Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread*

Dec 11, 2014

    1. BJD Confessions. I think its catty and immature. All anyone comments on how they don't like ____________'s doll, and somehow because it is the internet and its anon that it's okay. Well it's not okay to hurt another person's feelings. When is it ever okay to trash someone else? If you don't have the balls to type it out with your name attached, then keep it in your own brain.

This is an artistic hobby, you don't have to like everyone's art. But you should have the courtesy like your mama taught you to keep your trap shut and your fingers still. Sorry for the rant but it's not right to hurt people. It should be taken down and thrown out in the recycle bin for good!

    2. While we're at it, some women over the age of 25 would be nice too. Or even under the age of 25 but not looking like they have the sheltered life experience of a 5-year-old. I keep looking to shell some female characters and it's just doe-eyed, tiny mouth city. And if it's not doe-eyes, it sexay vixxxxxen. I actually like doe eyes and sexxxxy too, they're fine in moderation, but the "delicate innocent flower"/sex kitten needs to end some time.

    3. Companies not having pictures of the blank heads. I tend to do character "tribute" dolls and I'm super picky about the sculpts. Faceups can really change the appearance of the doll, and a sculpt that looks like it might work from the face-upped picture often turns out to be not right at all once I see the blank face. I'd love companies to have 3 sets of pictures: one face on, two profiles (left and right), and then two 3/4 views (halfway between face on and profile, on each side).

I wish I could find more "soft masculine" sculpts. I mean, there's quite a few out there that are all jaws and dimpled chins and frown lines, but when you're looking for soft to neutral features but with a more masculine jawline or a slightly thicker nose or thinner lips (for examples), there's not a whole lot out there. It's either "almost feminine" or "rugged".

and last, my failures at budgeting to save up for more dolls. Totally my fault, but it's still annoying.

    4. Totally d'accord with the lack of sculpts representing people of colour. But I respectfully beg to differ concerning all else: I see people with Caucasian facial structures and for instance black skin everyday in the city, and likewise people with more African looking facial structures and light skin. Partly it's because people just mix up any way love leads them (and yay for that), partly it's because there are more looks on this planet than just Caucasian and African. Someone from India, f.i., can look very Caucasian in bone structure and have any darker colour under the sun. So I feel all these sculpt and colour combinations have their place here, you know?:3nodding:

And by the way, Mattel had an exclusively African head mold for their first 9 years of producing black barbies. After that they used different ethnic molds and sometimes even their Caucasian mold :kitty2

As for the dreadlocks on white people and dolls, of course I respect your opinion. Just, where and by whom is it "rightfully considered cultural appropriation"? Maybe I do not get the concept because I'm European, but I really would like to understand this better. Are Caucasian dolls with nose piercings, harem trousers, raffia sandals or bindi culturally appropriating, too? And what about Caucasian or African folks owning Asian BJDs and giving them Japanese names? How do you tell where it starts and where it ends? All through the long history of humankind people have been culturally influencing each other, it is such an integral part of being human. I thought I'd bring this up because this cultural cross-influencing is such an important and inspiring part of the BJD hobby to me and I really would not want to be part of any community where that would be considered immoral.:huh?:

    5. I'm afraid I can't quite agree on this issue. Many many many cultures throughout history, including one or two white ones, have worn locked hair. Even the religious Nazarite locks of the Rastafari movement are perfectly acceptable for white Rastafarians to wear in real life, so I don't see how such a blanket rejection makes sense?

    6. Super sexualized dolls that look like kids really freak me out. Like if a doll has an obvious child face but then has huge boobs and a skimpy sexy outfit......:ablah:. It just completely rubs me the wrong way.

    7. When dealers only have white or normal skin dolls in stock when the company makes a wide variety of colors.

When I go through different types of "dolly highs." For example, I'll get all caught up in wanting another MSD doll when I've barely spent enough time and energy on my current one and my main priority is suppose to be my tinies. Or I'll want to buy another doll, when I also need to get more clothes, wigs, and eyes for my current crew. Or I'll suddenly fall in love with a new company and want to buy a new doll from them immediately.

