^ Mundane humans for me (though few of them are actually "human" characters). I tried the whole fantasy thing a few years back and it never took. My dolls are all human-shaped.

V What is your favorite clothing style for your dolls? Is this an easy or difficult style to maintain?

 

^ my favorite style is comfy casual like hoodies and leggings. Feather does enjoy a fancy dress every now and then but she usually wears cozy clothes. Its a fairly easy style to maintain, I hope to sew some more clothes in the future.

v Its a sick day, what does your doll do?

 

^ Besides flop dramatically like a delicate Southern belle? Definitely cuddling up with blankets and rest.

<Nephew is sick for the third day... how does one explain that not eating is part of what’s making him stay sick...

V on a scale of Vulcan to soap opera, how dramatic are your dolls?

 

^ not very dramatic at all

^ None of my dolls play video games, but I'd love to have a doll who is a professional gamer someday

v Do you have any preference on eye color? (I love blue eyes on my dolls, so now they all have different shades of blue eyes haha)

 

^ i would like to say i have all manner of eye color, but blue and purple are most common for me.

V similar question: do you have any particular leanings for wig colors? (White and blonde for me)

 

^ I love pink and white wigs, almost all my characters are in those shades or pale blonde.

^ Yeah, Drake has his cigarettes with a overfilled ashtray (nasty) I made for him.
Hunter and Eastlyn have their guitars, Steele his drumsticks, Nimbus his rubber chicken.

v How much does hair under a horn instead of around it bug you? (It bugs me big time)

 

^ Just a little. I don't have any horned dolls myself, and if someone else's doll has that I'll just shrug it off.

v Your doll is being given the runaround by customer service. How do they react?

 

^Emie is the type who keep repeating herself but louder. She's not very patient.

< Ah, microsleeps. Today I learned that sometimes they come with micronightmares. I just jerked awake at my desk thinking I had been looking into some kind of dark hole and it was suddenly swarming with tiny bugs and went oh my god out loud.

v What is your favorite doll's least favorite thing?

 

^ Violet doesn't like anything blue.She might stretch herself to a pastel blue if she must but in general everything must be pink and purple and shiny.

< I need to make more doll clothes, this is an issue. So many dolls in the wrong clothes.

v Are most of your dolls bought direct from the company or bought secondhand from other collectors?

 

^ Direct from the company. The only time I ever get off my lazy rear to look at the secondhand market is when there is a discontinued sculpt that I love beyond all reason. Otherwise, I want them fresh out of the mold.

< Worried about my boy, who's being shipped from an artist in China...and tracking is questionable.

v Have you ever commissioned a faceup from an artist whose work you love...and been less than thrilled with the results?

 

^ I've never commissioned before, I thought about it but I'm too worried to ship my doll to a stranger.

v what does your doll do to relieve stress? Hobbies? (Feather likes to watch cartoons and Fluke likes to knit.)

 

^ Joaquin likes to swim to clear his mind. Sometimes he even goes scuba diving.

v Do you have non-human dolls? (I'd love to have a mermaid bjd someday!)

 

^ Several, between the fauns and the centaurs and birds, i have many nonhuman kiddos

< I'm starting to take after my dolls, i too discolor in the sun and don't take too well in the heat.

V Cringy moments with doll care? (I sold a head that the gal set in her window for three months and complained that the color didn't match when she got the white body and insisted i didn't tell her the right color)

 

^ The first time I removed MSC from a doll head (that had a faceup for 10+ years) the doll started to get white spots. I immediately had a panic attack...seriously thought I messed up my discontinued sculpt. Luckily the girl doing the faceup was a friend of mine and explained it was normal. I am very thankful to her walking me through that extremely stressful time and will probably pay to get a faceup removed, lol.

< I might be ordering another doll...I don't need another doll.

v Worst or Best BJD experience?

 

^ Best and worst was... so I had to move in a hurry at the beginning of May. Like, I was being kicked out but I couldn’t take time off work even though it was an emergency. I had to rely on my mom, brother, and his friend to pack all of my belongings, and I was panicking I was gonna lose a lot of my things including my large collection of dolls. The worst was the concern about losing any of my dolls, then that they would be damaged. A week ago, I was able to get my entire collection (about 30) out of storage and took pictures of each of them and after I checked on the last one, I started crying in relief because they were all there and they were okay.

< Now I’m teary thinking about how worried I was... I love my resin family...

V I once had a doll show up with a broken head (damaged in shipping) and it made me cry even though I considered myself to be a very calm person and able to take anything in stride. Have you had sudden overwhelming moments since joining the hobby?

 

^ I'm glad they were all okay! The first doll that arrived (a secondhand one I bought while waiting for one bought from a company) was fraught with concern. The experience felt dodgy, but was actually fine, it was really touch and go though. Such as when the doll finally arrived she was very badly wrapped in a tiny piece of bubblewrap. She survived but wow. I was really unimpressed and stressed with that experience.

< Really don't want to go to work today.

v If you had no dolls right now, how would you go about putting together a collection with all your current knowledge of sculpts and the hobby. Maybe which three dolls would you go for to start this new collection and why?

 

^ Hmmm, I'd stick with my unusual mature tiny scale, but avoid single jointed dolls. My top picks (that I own) would be Xagadoll Ken, Granado Lucifer, and Dollzone Wendy.

< I'm now considering re-thinking my collection...

V Have you ever restarted or partially restarted your collection? Why?

 

^ uhhhh... (looks at the deluge of sales posts I have to post and the hot mess that is currently my collection) yeah. I’m doing that right now.
Honestly, my characters were half truly mine—as in the people from my fantasy series, who I was invested in—and half not, as in characters from a really messy role play with my ex. I’m probably redoing that world as a whole—maybe even with some familiar characters—but not for awhile. And most of them don’t feel right anymore. I was 16 when I made them. They aren’t who I want anymore.

V has anyone else here basically just overhauled their collection? Why?

 

^ I have! I slowly shifted to 70cm dolls after collecting mostly 60cm for years and have been trying to get my collection more cohesive ever since. I've gotten rid of most of my Mini's (I had so many) and am down to just a few now. I have also ditched a bunch of characters I'm just not attached to and tried to streamline the ones I want to keep or get them to scale with the bigger ones - which included some reshelling. There are a few more who may or may not stick around and I'm pretty much done with buying - I have two heads that need bodies currently and one is a huge work in progress and won't be getting one until the head is done (who knows when that will be!??) so really, just one body. And then I just want to work on getting my current collection perfect.

V passing the question on because I am curious: has anyone else here basically just overhauled their collection? Why?

 

^ My collection was very small for a long time, so I had a few false starts. I had one SD girl - but I sold her, then got a new head, then a new body, and sold them both. I was so focused on getting this one doll right that I didn’t really expand until I did.

I have always planned for four of my OCs - two guys and two girls - but I recently found myself with three guys (two of which weren’t planned) and my main girl. I’m in the process of selling one of them and I’ve made a concerted effort this year to seek out girl dolls because I enjoy them more.

V What’s the biggest change you’ve made to your collection?

 

^ I used to have SDs, tinies and a mini, but one day I decided to keep only SDs and sold all the smaller ones. I miss small dolls actually, so I may get some when I don't want more SDs

v Has this ever happened to you? The situation is you really want this doll so you place an order, but when the doll comes home you just feel too lazy to do anything with that doll or you just want to take a break from the hobby even though that doll is the one you really want. If yes, how long did they stay in the box?

 

^ I have had dolls arrive in the middle of a low-motivation phase, but their arrival "re-motivated" me for a bit. I got their faces and wigs done, and got them some sort of stopgap clothes, before my motivation fizzled out again. (It also didn't help that I had been planning to order the sculpts later but was rushed by discontinuations, and the time just wasn't right. I'm still glad I got them, but I haven't done anything with them yet except finish them enough so they're somewhat presentable.)

< Oh. My. Word. "Operation Move The Dolls" has begun, I've been undressing and re-boxing dolls for what feels like hours, the diorama is finally empty(ish) BUT there's a legit dozen more of them in the closet and I don't even have boxes for all of them. I also thought I knew everyone's boxes, but hahahahaha nope.

v Have you ever moved house with your dolls? How did it go?

 

^ I haven't yet, but I'm getting married later this year and I'm not looking forward to it. (The moving bit, not the wedding!) I have 4 msds right now but my 3 sds on order will actually most likely all be here by August. So I'll have 7 to move! Not terrible by any means, but I'm already scared for their fingers. At least only two dolls have professional faceups and one of those has a box. If I scratch the others faces I'll just redo them. Though I'm definitely keeping all those darn coas in one place.

< Dang it. Now I'm worried about my wedding again. Excited! Incredibly excited and happy, but there's so much to plan and I'll be leaving my parents house for the first time and moving into a teeny shared apartment. Also fiancé hasn't met my doll collection. He's seen pics but that's it.

v Is there a fantasy color you just wouldn't own a doll in? Why or why not

 

^ im trying to think, because I love fantasy resin. I hoard red and purple dolls, and I want a light blue or green twigling girl, and I have a boy who’s going to be golden, if I make him. I love obsidian (I’m going to have a doll in it too!) and paper white can be pretty fantasy as well painted up right. I probably wouldn’t do a doll who was neon, mostly cause I wouldn’t know how to style them, and cause I get eye strain easily, and headaches. That said, especially because I can turn screen brightness down, I think seeing pics of that could be cool.

<dang... one more twigling preorder, possibly. I gotta be in on that.

V is there a fantasy colour you would like to see more of on dolls?

 

^ Clear.

v Is there a fashion style you'd like to see more of, and in what size?

 

^ I'd love to see more clothes for fashion-sized boys (for example, Iplehouse FID and Raccoondoll) because it's not fun when you can't sew but you need nice clothes for these gorgeous boys. I love casual style so I'd say I want to see more of casual clothes for them.

< Low motivation for doll stuff but feeling great with my life. It's a good time to get serious things done and come back to dollies later.

v Do you like kissing your dolls? (I do like kissing their small heads. I can't help it. They are adorable even my big ones)

 

^ i do! I love kissing my dolls and plushies! They're so adorable, how could I not?

v do you change your dolls clothes often? Or do they stay in their outfits? (I do! I love changing and mixing outfits!)

 

^ I change my dolls' outfits all the time! It's one of my favorite things, haha!

v Have any recent releases blown you away? Which ones?

 

^ LoongSoul's ZhuZhao recently made me do budgeting, not only because of his breathtaking promo pics, but also because he's spot-on for the son of my two main doll characters. And while I am safe from buying them, DC's reveal of Laraine and Xiaoli really caught my eye because of all the artistry involved.

< I finally finished Dormant-Adhara's wig after three months! At last, she could finally go to the faceup artist so she will no longer be blank.

v Have you played any tabletop RPG (DnD, L5R, etc.) using your dolls' characters? Any memorable adventures to share?

 

^ well, I’m making my 5e death cleric as a bjd, and most of my party hasn’t seen her, but being Neutral Evil and our only healer on a party of 7, I have stories about her. Vidania basically lives her life trying to avenge her wife, who dies seven years ago. In session 2, she finds out her wife is somehow alive, and in a town 2 week away. So she travels with her party the first 13 days of the trip, because she can’t exhaust the horse too bad. On the 13th day, it’s her job to keep watch, and onstead of doing that she steals one of their two horses, and rides him directly to Featherfall before the party, leaving them down a horse and without a healer. They changed my name to “gay horse thief” in the group chat, until I saved them, and changed myself back to “our lord and saviour, Vidania.” She’s not modest.

V anyone else make a doll of a character from a tabletop game?

 

^ My incoming Resinsoul Mu is going to be my 5e tiefling zealot barbarian. I love my angry son! His rage is triggered by fear, and he's afraid like 75% of the time. He was raised by an evil cult his mom leads and was never away from home before now. He's very sheltered. Very unaware of how things like bartering work. He's huge, dislikes shirts, and dual wields axes. Also is the youngest of 7 brothers and is trying to bring dead ones back to life.

