^ I don't really have a preference! I have mostly full dolls, but I love a well-done hybrid. Full dolls are so much easier, but I'm often picky about my body choices and making sure they fit the character I have in mind. They take more research to get right, but it's usually well worth it imo. I've run into a few cases where I'll love a body, but not the hands, or some other small feature, so I'm pretty willing to mix and match.

v Same question! Do you prefer full dolls or hybrids? Why?

 

^ Hybrids. I am pretty picky, and usually a face sculpt immediately comes to mind with a character with a certain body type (or in one case, a body comes to mind with a character with a certain face type). That being said, I think I am a little burnt out on hybrids for now, so I am glad I only have one left in my plans.

v Which doll is your cheapest, and which is your most expensive? Bonus points for pics!

 

^ My most expensive doll, by probably twice the next most expensive doll I own (more than twice if you count shipping and fees), is my Volks Michele. He was my grail, so no regrets.


my least expensive is Two-Face.


He's a modded Dollzone cosmo on a Popodoll body (also modded). The PPD body I bought second hand for way less than a new one, but his head was sold to me by a friend who knew it was for TF for only $50. She also sold me his first body (Mirodoll) for $25! So originally he was a $75 doll XD (and technically I bought the PPD body for another head anyway)

V Do you own any hybrids? Why or why not?

 

^Three-fourths of my collection are hybrids, it just worked out that way. I love my purebloods but some of my favorites are hybrids and amazing dolls.

< My Souldol Federer-elf is supposed to be home today, another hybrid in the making! I need to cover my cardboard palm today no matter what hubby says, my potted boy needs a blanket.

v Do discontinued sales tempt you into debt?

 

^ They can tempt me into spending my savings, but I have yet to use credit on any purchases and I hope to keep it that way.

v Which doll would you say is your cutest?

 

^ Probably Synti, my DZ Senna. She is on the creepy-cute side due to the company faceup but that makes her especially cute to me! *o*

V Who is your strangest doll? (picturesssssss!!)

 

^ Lukas is my strangest doll. He is the result of a transformation into a Gaia-shaman, part animal, vegetable and mineral. The protector of the earth or at least his little part of it. The transformation worked in his case (others have perished during the transformation).


< Too cold for anything maybe I'll get some work done on my NaNaWriMo story or maybe I'll play Amnesia some more.

v What is your strangest doll, or concept for a doll you are wanting to make?

 

^ Gobbie, my old goblin lady. I finally dyed her green, but I still need to glue hair to her head, hands and feet, glue piercings on her ears, and make her a little sort of borrowers/tribal sort of outfit. But NaNo and applications have eaten up my time. Here is how she's been for the past month or so.

v What sculpt would you drop all your current plans for if it appeared right now?

 

^ gooooooood question. I am saving up to either hunt a delf soony or order a supia nael before they discontinue the body. I guess nael is the set goal, and soony would be the "OMG TAKE MY SAVINGS" one :P

v if someone offered you your grail doll in exange of your favourite doll in your current collection, would you do it?

 

^ I guess I wouldn't... o3o First I've my grail at home anyways (even though he's a never ending project XD) but even if I hadn't I'd not exchange anyone else from my crew just to get my grail... They've all so much effort put into them in terms of crafting stuff for them, saving up and especially waiting! So I'd continue waiting if I could buy my grail instead of exchanging one of my little ones for it.

< Winter is coming... It's really cold here now in the mornings... Remember to dress up warm enough!

v Who's your current grail and is there any chance you'll get it soon?

 

^ my lishe, yuuki, is my grail doll and I proudly own her! But as for new Grail dolls, probably soom amber, and I don't foresee me getting one anytime soon.

v do you have any supernatural characters for your dolls? What's your favorite type of character to have?

 

^well, of they’re not magical species from my fantasy series (demigods and other magic users), they’re definitely grim reapers, which make up a number of my dolls.

< @SacredMonsoon which movie? I’m rewatching hopefully soon...

V would your dolls prefer to be vampires or werewolves?

 

^ huh, I think resoundingly vampires. Except for Emily, who is already part sheep, I feel like she would want to be a werewolf to see how the 'other side' lives.

< Homework is slowly killing me, but at least have a have dolly company.

v How often do you clean/restring your doll(s) if at all?

 

^ I don't restring but I clean yuuki with a magic eraser when I see stains, but that's very rare.

< @Chameleon I just watched new moon! They're on Netflix! But now I'm watching Christmas films! Haha!

v do your dolls collect anything? Trinkets or hobbies?

