^ I do, Marilyn Manson. He's a Dollshe Saint, and I admit, I didn't look all that long. I actually had a different mold in mind, one I'd owned before and had thought would make a good Manson, but when I got the idea into my head to actually do it, I looked at the sculpt and changed my mind. I looked at some other dolls, and decided Saint had the best nose (I did my looking at work, and I have a poster of him there >.< I used it to compare features). When I got him, I sanded his jaw down and that was it. I think he works great! I'd love a second head to do more looks.

V What was your first doll? What did you like about it when you bought it and do you still have it?

 

^ That's actually a bit of a difficult question. The first I bought was a Migidoll Ell head. I wanted a slightly sad redheaded teen and jumped from sculpt to sculpt before I settled. He seem to have the right mix of dorky, neutral, and serious. I also wanted him secondhand for plot reasons. When I got MP access and a thirdhand head popped up with a close enough faceup, I figured it was fate. Meanwhile, I had been infatuated with Island Doll Sparkle for some reason (a character popped up as soon as I saw the company photos) and couldn't shake it despite knowing it would be a long hunt for a body I actually liked. Also, I had been worried the sculpt would be discontinued and the fact that I could not find a single owner meant that getting one secondhand was a very unlikely option. So I ordered it minutes later. The Sparkle head arrived first, but the Ell head got a body first. At any rate, I still have both of them.

> Speaking of which, I wish I could get that body already. It's feels like I've been waiting for ever.

v What dollie purchase are you impatient to make and what has been holding you back?

 

^ I'd really love to get an Echo Town Delores. However, she's an MSD and my crew are large SD's. None of the accessories, wigs, etc I have will fit her. If I do buy her, I'd also have to go an extra mile to acquire the items for her customization. That isn't advisable at the moment because we're due to change residences within the first quarter of the year (real life expenses).

> Speaking of a change of residences, I'm quite excited for it because it means I could finally display my dolls out in the open and no one will bat an eye.

v If you have an opportunity to be in a real-life workshop for a BJD-related topic (e.g. eye-making, sculpting), what would it be?

 

^ I am pretty good at making basic wigs but really suck at parts, so I want to learn how to make them. I would also like to learn to make eyes.

< Can't believe how cold it is here. I'm also being tempted by another body for one of few floating heads, I'm stuck inside and browsing the webs.

v What is the one piece of clothing many dolls have worn?

 

^ T-shirt with a dragon! First it was for Kissa, later Nigel wore it and even later Nial got it for some time. But now it's Nigel's again!

< I want some quality dolly time. And now I'm stucked... Estaz or E'Dawn?! What to do, what to do...

v Roommates! Does your doll/character have roommates/flatmates and what are the relationships between them?

 

^ My dolls' official relationship with each other is as roommates. Elliot and Ollie are close despite having opposite personalities and have been around the longest. Ollie really likes Ji-han and vise versa, and sometimes Elliot gets a little jealous of all the time Ollie spends with him, but he knows deep down that it's irrational and admits that he likes Ji-han too. Finally, Gobbie mostly hides, but she becomes friends with Ollie. The others don't know of her existence. Yet.

> Everyone is away, so I can finally take out my dolls. But do what?

v What are your dolls' relationships with each other?

 

^ Adhara and Guórén started off like an older sister/younger brother, but later on became frenemies before finally becoming lovers in the true sense of the word. Adhara doesn't age like a human being, and as such she maintained almost the same look from Guórén's youth to his current age. You can bet he couldn't accept that she was the same person at first. XD

> A shame I can't take both my dolls to an upcoming meet. Hopefully I can remedy that this year!

v Have your dolls ever accidentally nicked pieces of resin off each other? (Or similar inter-doll mishaps?)

 

^ My Resinsoul Spring was really kicky when she first came in, and there was more than one instance of her smacking one of the dolls sitting next to her on the shelf. Fortunately there was no permanent damage, just some funny situations.

< New tablet monitor means it's high time I get the hang of digital drawing. No more making excuses.

v Tell us about your favorite doll! What makes them your favorite?

 

^ Ah! That's so hard! But... I'd have to say that my favorite doll is Seren. When I was a teenager I was sitting on my best friend's bed when he first saw the Dollmore Cecile sculpt and fell in love. Months later I was visiting him again when Seren arrived straight from dollmore! ^^ He holds a lot of memories to me because of that time spent with my friend.