    8. I'm sorry but light skinned people having dreadlocks is not in ANY WAY cultural appropriation, every race and culture throughout history has had dreadlocks cause that's what happened to people with curly hair (remember, they didn't have the proper hair care we do now). Actually in the Nordic countries they called dreadlocks 'fairy tangles', it came from the belief that fairies would tie your hair up in knots while you slept, while it might not look GOOD on some people (honestly, like any hair style, you need the right face shape for it to work) that doesn't make it cultural appropriation.

    9. I think it's good to remember here that dolls are characters, not people. If I saw a white person in today's American society walking around with dreadlocks, I would probably think cultural appropriation. But if you have a character that's from one of those ancient cultures where white people wore dreadlocks, then that's just historical accuracy.

For example, I have a doll and character from the Edo period of Japan, and he wears traditional Japanese clothing and uses traditional props from that period. If someone would scream cultural appropriation at me, I'd be pretty upset, because I'm going for historical accuracy and to make my character as respectful and true to life as possible.

Character making and dolls are separate from real life. Now, if you see a doll that's apparently Caucasian and from modern times that has dreads, then maybe you can get up in arms about that and have a legitimate reason to. But don't lump all characters under an umbrella when someone might just be going for historical accuracy or finding an appropriate hairstyle for a fantasy character.

    10. Sometimes, and I know it probably would get tedious for owners, when almost every part of the image is "credited" except the part you wonder about... say, the outfit is from Place and the sculpt is This from That, and they made the wig... but the eyes are unlisted. So then you wonder if you should just ask, or not.

      • x 3
    11. Absolutely. If you are interested in where they got them, ask. Sometimes people just get tired of typing. Or they have forgotten lol.

      • x 1
    12. @SamaraWaits I sometimes worry about offending, or seeming like I'm trying to copy. But sometimes those eyes look so gorgeous, and I want to know the company, because I'm having a hard time finding ones I like myself. Thank you though, maybe I'll have more courage. lol

      • x 1

    13. All you can do is try. If they get offended and you are being polite, that's on them. I see people ask things all the time. Most frequently its the sculpt if someone shares a pic. Most people love their creation and are happy to share the info. As for copying, they say that's the sincerest form of flattery :P. I wouldn't worry about that too much unless you are in a tight community and someone cries about it. I think as long as you are bring polite, most people will be happy to answer. Give it a shot. If you get bad responses, more than 3 times from different people, then maybe there is something going on, but even just one person having a bad response isn't a reason to give up :).

      • x 2
    14. While allot of your points are valid, and certainly justified, it still does not make EVERY light colored doll wearing dreads cultural appropriation. You are definitely entitled to your opinion but when you make a blanket statement of "White people wearing dreads is rightfully considered cultural appropriation" you are stating your opinion as fact and many people (as well as doll owners) would be rightfully upset. Like Kiyoshi Senshi said some doll owners might be making dolls that are historically accurate, like if someone made a Celtic warrior doll and wanted it to have dreads cause allot of them did back then it would not make it cultural appropriation, nor would someone who has a fantasy or alien doll that was pale skinned and had dreads. While dreads may not be as relevant today as they were hundreds of years ago it still doesn't make them any less a part of someone's history, and really, judging someone based on the color of their skin is still bad no matter what their race.

I know you were listing what annoyed you but you simply could have said that you found dreads on white dolls to be cringy or that it seemed like cultural appropriation TO YOU, but you made it out as if your opinion was fact (which is not a good way to state things really). I also doubt it has much to do with 'white fragility', there are POC that own white dolls too, but perhaps more to do with people who are against cultural appropriation being accused of such simply because they have a doll that has dreads and happens to be light skinned (like I said before, fantasy and alien dolls certainly would NOT be cultural appropriation since their usually from made-up worlds separate of our own).

I do like that you're against cultural appropriation but you shouldn't always jump to that conclusion with-out knowing the story behind things, I know I would be upset of someone said I was culturally appropriating Asians because my doll Ogden was wearing a kimono without actually being Japanese. Since his character is based-off a man who lives very far in the future one Earth where all Human races and culture no longer exists (lost over time/due to wars) but he finds-out that the part of Earth where he lives used to be part of Japan and since he was born there he wants to honor the ancient Humans that lived there by wearing their traditional garb.