 

^ They certainly have a great collection of alcohol (Mini samples that looks exactly like the original bottle of the spirit/wine works perfect for dolls btw)

< My back is hearting fairly badly for doing face-ups all day long and I just wanna be a couch potato for the rest of today :P

v Do you have a favorite independent doll maker? If not then which company do you like the best?

 

^ Twigling! Everything she sculpts is incredible!!! I have an ingenue head and a gamine head, but the dream is to be able to buy a body for another character, or a full doll in teal?

< @SacredMonsoon nice! I had a Harry Potter marathon before I went to see the newest one, but I’m thinking I’ll rewatch twilight Saturday. Anything with vampires is a guilty pleasure of mine

^ La Legende de Temps, if only because I have two of their heads.

v Which doll have you worked on the most recently?

 

^ I'm getting my Resinsoul/Ringdoll hybrid Sky done at long last. He's not quite presentable yet but we're making progress!

< I own so many silly storage things, shelves, mannequins, sets of drawers, that pretty soon I'm going to need a storage system for all my storage systems. I have way too much crap to live in such a small apartment.

v Have you ever dressed up to "match" your doll?

 

^ No, but one of my dolls dresses to "match" me sometimes. I've been cosplaying as Ed Elric for years, and my most well-outfitted Ed doll has a coat that's made using the same pattern as mine, and using fabric remnants from when I made it! I plan to do the same with the other two, too, though I don't think I have enough remnant fabric to do the 1/3 scale coat.

< It's so nice to get a short break from home improvement projects... it's a little frustrating that "repaint the walls" turned into two weeks of marathon hard work, but I'm more satisfied with the current results than with what I would have had if we'd repainted disintegrating ugly wood paneling!

v If time, skill/sourcing, and money weren't factors, what would be your ideal outfit for your doll(s)?

 

^ I listed out a lot before I saw "outfit" was singular. Ahem.

For Elliot, a vest, button up shirt, fall-front khakis, brogues, and a blazer.
For Ollie, overalls, but the more tailored, fitted kind, with a t-shirt and hi-tops.
For Ji-han, a three-piece suit. Tailored, and all black and white.
For Ingrid, I'm torn between a leotard/workout outfit and a flowery dress. Probably the former, sounds harder to make.
For Gobbie, a straw hat, sandals, and a wrap skirt and top, and maybe an arm guard.

> At this rate, I won't even finish. That would be a pain.

v What outfits do you wish your dolls had?

 

^ If everyone could just have matching school uniforms that fit them, I'd be so happy!

< I'm moving into a new house 2 hours away from my old house on the 4th and I'm SO nervous about moving all my dolls! And this is just a (sort of) temporary move until I can get a new house built, which will take a year. I kind of feel like I should take a break from the hobby, but at the same time I love my dolls too much to stop!

v What's your biggest frustration about the bjd hobby?

 

^ Kind of a sad problem, I have too many but when I think of who to pass on I can't think of many I can live without. It's frustrating because I love the characters they represent so it's difficult to try to prune them down. I have managed to reshell a few with new heads but that hasn't reduced my total. I feel overwhelmed with so many, when I can't give them all the attention they deserve.

< I should turn the heat back on tonight it's still cold out there.

v What do you do when you see a doll you'd love to have, even if you don't have a character for it?

 

^ Tell myself I can't have them, but come back to drool every once in a while anyway. That is what I do with my longtime dolly desire DS Saint. I've never been able to give him a satisfactory character, so I won't let myself buy him. The lack of funds and easy availability (on the secondary market anyway) help. But I've gotten better at giving dolls characters. Why, just recently I saw a limited and came up with a decent character on the spot. But lack of funds still says no.

Another important thing is dynamic, so if they are too similar to someone else or their character feels a bit weak (what I managed to convince myself for that limited) they can't be shelled either. That doesn't always work though. I told myself that I was at my limit, that I have enough personalities bouncing off each other and each new idea already fills a similar role to someone I already have, but that isn't stopping me from considering a MDR Fang, another doll I've liked for a while. And with a redesign, the old excuse of her head being too big is gone. Hopefully she isn't released in tan (I've been wanting a lighter tan doll), but she probably will be. Yeah, I'm probably losing that fight.

v Passing on: What do you do when you see a doll you'd love to have, even if you don't have a character for it?

 

^ OH, you mean like half of my dolls at the beginning? xD If I wanted it bad enough, I'd purchase it. My collection is pretty split in half on planned vs wanted. If I REALLY wanted something, I go for it and plan in the waiting process or as they arrive. That's the one positive thing about the waiting game-- even if you buy a doll on a whim wiht no plans, you typically have a few months to prepare anyways. :P

< American thanksgiving is tomorrow and I honestly can't wait for 4 days off. :P

v Have you ever had someone buy you a doll, and how would you react if someone did?

 

^ Yes, I have! Yuuki was my Christmas present from my mom! I was so grateful, I still am, and I love her even more because she was a gift.

< almost done writing my book! Only a few thousand more words!

v would you ever write a story based on your dolls?

 

^ All the time. I'm supposed to be doing Nano right now (but I have not made it halfway) and it's about John but several of my other dolls have made an appearance already. I have written a lot about Alex. I had comic about him, but I just stopped doing it one day and have yet to go back...

> I have no desire to be at work today. I'm ready for that four-day weekend!

V What are your doll plans for the rest of the year?

 

∆ Sewing for my twigling girl and finding new ways of storing my BJDs' clothes. It's going to be ... Interesting.

< I don't know how I am going to squeeze 3 shelves of books into one. Where's the wand when you need it???

V will your next BJD arrive before or after Xmas?

 

^ I just discovered today that the BJD I planned to order next has been discontinued, so sadly he'll be arriving loooong after Christmas, if I can find him at all. (If you know someone selling a NS Soul Doll Nino, send 'em my way!)

< It's so frustrating when a sculpt you want gets discontinued. The same thing happened years back when I wanted a tan Illusion Spirit Phoenix. I'm not about to deny companies the right to change up their inventory, but like... Gah!

v Have you ever wanted a sculpt that was discontinued before you could get it?

 

^ Oh yes... There are quite a few on my wish list... Like DZ Megi and Mo in MSD size and quite a few more...

v Is there any winter event doll you've seen so far this year that you totally need~? ^-^

 

^i swore, I didn’t need any doll I’d seen so far. I swore my CD Jonasson was the last of the year (he was now, third last...). The new f60 boy is perfect for a character I’ve had for 5 years though...

V any winter events anyone else is getting into?

 

^ I'll give this game a shot! The main gal I am planning is called Saorise. She would enjoy a lot of music. If it works very well for acapella, she is very happy. Her world doesn't have notable composers to name, unfortunately.

< Hoping that it is okay for me to partake in games with an idea of a doll rather than have a doll~
I just have character ideas. ^_^

v Do you have tons of ideas for who could totally work as a doll?

 

^ Definitely! I'm a writer and I always come up with new characters when I see new sculpts. Though I used to think I would shell every character, I've since learned not to get too many ideas! Lol~

< changing Dolly names is a lot of thought, I wish it were as easy as other character names.

v do you think you could change bits of your dolls character even after owning them for years?

 

^ For sure! Some of my dolls I'm collecting have existed as characters long before they were shelled, and it seems like they're always making progress, updating the little things, fitting into a grander narrative than ever existed eight years ago. I'm kind of proud of the progress some of my characters have made, weird as that sounds.

< I've put out a WTB post on every secondhand doll marketplace I can think of. Here's hoping someone with a Souldoll NiNo they don't want anymore decide to seek me out, haha...

v How well do your dolls "get along"? Are there friend dynamics, enemies, cold indifference?

 

^ Yuuki would definitely be a very clingy sick friend to Fluke and the others. She'd want to be taken care of and doted upon.
Fluke would probably just sleep loads and stay in his room. He's definitely a more quiet sick person than yuuki lol

^I make all of my dolls Christmas outfits!! However, my group needs to be updated as I've had some changes. Soon!

V Any new years doll resolutions you're thinking over?

 

^ The usual. No buying new dolls. I want a handful of heads (for bodies I already have) and a handful of bodies (for heads I already have) and that's it. NO MORE.
Also to finish up a lot of my projects and remake a group of my dolls.

V What are your big BJD 2019 plans?

 

^ No new characters, meaning no new dolls. Maybe replace a few bodies and heads with better matching ones. Seriously work on the second floor (attic) of the Pub.

v Does your New Years resolution have anything to do with dolls this year?

 

^ I'd like my resolution to be acquiring some new dolly stuff and starting my diorama once I'm moved. And probably to sew some clothes!

v what do your dollies think of cold weather? Do they like it or not?

 

^ Jun loves winter, and the silence that comes with the falling snow. She thrives in the cold. Most of the others can take it or leave it.

< I know I'm just seeing what I want to see, but there's a doll on the Marketplace that looks similar to one I've been wanting... Hm.

v Are your dolls dressing for the holiday season?

 

^ I'll go with the planned shelling of Saorise to answer this; Saorise's wishlist is more on getting the people she cares about together for the winter holiday. Catching up, as well as playing some games. That counts, right?

< I wish I slept normally enough that I don't feel tired right now. :<

v For the winter holidays, does your doll prefer material or do they focus on the sentimental?

 

^ Let's for a moment overlook the fact, that I don't have a doll right now - but Anders should be on his way, so I'll just use him.
As he gives everything away to help others and doesn't own much just to be able to pack and run fast, sentimental it is. He feels guilty about getting things, as he feels je cannot replay it. Therefore he mostly tries to get the holiday feel right for everyone.

< I should be sleeping. I am going to regret this in the morning.

v Do your dolls prefer outside fun in the snow or warm and cozy rest near the fireplace?

 

^ Elliot definitely wants wants warm and cozy, while Ollie would love snow. Ji-han and Ingrid would split the different. I feel like Ingrid could power through any cold and would go jogging in the freezing cold in just sweats, while Ji-han would have fun for a bit, but would definitely spend more time inside warming up.

As for Gobbie, what's the point of going out in the cold when there's warmth and food inside? She doesn't understand the concept.

But it doesn't really snow here, so the warmth lovers are winning out.

v Are you getting your dolls any presents, or buying any doll presents for yourself/anyone else?

 

^ I'm taking part in a Secret Santa with a bunch of BJD peeps, so I'm getting doll presents for a stranger. That count?

v In a talent show, what would your doll's character show off?

 

^well, A few of my dolls excell at archery, so they'd probably show off with some target practice.

<Happily completed 2 faceups with the rare warm weather in December here in Buffalo, NY :P

vHave you ever done photostories for your dolls?

 

^ A few, about a million years ago. One with my (then) five Dollmore Kara Klum, one with two minis about Christmas, and one with the mini versions of my Gotham villains (that I don't own anymore) watching Gotham on tv. That's it. I don't do them much....I don't have the sets or props for my dolls that I would want to do real photostories or I might try.

V Your doll runs away to join the circus. What circus performer do they become?

 

^ Well, he is a mage, so magic would be easy for him. But I think he wouldn't do that. He would have a show with his ginger cat. Nothing too fancy - he is free spirited and he would not approve of training an animal to do tricks against its will - so it would be just a aww-worthy heartmeltingly cute. But his true job wouldn't be "on stage" - he is a healer, so he would do just that - taking care of the sick and injured. Both people and animals.

< Working in a toyshop is cool. But then the Christmas time came. I suddenly regret my decision.

v Does any of your dolls have a pet?

 

^ Not any pets, but a few have stuffed toys.
< I hope my second hand doll gets here this week!
v Which of your dolls is your favorite? Why?

 

^ Ash (my Avatar) is my favorite, because he was my first and the first one I fell in love with. I have a lot of other's that I just love their faces but Ash and his character is so much a part of me, he remains my favorite.

< I hope that my miracle doll will arrive between Christmas and the Lunar New Year holidays. It would be terribly sad if I had to wait until the end of February to get him.

v Do you have or have you had an arrival during the holidays, how did it go?

 

^ I ordered Feather in December of 2010, and she came the day after Valentine's day. I believe Fluke came around November, so they both had holiday times, and it was fun anticipating their arrivals around Christmas!

< feeling anxious like crazy today. Ugh..

v your dolls having a bad hair day, what do they do?

 

^ John's whole life is a bad hair day.

> So the post is taking forever now since it's "the holidays" and everything is delayed anyway and now they aren't going to deliver tomorrow? I'm starting to think FedEx might be faster! (lol jk there's no way in hell)

V What do you do when your doll is having a "bad hair day?" Or, what kinds of things do you do to your doll's wigs to keep or make them nice again?

 

^ the doll-wig equivalent of turning it off and turning it on again, which for me is taking off the wig and brushing it, then putting it back on and hope for the best. If it doesn't work it's time for hat!

< I need a setup to spray indoors. I can't be confined to doing faceups during two and a half month a year only!!

v if you could make your doll(s) faceup 100% permanent (aside from sanding, obviously), would you?

 

^ Nope! My taste change, and my skills are still improving. I probably change faceups every couple of months. That being said, the overall look doesn't change that much, it is just me trying to get closer and closer to the image in my mind.