< I need to be working on things for my upcoming doll meetup and etsy shop opening. But it's so cold I just want to stay bundled up on the couch, waaah!

v What was your grail doll when you first started the hobby, and has that changed with time?

 

^ When I first started my grail doll was a Ringdoll Frankenstein. It's definitely changed because I'm not an angsty teen anymore xD Now I'm really looking for a fantasy MSD themed dolly.

< It's waaaay too late to be awake and thinking about this.

v Have you ever based a doll on a canon character? If not, would you ever consider doing so? What character would you pick?

 

^ By 'canon character' do you mean somebody else's character (such as from TV/comics/anime etc.)? I've never done that and I really have no interest in doing it because, to be honest, there's no character belonging to somebody else out there that I like enough to want to recreate in BJD form. I guess if I had to pick a character to make in doll form, it'd be a character from Bleach.

< those days when you don't feel well, but you're not actually ill enough to justify a sick day? Today is one.

V Have you ever wanted to make more than one dolly representation of the same character? What are your feelings about that?

 

^ Adhara actually has two representations, her "true" fiercely angular face with fantasy makeup (which is how I portray her nowadays), and another, softer one with a more conservative natural-looking faceup. The latter is how I imagine her if she decides to go incognito, ironically applying lots of makeup to mimic human skintones. While both heads serve their own purposes, I am still partial to her fiercer persona, because she looks more compatible with my other doll that way.

< Cabin fever + controversial remarks from husband's brother and parents = trouble for my emotional state

v What is your favorite place or setting to photograph your dolls in?

 

^ We have a beautiful town square here in Fayetteville that is great! It has a variety of plants, architectural features, and paths. I love it! When it's too gross outside, the best lighting in the house is in the guest bedroom. ^^; It's.. also the most clutter free!

< Grr! My landlord doesn't have a drop box and they haven't been in the office all week. How am I supposed to pay rent if they aren't there to take my money?

v Do you and your dolls share a fashion sense?

 

^ Sort of, in that Ed canonly doesn't have the best fashion sense (and neither does Jace, to my great amusement), and I am terrible at fashion. (Someone else picked out my "job interview" clothes, and I feel very fortunate that my current job is a casual dress code.) Plus, there's a bunch of stuff in my closet that legitimately looks like it should be part of a variant Ed cosplay... (this is not counting that my actual Ed cosplay is my favorite one.)

< heat waaaaave! Maybe I can finish Imaginos before the temp drops again in a couple of days...

v who are your best and worst dressed dolls? And what do they think of each other's fashion choices?

 

^ In a surprising twist of events my best dressed is also my worst dressed....
John alternately has my most expensive and nicest suit and was also the doll that a friend asked "Is he supposed to look like he gets his clothes from the goodwill?" to which I answered "my job here is done."
Basically John used to have a lot of money and he spent it all on an enormous wardrobe of heinously expensive suits. Now he has no money at all and his few friends give him old clothes they find in second-hand stores and they must have a horrible sense of humor because he's a grown man who owns a lot of unicorn shirts.
So, young and stylish John would be horrified to know what his future self looks like, and older misfortunate John alternates between not caring at all and being slightly ashamed.

V any fun doll projects you're currently working on?

 

^ Sorta? Nova has kinda been neglected as of late, I'm touching up his chipped faceup and making him a yarn wig to kind of bring him back into his own. I also have a new doll coming in a couple months that will be a lot of fun!

< I don't want to leave the house today. Winter weather in Utah is the worst, the air is flat-out toxic.

v Which came first, your dolls or their characters?

 

^ Mostly character before doll. But there are cases like: "Oh, Jack is home!" *opens the box* "Who the f*** are you?!" So... yeah. Like this.

< I feel sick. Is it stress? Is it illness? How the hell am I supposed to know, damnit...

v Is in your doll crew some "Master of complaining?"

 

^ I think I've largely steered clear of what seem to be the big "bjd cliches" in my crew? No pastel mohair-wigged MNFs (no mohair at all--cats!), no frilly lolita girls (is that still a thing? It was a thing when I first started getting interested), and my "super popular" sculpts are either the flavor of last month (Shiwoo, El), or not following the crowd (I think I have one of only two Sarang boys). I do have several MNFs though, a few gay/bi characters, a bunch of Sooms, and one particularly bodacious bust. There's no actively staying away from the "bjd cliches," though, it's just that my tastes don't necessarily match with them. (And I do vicariously enjoy all that stuff I don't have in my collection, yes, even the pastel mohair-wigged MNFs!)

< Wow. One of my character boys got new canon today, and it had all the feels and then some. I think I need a moment after that...

v What's the least common/popular sculpt in your collection (or on your wishlist)?

 

^None of my HZ boys are very popular sculpts but I love them. HZ is just a rare sight but they are gorgeous. I have new Guhu, XiaoHan, secondhand AoZhetian, and Schuester Fei.

v Again, any fun doll projects you're currently working on?

 

^ Yes! I'm working on a secret doll project for the meet up with my local BJD group! There is a White Elephant gift exchange and I'm hoping that what I'm making is something that anyone can enjoy for their doll!

< I picked up an extra shift at work and I hope I won't wind up regretting it! I love love love what I do, but even I need some free time to catch up on my crafts and enjoy my hobbies!

v Do you associate any animals with the characters of your dolls?

 

^ Adhara's character IS a feathered serpent not unlike some portrayals of Quetzalcoatl. However, her coloration is closer to black and red (with just hints of green iridescence), owing to the nature of the blood-soaked obsidian from which she was born.

< No no no why am I getting sick. Is it because I gorged on chicken nuggets yesterday?

v Is there any antagonism among your dolls' characters? Does it affect how you do photoshoots with them in any way?

 

^ Actually... Yes. For my big boys it's quite funny: They all are inofficially part of the same group like colleagues... But like I said just inofficially. Even though they all work for the same goal in the end two of them totally do not get along with each other, manipulate each other and often fight or argue over the most stupid things! These are my boys Aoi and Jia... Even if world would come to an end they'd never settle their private hatred against each other and rather die than fighting alongside each other...! And even though I wasn't able to show their great hate for each other in a photoshoot/-story yet directly (Aoi is in "spa holiday mood" for wig, clothes and face up making and Jia still needs a body on his own) I once shot a fun picture of Aoi with Jia's wig and I swear he looked so annoyed and pissed because he hated the hair so much even... And Aoi isn't even the one having a reason to hate Jia... Jia has a reason to hate the elder boy because Aoi once accussed him of murder and even arrested him and put him in jail for almost a month. Aoi still is convinced Jia is guilty of murder...

< Now I wanna write out Aoi's and Jia's backstory a little more again... XD

v Have you ever been to a doll meet and/or is any doll meet in the near future planned? And if not, would you want to go to one? (I've never been to one... I have the feeling no one lives where I live... ;3

 

^ There's a meetup by me this Saturday I'd like to attend. Last month was hectic, and my need to study overrode my desire to spend time with other doll people.

< I'm supposed to be working, but dang I'm easily distracted.

v As always, I'm going overboard with doll projects. Are you in similar circumstances, and if so, how do you manage?

 

^ ALWAYS. I have so many projects it's pathetic. I have more than 10 blank dolls right now, and it won't get any better because of the weather. And that's not even touching on the other doll projects I have on my plate.

Recently I made a list of things I needed to do and wrote some important ones on individual post-it notes and put them in my project notebook (which is where I write and doodle and keep track of things not very well) so I could really see what was important. As of last weekend I am actually working on one, and have gotten it to a point where I think I'll actually finish it. You have no idea how proud I am of this. I start a lot of things I don't finish...

Lately post-its have been a godsend for me. I don't know how I've lived my whole life without writing everything down on them. All the lists are on post-its now. Because then I can just toss them out when I decide they're not important anymore....and it's like they never existed XD

> I went from needing a couple doll bodies to needing about 6. What the hell happened?!

V Did you purchase any new resin during holiday events? Are you planning to?

 

^ I wanted. But sadly... no purchase. Just because I wasn't interested in the "event doll"... What would I do with tiny humanoid creature meant to be hidden in a shell? (I'm talking about that DollZone event). I don't want to buy a doll, get another tiny thing and then spend like a year trying to get rid of it. Hell no tinies! O_o
To be honest... I looked at several companies, from which I want to order doll (sooner or later)... but not of the events was good enough for me. So yeah, dolls had to wait yet again.