    15. What is "cultural appropriation" anyway, and what is wrong about it?

The other day I saw a Japanese man wearing Nikes and Levis eating at McDonalds. I told him off, his behavior was totally offensive to me as a Westerner. He should have been wearing kimono and geta and eating sushi, not imitating an American.

Ok, that obviously didn't happen, so why should a white person (or doll!) cop flack for wearing a kimono?

Or is "cultural appropriation" only bad if white people do it?

      • x 9
    16. Well, as it's been pointed out - then state your opinion as an OPINION, not as a FACT. If I want to honour my ancestors, the Celts (yes, my hometown actually used to be a Celtic settlement, some 1,000 years ago), by wearing my hair the way they did, I'll do it.

    17. Okay, lemme start by saying this is very rare and seems to be less frequent than it was 8+ years ago when I first started the hobby, but something that annoys me... When people are just fine having gay (LBGT+) characters/dolls, but supporting and just not being crappy to actual gay people is apparently some kind of hardship...? Back when I first started the hobby, gay people were even less accepted than they are now, and having crazy rainbow sparkly gay boys was some kind of trend, but those same people sometimes (only sometimes, mostly rarely) weren't the best to actual gay people. I'm not sure if they were just uneducated or thought all gay people should be conventionally attractive and dress in nothing but rainbows, but... I dunno. As a gay person, it was kind of a kick in the teeth.

Like I said, these days there are much better representations of gay people not only in the doll world, but in general society, so that's nice. It's still a little weird when a straight person has a gay character that seems really...I dunno, like a caricature, but I guess there are actual people who are like caricatures too, so I can't really complain.

Society is weird. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I try to let the crappy people pass me by.

Aaaaaand that's the only mini rant about societal issues I will ever put online, heh.

    18. Ah I agree with this, I already have lots of art supplies but getting all the correct sealants/removers is a pain! Funnie, have you looked for Testor's Dullcote in craft stores? I haven't used mine yet so can't say what it's like, but I found some in the model train section and according to a thread here on DoA it's resin-safe.

    19. Tumblr confession blogs annoy me. Can't find cute pictures of dolls because I have to scroll through hundreds of posts that are, frankly, absolutely irritating (use flickr for pictures, it's better).

Something else that bother me is the discrepancy between head and body prices. I have two dollfie dream heads with no bodies because I haven't accumulated the cash for 'em yet. T^T I''m working on it, darn it!

And, honestly, saying this might bite me, but I kind of hate the self-congratulatory attitudes a lot of BJD owners have about their dolls, and where they came from, how much they spent, and how much better they are than everyone else's. You can take pictures of your dolls with their little note card signs every year, I'm not gonna suddenly kiss your feet & revere you. It's dumb, too, because I'm never going to interact with these people, but it's like the confession blogs. I have to scroll through so many of them that it gets on my nerves.

    20. Whoops, posting again because @amarantinenoir reminded me that I'm veeeeery annoyed by almost (note the almost) the entire doll community on Tumblr. I used to have a doll blog, but I pretty much abandoned it because 80% if not more of the doll stuff on Tumblr is either nasty confessions that I don't care about or people fighting about recasts. (I think recasts are deplorable, but after 50,000 of the exact same post saying why they suck... You get tired of it when you just want pictures of dolls. Plus, some people on Tumblr, especially when they can be anonymous, are way way waaaaay too mean. It's ridiculous.) There are some lovely doll people on Tumblr, and thankfully, most of them have an account here too, so I just find them here! Much better. :3nodding:

    21. MODERATION

Cultural appropriation is a serious topic, but it is one that won't be resolved on a doll forum.
Both sides have had an opportunity to express their views on the subject.
The discussion about cultural appropriation is now over. Any further discussion about this subject or any more heated arguments and this thread will be closed. Den of Angels seeks to be a welcoming place for members of the doll collecting hobby regardless of personal views and opinions.