< I hope work gives me the time off to go on a teeny vacation with my fiancé. Rollercoasters are on the to do list. I've never seen him on one before.

v Do you prefer wigs with natural fibers (mohair, wool, etc) or with synthetic? Why?

 

^ i really love mohair wigs! I love that they're so fluffy and soft, and that they can look so real!

v do you like to talk to your dolls? (I do, especially when I'm posing them)

 

^ OMG Yes!! I talk to them about everything. When I sit at my desk I like to have at least one doll with me so if I run out of idea for my work, I complain to them, or if the team I cheer for is winning, I scream along with them (as if they scream too lol). I talk to my dolls when I dress them up too!

< Waiting for my most loved doll to come back from getting new face-up. I've missed him so much. I was dying to see him again.

v Do you collect eyes even though none of your dollies wear them? (I don't but I want to collect some fantasy eyes like Oscar eyes. My dolls don't wear any of those but the eyes are soooo pretty!)

 

^ i don't collect them persay as much as i buy them for the character and if they don't work out i only sometimes will sell them depending on the eyes.

< ugh everything hurts...

V How long does it usually take you to acquaint the perfect items, wig, clothes, eyes...? From concept to delivery, do you wait until they arrive or do you start prep beforehand?

 

^ I start pretty much from the moment I pay for the doll. It's a fun way to pass the wait, and generally the clothing and eyes turn out to be exactly how I envisioned the look when I put them on him/her, but wigs are a different story. Somehow they usually don't suit at all, and I have to run through at least two or three more before I'm happy. I have so many unused wigs I could open a store.

v With the absurd cost and somewhat addictive nature, have you ever wished that you had simply never discovered this particular hobby - in an 'ignorance is bliss' sort of way?

 

^ Oh No Never! This hobby, even as expensive as it is, has been a life saver for me. It has kept me moving creatively, socially engaged and I've met some really wonderful people world wide.

< My RD Sol maybe stuck in Houston's sorting house blackhole for the day. I hope not but it still looks like he won't get here until Monday. Surprise me USPS!

v Is closely following delivery tracking (on any package) one of you newly acquired skills since owning dolls?

 

^ not anymore! I checked the tracking of my last doll once, and got a bit of a supriss because he was two days earlier than I expected!
I *used* to check trackings several times a day, everyday, like a normal person :P

V how old is your oldest doll vs how new is your most recent one?

 

^ My oldest doll that I don't put them on sale is 8 months old (an oldest one I put on sale is one year old). My newest doll is a week old or so. I buy and sell dolls all the time that's why their ages are like this, but there is a guy I'd love to have him forever: the one I use as my profile picture.

< Baby come back to me (please!). I'm dying! (My doll is getting a new faceup and one month feels like half a year lol)

v If you can buy all dolls you want, who are your top 3 you want to get?

 

^ Boypink muscle girl body, MDR Fang in caramel/cookie and an off-topic Eve Studios cat. AKA my entire wishlist.

^ My Oasisdoll Natalie. She's now 50cm - nothing fits and she's impossible to hybrid.

^ I guess it'd be Fluke and he'd be a pukipuki, thats just so small and different for me! I wouldn't know what to do!

v do you have music for your dolls? Any songs that they love?

 

^ Yes! I have music that inspired me in creating a doll and that one will become their theme song. My main guy used to love Hymn For The Weekend but now he has changed.

< First positivity for today: I'm alive and fine

v Have you ever seen your dolls while sleeping and dreaming?

 

^ Yes, this has happened several times now. In fact, the most recent was just a few days ago. My main girl's L5R persona (different from my crew's "canon" story) still had some aspects in her backstory that needed to be established, mainly whether or not she was married prior to meeting my main boy's L5R version. To cut the long story short, I dreamt (or rather, had this weird nightmare) where I was in a shared consciousness with her, and I basically saw that her/our spouse was presumed dead after an avalanche. While I was pretty shaken from the dream, I thought, "Well, Adhara hath spoken" and thus her L5R self now had a husband presumed dead after an avalanche.