< After watchiing some videos from Kelly Eden, I really feel like watching Sailor Moon all over again. Movies included. And rather not talk about the Sailor Moon stuff I'd love to get. Urgh... I hate the pink lover inside of me. Really.

v Is there something your doll/character really enjoy... but hides it from everyone else?

 

^ Jia... Jia enjoys pole dancing in a sport's way (not the sexy club dancer kinda way)... The only person who actually knows is his boyfriend, all the others think he's doing some kind of hiphop dancing or something like that in the dance studio that's run by his aunty. The others wouldn't even care much about it but he feels kinda embarrassed by it which is ironic given the fact that he 1. usually never cares about what other think about him and 2. has the right body to do such sports and make it look very aesthetic! *o*

< If I just really had a body like that for him that I really could use for making pole dancing photoshoots... XD

v Let's turn this question around: Does your doll/character have a hobby that he talks so much about that your other characters annoyed of it already and wish he would shut up about it??

 

^ Seren is obsessed with video games. Nessa doesn't like chit-chat in general, but she can't stand it when he goes on and on and on about his games. She's too polite to say anything, and Seren probably wouldn't stop talking even if she did tell him to.

< Oooh, it's turned off so cold! It was in the 70's last week and now it's going to reach 4 F tonight. I wish things could be consistent.

v What sort of pet peeves do your doll/characters have?

 

^ Rue's biggest pet peeve is being touched or pulled while being spoken to (unless she's very friendly and comfortable with the person). Arshile is tricky but I'd say he gets most annoyed when people interject into conversations. And Stella hates people casually putting cilantro onto food like it's garnish.

< I can't believe Black Panther is only one month away

v If your doll (or doll family) went to the movie theater today, what film would they see?

 

^ They'd all go to different movies...
Jia probably would go watch "Greatest Showman": Jia is passionate about his dancing and somewhat of a showman himself... He loves to watch anything that has to do with entertainment, dancing, acting and so on...
Aoi would go see the new "Insidious": He loves horror movies in general and wouldn't miss out on any... XD
Reito would watch "Your name": Considering the fact that anime movies are still very rare here in German Cinemas... He'd love a bit of Japanese culture...
And Synti would go watch... "Paddington 2": She's a little child after all... X3

v What would your BJD character(s) read? Do they have any books actually? *o* Or are they not the biggest fans of reading?

 

^ Elliot does the most reading. And he likes reading the classics. He also likes poetry. The others don't read as much (or in Gobbie's, can't), but Ollie likes action adventure YA books and Ji-han like nonfiction. Maybe Ollie can teach Gobbie. But they don't even have the same language.

v What was your latest doll project?

 

^ the extremely heavy modding of a Ringdoll Kay head into (another version of) the Joker. Almost done. If I could do faceups he'd get finished sooner. But it's 1° out today...so no faceups. Which sucks I have like 15 heads that need it.

V Have you started on any of your 2018 BJD plans yet? (If you don't have plans you can make something up....)

 

^I haven't made any plans because last year was a complete opposite of what I had planned. Though I am getting two new Ringdolls, one in layaway a Ronald Style B fullset and the Judge of Hell. I would love it if they could bring the Judge to Doll Akon with them so I could get it straight from Shan.

< Supposed to be a deliveries today, one from Ikea another USPS. I'm kind of doubting the USPS one, and with freezing rain I may get a no go on the Ikea delivery.

v Have you made a 2018 dolly plan?

 

^ I do have quite a few dolly plans! They're in the Doll Plans 2018 forum already...
Some of them are: Making wigs and eyes, learning to make faceups, more sewing practice and getting at least one new doll this year (most likely a body for Jia only though)

v Now the first few weeks of the new year are over... How well did your dolls/characters start into the new year? Did their year start well? Or do they already have something to complain about? Or if not they, what about you? Did anything dolly-related happen to you this year, either good or bad, that marks this year an awesome or awful dolly-year?

 

^ John's idea of a perfect place to live would be an actual place where people are supposed to live with a bed, as opposed to the abandoned building he moved into where he sleeps in a chair.

> This is why I can't ever have props for my dolls.

V Do you have settings and/or for your dolls that are actually character-accurate? Or do you just have random stuff you use for all your dolls? Or no stuff at all?

