The ^ < v Game! - Part 6

^^ Okay. So. This is actually a touch complicated. I bought Elliot's head first when I saw it on the secondhand market. I'd been wanting a secondhand Migidoll Ell because plot, and this one appearing on the MP, with freckles and red hair like I wanted, well, it seemed like destiny. But I had also fallen for the Island Doll Sparkle sculpt, and I had had a dream of her being discontinued. So I bought her head minutes after. But she managed to arrive first. But I had such a terrible time deciding on a body (and my first and ultimate choice was so expensive) that I was able to find a secondhand body for him long before I got a body for her.

At any rate, I still have both, and you can see them hanging out together in my profile pic. Don't tell the others, but they are both my faves.

^ Most of my impulse buy have still been on my list in some form, even if it wasn't that exact sculpt. So I guess I haven't had a true impulse buy. Of those, I've keep two and sold one. The one was me trying to save money on what I really wanted and we know how that goes. Gobbie was the only full doll I impulse bought, and I'd been wanting some form of older, pointy eared tiny. I saw her less than 24 hours before the sales period. I slept on it and bought her the next morning. No regrets there.

v What facial feature draws you to a doll the most and which of your dolls exemplifies it?

 

^ Not a facial feature per se, but I've been drawn to sculpts that are more realistic, be it through smaller eyes or an over-all smaller head for their size. (Yeah, I like making eye- and wig-finding difficult for myself.) Case in point: my Granado Michael hybrid, Guórén. Even though he often plays the second fiddle to my better-liked primary doll, his facial style is the standard for my dolls, to the point that I had to reshell said primary doll to better match his proportions.

v Since we're already on the topic of sculpt styles, do you have a doll (or several) that deviate from your general style preference?

 

^ I think my Rosettadoll Agave skews a bit less realistic than my other dolls. Her head and eyes are larger, for one thing. Most of my dolls are in the medium-realistic range, but she's the only one I think is especially doll-like.

v Have you ever sold a doll and then bought it again?

 

^ Oh yes. Migidoll Miho, FL MNF Shiwoo and Fl MNF Karsh (three times!). There might actually be more but those three for sure.

V Have you ever modded a doll (share!) or do you have plans to do so?

 

^ I plan to make my sd10 body joints double jointed.

v While crafting or buying things for your doll, do you prefer synthetic or natural materials?

 

^ I really like natural materials. I mostly make wigs for my dolls and I always like to source animal fibers!

v What sculpt would your collection not be complete without?

 

^ Definitely my Lishe, Feather. She's my pride and joy, I based my whole story and Dolly world around her. It would never be right without her.

v what makes a doll your favorite doll?

 

^ I can’t choose a favorite, but I do have a least favorite and it’s because her body is too clunky. My two favorites are my favorites because they have the loveliest faces.

v Do you have a favorite wig style/color that you look for?

 

^ A lot of my dolls have black or dark brown hair. My dolls are all tiny, so finding decent men's hair can be a pain.

< I need to make most of them more clothes...

V Do you have a favorite clothing style for your doll?

 

^ yes, oversized and cute in pastels mainly. I like big hoodies and shirts and dresses with cute leggings and stockings!

v do you have a favorite accessory for your dolls?

 

^ Yes! I love backpacks. My doll got one and it looks like he is always ready for traveling

v Do you draw your dolls?

 

^ My dolls are almost all OCs before I buy them, so yes!

v Tons of outfits for your dolls or 1 set outfit each?

 

^ I bought a lot of clothes that I'm sure my dolls can't wear them all xD I just love buying clothes for my dolls but not for myself haha.

v What doll size is your most favorite?

 

^ At the moment YoSD Although I do have an MSD on the way and am fascinated by tinies so that could always change

< I wish I didn't have to clean my house today.

v What doll-related hobby do you wish you were better at? (e.g. photography, sewing...)

 

^ not counting faceups, I really wish I was better at sewing! I have such huge ideas first clothes for my dolls but I'm so slow and bad at making things the correct size. I know I just need more practice...

< my guinea pigs are squealing up a storm. I love them so much.

v is there a particular doll that is your "one that got away"? Do you think you'll ever be able to reel them in?

 

^ That happened to me once (not currently). It was when I saw LLT Lazuli on the website a few years after his sale and then I realized he was limited. I was looking for him everywhere until I gave up. A few months after that, I saw Lazuli head on sale here so I jumped on him. That was truly amazing. I never thought I could have him but now he is here with me.

v Have you ever sold your dolls? If yes, how often?

 

^ My undertaker, he's my baby!

v if you could have ANY doll at all, no matter the cost, what would it be?

 

^ Probably another Delf Soony. It's still my grail even though I already own one xD She could have a twin!

v What was the last thing you made for a doll?

 

^ I decorated a beret at the speed couture contest at PNW.

v Have you ever sold your dolls? If yes, how often?

 

^ No. For one thing, I can't afford to impulse buy, so I always go several days or months before making a purchase. That having been said, I think a couple of recent purchases were a result of a bout of depression, which I've since worked through, but they have left me scratching my head. However, since I bought them, I consider it a challenge to make them a part of the family, and the imagination is beginning to percolate. Looking forward to putting the new craft room to work and modding them into shape.

v So...what's your next big doll-related project?

 

^ Now that the weather's finally starting to look up, I'd like to give Carlisle a faceup! The poor boy's been without one for... almost two years now? The good side of that being that he's had time to settle in properly, and I have a way better idea of who he is and what colour suits him than I did when he first arrived

< Just about recovered from a total hard-drive fry up, I have a few sternly worded emails I'd like to send Apple

v Are your dolls your good luck charm? Do you like keeping them nearby when you're working?

 

^ Not really ... I like having them out when I'm "working on" (read: messing with) their story, but that's about it.

< well, happy Beltaine. If that wasn't a divine clout round the head I don't know what is.

v Where do your dolls' characters come from? Their own story? RPGs? Something else entirely?

 

^ most of mine are from my own stories, though Vidania, who I’m working on, is from a D&D campaign I’m in, and if I ever make Acyra, Zilvriia, or possibly Aelish, because she’s my girlfriend’s character, those are allalso from campaigns I’m in.

V what’s one song that reminds you of your dolls/characters?

 

^ strangely enough If You Only Knew by Shinedown makes me think of my dolls characters because when I was first writing their story I listened to that a lot.

v do you write your dolls stories down or are they just mental?

 

^ I write them down. I've spent the last two NaNoWriMo Novembers writing their stories and added more during the year between. I have an adventure and tragic story to add to them.

v Your favorite doll are they 'hands on' or 'hands off' characters?

 

^ Well, I don't have a distinctive favorite (I either shift from day to day, or just can't choose in general). Also, I'm not quite certain exactly what's meant by hands on/hands off, but I'm taking it to mean handle/not handle or affectionate/huggy vs. not. With that in mind....Tahmos, Mundei and Tahno tend to be more the former for both instead of the latter. All three like physical closeness/affection/interaction.

<(I hope I didn't just twist that up into a gnarly knot...)

V Who are your more huggy/physically affectionate dolls/characters, and who's your least physically affectionate/standoffish?

 

^ For the dolls I have, both of them are on oppostop ends of the affection spectrum. Maylin is quite bubbly and kind, and very much empathetic and huggy. Istalvic, however, is very particular about physical contact, with the exception of Maylin and his brother, even if it does make him nervous. It wasn't necessarily something I did on purpose, but I had also assumed it would happen.

< Just one day off work. That's all I need to get in some faceup practice...

V What is your favorite aspect of your first doll, even if they aren't your absolute favorite? What's you least favorite aspect?

 

^ My favorite aspect is that she fits the character perfectly. My least favourite aspect is that I bought her on the default SID body instead of the EID ... then again, first doll and I had already waited months for her to become available again, so I pretty much jumped on the button the moment she was up for sale. Which meant I had to go with the default body. But that shall be rectified within the year, yes precious.

v How would you display your dolls if you had free rein?

 

^ In a big, 1/3 scale diorama in the corner of my room, with beds, a little kitchen, a gym, a home office, and a little nest.

v What is your ideal collection size?

 

I think my ideal is three to four SD's and two or three MSD's. I have only certain characters and dolls I want to own, with the exception of a few Soom grail dolls.

< Just finished writing my 12th book! Life feels great!

v if you had the room would you make a diorama for your dolls?

 

^ Since my "big" dolls are mature tinies they have a permanent living space on an IKEA shelving unit in my bedroom. I'd like to hve more furniture for them, and have more of the space well set up for them.

< My newest doll has joined the ones who are out, since a finally made him a decent pair of pants.

V How finished do your dolls have to be to be "display ready"?

 

^ They have to have a faceup, wig, eyes, outfit and shoes all in character. So far, only my tiny has reached that stage. But I'm getting really close.

v Any dolls in need of freshening up?

 

^ One of my first dolls was an Iplehouse Barahan, and I've been batting around the idea of giving him a new face. The old one seems pretty bland to me these days...but at the same time, after all these years, it's kind of who he is.

< Don't forget to give Ooki his pill this evening, or the poor little guy will start to itch.

v Speaking of itchy dogs, if you had to give up either dolls or pets for the rest of your life, which would it be...?

 

^ Dolls. No contest.

V How many dolls would you like to have vs how many you actually own?

 

^ Five and four and a half, respectively. There is one very tempting doll, but I've talked myself out of her for now. But I also want a pet doll. Off topic doesn't count, right?

v What's the best hybrid you have, in your opinion?

 

^ I only have one hybrid, so he wins by default. He's my newest doll, a Little Monica head on a Luts body. The resin match is nearly perfect, and the proportions work for his character. He's a short teen/tween.

V Similar question- Do prefer hybrids or single company dolls?

 

^Probably hybrids because of how much variety can be achieved with matching a head with a different body from another company. It makes the bjd more unique over getting the head and body from the same company, and allows me to complete the character the way I envision them.

< Color matching isn't that big an issue for me with hybrids

V So, what's your preference: realistic, stylized, or something in-between? Explain why if you can

 

^ I think I prefer stylized, I like CP dolls the most and they're not very realistic. I think I just prefer it because I find them prettier? They have a more doll like beauty, no pun intended. I love their big eyes and sharp noses and full lip smiles.

< Really can't wait to move house.

v have you ever moved house with your dolls?

 

^ Yes - but there weren't as many of them then. It was .... interesting. Dolls are something I wouldn't trust strangers with, so I packed them up beforehand and stashed them away under a desk while the rest of the stuff was brought in. I'm moving house again this summer and I've had a bit of a population explosion in the past couple years, so we'll see how that goes

< oh come on, life. For reals?

v Under which circumstances would you allow people to handle your dolls?

 

^ If they were a doll owner, or if the doll remained sitting on a stable surface and the person had clean hands and did not pick them up. And I'd be hovering nearby, of course. Messed up faceups and mussed up wigs would not bother me too much, it's getting scratched/broken/dirty/greasy I'd be worried about, and it would take seriously rough handling for that.

v Passing on: under which circumstances would you allow people to handle your dolls?

 

^ At meetups, if someone asks I allow them to handle my dolls under my supervision.
My friends are allowed to handle my dolls without supervision, but I'd still appreciate if they ask! :P

< I need to arrange to have someone home Wednesday to sign for a doll - OF COURSE the expected delivery day is the one day Im busy all day next week.

v Whats the longest you've ever waited for a doll?

 

^ I am currently waiting for a head from Ringdoll, they waiting times are around 5 - 6 months. I still have to wait at least 2-3 months.
> I need to start sewing those dark mori clothes for my boy.
v What was Your the shortes wait time for a not second hand doll ?

 

^ A month from Resinsoul and about the same from Mirodoll.

