Things about this hobby that you find hilarious?

Apr 30, 2021

    1. I have, but seldom. Occasions are - when the doll is in a specific pose and I want to move them wholesale; if they're in a very elaborate outfit and the neck area is relatively unadorned; if I'm grabbing two of them at once. Then I pick em up by the scruff. I'm being affectionate, trust me! I also know someone with 75cm boys who sometimes carries them by the neck, I mean, how else would you carry a 3+ kg resin hunk with one hand?

But the neck is not a stable place, the doll has better handles elsewhere to grab on.

    2. The mental image of you carrying two dolls as if they were kittens who got in trouble is incredibly amusing

    3. Haha! You know, I should take a photo of that someday... :kitty1

    4. don't forget to include the Anpiel looking amused

    5. Peek-Churs! Peek-Churs! What do we want? Pictures! When do we want'em? Whenever @aihre has time!

    7. The Anpiel would be the one who got in trouble I assume :sweat

    8. HOWLING with laughter.
I've never felt so special.

      • x 4
    9. I do that sometimes with my tinies. They're light enough that their bodies won't sag from their own weight, plus I hold them like that very briefly.

Even then, I don't fully trust them. Like the time one of my BID's faceplates fell off when I held her up by the torso and asked Spouse "What's so scary about her?"

      • x 8
    10. I do, but I mean, Nebo is all neck. There is no other place to hold him from

    11. Aight peeps, please don't crucify me for doll abuse.

      Angry boy is angry
      [IMG]

Don't you want to teach that smirky face a lesson
      [IMG]

Seriously, I practically never carry my dolls by the neck, it's like a last resort. It's really inconvenient to grab, there are much better, stabler handles anywhere else. Such the head. Now, wouldn't YOU like to be picked up by the head? :sneaky

    13. Hehehe totally worth it

    14. Tonight's funny find is this accessory with a rather unfortunate placement on the mannequin...

      • x 5
    15. I can't decide it it's too low, or... too high. :wiggle

      • x 3
    16. ...I also have a habit of scruffing my dolls. It allows me to move them without touching their wigs or changing their pose lol. I want that boy to remain seated while I scoot him!

But my big Dollshe Grant Phillipe is the one exception. He's on the pose + body so the neck is a separate joint piece and he'll freaking swivel if held wrong. Gotta support his big, manly butt instead. Like when handling a guinea pig.

      • x 6
    17. Viewing uncle dolls as guinea pigs accepted xD

      • x 3
    18. It's too low. This is a muzzle, not a cage for the twigs and berries.
Although, I am not opposed to someone who wants to be inventive. Never let me (or my translations) stop anyone!!

      • x 3
    19. It could be a muzzle for cobras!

      • x 5
    20. The muzzle could fit all the spare dingdongs in one place!

      • x 4
    21. On a more serious note, what's the point? Given the "optional parts" and BDSM gear everywhere, do people really buy dolls to make 'em do sex stuff? It's kind of sad.

    22. I think most people buy the stuff for the aesthetic to use the kinky elements in their styling? Harnesses are so popular in fashion right now. But honestly it's a hobby for adults and everyone is allowed to enjoy their dolls the way they want as long as nobody else is harmed by it.

      • x 9
    23. Gosh, no idea. :abambi:
I certainly didn't buy some boys just so my girls could torture them. None of my girls are dressed in black leather like Doms.
And I definitely did not buy whips, several sizes of handcuffs, weapons, or leashes from Dollmore.
(If you don't click the links - I have done and purchased all of these things.)

    24. I don't find it sad, I find it hilarious.
Honestly, though, I think it's mostly just an extension of creating characters for our dolls. I mean, we give them fashion styles, political views, favourite foods, taste in music, hobbies, relationships, gender identity and sexuality. Who is to decide what can and can't be expressed with props?
Many years ago I and some friends made some adult magazines in doll scale, featuring photos only of dolls and miniatures, mostly as a joke that we may have taken a bit too far, because of one of my dolls characters who is absolutely the type who would leave that sort of thing lying around.
I, on the other hand, do understand that there are plenty of people who would not get the joke, so I do not leave those props lying around. See the difference?

I think it's important to keep in mind that our dolls are always in some way fiction and while they can reflect certain aspects of the owner, they are is not a direct reflection and should not be taken literally.

    25. @Lilith go figure, I thought this was largely an Asian angle to the hobby.