 

^ Eh... nah... Natsume is on my grandmother's sofa for a year already... Nial and Nigel are sharing shelf with my flatmates plushies... and others are in the state of "spare parts"... Maybe I should try to do something with this...

< Over stressed! I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't even work, because I'm that stressed about everything! And now I am ill too. Great. Just... great. And it's 3:16 in the morning... I want to wake up at 10... should go to sleep already.

v Your doll is in antique store. Why are they there and are they going to buy something? If yes: what and why?

 

^ Hah, Adhara OWNS the antique store (not just antiques, though -- foreign curiosities, both legal and illegal, you name it), so she has to be there. Guórén is most likely there to inspect the goods for any traces of smuggled items, but even if he finds some, he'll let it off the hook because of a mutual agreement between him and the owner. He doesn't have too much cash to spend on luxury goods, but I think Adhara could tempt him with a compass. He may not know anything about how magnetism works, but something that points to a steady direction without fail was bound to appeal to him. Besides, it has practical use!

< Two drastically different dolls are vying neck and neck for the "BUY ME" position. Oh my, what am I to do? And I told myself I wouldn't get any new dolls anymore...

v Doll-ception! Does your doll's character like taking care of dolls?

 

^ Extreme cold. John doesn't have a lot of clothes, and what he has isn't very warm. Frost-bite is a real possibility.

> Why are short weeks the longest weeks?

V Do you change your dolls clothes to reflect the weather?

 

^ Sometimes depends on what I'm doing with them. I have tons of overcoats and stuff so it would be a waste not to use them in winter, plus lots of t-shirts and boardshorts for the summertime.

< Headache that started yesterday seems like it wants round two today, I really wish it would leave me alone.

v If you had a lovely tree stump in your yard would you try to make it look like an elf/fairy house?

 

^ Seren desperately wants a cat! He thinks it’s the perfect pet for cuddling with.
Nessa, on the other hand, wants livestock. She’s really interested in sheeps, goats, and chickens. No idea why.

< I can’t believe I left my card at home! I need a coffee this morning!

V If your dolls had to get jobs, what would their ideal job be? And... which job would they actually be qualified for?

 

^ Nigel kinda got his dream job? Somehow. He's writing for some magazines and is already working on his book. He's good with words. On a paper.
Nial... well, his ideal job is something, where he doesn't have to deal with people at all. And if he could choose, he'd love to not work. But money is needed... but he is still jobless.
And my fantasy guys? Sorry, not working at all.

< I passed one of my exam. Three to go. So I just watch movies today... to relax myself a bit. But... I actually need Estaz to cuddle... I should order his body next month after paycheck.

v Your doll/character got paycheck. After paying the important things (rent and stuff) they've got lots of money left. What would they do with them? Spend it? Leave it for "worse times"?

 

^ Basically all my boys would waste the money right away~ XD Especially Aoi... He'd waste it all for drinks... And cigarettes... XD

< I can't wait for May... Dokomi 2018 here in Germany... *o*

v Do you have Otaku dolls/characters? =3 If yes what are their favourite anime, games, manga, and so on?

 

^Both Seren and Nessa enjoy anime and manga, but Nessa would never consider herself an otaku! She's prissy and keeps her love of all things 'Magical Girl' and shoujo hidden. Heaven forbid anyone find out about her embarrassing teen-girl crush on Yuki Sohma!
Seren doesn't care what anything thinks so he's open with what he loves! He's a fan of the Final Fantasy series and Kingdom Hearts, really.. anything Square Enix! He's not a fan of drama, so he likes slice of life and sports anime/manga like Haikyuu!! and Azumanga Daioh.

< Payday is tomorrow! I'm so excited for my weekly 'Payday Date' with my girlfriend! I want to surprise her with a movie this time.

v Do your dolls/characters prefer books, movies, or television series for their entertainment?

 

^ Movies and TV aren't around during my dolls' character's storyline, unfortunately. While both of them appreciate a good book or two, their favorite forms of entertainment are the Noh theatre and the then-fledgling Kabuki movement. Adhara is especially fond of Kabuki, owing to the circumstances of her first love.

< Eyes, eyes, eyes! I'm loving my dolls' new eyes!

v Are any of your dolls' characters multilingual? Fictional languages count!

 

^ Jupp, since the basic story around my boys plays in a fictional town in China all my boys can speak Chinese (I know nothing about Chinese actually... but they just speak Chinese of course XP). Aoi and Reito though are originally Japanese. So they also speak Japanese. And due to international business at work Aoi also is fluently speaking English (and actually many more languages...) Synti is a demon, she speaks only one language that's the language of the demons but it psychically gets translated to any language so all the others understand her. ^-^

< Our heater at home is broken... I am so cold... ;-;

v Do your dolls/characters have any vacation plans or places they really want to visit?

 

^ Clover always likes visiting Ireland, one because it's her birth place but also because she has many fond memories there.

v would your doll characters be concidered well off in the money category?

 

^ Tacet is, for a while. Her father is an exceptionally rich businessman, so much so that they call him the unofficial king of his world. Then he is killed, and the souls he sold all explode, and this blows the house sky-high and leaves her with nothing...

< i should study psych. Am I going to? No.

V what doll project are you procrastinating?

 

^ Faceups. And wigs. And making clothes. And customizing Gobbie in general. My dolls are a secret, and my job is busy, so I rarely have space or time.

> Come on, self. You have to get up so you can do your evaluation.

v What grails have you had and did you obtain any of them?

 

^ My grails are the DZ Yuu and the Illusion Spirit Xiao Ji. And I've both of them obtaint! *-* Another grail I'd like to obtain would be a Migidoll Jina and Cho... XD

< My back hurts so freakin' much... It kills me...

v Did you ever get a doll and sell it right after getting it...? For what reason?

 

^ Hm... This never happened to me. I sometimes feel more like "shelter" for dolls I already met (Nial belonged to my friend, Natsume to other friend of mine). And I love them all dearly. I was thinking about selling my DearMine Dorothy, but... She's just too cute, I can't do that (and my mom loves her and told me: "Don't you dare to sell her!")

< Ooooch, it was so great to say "Cosplay is not my top prioroty anymore." I could feel the pressure lifting from my body! Now I can concentrate more on dolls and school. And yes! The end of February will be the time to order my new doll!

v Doll owners often have pets! Do you have one? What kind of animal is that and how do they act around your dolls?

 

^I've been to a few. They were nice experiences

<Have been planning to work on a body blushing, but keep putting it off. The boy's strung with just one loop, and I'm wondering if I should restring him with the two loop method afterwards or just stick with the original style (He's still got the original string, and I'm thinking I might just change it---if I get around to doing the body blushing that is)

V Speaking of stringing, what's the weirdest company doll stringing style you've dealt with (or heard of)?

 

^ Definitely Resinsoul. They strung the dolls arms up through the neck and I find that weird. I am not a fan of crisscrossing strings in the hips or using one piece per leg either, but putting the arms up through the neck is the weirdest that I've had.

V Have you ever attempted mods on your dolls? Do you ever want to?

 

^ I want to, but I still have no doll to try it. And to be honest, I'm pretty scared of it. It's still too expensive hobby to mess something up. And I don't have the money to pay for my mistake :/ But one day I'll definitely try something. Well... I plan piercings and scars in the future, so it will be fun.

< I never regreted not buying Estaz sooner as much as I do now. I really need my big cuddly boy here now.

^ 'Crazy' sounds somewhat negative to me but it sure isn't meant like that when I talk about the absoultely 'crazy' mods BJD collector Sadomina does with her dolls. *o* The best in my opinion is her DF-A Anime head she turned into an owl head. An OWL! *o* She's on instagram and here on DoA as well if I am not mistaken... But be warned, there might be some shocking images as well maybe.

^ Whoever did that fungus zombie (it's in the project journals somewhere), and the one who turned the DF head into Groot. I don't know anyone's name!! D:
Also Buff is working on the Hulk and that is amazing. There's actually a lot of great comic mods in the comicbook character thread...someone else (not me) did a Two-Face that was amazing. Also NightCrawler.

^ Hmm, you already took the fungus one... I saw someone do a mod of a Resinsoul into their little goblin character and at the end it was spot on. I've rarely seen someone get so close to their original concept. There was also a pretty cool Nightcrawler, and several impressive mobility mods, including the one on the Nobility Muscle girl body.
