Things about this hobby that you find hilarious?

Apr 30, 2021

    1. Mother-------!! :aeyepop: The leaf I understand better for mimicking the old Italian sculptures but the baby octopus!?!

This thread is such a gift that keeps on giving :XD::XD::XD:

    2. Me: Oh, she has a handsome bjd. He reminds me a little of Aladdin.
Me (later): What outfits should I get for my bjds? What if there was a "moob man" Aladdin? Why did I just think of something weird like that?
Me (tomorrow's headline): My bjd watches a romance show where there's a princess that has to choose between an Egyptian King or moob man Aladdin "thief King".
      ...NAHHHHHH.

      Thoughts like these...is this normal??

    3. That is certainly a choice for "undies."

    4. Found it funny that I've been styling almost every boy sculpt into a girl....

    5. Well it's shoe shopping time again and I imagined Idealians at doll meets scrutinizing each other's nearly identical oxfords like the business card scene in American Psycho. Seriously why is it all oxfords... Where is the guy who struts on the scene in fabulous heels I need 9cm heels please

    6. Uh, you're asking the wrong person. I gave up normal a loooooooooooooooooong time ago.

Now. If you happen to recreate this idea - pictures please! :eusa_pray

    7. Love and Deepspace is a very popular otome mobile game right now, so I’d say it’s not all that strange. Who doesn’t like seeing a pretty doll in a themed costume? :XD:

      • x 3
    8. @MaleficentMrsofEvil Hmm.... Well, since you made your wish on post #666, it is now destined to come true, m'lady.
But, don't wait for me to make it. I need some time / help / inspiration to make it happen. I am curious if the right bjd already exists, instead of getting a new one cast for an Aladdin type. Should he have really big eyes? I don't know.

I need to look up that mobile game, I haven't heard of it before.
I have not thought much about themed costumes for my bjds. Just three, so far, But, I think that I would probably be brave enough to make or pay for one of those to be made.

    9. Today I gave myself a little heart attack :sweat If you've ordered the same company's products before, the updated packaging can be incredibly misleading, I guess!

I just got a package and was expecting the doll to come sandwiched between two pillows like before - sort of tied into a candy shaped thing with ribbons. Well there were two pillows alright! That's a good start! Ribbons also there - great amazing wonderful! I remove the top pillow and...
      ...
      ...
      there's no doll

Obviously panicking, thinking where can it have gotten lost, who to call, who to mail, taking tons of photos of the situation... and then I notice a zipper on the edge of one of the pillows. The doll was all cozy inside its sleeping bag :sweat I'm still laughing at myself a while later - I had not been warned!

    10. @cobaltconduct that kind of makes me think of when I got my Dream Valley Paris! The doll came with a big mushroom cap hat that was in a separate box from the doll. I got the mushroom hat in the mail, and the doll was delayed a week for some reason. So I just had a resin mushroom cap near as big as my hand until the doll arrived.

    11. Even after years of being in this hobby, every time I talk about ordering doll parts and pieces to friends I sound like I'm working on a body museum and it makes us laugh.

      • x 6
    12. I did that to my mom the other day, and I sounded like some sort of serial killer, because I was talking about getting an amazing deal on a body with no hands! And to cap that all off, I said “I’m sure the hands jar has a pair that will fit!” As though that’s normal to say.

      • x 11
    13. I love it! The deal on a new body is just too funny. I do the same thing with my mom, talking about floating heads and new bodies coming in the mail. She definitely eyes any boxes that show up for me. :XD:

      • x 2
    14. Ohhhh I know that feeling. I once had a package come from one of the doll companies in china—don’t know which anymore, declared as “human head”—which to them meant, the human version of a sculpt, and not the fantasy version. It got opened at customs, and my beloved post office man did a double take at it, even though he’s used to dolls coming into his post office for me.

DfA also once shipped me a box labelled “naked uncle body” if memory serves, which my post office man laughed at and went “I hope you’re giving him clothes wherever he’s going.” This is why he’s my favourite post office man.

