v What is the most interesting place you've taken a doll?

 

^ Probably the Theodore Roosevelt National Park:



There were all kinds of fascinating places to set up a tiny for good in-scale photos, though they often took a LOT of hiking and climbing stairs. (So many stairs... I was legitimately swearing at stairs after a while.) I think I'll have to take my newer boy (who's a desert-dweller) to the Badlands sometime, too, though probably not back to the same park, since I can crash at my sister's place if I go farther south.

< This week is crazy. Next week is crazy. The whole month is crazy and I need to go handle the crazy.

v What's your ideal place to take a doll for photos?

 

^ my ideal place to take my dolls would be an old decrepit house that’s surrounded by dead trees no grass lots of rusty broken things I would kill to take pics of my dolls there

< I’d kill for a V energy drink

v Do you prefer urythane eyes, glass eyes, acrylic eyes or silicone eyes for your dolls

 

^ Two of those I haven't tried so would have to go for acrylic eyes just because that's what I mostly own.

< Hoping for today to be a productive day.

v What's one thing you love about being a part of the BJD community?

 

^ Looking at everyone's dolls! I see so many kinds I've never heard of and so many interesting ideas. The downside is that it gives me ideas.

v Saving up or doing layaway for anything?

 

^ I'm considering saving up for a Souldoll Bonnie, Resinsoul Li, or Resinsoul Tang (all the souls). I'm not sure yet though.

V A new season of your doll's character's favorite show is out all at once! What do they do? (If they prefer books then a new book in their favorite series is out!)

 

^ stock up on all the snacks and drinks, host a viewing party and binge watch with her friends, the rest of the 1/4 Unoa gang.

V what are your plans this weekend? Anything fun with dolls going on in your world?

 

^ Alas, no dolly plans here for a few months due to moving (unless you count the panel/meetup I'll be running/attending at a convention in about a month). My weekend will be split between working on the move, and working on the convention; I'm hauling (non-doll) stuff to a storage unit, and doing some screen printing for the con. I do need to figure out how I'm going to handle moving the dollies this go-around... there's a lot more of them than the last time I had to do temporary storage, and at least some of them need to stay out for the panel/meetup... ugh.

< I also need to do mock-screening for myself tonight. And chores. And more packing. Help...

v What's your next doll project?

 

^ When a flyaway wig hair gets in front of your dolls eye and you take a picture not knowing until it's too late. That always bothers me haha.

< I should make some tea or something...

V What is something your doll's character really needs to do but they're procrastinating it to the point where they really need to just get it done with?

 

^ She needs to clean her fridge. LOL bought too much food.

< I think I wanna cosplay at Acen but do I have enough time to get a costume ready @_@

v When you look deep deep into your dolls eyes, what do you FEEL?

 

^ I'm kind of in awe, honestly. They're so lifelike!

< There's a cut on the roof of my mouth and it's making eating these chocolates less than pleasant. Ah, well. Still eatin' em.

v Do you have particular snacks you eat while working on doll projects?

 

^ Well, I've one particular snack I eat at any time when working on art or dolls or anything like that: "After Eight" or simply any choco-mint chocolate. I love it so much and everyone in my family knows so I get big packs of it every birthday and christmas~

< I couldn't finish Aoi's wig... Let's see what this week holds for us... (my boss is on a holiday trip for almost two weeks so maybe even can do some crafting at work~)

v Do you have any particular "ritual" when receiving a new doll you always need to do (like right away trying out the best outfits or taking some picture in a particular place)? Or is it spontaneous each time (just open the box and be happy and all~)?

 

^I can't say its spontaneous each time, completely. Full/new dolls can only be opened when my sister is home. So I have to wait on that. Instantly, I open their heads and put in proper eyes, or try out eyes to get that right feel right away. I snap pictures of them naked if it's anew body to show it off to friends, and then clothed. And if it's MSD, after we line up all of the MSDs from tallest to shortest Juuuust to see the difference in them all. Lol

vWhat kind of wigs do you prefer? Alpaca, fur, fiber, etc. And have you ever made your own?

 

^ I have made my own...I like to make fur wigs because they're so easy and brainless lol I've made fiber by sewing wefts, and that sucked so much NEVER AGAIN, and i've made hard cap...which isn't bad. But still a pain.
As for wigs I like, either alpaca or fiber like Monique's, which I think looks and behaves the most natural.
But for my guys, I've moved away from wigs and I just glue their hair onto the doll's head. It's so much easier to deal with.

V Which of your doll's is the best at posing, and what is it they can do that the other's can't?

 

^ My RS Bei and my Obitsu tiny are tied for that. My Obitsu can stand on one foot with her magnets. Vala can do hunting poses and her double joints really help with that.

< Still waiting on my doll's tracking number. 8'D

V What is your favorite doll to photograph?

 

^ Adhara is the clear winner (sorry, Guórén -- I'm working to remedy that!). I guess it's because her faceup is quite fierce compared to my other doll's. :'D

< Well, well. Looks like I rooted one of my own hairs into Adhara's wig. Thank heavens that hair with a red ombre could easily be hidden with the other hairs at the back.

v Have you ever transferred a character from one doll to another while keeping the original doll?

 

^Nope! I only have one doll, so maybe that is in my future but for now I have one beloved doll and character

<I'm supposed to be studying for an exam but here I am instead because I can't quit with the dolls.

v What go you into the BJD hobby?

 

^One of my friends said that Dolfie Dreams were awesome so I looked them up, agreed, researched, and then tripped head first into the all consuming void of the hobby! I then learned that there is no escape and its better to just become one of us.

V Your doll's character is having a really rough day, what do they do to cheer themself up? Any special self care things?

 

^ Prism would burn sage, consul the crystals, take a long bath and listen to heavy metal music for a few hours. After? Prolly eat a pizza.

< I would love a mani-petti right now omg~

v do you believe that your doll(s) have souls or a deep presence that is supernatural?

 

^ Usually I'd say no to this... But every now and then I actually feel their 'presence'... Or at least I imagine so. I doubt there really is something but the loneliness sometimes makes me believe otherwise.

< Need to get my art supplies sorted... /.\ dun wanna do that...

v Does your doll's character believe in ghosts? Is he scared of them or likes them? o3o

 

^ All my characters believe in ghosts. One of them is actually a medium who can see and communicate with them. He's not afraid of them, but they annoy him because they're always around. But Alex is annoyed by everything, so
John can't see or hear them but his job requires he deal with them sometimes. Luckily he knows a medium who is annoyed by everything! John isn't really capable of being scared of anything, ghosts included.

V Do you have a doll who gets all the things while others go without? What do you usually end up buying for them?

 

^ Elliot. But that's because he is one of my only two complete dolls and the other is supposed to get handmade stuff. I've just been getting him clothes and eyes.

v What is on your wishlist right now?

 

^ Supia Roda and Migidoll Ell. And that's it, because I need to take a break to let my bank account recover and to get used to having six dolls...

< New school year starts in about a month, here in Japan, and I'm already nervous about what my schedule will be like. Can I have, you know, at least a little advance notice?

v Your doll family collectively won the lottery! They must come to an agreement about how to spend (or save) the money. So, where does the money end up?

 

^ Guórén leaves the money matters to Adhara because she's far better at it than him. One rule she'll definitely put up is "keep quiet, don't change your routine," and invest most of the money (say, 2/3 of it) somewhere to help it grow. The rest will be kept as emergency funds to supplement their current income. She already has a tidy nest egg set up such that her family could live comfortably, so she sees no immediate need to do massive spending (which is bound to attract unwanted attention, either way).

< Cookie has finally shipped! Can't wait to get her home!

v Do your dolls' characters have an obsession?

 

^ Yep! For Drew it’s cat figurines, the occult, and general practical medicinal uses for common plants. For Bob it’s dirt. Just...any kind of dirt. The guy can’t stop talking about.

< I love just browsing through Draw The Squad bases so much.

V If you could swap your most basic physical appearance (and still look like a normal human) with your doll’s for a week, would you?
(I.e, if your doll has freckles, big eyes, etc. you get freckles, big eyes, etc.)

 

^ Kirara's perfect day would be going on a date with a rich hot guy and getting him to buy her new clothes, but since that never happens, she's satisfied with walking through the city with her little sister (who is unshelled).

< I have to pee so bad, but my dog is snuggling me so I can't get up D:

v Do you collect anything other than dolls?

 

^ Yupp... Books and manga are a dirty pleasure of mine that eats up almost as much money as my BJDs... I even made this to my job (I'm a book seller trainee X3). Also I collect art supplies (never can have enough!). Currently I am mostly into watercolors. *o* Got a set of Colorex (ten little jars of highly concentrated liquid colors), one cheap set of watercolors in tubes (got it from the local supermarket XD) and one Koi pocket field watercolor set (the big one with 48 half pans)! *o*
Oh, and also I collect figurines though that collection is quite small yet. I am a collector at heart!

v What was your biggest doll impulse buy?

 

^ DHS Aldou. They were limited, and when I saw the sales page, I had less than 24 hours to decide. But they fit a character of mine so perfectly, and there was nothing else that came close. And she is a tiny, so even limited she was cheaper than my hybrid made of second and third hand parts. Don't regret it yet!

v How does your doll unwind after a long, tiring day?

 

^ Hm, let's see...I'll go with Tahmos for this. He tends to spend those hours winding down towards bedtime taking it easy, hanging around with his BF Aqqen, or laying down beside him as they just casually talk before nodding off.

> Worked on an almost perfect faceup yesterday. Had it almost finished--was putting the final layer of sealant down before moving on to add gloss and install eyelashes....when a nasty, oversized bubble appeared in the sealant layer right smack dab on the cheek. Ate right through to the first layer and left a 2mm wide blemish there that you couldn't miss. There was no way of recovering from that, so I had to start over from scratch. The woes of doing faceups...

V Speaking of faceups and whatnot, what's the worst thing that's happened with your crew? Faceup mess-up, broken finger? Nose/ear dent? Pick your poison.

 

^ I'm working on making a dress for her, doing her face up as soon as she arrives, and a bookshelf dollhouse.

< I'm so ready for cheese ravioli.

v What's your favorite doll name?

 

^ Do you mean like my favourite doll's characters name? Probably Wu Xiang Jia who shortly is called Jia. =3
As for favourite doll company name... I love so many of the names but I have to go with the Illusion Spirit XiaoJi (which by pure coincidence is Jia's mold... XD)

< Needa work on bjd crafts... just two more days of work until my break...

v How do you come up with names for your dolls?

 

^ My dolls are all theme named. I sort through flower reference texts until I find one I like, that I have't already used for a doll. My newest doll is Ellie from the Last of Us, so I worked backwards to find a flower name that could plausibly have "Ellie" as a nickname.

< Stuffy noses suck.

v I'm experiencing yo-yo weather where I live. How do your dolls handle the elements?

 

^Pathfinder and Dallas think the perfect holiday is getting a treasure map and spending the off time combing the map and being outside trying to find the treasure. Otherwise they'd be stuck inside with nosy and noisy relatives that don't understand their talents.

< Spring has brought hay fever, tons of pollen fills my airways, *sniffle*

v Season is changing what are your dolls looking forward too?

 

^ Not being cold most of the time or more time spent out doors.

< Old leaky windows mean my electric bills are really high, and I'm cold anyway.

V Do your dolls prefer warm weather or cold weather?

 

^ My dolls prefer warm weather as it's more comfortable to be outdoors.
< Moving is a pain. I am currently procrastinating packing the Amiibos up.
v What do types of games do your dolls like to play?

 

^ Reito likes traditional games the most. Even though he is terrible at it, he loves Go and Mahjongg. Synti doesn't play any games, she's too young and impatient for it. Aoi and Jia like video games, Jia prefers fantasy RPGs and adventure games and Aoi rather plays stealth, strategy, shooting and beat 'em up games.
Though if they all play together they play stuff like Mario Party and fight over every mini game in it.

^ Alex: metal
John: musicals

V What (if any) doll projects are you procrastinating right now?

 

^All of them. They’re mostly sewing related because currently sewing stresses me out but one is making a cardboard diorama. I don’t have a lot of motivation but I need to finish them at some point haha.

<So many projects...

VWhat’s your doll’s character’s favorite musical?

 

^ all sorts of places! If I'm flying, taking several, or not using my own vehicle, I have a rolling suitcase that fits my tallest mini easily (and I generally don't take any bigger than him), wrapped in travel blankets I made for them. If it's a short trip to a meet, I have a big softside toolbag that I can line with box pillows for my minis. For tinies I also have a small toolbag that I have lined with foam and has Velcro "seatbelts" for them; it fits two, or a third if I really want.

< Meetings and moving and meetings and moving... This is my life now...

v What's your favorite setting for doll photos (either your own or what you like seeing in others' photos)?

 

^ The Pub of course. I need to rearrange it a bit and take some more photos with different dolls but it is my favorite setting.

^ Tahmos would his universe's variant of a cat, or an aquatic feline to be exact. They're native to where he comes from, and make good companions.

< I plan to eventually get an Eve Doll cat to make into Tahmos' kitty companion. Now it's just a matter of figuring which one specifically, and which size...

V If your bjd could be in an TV show/movie/cartoon/anime/book, which would it be, and which character would they most likely be?

 

^ I dunno really. Most of the time I have a "bank" of characters to choose from, from my own writings and drawings, and who gets shelled usually depends on their proximity to whoever is the "main" character (meaning my favorite. Meaning Alex or John). However, I can also see dolls I like and decide who they could be, either in my story, or other fictional characters that are not mine. Like all my DC guys and girls. And the weird one-offs I have hanging around.
I rarely make up a character for a doll. It has happened, but usually I just take one and fit it too the doll.

> And I'm going to do it again. Even though I was going light on the dolls this year.

V Sort of the same question - where do your doll/character ideas come from?

 

^ After Evz came along and I had twins, everything sort of revolved around them and had spinoffs in the demon world and my own AU. So they come from either a character needing to be made or a ah-ha doll who needs a spot in the storyline.

< Mosquitoes are swarming now that it has rained again.

v Do you do crafty thing for your dolls?

 

^ All the time! My next project involves taking the tiny Terms and Conditions booklet that came with my phone and making it look like a proper book for SDs. It'll be fun!

< I wish silicone cured faster. Gotta make more eyes!

v What's the most out-of-the-ordinary doll you own? Be it a fantasy resin color, a crazy mod, or anything you can think of.

 

^ either the dark purple girl (Balik), the Frankenstein girl with the half face mask painted on (Eva) or Fierene, who is a red impldoll Hannah, awaiting a body.

<I can’t actually believe I’m going to see another couple musicals live...

V if your doll could be in any movie, play, musical, etc, what would they be in?

 

^ Well, John is the only character/doll I have with zero shame, and he does love musicals. I doubt he can sing, and there's no way he'd be able to remember lines, but I don't think that would stop him...he's kind of an attention hoor...he'd probably love being on stage.

^ Did the adulting thing last night and finally finished my taxes. *ded*
At least now I get to wait for the refund! Which = Doll monies for that unexpected release I just have to have. *coughadultcough*

V If you could have any props for your dolls at all, what would you want?

 

^ I'd like some martini glasses for the pub that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I think Ash and Evz would like a martini shaken, not stirred. lol.

< I finally remembered a prop that will go well with an outdoor photo-shoot. Maybe today, mosquito hoard dependent.

v How do you store your doll props?

 

^ In a plastic cube (the cheap ones from ikea), away from direct sunlight and next to my desk. I like to change up the setting for my doll every other day so the props must be easily accessible

< Right now I'm in the mood for brushing the hair of Reiko with the toothbrush...

v How do you take care of the wigs for your doll(s)?

 

^ If they're long and loose, I'll braid them. I also try to keep the hair nets they come in for storage purposes.

<I should have breakfast and other responsible things, but I'm feeling lazy.

v What doll related things do you keep putting off?

 

^ Organizing all the clothes. They're all kind of just..in a pile...

< I wanted to go out for some cute snow photos but the wind is gusting to 90km/hr. Unless i want flying doll photos, i'll have to wait.

v Do you write elaborate stories for your dolls? Or are they just dolls for you?

 

^I hope to someday write them down! I am in graduate school so I do a lot of writing as it is. Someday I hope to have time to write down all the stories I have in my head about my dolls' characters.
< My doll should be shipping soon and this is the worst part of the wait. I trust the company, so that wat wait is boring. I don't trust the post, this wait is scary.

v Do you prefer to buy dolls straight from companies, dealers or second hand? why?