    22. -More tan and brown skin colors from more companies PLEASE *bangs fists on table*

-More mature MSDs from more companies! Especially boys! *bangs fists on table*

-Citadel Purity Seal that can be bought in person bc Games Workshop is always sold out! *stares at Chicago spray paint and aerosol laws*

-More accurate lolita fashion clothing! *bangs fists on table* (It's way better now than it was even a few years ago tho hooooo boi)

Idk I can't think of anything else.

      EDIT: WAIT NO ONE MORE--

-People judging your dolls and verbally talking smack about them IN PERSON AT THE MEET YOU'RE AT.

Whoever it was that said '(I) must be f***ing rich to afford THAT (my Iplehouse Edan in light brown skin)' I BOUGHT HIM ON A LAYAWAY. Nobody has to be rich to enter this hobby. NOBODY. Ffs I worked one part-time job at the time and was (barely) able to afford his monthly payments but I made it work. Also, I did his faceup, and all of the clothes he was wearing, minus the pair of used, stained shoes I got for $8 and the mohair wig I found on Etsy for $30 so NOPE >:I take your envy and get it out of my face bc I don't wanna overhear it AT A MEETUP. WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHO OWNS THE DOLL YOU'RE SMACK TALKING AND THEY CAN POTENTIALLY OVERHEAR YOU.

Obviously though that bothers me?! So?! Much!? I have bought ALL of my dolls on layaway, I ain't rich. >:I AND HOW DID YOU SERIOUSLY THINK NOBODY WOULD OVERHEAR YOU. AT A MEETUP. MY GOD. *throws hands dramatically in the air*

      K that's it :v

    23. One of the things that REALLY annoy me is when people contact you about something you are selling and then don't get back to you. I answer all their questions, I walk to the post office to find out the exact price for shipping, then I convert the price into US dollars (I do not want to overcharge anyone!) I inform them of this and then, nothing. No reply or anything, I really wish that they would just say 'thank you but I am not interested anymore' and then I can move on and not freak out that I have done something wrong. This has happened to me four times already and I am getting sick of it. *grumbles*

Another thing is when I give people the economy airmail price (Australia post's cheapest) and then they say that it is far too much! It is not my fault practically every other country in the world is so far away!

    24. When people don't put what doll(s) are in the photos they post - either in the post or the tags. Happens on Flickr sometimes and freaking tumblr all the time.

      • x 4
    25. OMG, THIS! Most of the time when I'm trying to find Lolita fashion stuff for my doll, ALLOT of it is either lolita-esce or just plain ita :ablah:

    26. -Secondhand sales posts that hide or lie about the condition of the doll. Yellowing or minor damage might not bother me if I expect them. Even a dirty doll can okay if I'm warned ahead of time that she needs TLC and a good bath. If you claim the doll is in excellent condition and use blurry photos in dim lighting with filters and it shows up banana yellow, broken fingers, filthy and smelling like an ashtray, I'm going to be very upset.

-Flaky people. Communication is a big deal to me, and I lose a lot of trust in people when they have poor communication or just never reply to PMs. I don't expect anyone to sit around online all day every day, just check in at least once a day during transactions. If you change your mind or aren't interested, just tell me so I'm not missing my chance to sell to/buy from someone else while waiting on you.

-Dolls who don't have easily removable hands and feet, especially if they have large hands or feet. Volks One Touch system and Fairyland magnetic hands/feet have completely spoiled me and now I'm annoyed with dolls whose hands/feet are difficult to remove and the s-hook slips back into the limbs. I don't want to get out all the restringing tools just to put a shirt on!

    27. .When people describe richer tans as being *too* dark.
      Can't handle that resin melanin?

.Gore for the sake of gore in faceups and body paint.
      Soo edgy...

.People calling Minifee/Fairyland dolls boring/basic etc.

      .The word ethereal.

    28. ... yes yes and... I'm working on this! lol... I've seen the dollmore ones for the giant kids (Lusion/Trinity) I think the trick is fining the right 'stopper' to fix a 'hook' too... like a bead and one of those hooks with a 'loop' and hook end... also buttons with loop shanks XD there are things but i suck at the crafty stuff to make the perfect tool lol

    29. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the things that irk me are, oh lord he has a list,

      1) when people tell me what I should do with my doll, especially when it's not wanted.

      2) when You see a doll you love and look up other people that also have the doll and it looks nothing like the company picture.

      3) wanting a doll and having a vision for it and then seeing that someone else also had the same vision as you so you feel awkward.

      4) fake people in the hobby.

      5) when people that can't do faceups for shit trash someone else face up work.

      6) when people trash the work of a kid in the hobby.

      7) once I had stained my hand without knowing it and I touched my sisters pale minifee, haha my ass pulled out an eraser real quick.

      8) easy tangle wigs.

      9) wigs that cost more than they are worth.

      10) bjd shaming of any sort.

    30. Posing out of the box. When a doll arrives and they stand and pose perfectly out of the box and owners defines that as perfect bodies or craftsmanship. But the dolls are naked, no clothes, wigs or shoes. I have always found this irritating. Instead of showing how well the naked doll stands/pose, show us how great the doll is fully clothed. That would be more impressive.

    31. I think, perhaps the only real pet peeve I have about this hobby (beyond things like paying paypal fees) would have to be...

...how every little thing is about 'status', I've been around for awhile, but I don't post pictures. One, I suck with a camera...and two I have a horrid fear that someone will judge that I do and tear it limb from limb. This doesn't mean I don't know how to pose a doll. I've never shared a modification project on the threads, but that doesn't mean that I do not have the knowledge to assist you with covering up that epoxy. I haven't posted any pictures of clothes I have sewn but that doesn't mean whatever I tell you about hemming that dress is just timeless banter.

(I'm saying I, but its more of an 'in general'). Just because someone hasn't documented a bazillion different things doesn't mean their knowledge is lacking. Just because someone doesn't own a doll doesn't mean they don't know about this hobby. You could very easily just read past their knowledge and say nothing about it, but calling someone out is just wrong. I'm not talking about someone who dissed your post about a first face up so you link theirs (which is juvenile) but asking for someone's credentials in a critique, telling someone they have no right to offer advice because they don't own a doll, or don't have a doll on their page.

...that kinda crap grinds my gears. We're supposed to be a community of like minded hobby-ists and yet I've seen quite a bit of tearing down on the forums over the years.

    32. YES! Or not even remotely related to lolita fashion at all, like punk rock or corsets or even just plain striped socks. It's a nightmare XD ChocolateTsang and FeerieDollAtelier have really wonderful options though! I'm so happy that I found them. Now to just give them my money and hope that more people follow the trend... > 3 >

    33. - finding a perfect head and a perfect body for a character from different companies with poor resin matches
      - the lack of non limited tan skin dolls, older looking dolls, and highly expressive sculpts
      - sewing something complicated only for it to not fit quite right and having to make adjustments after thinking I was finished
      - curly wigs getting tangled even when they're not on the doll (why)
      - shipping takes so long, I understand why it does but I get so anxious.

    34. I have only one thing to rant about right now. Just a bit. When a doll company has only artistic beautiful pictures of their dolls (especially limited dolls), but there aren't any photos where you can see the head, body and face properly. My doll's pictures were so incredibly dark (she's a horror themed doll), that I can't see her too well or the full silhouette or length of her hair (black hair against black background. Yeah.). There are of course pictures of the body on a different page (where they sell only the body), but it would be nice if I could see everything without having to look for all the parts separately. And since she's limited, there aren't any other pictures of her or pictures taken by an owner. Can we please see the dolls blank? Or at least in a proper light and full body pictures? I just want to see what I'm buying.

    35. Wig flyaways. A little wig conditioner works for a bit, but then it dries out and the breeze blows or whatever, and..... POOF. Sigh.

    36. A current peeve is companies that don't post measurements in convenient places or don't have useful measurements (mostly neck circumferences for hybriding). It's such a pain to have to go through a bunch of extra pages to find measurements; just put them with the dolls, please! There's no reason not to. This is kinda nitpicky, but it's so annoying when you're trying to hybrid and can't find measurements. The Wiki on DoA is super useful for measurements, but sometimes it's not updated or the company just didn't provide the specific measurement in the first place. (I'm looking at you and your lack of neck circumferences, Luts!)

    37. I believe I posted in this thread before, but I've got a few small current rants:
-the fickleness of MSC/ZM spray. I've had a few near perfect faceups ruined by one crappy coating of spray.
-faceup woes in general. Making tiny mistakes when getting fairly far into a faceup, and it then ruins it to the point of needing to start from scratch.
-Sculpting elf ears. The whole modding process, making a mistake and having start over, rinse and repeat. And then having a mishap which leads me back to square one. Elf ear mods are my bane.:vein
-Elitism. Seriously, we're all in this hobby for very different reasons, and we all have different tastes and ideas of what we want. It bothers me to no end when people look down on others for not buying from that brand, this size or that price range. Elitists: get your heads out of your a-holes and let people collect what they love without judgement. Do unto others as you would have done unto you, after all.
-the whole recast debate, and the extremists involved in it. Enough said.
-Making wigs. They're just a big pain, but some styles I'm looking for are very customized and hard to find, and getting a custom wig done costs a lot.
-the lack of glow-in-the-dark eyes on the market. I'd love to find a nice pair in blue that I don't have to make myself.
      :dance

    38. No, I haven't heard of a sealant called Testor's Dullcote yet. However, i highly doubt that we have it in crafts stores in my country. Here in Austria we don't really have a big bjd community which makes it even harder to find the supplies for customizing dolls. How much is it though?
I am currently using Purity Seal. It does work really well but it leaves a frosty layer on the dolls face, making the colors a little bit lighter. It also has a lot of texture which is rather noticeable. Although it has some flaws, it still works really well I would recommend it.

    39. - Not being able to find owner photos of a sculpt I'm interested in getting or already have and just really love! TT_TT It seems like most of the ones I like are really unpopular or that people who do own them just don't post photos of them all that much....

      - Finding cute clothes on etsy for msd girls that suit my characters that aren't made for minifees. It's so frustrating when I find the perfect outfit only to find that it's only made for minifees. ;_; My msd girls can't squeeze into that!

      - Wigs placed too far back on a doll's head. This is my most petty of complaints, but at least it's also the most easily fixable one. Just pull them forward a bit and voila! Your already cute doll is even cuter now! :3

    40. I hate how confusing a lot of doll sites are. It's like I have to go on a treasure hunt just to find one item. Unclear item names, strange links and a lack of links. Some of it might be because of the language barrier and poor translation, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

It bugs me so much, when I can't restring one of my dolls legs even. The right one is always looser than the left one. It's been like that since the beginning, but it's annoying when nothing seems to help it.
The lack of my sewing skills is other thing that annoys me... I'm hopeless what comes to sewing clothing for dolls. I wish I would be able to do the clothing for my dolls by myself, but I seem to never be pleased with the end results. Maybe it's just lack of confidence and I just need to stop being so critical towards myself.

    42. One thing that makes me want to rant are few things from second hand doll market.
If you are going to sell the head blank why you post picture with faceup? I have seen few heads with nice faceup and cool pearcings only to find out that seller will wipe it away before shipping the head. Why not wipe the head clean first and aftet that put in on sale?
Same goes with bodies or full dolls. In the picture there is fully clothed doll but on sale is actually nude doll. Why post picture on something you are not selling?

    43. Thisssss...especially on DoA. It specifically says in the MP rules that the first picture in the selljng post of a full doll should be just the doll, naked and nothing artistic. Same for heads; just post a simple picture of exactly what you're selling. If I see only fancy, clothed pictures of a doll that's going to be sold blank without a wig, clothes, or eyes, or a head with a wig, eyes, and a nice faceup that's being sold blank with no extras, I'm gonna think the seller is trying to hide something. It's a bit misleading, or seems like the seller doesn't care enough to take new photos for a selling thread and is just reusing stuff from old photoshoots. Like, if you wanna throw some fancier pictures at the end to show the doll's potential then that's fine, but I wanna see what I'm actually getting before I go into all that.

    44. When Ersa Flora is back up and running, I highly recommend her glow in the dark eyes. I have the blue ones in three of my dolls, and they're fantastic.