< Wow, $20+ worth of fabric for doll use. That's costs a lot more than usual, but the things you do to get the costume just right.

v Seconding the above question. What's the most memorable dream you've had of your dolls?

 

^ Actual dream, was a nightmare that a former friend threw my first boy away after saying he was trash and i couldn't find him. It was a stressful time and it was traumatic for me...

< Ugh too hot! So muggy i can't even work on my kiddos...

V have you come across any deals that you were super proud of?

 

^ I've had the opportunity to buy dolls from a local collector, those really pleased me, largely because I love those dolls but also because I didn't have to pay for any shipping or be anxious while wondering if the dolls would arrive well packaged or damaged or at all if the person wasn't trust-worthy. Buying from friends is the best!

< ugh really don't want to have to do this interview today.

v Have you taken your doll/s into public? What reactions have you received?

 

^ Yes, I took them to doll events, doll meet and the pier near my place (for some photos). Doll people looked at my doll just like I looked at theirs, and there was a person excitedly asked me to see his face clearly. When I went out to the pier, there were not many people so I felt comfortable with photoshooting. Some people just looked at my doll curiously and some did not mind. I didn't receive negative reactions (if I ever received one, I'd surely fight them because I have no fear lol)

v What skin color you'd love to see more and maybe own? (For me, I love sweet violet and lilac but I don't see the color much in big dolls)

 

^ i love the light pinky white of Peakswood dolls and i would like to own a white skin doll someday!

v do your dolls have a favorite movie?

 

^ Ava loves The Princess Bride. She'd secretly like to have that beautiful crown and also be able to wield a sword like that.

v Have you ever seen a doll that was so beautiful/fascinating/etc that you didn't want it to have a face up so as not to hide the sculpt?

 

^Yes, mostly male sculpts, just a slight blush to the cheeks and lips wouldn't hide the sculpt.

< I'm so tired of waking up to 80°+ in the morning, I want my nighttime cool down please.

v Do you like the hyper realistic body blushing that some people are doing to dolls, and would you like one?

 

^ Yes, it looks so amazing! But I don't want to pay so much for one. It would make me too afraid to handle the doll. I hope someday I'll be good enough to do them.

v Which of your dolls do you feel has the best blushing job?

 

^ Well, Feather only has her face blushed, but I love it so much! I do plan to blush her hands and feet one day, but I don't care for body blushing.

^ I am pretty much their doctor and they seem to trust me no matter what I do to them.

^ Hate them. I have one doll that has fangs, a Dollzone Leo, who I adore. XD

< I'm so nervous about the Dollshe I ordered.

v Have you ever been nervous about ordering a doll or doll items?

 

^ Yep. When I sent out a headcap to get a color match. And then it seemingly got lost. Or when I ordered through an agent with an little-known company. Right now I am worrying over an off-topic that was cheap enough that I figured I would order it without tracking. And I am regretting it because I am worrying so much about and I can't reorder it if it gets lost because it's out of stock.

v What's one doll feature that you can't get enough of?

 

^ Expressive hands and eyes. I absolutely adore the sculpting on Volks SDGR hands!

< I was feeling frustrated with my SID boy so I put him up. I took him out the other day and I'm feeling a lot better, haha!

v Have you ever had a doll that you had to take a break from?

 

^ Yes, actually I am taking a break from my newest doll. I don't know if I could get back to him and take care of him like other dolls I own or just put him on sale because I really have no idea what to do with him. I've never had this issue before because I always know what look I want to see on each of my dolls, but this guy is so different and he speaks nothing to me.

v Do you buy birthday cake for you dolls on their birthday? (Or maybe giving them birthday gifts?)

 

^ I haven't in the past years because I'm not with my dolls, but I do love buying them birthday gifts!

v What's your dolls ideal day?

 

^ For Ava, my little one, it would be any day where she gets to stay close to Eamonn. They're not related but he's like an older brother to her and she feels so much better about the world when he's around. Other than that she'd like to read books and drink tea like a grown up.
