v what's the worst experience with a doll company you've had?

 

^ Oh my, that one goes to AprilStory ... next to a year of waiting because they had overlooked the first layaway payment and not gotten suspicious that the remaining two were numbered second and third. It was only when I enquired that they noticed I had in fact paid off my layaway ... from then on it took another half a year for them to actually fork over my dolls. But considering the currently ongoing clusterf*** I got off easy ... at least I got my dolls!

v Sooo what was your best experience with a doll company?

 

^ Doll Leaves. I lucked out and they emailed me that the doll I wanted was in stock from someone else's cancelled order, so he shipped in like a day and arrived before the week was up. I wasn't expecting it but it made me so happy!

< I really should be sleeping, but how can I sleep when there's so many pretty dollies to see?!

v How big is your dolly closet currently?

 

^ its pretty big, I have a whole set of drawers dedicated to dolly clothes. I want to start sewing too which will only add to the closet!

^ They exist in a fantasy would close to around 1800, so nope

V How many dolls are too many dolls for you?

 

^I originally said 10. But I'm at about 23 now... so... I'd have to say 30 . LOL. Sometimes I actually think my 23 is too much but I have a hard time parting with any.

< I'm really craving some roleplays, but too lazy to seek out new ones. xD

v Have you ever purchased a doll you never thought you'd own?

 

^ Yup. Picked up a Fairyland that I wouldn't ever own.

v While we try not to, who is your favorite doll?

 

^ I don't even try, John is my favorite (Ringdoll K- Dollmore model hybrid). But right now I'm super into my DC inspired dolls. Batman is coming together amazingly well and I'm in love.

V Passing it on because I feel like I have answered this a few times: Who is your favorite? You have no choice...pick one.

 

^ I'll pick Elliot. I consider him my first (bought first and got a body first) and he is also the one I shop for the most. Plus the character is insecure and I know that while the other could handle not being pick well, he... wouldn't. Ollie is also super cute, though.

v You dolls come to life and descend upon you, demanding stuff! What are they asking you for?

 

^ Clothes ><;;;;;

< Overhauling the characters of your dolls so certain characters can get shelled in a different size sounds like a great idea until you realize now you're going to need 9 new wigs at $25 a pop o_o

v whats the most frustrating doll item for you to find int he right size? (eyes, shoes, ect)

 

^ Shoes, right off the bat (specifically, for 65cm girls and 70+cm boys). I've had to put several shoes up in the market almost immediately after they arrived because the measurements didn't exactly work in real life. (Poor Guórén only has one pair of good footwear to this day.)

< Getting a bit impatient to send off Adhara's dormant head to the faceup artist, but I have to finish her wig first!

v Say, you got turned into a doll, and one of your BJD crew gets to turn into a living, breathing person to take care of you. Who among them would you choose, and why?

 

^ Ooh interesting... my crew mostly.based off the anime/manga Outlaw Star. It is made of a lot of humans, androids, anthro, aliens, fairies, a Vampire and dragons. I'd have to pick a non-human for the most fun. Maybe Motte (moth fairy) or Aurora (undetermined fairy) but their powers work better together... Scotty (dragon when he gets his new body he'll be more anthro) would be attention grabbing. Fred is human and resourceful in his universe unsure if would cross-over/apply. Jim may be my best option. He's human, the smartest (sorry guys) most level headed and could problem solve a reversal (or make everyone alive haha). I also think he'd be respectful to me as a doll (can't say Gene would). I would have picked Tifa (she's sort of me) but less chance of a reversal and she's more old me.

< Ever growing wish list... and projects. Overall dream to have a room for everything doll/sewing/craft related.

> What company/sculpt retired or went away that you regret missing out on? (Or is hard to find/became a grail if still wishing for one?)

 

^ Lol, almost all of my dolls could be described this way. I found them all eventually! Oasisdoll Natalie, Rosettadoll Agave and Zio, and Edelweiss Gideon definitely all qualified. I think now the only limited/rare doll I'd love to own is Volks Creamy Mami or some of the older Elfdolls.

<The weather today is so pretty! I'm so glad winter is coming to an end. Can't wait to get out to take some photos!

v Do you have any dolls that you thought you'd never find? If you're still looking, which doll are you trying to hunt down?

 

^ I'm trying to find a Twigling Ingenieuse, which is far easier said than done!

< Ear is hurting and I've been having a stranger cat try to come into my apartment a couple times in the last couple of days which can be inconvenient because i already have one.

v Whats your preference between fantasy and non fantasy dolls?

 

^Fantasy yaaaaas

< a little birdie told me a discontinued limited is making a comeback and my wallet isn't ready.

v what's one limited doll you regret not getting?

 

^ Loongsoul human Baize. He was perfect for my OC
< I have gotten another sculpt to shell that OC, although his younger version not older version, I wanted at first.
v What is the longest you waited for the doll?

 

^ 54 weeks after I ordered him. I sold him within a few months.
< I wonder if I can remember to water the plants, I'm so bad at that.
v Are your characters good, neutral or bad. Slice of life or drama city.

 

^ They all started out good but lately, and I mean like within the last month, 2 of them have gone bad >.>;
More slice of life than drama still tho.

< Getting ready for dinner with the bf. My dad is meeting his parents for the first time tonight. :>

v You have to get rid of every doll and outfit except one. Which do you keep?

 

^ Oh god, that's hard. My Oasisdoll Natalie, and she has a green floral dress that's my favorite piece.

< Spring in Chicago is one step forward, two steps back...

v What are you waiting on right now?

 

^ I've just sent a head for a faceup to a wonderful artist in China, but I'm very nervous about his trips, both going and coming, through the postal system!

< The end of one gutter suddenly started to fall off of my house today, and I can't even climb up to assess the [insert expletive here] thing because it's pouring outside.

v Do you find that one, perfect look for your dolls - outfit, wig, eyes - and leave them like that for eternity, or do you change them out for a whole new look on a regular basis?

 

^I have a couple who are in their 'outfit' and others that change weekly.
This is one who basically found his look and is keeping it.


< Please be spring fever/allergies and nothing worse.

v Do you like mood lighting or bright portrait lighting for your photos?

 

^My house never gets good light. It's either super bright or so dark the dolls look like cats under the bed. I'd like pretty much any light in my photos that you can see better!

< Been up since 3am and can't sleep but can't convince myself to get out of my warm bed either...

v If you could do one thing over in the hobby (whatever it is, some mistake or regret, remake some early project, etc...) what would it be and why?

 

^ I would've taken the time to visit the Volks mansion in Los Angeles when it was still standing.

> I wish I had more time to replenish myself and do things that will benefit me.

v How often do you take your resin children around town to take pictures of them outside of a doll gathering?

 

^ Usually when I go visit my girlfriend in Nottingham, so once or twice a month, though I am trying to get braver with bringing a doll out with me if we're going somewhere scenic

< Waiting on the brownies to bake, I changed up the recipe so I hope they turn out okay!

v If you could travel anywhere in the world to get your doll the Perfect Profile Picture, where would you go?

 

^ I'd go to Europe for historical buildings, churches, and castles for Eshne!

< Iiiiiiii need to clear and reorganize the doll shelf, its a bit of a disaster right now.

v how do you display your dolls?
Sitting/standing a shelf? In a roombox? Maybe tucked away in their box?

 

^ A bit of everything. Some are sitting / standing in the diorama, others are (mostly) standing on a shelf, some others are in the cabinet that's getting too small to house them all. High time I move, I need more space for my dolls.

< A friend who semi-recently got into Monster High modding met my Shire folk today. I'd say I secretly hope for her to catch the resin bug, but there's nothing secret about it, so ...

v Did you ever get anyone else interested in the BJD hobby?

 

^ To some degree anyway? I intro'd my mom to them, and even customized one especially for her, and a friend of hers (and mine) now has adopted the first MSD I got.

< I wish I had time to do some faceups, but alas: I have a lot of work left to do for my portfolio. Also, still waiting for my Simply Divine Thomas to arrive...

V What is the craziest idea you've ever had for a bjd character, and have you actually gone through with it's creation or not?

 

^ Does it count if they're not my characters? Because I think the Joker who has his face cut off, then wears it like a Halloween mask is pretty crazy to have as a doll and I did that. Also the Batman who Laughs - he's in progress.

> I have one more head on order and then am I done buying dolls?? After all their bodies anyway. Sigh.

V What is a complete collection to you? Do you have it, or is there an end in sight? Or is it an unattainable goal?

 

^ I don't know if I'll ever have a complete collection. I have a teeny handful of characters I want to shell, but all my current dolls are their own people and unattached to a story. I guess I'll be done when I don't see a sculpt I'm dying to have. Which I never really see happening. Or if I can make myself stop impulse buying!

< I might be getting married this year, and my boyfriend hasn't really seen my dolls. He says they're cool and they don't bother him but he's only seen 1 of them...

v Have you ever been to a convention? Did you take one of your dolls with you?

 

^ Ive never been to a dolls specific convention (yet!), but I go to anime cons usually once or twice a year.
I've been bringing dolls to them since I started in the hobby, even organized a few at-con meetups!

< Im SO READY to start a layaway for DC Xaivera, just as soon as DC officially re-releases her for sale!

v What comes first for you: character or the doll?
Do you buy dolls to shell characters, or build characters to suit the doll?

 

^ So far it's been character first, but I think that's partially because the dolls are hard to get so I have to have a reason to go looking... The only exception in my current collection is Myou FengLinger. I just thought she was cute.

< I've already bought a doll and a head this year... So why do I keep shopping?!

v If you could create your dream BJD-maker, what would they offer? (More fantasy sculpts? In-between sizes? Anime style, or realistic?)

 

^ Easy. Realistic (Iple / Granado style) heads, bodies that pose like IoS, heads and bodies sold separately. Also, mature guys no taller than 68cm. I'd be so broke.

< Life, u weird.

v Good question though, passing it on! What would your dream BJD maker offer?

 

^ Chibis. Cheap chibis with interchangeable parts and lots of resin colors and body types so I can make a chibi army! I have half a mind to sculpt them myself (though off-topic, probably), but I have zero experience with sculpting whatsoever.

v If you could magically tweak one doll, what would you change about them?

 

^ I only have the one head at home right now, but I do have something I'd like to change: she's french resin!!! Magically tweak her resin to fit with newer urethane bodies

< Magically tweak my wallet to buy her a body would be a good too :P

v is there was one doll you could have in a different scale, which one would it be?

 

^ Chisa, my Volks SDGr. She's lovely and well-engineered, but I bond better with minis and tinies.

< I should be writing, but the draw of procrastination is strong

v What doll related project are you procrastinating with?

 

^ Doing/getting face-ups. I have plenty of floating heads to practice on. Maybe later this week! There are a couple of heads that I definitely want to ship off to someone more skilled.

< I feel like the hardest part of waiting for a doll is right after they ship.

v Do you collect one size of BJD or a variety?

 

^ I have a variety but my favorite is 60-72cm dolls. I have from 1/12 up but only a few of each. The majority are big boys.

< Gotta rewatch my favortie animes while the new season gets a few episodes loaded.

v Does your doll collection follow a theme or just what you like?

 

^ A few themes, really. Most of them are characters from stories I tell myself I'll write someday even though I know I won't. Sometimes, though, it's just whatever I find cute.

< Finally got over my nervousness, dove in, and dyed my Dollstown Elf Jun! He looks really good, and I'm actually pretty proud.

v How does your smallest BJD compare to your largest? If you have one, show us a picture!

 

^ My smallest is probably a Mushroom Peddler doll - I forget the name (mine is named Sophie) - but it's tiny and an octopus. My Biggest is Harry Dresden who is a Granado Pancho on a Ringdoll RGM03. He's not as big as my EID, but he's close, and taller. So he's my biggest....but I don't have a pic of them together. I do have one of John with Sophie, he's 69cm and skinny so no where near my biggest.

V Do you collect different sizes and scales, or try to stick to one?

 

^ Right now I have two YoSDs and an SD head. I started my collection from scratch, and decided I wanted chibis and regular adult versions of my Larika characters, so for now I'm sticking to those two sizes

V Have you ever attended a BJD convention?

 

^ Nope. I went to an anime convention once back in high school??

v Have you ever put off selling a doll just because you dread the process so much?

 

^ I may or may not be doing this right now, haha! I have a couple of dolls I'm not in love with, and they could definitely be swapped out for the bodies I sorely need.

< I'm so excited to have another girl doll! They're my preference but somehow I ended up with more boys...

v Stealing an earlier question: If you could magically tweak one doll, what would you change about them?

 

^ Hm... Mostly head to body proportions, I think. Make Nova's head a little smaller, Xy's head a little smaller, Sky's head a little bigger... Just to make them better match the others in their story sets.

< Kids are the cutest. Volunteering at our local toy lending library is one of the highlights of my week.

v What's the best time of day for you to get doll projects done?

 

^ Late morning and early afternoon. Sunlight and motivation are at their peak. But it's also a good time for a lot of other things, so they might get pushed back after all.

v Which of your dolls do you think is the cutest?

 

^ I only have one, so I'll have to say my Unidoll Momo

v How many dolls are on your wishlist?

 

^ At the moment none, surprisingly. Though I do need to replace a few bodies that are single jointed that is a long term goal.

< I still need to clean up my mess in the workroom, ugh but it needs to be done.

v Do your dolls/characters leave messes for you to clean up?

 

^ The dolls definitely do. I don't have a studio, I use the dinning slash craft room. So all my project messes have to be put away as neatly as is humanly possible. Right now it's a mess and I have people coming over Saturday....so it's all got to be packed up.

V do you have any dolls that just did not work out for you? Share the experience!

 

^ My SID Edan. He's beautiful, but is actually too small for his character. I was nervous about how big 70cm dolls are, but I think I'm going to replace him with an EID that suits his character more.

v Do you like to mod your dolls or leave them as-is?

 

^ I prefer to leave them as is, but I'll mod if I feel I have to. It's just a last resort for me.

v Do any of your dolls have sleeping heads/faceplates?

 

^ One, my DS Bernard. But I am planning to grab a second Stella so I can mod her old, yellowed head to sleeping face and leave the new as the awake version. I wantsss more sleepy faces, yes precious.

v Is your (favourite) doll's characer more of a lone wolf or more of a pack animal?

 

^ Don't even gotta pick a favorite, they're all clingy!! Due to various trauma... except in Emie's case, where she just raised in a literal (were)wolf pack so being alone wasn't something she ever really had to consider.

< Payday was only a few days ago. Where did all the money go...?

v Are your dolls' characters rich, poor, or a mix?

 

^ most of my dolls characters don't have a need for money.
Of the two that do: one is a teen with a part time job, so they're rich for a teenager but not to anyone else's standards lol
The other is a traveling jeweler by day and a thief by night .... so he's workin on that rich thing.

v What's the coolest prop or accessory you've found or made for your dolls?

 

^ The Pub. I made most of the interior stuff but collected pieces over the years, been gifted items for the shelves. I'm still collecting and refining.

< I felt a migraine coming and headed it off at the pass, thank goodness. That is one thing I don't want to hit me.

v What prompted you to buy your first doll?

 

^ the first time my ex girlfriend broke up with me, I was 16, Impulsive and followed Ringdoll on tumblr, so I started a layaway. Thank goodness that was the only big snap decision I made that time. Ironically, after our more recent breakup, I’m selling a few dolls, and possibly bringing. One home. The more things change, the more they don’t, I guess...

< I just really love the new HID Fullset... oops.

V What’s one doll you want but will probably never bring home?

 

^ Soom Amber, I've considered her my more unattainable Grail since 2010.

v what is your dolls favorite movie?

 

^ All three of them, regardless of personality, love the Princess Bride. They just have to.

< why can I never get pics to show up on here? I've tried resizing, triple checking the coding, and it just won't work no matter what ...bleh

v What's the most perfect accessory or clothing item you ever bought? Why was it so perfect?

 

^ I bought Joker a very expensive green suit because it had an orange shirt. The shirt was perfect for him, and as it turned out, I soon made the Riddler into a BJD and had a green suit waiting for him. So that was my best clothing purchase.

V What was your first doll? Why did you buy it, and do you still have it?

 

^ Ringdoll Sol in tan was my first doll. I fell in love with him after finding BJDs on eBay, specifically on Jeeryama. I drooled over him for months. I got an inheritance and after putting 3/4 into a cement garage floor and my granddaughter's college fund, I splurged on myself and bought him. I still have him, he is my avatar. He even has Huang Shan's autograph in his head cap, Ringdoll's jointed hands and new feet for wearing clogs. He will be with me til the end.