    45. - Lack of respect for artists! All artists in the hobby, whether they're total pros out there sculpting, sewing, painting, and crafting the beautiful dolls and accessories we buy or little baby newbies trying out any of those things for the first time, they deserve our respect! Don't recast and steal their work, don't mock their first tries at sculpting dolls or painting faces, and don't complain about the high prices of luxury artisan items that take hours of work and a lot of skill to create! Our hobby depends on us supporting and encouraging artists.

      - Being afraid to follow anyone on tumblr/instagram/wherever when they don't explicitly state that they are pro-artist and anti-recast in their profile description :sigh I can't tell you how many people I've had to block because they ended up being pro-recast.

      - Trying to work out good photo set-ups in cramped spaces! Ugh!

      - Literally everything about shipping. The cost, the stress, the filthy lying USPS tracking info. Both sides (sending doll stuff out and shipping doll stuff in) annoy me terribly.

    46. :o Augh there's so many >,< haha

~ When companies don't include important measurements, and don't show sculpts without face ups!
~ So much drama x-x I ignore it but sometimes it's hard to :o
~ When sellers don't include fees, like not listing they want you to pay pay pal fees, or shipping.. Or when you ask if there is any damage, they will say no only to find there is XD I would have bought it still because of this small thing, but you didn't tell me, that's what makes me upset...
~ Bad pictures!! I don't mean by members of the doll community so much, but when companies are selling dolls and take the photo all from the same angle, or look, it's frustrating because I can't see how the sculpt looks from other angles and different features they have.
~ People complaining about not getting free gifts in their purchases :o
~ When people tell others how they should treat their dolls, or that they don't care about them. For example if someone takes their doll out for a "outing" and people tell them they are treating their doll badly, it's dangerous and bad for them! That kind of upsets me...
~ When sellers list a clothing item and just put something like.. "70cm (company) or other similar" but don't give the measurements anywhere... I mean I can go look up the size, but it is a bit frustrating they don't just put them there :/
~ People who put down other peoples collectibles, like people saying monster high, blythe, whatever are "ugly" or something to their owners :(
~ Random criticism on what is clearly the owners purposeful decision, like telling them that their wig doesn't fit their sculpt, or character, when the owner clearly likes, and chose it...
~ People who complain a lot (looks at my own post* hypocrite X'D), but no, people I guess who just.. Complain over the smallest things but voice it all the time. In threads like this I think it's fine because it's the purpose, but it's always annoying to see people having fun discussion and someone suddenly turn it around with just such a downer comment, or complaining about something :/

I have more but I'll keep it to this ;) don't wanna complain too much haha, I like threads like this better than anonymous confession kind of things.. Plus it's kind of nice to be able to say some annoying, but harmless stuff like this ^ Sorry if i offended anyone who does any of these :o wasn't the intention ;) haha

    47. #1 hobby annoyance is restringing! Some companies are not too bad ( I'm pretty decent with luts dolls) but souldoll.... oh my gosh! It's been a trip!

    48. For me it's less things people do but what they don't do. Lack of information on doll pics (my eternal peeve over at dA, which is why I've stopped browsing doll pics there altogether - if I'm sculpt-hunting and find something that fits and there is absolutely no info about the sculpt to be found anywhere I might as well not waste my time), lack of measurements on company pages - is it so hard to either copy-paste a list of measurements to each sales page, or include a button that leads to a measurements page? - lack of blank pics on sales pages ... that kind of stuff. Makes dolly research super hard and annoys the heck out of me. :eusa_sile

    49. This drives me nuts. I've noticed it a lot lately! If the head is for sale blank, why even have faceuped photos at all? And I really want to know what it looks like under all that faceup, even more so if there're no pics as I'll get suspicious of stains and damage. It's one thing to not notice a little damage, but this seems like deliberate hiding to me.

The fully clothed doll photos of bodies is one of my huge pet peeves lately. I've noticed at least a couple posts where not only is the body not shown, but the type of body isn't mentioned in the sales post. If a company has several bodies to choose from, you kind of need to post which it is. No one is going to buy it if they literally don't even know what they're buying.

    50. Sorry, I've realized something else I haven't asked:

People hiking up shipping/paypal fees in order to cushion some of the blow for selling their doll for less (this is not aimed at anyone in particular)

I -hate- when I respond to an add and later more and more the price just seems to climb.

      EX:
Doll for sale for 250 dollars plus shipping (lets say it usually sells for 500, again, these are made up prices)

Messages go back and forth, they tell you they'll get an estimate on shipping and whatnot. Great, you're interested, invested and attached...juggling around cash so you can pay them via paypal. Next thing you know, after you send they doll (or maybe before) they ask you for paypal fees, quoting you 15 bucks. Great, thats not a lot of money so you change the total to 265 knowing paypal is going to take out their fees. Little do you know, the actual fee they are paying is only 7.55, so they've potentially made a profit off of you, doubling the price of what the fees are going to be.

(AGAIN, This is all made up, merely throwing out make believe numbers (the paypal fee estimate is via a calculator though) I am not trying to attack any one seller/person/etc. If you see this and think "are they talking about me" the answer is no.)

Then you get the shipping quote, lets say 75 dollars (again, just a number). You pay it because thats still less than the 100 dollars it would have taken to ship from the company and they said they have to buy some more paper/bubblewrap/tape as well so you don't really ask to see the estimate. (You're foolish...silly you). Then you get the doll finally only to find that the exact shipping was 20 dollars, what little bubble wrap they used only equated to say... 15 dollars and the other 40 bucks was pure profit on their part.

So in reality, you still had a good deal. You paid 250, plus the 6.45 overage on paypal, plus the 40 bucks they profited from shipping that was all profit for them.

So the 250 doll was really 296.45 with paypal fees and shipping.

This was an example where things turned out better, but I've also seen where the doll was close enough in price by the time someone paid paypal and shipping it would have actually been cheaper to buy from the company and the second hand seller made a profit off of the doll.

That kind of stuff steams my buns.

    51. Ug, THIS! I have three full Luts dolls and three Luts hybrids, none of them are the same bodies or heads. The three full dolls were all purchased head and body separately secondhand, and one of them is a head not meant for the body I chose. I totally know your pain.

    52. Right??? I need a body for my KDF Yul and none of the Luts bodies are really the body type I want, but I don't wanna buy something that doesn't work. Luts, I love you, but it's one teeeeny measurement... :huh?:

    53. When people don't tag their pictures.
I rely a lot on owner pictures on flickr (and insta if I'm desperate) when I shop for dolls. If people don't use tags the search function becomes useless. Sometimes MONTHS LATER I end up stumbling across a picture of that specific doll through someone's favourite, but the owner didn't use tags. It makes me wonder how many pictures I've tried to find but missed because they were aimlessly floating in the void of the internet.

A thousand times THIS. It's so shady and/or lazy!
Take some pictures god damn it. You're not listing some old barbie on buymystuff, you're dealing a few hundred dollars here. Make some efforts!

    56. Super confusing names and sections of dolls. Super Angel Fairy Doll or Angel Super Doll or whatever is kind of... well... by now I know at least one of those is probably a smaller doll, but it's hard on us newbies who don't even know which sculpts we like.
      Or model names of bodies.
I really don't know the difference between BDFasdfadf-11-04 and BDFasdfasdf-11-05 is, aside from the latter is probably newer. @_@ And heck if I can remember which I wanted.

    57. Doll sites that don't put the size of the doll next to the line name.
The fact that fewer and fewer companies post head circumference. Sometime wig size isn't enough!
When companies don't put up sizes, or color comparisons, or size comparisons, or just put them in weird places. What can I say, I'm a hybrider.
When I go to a thread for pictures, but the links are broken. Or I go to a thread for suggestions but the companies are long gone.
When you want something in particular, but no one makes it.

    58. You can buy an an through Alice collections!

    59. YES! Either that, or the sculpt rare in the first place, and you can't even find it in the right resin color you're looking for so you have no idea what it will really look like until you get it yourself! That's really bothersome!

    60. Both of those things happened to me. There were no owner pics, and the company pics were only one shade. See: doll in my avatar.