    15. Hahaha you reminded me that back in the day there was an etsy reseller that used to sell these… they always used to pop up when I was looking for BJD clothing on there :XD:
(Sidebar: I still wonder what happened to that specific reseller but they just seemed to dissapear one day)

On the subject of customs forms for dolls. I’ve had “Barbie doll” written on a few of them from various companies.

Doll in photo: beautiful focused gaze and the eye sparkle is just right
Doll in the same photo, 3 hours after you posted: :?

    17. The fact that you can sell a doll only to realise later that you actually need it badly! I'm currently searching for the same head for the third time in a row... Don't even ask how I got myself into this situation. What makes it even more ridiculous is the fact that this head is rare, so the chances I'll actually find one are dangerously close to zero :"D

      • x 3
    18. Ohhhhh I feel that pain!! In like 2016 I sold a pale tan Twigling ingenue head, that I eventually had to way overspend and then dye another coloured head to get something like it back. I’ve sold a fhsh s.Rei only to decide I actually needed him back. I sold soom Vesuvia’s scorpion body twice only to end up digging for a new one. Same goes for my small bust Iple Hid girl body, of which I am also on my third. If it wasn’t so frustrating, it would be funny!

Onto the funnies from my end though, getting doll stuff shipped to my girlfriend’s place, because I live there most of the time, and my girlfriend, who knows nothing about dolls having to sign for a box that said “hands” on it, and then texting me to go “this has got to be yours.” This poor girl has only been dating me since November, and she’s already having to sign for my serial killer packages.

    19. I'm very sorry for all these hardships you've had to come through :( I hope that someday we both reach a point where we're more-or-less satisfied with our doll collections (if that's even possible in this hobby lmao)

    21. When you put an outfit on a doll, like they are going to have a hot date. But, the doll just looks adorable in the outfit, instead. But, it's a doll you wouldn't think could be cutesy adorable.

    24. Wearing a respirator to work on faceups and without fail, feeling the need to imitate Darth Vader even though i don't actually like Star Wars xD

      • x 14
    25. @tinyflame @lutke The other side to this is when you put an outfit on a doll expecting them to look like that hot date... and the doll goes "nope, I don't wanna wear this" and proceeds to look so terrible and awkward in the outfit, that you take it off and vow to never make them wear it again. Hilarious, but also kinda mortifying. These dolls really know what they want or don't want, and who am I to override them?

    28. I've wanted a Migidoll Miracle doll. But, now they made a doll named Incubus? (He IS a tad scary looking, don't look him up. And if you do, maybe look at him from afar because he WANTS you to get close.) And, the only way I can describe him is "horny" or "horns for days". Maybe, a Forkory Demon? I wonder who decided "Now's my chance to release a bjd with every fork imaginable". Do you pose him by himself, or with bjds that he torments with his presence? They just HAD to make someone's creation of what COULD be a Baldur's Gate 3 character.
And, what's hilarious to me is that my brain is predicting they might produce at least two more of these BG3 like inspired sculpts. And, one of them won't be like a certain red muscular lady, nope. If I had to predict one, it'll probably inspired by a tall lady from a different video game franchise.

BTW, the Migidoll Miracle doll that I want, is still the one I would like to have one day. Incubus can't be as fun to have around as a lot of other sculpts. Haha.
(edit: named the wrong doll company.)

    29. lol I don’t have the equipment to play bg3, but I sure saw incubus (you mean miracledoll’s incubus, right? Or does Migidoll also have an incubus sculpt and this is the funniest coincidence ever?)

if they make a tall red muscle lady, I will come out of no-buy early, because holy crows, is that my jam. And I think I know the other tall lady you’re alluding to (a vampire, right?) which would also very likely break my resolve despite never having played either of these games.

      • x 1
    30. I put down the wrong company name!? NOO, that means there is now a Migidoll doomed to be tormented by a Miracle Doll for the rest of its existence, now. Also, Migidoll can make any doll that it wants. They don't have to give us a safe or dangerous Incubus type that the bjd community might like to the point of arguing which is the better Incubus and the answer is "they both want to be loved, so how about you come closer to us [- Incubus and Incubus]". .... I don't know if those two would ever leave room for a tall red muscle lady and a tall vampire lady, to think about.... I would also step out of the "no buy zone" for those ladies you mention @Chameleon . Now, I am thinking about why I shouldn't want all of the dolls.
My mind wondered and looked up Incubus, one country has a dwarf variant called Tintin. They're supposed to be equipped with a guitar? And, then you flash back to some people hear music when an Incubus visits and it all makes me want to run away.

But, yes, maybe I'll have a Miracle doll AND a Migidoll one day!

      • x 1
    31. Haha it’s okay, the only reason I knew about the Miracledoll one is because my friends were sending me pics of the rather well-endowed chest to compare him to a body I recently modded into a woman, with a medium-sized sculpted chest. We suspect the moobs are bigger than the boobs I sculpted, which is entertaining.

In the dnd Hell campaign were in, a lord of hell was pleased with our service to her, and decided to reward us by incubus, as well, so I laughed at you mentioning that they want to be loved, because the incubus we encountered sure was friendly. Our warlock, ever a team player, elected to handle the incubus situation himself, which was very thoughtful.

also yeah. A lot of my recent no-buy indiscretions have been for fantasy resin colours (do dolls dream) and muscle girls (devotiondoll, coral reef and Miracledoll) so either of those two would have me seriously considering.

    32. @tinyflame speaking of which I always love it when someone posts a photo and the caption says "he's so adorable :D" then you look at the doll and he's an actual friggin' demon
      (I completely understand it tho)

    34. I love these drawings it feels about right when trying to fit an SD doll into smaller furniture.

You can get small wooden crates in about any craft store. I like the small narrow ones. I used them to lift up the props that would be better suited for the MSD sized dolls, and make everything SD sized instead.

This is a picture of my bakery, it would go to the dolls legs if I didn't have it up on crates, but it works nicely with a little bit of a lift. SD props, especially furniture can be hard to find at a reasonable price, so I give my furniture a bit of a lift.

    35. @RabbidBunnies oh thanks! Lifting the furniture a little is such a simple solution and I didn't think about it! Nadia will be happy

    36. Well I just learned some male dolls can have detachable genitalia. The human ones seem ok nothing to laugh at but the non human or very non-standard options are hilarious to me.

I won’t yuck anyone’s yum if you want a “rubber duck” magnetized to your dolls crotch go for it. But it’s still funny to imagine

    37. I remember the very first doll that would have an erect dong was more like a joy-stick(lol) controller and could spin like helicopter. It was an actual ball-jointed wiener and we'd just laugh.

But the thing that REALLY made me laugh (in a good way) is when customers would have their dolls try on clothes and would say something like "YUKI IS GOING TO BE SO MAD AT ME" and "YUKI IS GOING TO KILL ME IN MY SLEEP". I'd order stuff for the store that I knew Yuki would hate, but his owner would love just to hear it. I'm not above dressing my dolls in really dumb things so it always amuses me when other people do the same and dial the energy up to 11.

    46. These drawings are so fun. This has also made me understand why in my search for doll clothing there is a lot, I mean A LOT, of lingerie for male dolls. It’s making me want to maybe one day get a male doll with nice pecs just so I can put him in a beautiful bra that cups his man bosoms so nicely.

    56. Since I joined the hobby I've started to notice doll talk in the wild. I've overheard a conversation about antique dolls between some old Romans at a table. One of them was superstitious, porteno iella, "they bring bad luck". Another said they made him uncomfortable, nun se moveno, ma sa' commannano, "they don't move, but it's like they own the place".

    57. That's kind of charming- "they don't move but they own the place." Reminds me of The Little Princess movie, when Sara's dad tells her dolls come alive when we're not looking.

    58. @quilleth it's extremely weird that I'm noticing only now, but dolls come up a lot in conversations. The other day I was told "You know what's Johnny Depp's hobby? He collects dolls! Isn't that silly." Of course that's very silly, a grown adult collecting dolls :abambi:
