The ^ < v Game! - Part 5

Dec 11, 2017

    1. ^ Head and body hybrids, and fantasy parts hybrids - Magnus is a Luts 2011 Event Head on an Akagidoll 66cm body, Leopold is a Raurencio Studio Ryon head on an IoS 80cm body, Amadeus is a DoD Lahoo head on an IoS 70cm body, Rourke is a Doll-Zone Yuu with Soom Chrom paws, Joulliette is a Dollshe Bernard with Soom Chalco hooves, and Promith is a Luts Odin Senior Delf 62cm type 3 body with Dollshe Pure body 70cm legs. I have many pics of all of them @-@ Here's a decent enough photo of three of them - Promith, Amadeus, and Leopold from left to right:

      < So much snow!!! <3

v Passing the question along: What sorts of hybrids do you have? If you have none, what is the one you've seen and like the most? Pics if you can.

    2. ^ My current hybrids include a MNF head on a Doll-Legend body, an old DIM MNM head on a Soom body, a Luts head on a SoulDoll body (doesn't quite fit), a Bobobie head on an Impl body. I don't do hybrids all that often, but sometimes I get particular about what the body type should be for a character, and that can result in a hybrid.

< Ugh, I do not want this weather and I do not want this flu. Especially when tomorrow is free food day at work and I will have to work from home. :(

v How daring are you with mods? Is there a line you won't cross for doing them yourself?

    3. ^ On bodies I've done mods to make hybrids fit, ftm mods other sanding mods depending on the dolls....I've also done repair mods. On heads I've opened eyes, changed mouth shapes, added elf ears, added teeth, sanded jawlines, cheekbones, brow ridges, and noses, done a gore mod on half a face (Two-Face) and right now I'm turning a Ringdoll Kay into the Death of the Family Joker (ripped off and reattached face). I also might take my extra Ringdoll K head and do something crazy with his mouth....I haven't decided yet.

My line is: Dye. It's not a line really, I would actually like to do it - I have one Dollmore Fashion doll I want to dye tan, and a head I might like tanned, but I'm afraid. Especially to the head as I would have trouble getting it again if I mess it up. I'll probably do it eventually....the DM boy needs to be tan to be what I want him to be....but, scary.

Other than that, the Joker was a pretty intensive mod, I didn't think I could actually do it...and I did, so I'm not sure there's a mod I wouldn't attempt to attempt lol

EDIT: oh I have done temporary mods as well, lots of those. Many of my dolls have scars XD

      > Since I can't do faceups in this crappy weather all I can do is mod....

V Passing the question on because I can't think this morning: How daring are you with mods? Is there a line you won't cross for doing them yourself?

    4. ^ I wouldn't attempt mods (especially subtractive) on something that can't be replaced, and I'd think long and hard about modding something very expensive ... but that's it, really. I'm generally more comfortable doing stuff myself rather than commissioning, probably because I like to imagine I'd be able to fix anything that goes wrong. I'm weird that way.

< well, crap. Looks like I caught the man flu.

    5. ^ My dolls' characters would definitely try to take care of themselves for as long as they could, but if push comes to shove one will go and nurse the other. Adhara has some tricks up her sleeve to force someone to rest up, for one.

< Awwww get well soon, @Jany!

    6. ^ I got a white tank top for Kyle, to hold him over until I found the perfect white t-shirt, but now Dash has kinda taken possession of all the tank tops (except my EID's). He looks better in them, anyway :sweat Kyle prefers t-shirts.

< My family is visiting in less than a month!! I'm so excited for vacation!! :cheer

v Is there a place (real or imaginary) that your doll reeeeeeeeally wants to go?

    7. ^ Ed and Jace would reeeeeeally like to go to Jace's home plane... and I'm not sure if either of them has any idea where that is or not. :sweat That's kind of the fun thing about having one of the characters be from an active canon, it all depends on what point he's at and how I'm integrating new stuff into his AU. Regardless of whether or not they can figure out where it is and how to get there, Jace wants to see his parents again, and introduce them to his partner (who likewise wants to meet them).

< The flu is strong here, too... I might actually get through a full day of work today, though, since I'm not crashing as hard as I did yesterday. We'll see how it goes.

v Since I'm getting grumpy about all the road closures and impending mess of the Superb Owl... are your dolls sports fans? If yes, what's their favorite sport, and if no, what would they rather watch/do?

    8. ^ Non of them is a fan of some of the big sports events... Like Super Bowl, World Champoinships in Soccer and so one...
But Jia has a passion for dancing (he himself does pole dancing as a sport hobby but he likes dancing in almost all forms). His godfather's wife owns a small private dancing school and whenever some of the students go to a contest he loves to go with them and watch. In some cases he even is their coach, giving dance lessons in pole dance and contemporary dance style so he is even more involved. Also he watches international contests on television if they're airing.

< Let's see what today holds for us... I am tired... Hopefully not getting sick...

v What's your dollies favourite food? Are they more of a sweettooth or rather eat some real meal, spicey or not, cold or hot? Or something totally different/special that a 'normal' human would not eat?

    10. ^ Lucius would probably survive a long time, since he's very pragmatic. Raiding stores for food, improvising weapons to kill zombies, defending his own shelter for others... he'd do all.

< All this zombie talk made me want to play The Walking Dead Season 2 (yep I still haven't played it), but I need to make my friend steam share with me first.

    11. ^ Elliot has many fears but his biggest is of being abandoned. Ollie only has a few, but main one is being completely alone. Ji-Han's is that no one finds him of any use or importance. Gobbie's is of basic stuff, running out of food, being attacked, etc.

      > And now I'm realizing that three of my dolls have fears that are kind of related despite having different personalities.

    13. ^ Oohh lots of things! My favorite is the creativity and variation within the hobby and community. One person might sew on the smallest of details that just finishes their outfit perfectly, another night be able to make each doll look alive with a new faceup, or there are writers, photographers, artists, crafters, knitters, etc. It's a surprisingly diverse hobby and I love it.

      < I should make something...

    14. ^ I'm in the middle of trying out wigmaking, using a tutorial for a simulated lace wig on a hard cap. Still on the hardcap-making stage, as I'm still testing out which brand of glue will work best on the project. Apart from said project, my upcoming doll will probably end up being my guinea pig for the works (full-body tattooing, sueding, etc.) because I want to try my own hand at customizing an entire doll from scratch.

< I left out the cap glue to dry overnight and it still ain't dry! Man, this really requires more patience than clothes-making.

    15. ^ The part between "Your order has been shipped" to the moment I have my package in my hands! Because we're talking about delivery. The post. Humans. And customs, right? We all hate them. Because they sometimes just don't need to send you something about your package, so you just... have to pay extra money because they just felt like not sending you anything. The same with post. Oh? That was your package? We didn't gave you reminder? Sorry, we send it back just yesterday. So... yeah. This part of waiting is the worst for me.

< I am tired. I still have two exams waiting for me. Need to think about milion things... but I just want to watch Midsomer Murders and do nothing... or maybe write that fanfiction. Or cuddle my dolls... (or better cuddle my girlfriend, who is far away from me TT_TT)

v There is always something not perfect on the image of perfect look of our beloved characters we've got in our heads. What is the most "hard to find/make" thing, that makes your doll "incomplete"? (we're talking about not right color of eyes, mechanical parts, not enough frills... stuff like that)

    18. ^ Well. Yes. I've actually done it several times, at holidays. Mostly halloween, but also Christmas. I always match Alex, both because we've usually had the same things in our wardrobe anyway and he wears normal clothes...so it's not super-obvious that I'm matching my doll.
At Halloween we would wear black pants and a skeleton hoodie and I would say I'm dressed as Alex (my costume) and he was dressed as me. At Christmas I have a green sweatshirt that has Bah Humbug on it, and I made Alex one that matches, so we would both wear that. I have a lot of xmas sweatshirts tho, so it doesn't happen every year....

Now I could match John....I have a Unicorn onesie my best friend gave me for my birthday last year, and she made John one too, but at Halloween it was like 85° so no way was I wearing that. I'd have died. He went solo.

      > Finally the body I bought made it out of Germany!! Now it'll probably sit in NY for a week. omg.

    19. ^ Technically yes, because I regularly cosplay as Ed Elric, and also regularly take Ed to cons where I'd be wearing that outfit. They aren't exact matches currently, but his coat is made from the same pattern and fabric as mine. Eventually I'll get the other parts made to match, too.

< I think most of my time on this project is going to be spent waiting for the query to run, it's at 34 minutes and counting, and I haven't put all of it together yet....

I generally leave them all at home, though, and just keep nerdy figures on my desk instead. :)

    26. ^ Well, my dolls live in an era of isolation with no radios to the outside world, so they pretty much only have Japanese traditional music to listen to. ^_^ If you put them in a modern setting though, Adhara would love symphonic rock and metal -- to the horror of Guórén, who would probably gravitate more towards the classical type, especially those with march-y rhythms.

    27. ^ I think I'm at three years and counting for Ed's Automail mods? It's been interrupted for a while, first by grad school, then by settling into a new place (and dealing with new cats), and now that I was close to picking it back up again, I'm going to move again in the next few months so I can't really start up on it right now (plus I'm trying to get a new costume done by the convention that happens at pretty much the same time as the move)... he'll get done eventually, it's been an exercise in patience even when I've been actively working on it.

    31. ^ Realizing characters (both my OCs and my fandom ones) in 3D. It's like the ultimate art/fanart, that I can enjoy in so many different ways. The whole thing that got me into the hobby was my desire to have an "action figure" of one of my older OCs; BJDs are perfect for that kind of thing, and I keep finding more excuses characters to shell!

    36. ^ The hobbits like all foods (or so I'm told). But cakes are best. Or roasts. Or anything that can be speared on a fork and toasted on the fire, when they're sitting beside it in the evenings in winter. Or anything that can be taken outside for a picnic in summer. Anything sweet is good, too. And fresh bread, and cold meat, and cheese. They're not picky, as long as it's well-prepared (and plenty).

    37. ^ For the character ones... school in rural Amestris is kind of old-timey country-school basic stuff; Ed, Al and Winry love learning, but school just wasn't quite enough for them. They'd love something more like a university setting, and love/loved their apprenticeships because of how much they learned there. For Jace, his education was... not a good experience. Also not a real school, more of an abusive mentorship. But he still loves learning, and would also enjoy a proper school or university setting.

For the OCs... Gabriel's experience in school was terrible. He would much rather just study on his own somewhere, outside any kind of class setting; he hates school itself, but enjoys learning. The others in his specific group all went through basically the same education (which included basic magic training); Esa isn't as naturally talented as some of the others, so while general studies was fine for her, she hated magic training, and hated it even more when she was assigned her mentor (though he eventually helped her find her skills, she still prefers to avoid using magic when she can).

< @VampireAngel13, I sometimes worry that I'm going to give up somewhere in my own mods partway through (I haven't even touched them in a couple of years now), I totally get what you're saying there. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him all finished up! (And it should be, I'll get some additional studio space so I can split out sewing/screening from the rest, which will make things a little easier to deal with overall.)

    38. ^ Actually they deal with the cold very well~ Synti doesn't care much, she's a little rabbit and sleeps most of the time during winter tucked in in a nice warm comfy bed~ And if she's awake she hides underneath a blanket and stays inside. Reito is a demon boy who has firey elemental powers, he heats himself up. And Aoi grew up training hard so he's built up quite the resistance to cold as well as to heat. XD Though he still enjoys wearing warm sweaters and scarfs and all but more because of style reasons than because of them keeping him warm. And Jia is a pretender. Acting as if he doesn't care about the cold but actually he's freezing... He's always freezing and wants to stay inside with a blanket and a cup of hot tea... But he's too proud to admit it. XD

    39. ^ I'd say it's spring for Tahmos. He likes it when it rains, and spring tends to be the season when the most precipitation falls. Plus, it's that nice warm transition from the cold of winter to the heat of summer.

< I'm more of a summer person myself, especially summer vacation:XD:

    40. ^ Adhara isn't human and is deeply attuned to fire, so she'd probably just put herself into a torpor until the snowstorm abates, supported by her own heat. Guórén is another matter, but he has decent enough survival training to be able to build a temporary shelter for himself (or find ones he can hide in) to weather out the storm.

< Stupid fabric glue -- you're strong all right, but I've been letting you dry for ages now and you somehow still stick to my doll's head. Looks like I have to put a wash of good ol' Elmer's school glue over you just to make sure she still has some faceup after my first wigmaking stint is done.

    41. ^ Omg no. You should never let John near a kitchen. He once thought it would be a good idea to learn, so he took some classes. It didn't end well. Then he almost burned his apartment down. He's definitely better at take-out and cold spaghettios out of the can.

      > @vicemage Aw you'll get to it! The best part about BJDs is they're in no hurry XD
but more studio space sounds amazing. That's a huge bonus!! makes moving worth it (I have none. I use the 'dining' room, which is also the craft room)

V Do any of your dolls' characters have a surprise skill like cooking, or singing or juggling? What can they do?

< Pary-cat, I really need to get up and take my meds. You're adorable in a cuddle but my feet are asleep.

    43. ^I did not expect Hibiki to be such a reserved character. I got a vampire sculpt to turn into a neko but just like a cat he wasn't what I expected. He likes to pose holding one of his arms kind of shyly and his face is less severe than other photos of the sculpt that I'd seen are.

< I have a job interview tomorrow and the doll I really want is on sale through the beginning of next month...

v Speaking of jobs! Do any of your dolls have a job? Or are they a student? If neither, maybe they have a hobby that they're really obsessed with that might as well be their full time job. :)

    46. ^ I am still in the process of making a realistic-looking simulated "lace" wig for my girl that has manually threaded hair (no wefts), and once my first MSD arrives it would be her turn to be in a wigmaking project. Two weeks into the rooting and I'm still not halfway done. XD

< I really REALLY wish we could already move out of my parents-in-law's house. My frayed nerves are getting even more frayed with all the fuss being given bro-in-law's unplanned "little angel" (not really), her mother eating most of the snacks despite supposedly being on a "diet", and me having little say over when I could go out of the house, in general.

    51. ^ Several things actually! My most favorite doll right now always kind of makes me giddy - my Ringdoll K - I just love him. I don't know why....My modded Ringdoll Kay who is becoming a horror version of the Joker is killing me. I want him done and a doll so bad! But the weather is bad and I don't have money to get him his body anyway.
Also I've started making eyes, something I never thought I'd be able to do. So I'm super excited to be in the hobby right now...

    52. ^ The fact my last missing member of the main story cast is probably on his way to our GO host! Possibly maybe. I hope very much it's him, but as there can be two dolls in one large Iple package, and multiple were ordered, I have some doubts ... then again, he does come blank and he's NS, so it's not too unlikely.

    53. ^ I managed to get one of the 50 "Coffee black" Noellia Soom made, but when she arrived she was the color of grape juice, and they forgot to send her wig with her. I recieved her wig in a seperate package a couple weeks later, which helped me like her more, as did getting her 6mm Oscardoll eyes in place of 8mm glass ones. Even though I initially though I might have to sell her because of my disappointment with her resin color, she's now my fairy princess, and I lover her.

< Soom's color name for Juchy was inaccurate as well. Light violet is actually light blue. It's a pretty color so I don't mind in the least.

V Has a doll you've recieved been different from your expectations?

    54. ^ Yes, actually. I ordered AprilStory Adrian two years ago (and Adrienne for good measure, because I liked her face and they had the "2 for 1" offer going on) and when they arrived Adrienne clicked into a character right away ... and Adrian, who I really really really wanted, still hasn't let me know who he is. He seems to look different in person than in pics. It's definitely the right sculpt, but I still haven't really bonded with him. Jamie (Granado Enoch) is on his body now, and Adrian joined the Floating Head Brigade.
Most of my dolls have turned character stuff upside down, but that has little to do with the dolls themselves.

< Why after two days of tidying up the place and sewing Larp stuff and organizing doll stuff and making doll things am I hyper instead of tired? And I have to be up extra early tomorrow too. :sigh

I sent in a missing mail form and magically it turned up and was delivered after it spent a week "in transit" the distance between the distribution center (aka "the problem") and my local po. the distance which takes 20 minutes to drive....

V Your dolls' character is out in a field one night star gazing when suddenly an alien comes down from outer space. The alien is friendly and just wants to know about your dolls' character's world. What happens?

    59. ^ Well... Anything out of my dollies world/dimension is at first seen as a thread... So most of them would be cautious around the alien and not tell it too much about this world and rather try making it leave again in a friendly way... Like "This world isn't too special, nothing interesting to see or experience... It's boring actually, you better off leaving this planet behind..." <= That's what they'd tell it.
Except of Aoi... He'd most likely first get really aggressive, point a gun at the aliens head, ask it questions and once he notices the alien really is nice he'd chat away and act as if nothing happened before (if the alien didn't flee by that time already) XD

< My work day just started... I already wish to go home...

v Your dolly character is stuck in a traffic jam... A really bad and long one that costs several hours of the journey. What do they do to pass the time? 60. ^ Neither Alex nor John even drive (John can drive, he just doesn't have a license or a car. Alex can't drive at all) and would be the passenger in this horrible traffic jam. Alex would fall asleep. John doesn't sit still well and would probably get out of the car and wander off.
