just a shade of brown (they should have both green and brown in them but the ones I find only ever seem to be a solid shade). And sandals! It's almost impossible to find sandals for male dolls, and all the ones I've found for girls are for heeled feet. Where are the dolly birkenstocks xD

      • x 4
    42. Omg exactly!! High quality sandals for males and also, in 70+ cm size please ;_;

      • x 3
    43. More diverse short wigs. It was said here previously there are just too many wigs with the bangs, but if you shop for short hair it is mostly variations of one style(with the bangs yes). I feel like if you wanna something else like pulled back hair you have to look for a custom made.

      • x 5
    44. More 1/6 size wigs
Plain old fashion resting hands without jointed fingers 1/3
Actual physical bjd stores like in Japan.
Cheaper prices & larger selection for bjd hobby

It’s not fun to wait 4 months for 2 1/3 hands to be delivered when your doll rn has broken finger & there nowhere to go to get it ASAP

      • x 2
    45. I’d love to see more face sculpts with kitsuneme (fox eyes)! :kitty2
I’ve only found two so far. The rest of the closed eye sculpts that I’ve found are sleeping ones that don’t have the upturned eyes, or ones with only one eye closed.

      • x 3
    46. Ah I remember a maker I've seen who made a fantastic sculpt with that sort of eyes but I cannot find the instagram page! Chances are it's one of the couple sculpts you know about, it's true that they're super rare.

      • x 1
    47. Smirking, cocky and confident older women. I want a woman sculpt in her thirties/forties with a smug smirk, crow's feet and smile lines.
*Sigh*, that would be the dream...

      • x 6
    48. As someone approaching 40... Yes! I'd love to see a doll with those features!

And more variety in male dolls as well - I'm happy to see curvier bodies out there for women, but unless they're chibi style, all the male bodies seem to be skinny, lean and muscular. :sigh

      • x 4
    49. FURNITURE! I have a hard time finding cute and pretty seats, I haven't had much luck beyond the Volks ones.

      • x 3
    50. There is a Mel Odom doll violin that comes with an outfit called Crescendo that is to scale. It's nicely made too. :)

Missy's Imaginings has a lot of nice free patterns for several sizes of dolls, basic stuff.

    51. Dragons. But not cartoony or anthro dragons, stuff like Cuartosdolls dragon dragons. Animalistic, fantasy but not over-the-top, classic 4 or 2 limbed dragon with realistic body proportions and a somewhat plain, highly customizable silhouette.

      • x 3
    52. Probably a silly question but have you seen the Dream Valley dragons they did recently? Four legged fantasy dragons with wings. DollZone also had a shockingly large two-legged dragon. Both are/were limited to very limited runs but Dream Valley usually do a round two of their sculpts and the dragons seem to have been very successful while DollZone's limited two-legged Shadow is still available for another couple of weeks.

      • x 1
    53. Yesss I did see those! Unfortunately I’m very picky when it comes to my dragons and had some gripes with both of them, but they’re also both so cool!

      • x 1
    54. Fair enough, I assumed if you liked dragons you probably had. I also very much support the desire for more dragons. Out of curiosity, what were the gripes you had about each of them?

To add to this thread more generally, I think my thing would be sculpts similar to Iplehouse, SartoriaJ or RaccoonDoll but where I can just buy the head.

      • x 3
    55. Casual separates made with the same quality and attention to detail as elaborate full sets. Maybe I've just been out of the game for too long but it seems so hard to find well made casual pieces. I don't want a t-shirt or hoodie that looks like it came out of a barbie set to put on a thousand dollar doll.

      • x 3
    56. Gripes with the Dream Valley was the lack of muscle sculpture and face sculpture, wasn’t fond of the face shape, and the sculpted on armor.
I actually really like the DollZone guy, he’s just not exactly my vibe and I don’t have any money *_*

      • x 1
    57. Haha, I dwell in Harajuku fashion, cosplay for dolls etc. (beginner, though) and I can tell you - finding clothes that would be casual but nicely done and fashionable - it's a pain in the neck. Finding wig in cybergothic style? Doll goggles? Yeah, not happening.

And props. Seriously, 1:3 scale si so much easier to make, we have 3D printers, where are all the props for 1/3? I have Amber from Island Doll and in promo photos she is with violin.I would love that violin, even if I would have to pay for it separately. :/ Nope! Not a chance. :/

And bags - such a common stuff and not many are offered. Guess I will have to learn how to sew them myself :/

      • x 2
    58. I remember having a pair of Another Space black leather goggles for my MSD Hewitt once upon a time. I do look back at that BJD era fondly!

      • x 1
    59. - see my pain? :D I probably will end up doing them in clay and covering them with waterproof glue XD

      • x 1
    60. I just remembered an obvious thing - dogs for BJDs. I want a rottie for my 1/3 girl, doesn't have to be jointed. I bought a 20 cm toy Maltese that will be her companion, but as a big dogs lover I really feel the lack of dogs for bjds. I know there are a couple of small ones but I wish I could have that beautiful greyhound or proud rottie or alert GSD for my girl. :/ I can only dream. :/