    26. Hardly. People are people.
Oh, and I think you accidentally @ -ed the wrong user.

    27. I hope I didn't cause drama - I certainly didn't intend to.

Everyone does the hobby a little differently. I mostly buy the BDSM stuff because it greatly amuses me. I've seen the XXX BJD collector photos, and I think they are also hilarious in a very camp sort of way. Like the pictures may have been posted quite earnestly, but I'm just roaring with laughter. (Although I keep my opinions to myself, for fear of offending the photographer/collector).

    28. Oh this looks exactly a scene that my numerous barbies and one ken had to go through 20+ years ago :sweat

This is incredible, I love the commitment  there is truly not a single thing that cannot be crafted for dolls.

Dolls are a great way to explore things through play that we might not be able to otherwise, and obviously it's common courtesy to mark things with NSFW/add content warnings when applicable, but we really shouldn't judge if someone decides to portray adult themes. Sometimes it's also about engaging with, for example, sexuality and gender in a safe way that is not possible for the person irl. And if it's fun on top? Amazing, I love that.

    29. I'm not sure how many of were around back then (definitely a few of us), but there used to be at least one 18+ forum devoted to NSFW BJD stuff. There was a large variety of tasteful, dead fish eyes, and everything between. This is absolutely not a new concept or limited to Asian communities!

This is a 13+ forum though, so definitely don't post them here! Not sure how many people under 18 are still browsing here, but it's better not to expose them to overly sexual images even with a NSFW tag.

      • x 4
    30. As long as the NSFW pics are hidden inside a Spoiler tag and labelled appropriately, I'm pretty sure it's alright to post 'em here (especially if within the topic of hilarious things about the BJD hobby). You can browse here and see a multitude of dingdongs and moobs hidden inside the said tags :lol::lol:

    31. Yeah, there's so much in the world to be angry or upset about, or to cast aspersions upon. Dolls are fun. Dolls can be silly! Dolls can be HI-larious. And that's just how I like 'em. :thumbup

    32. @Darkness Fatale I really don't believe correctly tagged and spoilered is enough, but in the end, it's all up to the mods. Hitting a spoiler button is going to stop 0 children. It is really hard to tell if there are any left here. I won't fight this battle because it is 99% likely to be pointless. I see more people admitting to being over 70 than being under 18 these days.

I would love to see a 18+ forum pop back up again though. An appropriate place to share these would be great. I've taken some (fully clothed) photos that I'd love to post, but are left to only email newsletters between a couple people. It is really fun to photograph relationships that perhaps a child or teen shouldn't try to understand yet.

    33. I think of male dolls who have small young baby faces with burly super muscular bodies......just no....at least for me!

      And it looks hilarious.

    34. A commentator-type Youtuber I watch mentioned this being a very specific Asian "fashion" trend.
      Here's that video:

Apparently it's a distorted kind of beauty standard. And since dolls are created as an "aspirational" projection of what the current beauty standard is, it gets weird really quickly. I don't find it hilarious. I find it kinda creepy and sad.

      • x 4
    35. Oh yes! I agree it is creepy and sad! And reason why I find it also hilarious is because it looks absurd proportion wise! I just got a 75cm boy the other day and he's my first one. I am not used to the scale or the aesthetic of smol head, chad body. It just doesn't look right! Maybe I'm just old school and like my Visual Kei styles...

      • x 1
    36. I started out with the Visual kei style, too. I think the world's evolved into something that I don't quite recognize anymore. But ever since I watched that video I started seeing this trend everywhere, especially in Korean manwha where people get to put this kind of stylization into play. Let's just say... I'm not into it either! :sweat

    37. I do think that aesthetic (of the big man body and boyish head) was, in part, spurred on by Anime. A lot of the Shojin style Anime has the guys with the extremely stylized heads and faces and the manly, muscular bodies. And with villains, it was also common (for quite a while) to have the head be WAY too small (think Younger Toguro in YuYu Hakusho).

I also noticed that the early Volks dolls, and most of the big companies that came immediately after, had a "semi anime" style that had oversized heads with oversized eyes and small noses and mouths that had fully sculpted nostrils and lips. These days, the head is not so oversized, but the features are still exaggerated in a semi-Anime style. It does give a baby-head impression.

    38. Somehow I expected to see boobs with pastries when clicking the link and didn't even think twice (if any bjd companies read this, you may have this idea for free but I want the first cast doll as a gift)

    39. I came back to this thread specifically to check if people were still talking about ding-dongs  that sure carried on a while.

