Things about this hobby that you find hilarious?

Those of you curious about nipple piercings- yes technically possible to do literally, by actually drilling but it's be terribly FRAGILE.
I have seen excellent results by just gluing the right little studs or rings to either side of a nipple. Do it with a simple water soluble school glue and you could change em out whenever you want a new style.

@MaleficentMrsofEvil a friend of mine once said that a too big head on a too small neck looked like “a baseball cap over a bannister” and I’ve never been able to unsee it, one of the strangest head body combos I’ve ever seen was a larger ID75 size head on a Dollshe Rythmos body… definitely a cursed image

The too small head on a too big neck (like on the dollmore pic) is something I’ve always found so frustrating… had this when trying to hybrid a newer Impldoll Idol man head on an Iplehouse nYID body and I was sure it would fit but alas

 

@MaleficentMrsofEvil yes! I had tried to put my Impldoll Mila head on my Feeple65 body and it didn’t fit at all. I believe the newer Impldoll heads definitely run smaller than the older ones do.

I really wanted to love my Eudora when I had her but that head was wayyyy too small for the old impldoll SGB…

On the topic of hilarious well I once used the magnet from a “fun part” to retrieve another magnet that had got stuck the wrong way round inside a head… worked like a charm

 

I remember this as the infamous "bobble head vs pin head" debate years ago in the DoA forums.

 

Speaking of… years back a company I think it was MiroDoll made a 60cm body with a “thick neck” that was to accomodate EID size heads - the product photo was nothing short of nightmare fuel :’)

 

Having conversations with a fellow BJD owner/enthusiasts in public and seeing non-BJD hear bits of our conversation. Mentioning of body parts especially certain body parts always gets that side eye look from non-BJD people. Heck, I blush sometimes too!

 

The fact that, sometimes, doll clothes may cost more money than human clothes...
I have spent more money on some of my doll's outfits than mine.

Right??? I thrift most of my clothes! It’s been years since I’ve bought new human sized clothing. Meanwhile, for doll clothes, I’m like “only $50. Score!”

 

Having just removed faceup residue from an old doll I gotta say, it is funny to be scrubbing at a little mouth with a toothbrush while trying to get the pastels out of the deep lip crevices. There is one way to be reminded that I'm just playing with dolls over here

 

Off-topic brand but I have to share that I keep reading "ufdoll is made of abs (as in stomach muscles)" to myself and giggling as I look at the 70cm boy bodies.

 

I was hoping that with all the crossdressing dudes going on I'd find girly shoes for 9cm feet, but nope... out of frame at the end of those lacy stockings they wear combat boots

 

That is simultaneously sad but also very entertaining xD

 

I find funny the fact we are a community that can say. "So I bought this body or this head" or "Let me open the head" openly. In a normal setting, saying something like that without context can be shocking or worrying.

 

Even my 65cm lady dorrie finds it challenging to find girly shoes for her size 8.2 - 8.3 cm feet . Only the shoes that came with her heel feet fit perfect.

 

@Darkness Fatale I'm anticipating shopping for a Dollstown big girl... She'll be tomboyish but I like to change style and yep it's going to be difficult to dress her girly I had high hopes for the lace lads.
For 8-something cm feet, look for Dollmore Model F shoes! They're exactly that size (not all of them, but many are 9cm in length, so 8.5cm feet should work). Pricey but the quality of Dollmore clothes is amazing.

My history is going to get weird with the searches for high heels for uncles...

The Cobra one, I can kinda see it for their recent Egyptian releases. It's kinda on theme.
But I have no idea about the tentacles one. How does it even function? Why so many? Which doll will it fit and how does it not look absolutely ridiculous?

I think the monster/fantasy optional bits are funny. I guess that's one way to get around the obligatory censorship required of social media

I think I might prefer that to the slight oddity of extremely detailed muscled bodies with Ken doll style parts though. I can see that working on the androgynous slender bodies but it just seems so off on the BL jacked uncle bodies

I was looking through the Market Place and there's this listing for "head snakes" for Angelheim Zion. All you need to do is look at the photo... now, I've never seen an Angelheim Zion before, but these "head snakes" look like... well, disembodied "head snakes".



P.S.: I sent that photo to another doll friend. Their first response was "Yup, I see what you see. detachable snake-dongs."

All this talk of snake parts reminds me of something I found ridiculous recently: The representation of hermaphroditic(I think it's more of a fantasy interpretation than actual intersex) genitalia on male dolls. I'm not saying that the existence of the parts is funny in and of itself, but it sometimes feels like a very twisted comedy that the female genitalia on the optional parts for male dolls are much more detailed than the typical female doll's genitalia representation(not that I want female dolls to be more detailed).

 

This only means that somewhere there's a head with multiple magnets and those magnets can take all kinds of magnetic dongs

 

To be fair, putting "optional parts" on head magnets meant for horns is probably as old as it is to use them as fridge magnets.
But at the same time, most honed dolls only have two magnets while that zion head had, what? 6? 8? So the possibilities are numerous.

After further reading, apparently the magnets are not attached to the head. They are free-floating and can be placed anywhere. Which means anyone can be Medongsa if they wanted to.

It also means... as long as I have spare magnets, I can stick my T&D boy's spare parts all over his head right now!
OK, time for me to search for more magnets...

This seems a simple enough fix. Small ribbons, tiny jingle bells, maybe some super tiny mistletoe. A fun trip to the craft store. Heck, make a whole chiton out of holiday-themed quilting cotton. Bring the doll with you, when the cutting counter asks what the fabric's for, just gesture to him.

Another thing I find amusing but also incredibly sad is this current ‘jump on the bandwagon’ trend with some companies.
It’s like “Ooh company X has brought out a doll with this face/body sculpt and it seems popular we need to now redesign our whole range to look like that too!” and within a what feels like a few months the market is flooded with a sea of similar looking dolls often to the detriment of their signature brands. I know tastes, styles and trends constantly change and I’m all for updating as technology moves on but changing everything just to follow what’s trendy is going to lead to them falling flat on their non-descript face if they’re not careful. In this hobby standing out from the crowd is much better.

 

I will always find funny the need to buy expensive and beautiful clothes for my doll while I'm wearing worn down joggers lmao
Some doll anatomy leaves me perplex sometimes but I'll admit that I kinda like the extra sausage parts !

 

I personally find the casual doll dismemberment always amuses me. Oh I’ll just swap out their hands, their heads, their boobs, their male bits.

 

To add to both boobs and moobs, seeing dorrie nips being sculpted way too....perky!

On female dorries, I could not dress her in tight fitting clothes without sticking pasties on her so they are not on "alert mode" too much.

 

Super pointy nipples are definitely one of the things that would make me avoid buying a doll because I'm a weenie who finds the thought of sanding them down very scary.

 

When I browse a company's site and there are no dolls for sale I always think of the Monty Python scene with the cheese shop

One of my MSDs has a bra to cover her pointy nipples so she can wear a t-shirt without them being visible. And she's supposedly on the small bust body!

 

My guy is very triangle shaped and also has nipple problems…