< Rain is making me lazy and I don't like it. I want to work on doll stuff but blech.

v Do you have a doll project that has been stalled by the weather?

 

^ if I know them, they can touch my doll no problem.

^ If you mean a size category, nope. But if you mean a specific size, then yes - our teeniest tiny, FL Realpuki, Aki.

< Happy Mother's Day! The fam brought me breakfast in bed, and in a little while we're off to a movie and then dinner. (Sensing a food theme, here. )

v Have you ever become so apathetic about doll collecting that you stopped involvement completely...only to return with a vengeance months - or even years - later? If so, what brought you back?

 

^this semester, I let all my dolls sit for months. What brought me back was a life change. I got rid of all the stuff I didn’t want anymore, and changed the storylines that felt clunky. I edited my life and my works and came back stronger. Or, I will, once I’m done downsizing and getting the things I really want.

V would you ever consider starting over with your collection? Why or why not?

 

^ Not as things stand. No one has been finished yet in my eyes. If I ever finally finish them, then tire of that vision, then maybe I'll start over. But I've felt no desire for that.

v Do any of your dolls have any sweet rides?

 

^ for some reason I've always imagined Feather and her world to be mostly walking cities. So I'd say no, though I could imagine maybe horse drawn carriages sometimes!

v what's your next dolly goal to accomplish?

 

^ Get a wig made for Xylander, get his face painted, and finally be able to show him off!

< Listening to ex-Mormon podcasts are kind of cathartic for an ex-Mormon who thought she was alone. Think I'll sleep all right tonight, y'all.

v Are there dolls you collect that aren't BJDs?

 

^ Yes, I have cu-poche dolls and am becoming interested in mini mui chans.

v Do all of your dolls exist in the same universe/story?

 

^ Not anymore, although I've sort of created an alternate storyline to house all of them. They're all from various RPGs and projects I have. Four are from one storyline, three from another, and two of them are more or less independent.

< I've got two heads out for face-ups! Can't wait to see them.

v What's next on your BJD to-do list?

 

^ Getting my next paycheck and buying Ji-han some shoes. I was lucky to find a bunch of clothes he needed at a con. With the arrival of the pants I've already ordered, that should be it for his outfit. Then I can finally start saving for the doll I want for when it comes out.

v Any dolls you wish were still in production?

 

^ Yes! I wish CP delfs were still in production! Els, soonys, ifs, the whole collection!

< feeling incredibly anxious right now

v anything in having dolls that makes you anxious? Sending out heads for faceups, modding, etc.

 

^ I get "shipping anxiety" - tracking a parcel and hoping it'll get home okay. I never had anything arrive broken, but I've had delays of more than a month and that was ... not pleasant. And one parcel was returned because I didn't get the notification. That kind of stuff stinks.

< All the doll furniture painting has paid off, my own stuff is coming together very nicely indeed. This is starting to take on therapeutic dimensions.

v Do your dolls' characters have hobbies?

 

^ Lorina's hobbies are reading and making up her own stories. Emie's is eating.

< Sick. Hope I didn't infect anybody at work today. Staying home tomorrow.

v Do you collect anything purely on behalf of one of your dolls?

 

^ I like collecting little toys for them, lalaloopsies and tiny plush animals for them. Much like me, they like collecting toys too!

v what's your favorite part of having dolls? Why?

 

^ I love the fact that I can give my ocs a form I can touch and style. And I just love dolls. And Bjds can pose so well compared to other dolls

< tiny houses are cool but I could never live in them.

v do you search a doll fitting for your character or do you give them a character after you got them?

 

^ I search for a doll fitting my character. It's a bit rough, because there are so many sculpts I like (looking at you Supia) but they're not fitting for my dolls.

v What's your favorite company that you don't purchase from for whatever reason? (Sculpts don't fit character, too expensive, wait times, etc)

 

^ doll chateau. I love how artistic their dolls are, but I wouldn't know what to do with them (but never say never)