But anyway, I have a contribution. I find it endlessly funny when the general we talk about our dolls with a certain weird mix of personification vs. objectification that comes across as truly unhinged. The funny-cute kind of unhinged. Really tickles me.

    40. Definitely my male SD doll's removable genitalia. I'm used to male dolls having a peen but a peen that you can remove? That's just a bit weird somehow...

    41. how very dare you ringdoll this is an attack against me personally.

honestly if nothing else i think the amount of dolls i love in here proves that one collector's jest is another person's joy, and I love that for this hobby. (that said yes i did giggle at the idea of having to type 'please include nipple piercing' as a genuine request. ah the joys of bjds.)

      • x 4
    42. WAIT.
Is this an option??? All this time. All these dolls I've ordered. I could have asked for nipple piercing?!?

Where's that tiny hand drill? Who's got the biggest nips? Someone's getting new earrings, and not in their ears. :evilplot:

      • x 5
    43. Not sure how I didn't think of doll nipple piercings but did think of doll nipple snoopies. Thanks for another bad idea!!! :doh

    44. I think this might be what you're looking for...
      https://www.princessauto.com/en/20-pc-mini-push-drill-and-bit-set/product/PA0008442782

Not sure I'm a fan of nipple piercings, but hey... if you do take the drill to any of your boys, please share a photo!
It's going to be the new kind of "Press papilla feel good"!

    45. I just want Bast's outfit, Ringdoll. Whomever else can have the doll with the piercings and it's decoration.

      • x 1
    46. I just saw that one today. Not exactly what you'd expect of a doll called Bast, huh? It's definitely a love it or leave it doll that one. I usually love Ringdoll dolls but even if I had the $$$ I think I'd pass on that one...

    47. Magnificent - thank you! And it's a princess drill! To make resin princesses with pierced nipples!

Hmmm... I have some practice busts, too. :wiggle

    48. Man, if they keep doing big be-titted men for the goddesses, prepare yourself for Hathor. Moobs to end all moobs.

    49. I shall have to try to find the photo but I remember the very cursed photo I took when I tried realistic small iris eyes inside an anime styled head… I was honestly just curious about how it would look :’) a few times I also tried a few “interesting” head and body combinations including trying out an EID size head on a Soom Super Gem - which lead to another very cursed image… anyone else ever tried out hybrids that have just not worked??

      • x 7
    50. Ooh, ooh, please share pics. Cursed images are best pictures!

    51. Photos, please! Please find them and share them!!:abow::abow::abow:

    52. @magkelly I just think that there are few bjds that would look great in a pharaoh outfit.

    53. Speaking of cursed hybrids, here's a Volks GrB (Saito Hajime) on a Loongsoul 73 body

    54. I tried my Dollshe Marco head on a SartoriaJ body and it looked ridiculously tiny.

The SartoriaJ head on my Huajing Uncle 47cm body looked rather bobbleheaded. The Dollshe Marco head doesn't fit perfectly on the Huajing body - just a little too small - but it's better than nothing.

That's about it for my weird hybrids. Though I did have a real period of adjustment when I replaced my Bimong body's Chuu head (which she came with) with an Argodoll 1/4 head. Not because the new head looked bad, but it went from kind of cartoony oversized head to actual normal person proportional head.

      • x 4
    55. @Crissaegrim funnily enough I had a similar situation with my Dollshe Rey Lewis (70cm size) I was shocked when I got the doll. His head was so tiny in comparison to my EID men’s heads. It ended up looking better when I tried it on my Sard’s body.

Idk if this makes sense but I find it funny when you get a tiny head with a massive neckhole :’)

      • x 2
    56. Yeah, the neckhole for my Dollshe head (Fashion Maxi 46cm) is shockingly enormous compared to others. Which is great, because it meant I could try it out on other dolls, but it's odd given how small the head actually is.

      • x 1
    57. I finally got a doll with magnetic boy parts. :wiggle

I didn't pay that much attention to the body other then the joints so I was a bit surprised. I called my mother over and we were laughing hysterically as I tried the different sizes on him. I now have my first bag of boy parts.

I still have to do the body blushing on the doll, and I am trying to figure out where to paint 'those parts' and set them to dry. When it's the dolls with them attached or strung on, I don't worry about it, but I don't really want people coming into my room and seeing a row of boy parts on my desk! :XD:

    58. I think it's been tried and true that the magnetic penises make great fridge magnets :abambi:
