^ Waiting for my second doll, Ringdoll Raven

< I don't want to go to school I say, actively driving myself to school, grumbling loudly.

v Who is your oldest (relevant) OC? Have you shelled them or are in the process of? Were they the character that drew you into the hobby?

 

^ Aelic is my oldest relevant OC right now, and he's shelled. He's maybe...seven years old? Which isn't too old, but considering how often I make new characters, it's pretty old. I have redone his backstory and everything a couple times ('cause he was originally tied in with a friend's characters, but that kind of dissolved over time), but he's still basically the same. I've had the doll for around five years.

< I'm so tired. And tired of digging. My back is screaming and I want Taiki to get here. *complains*

v Do you have any aesthetics/styles of BJD (or other doll) you'd never want? Why?

 

^ If there's one thing I've learned from this hobby, it's that I should never say never. That said, I don't think I'd ever get a super realistic style doll, since I prefer the more stylized aesthetic. But I can't definitively say it would never happen, either.

< I'm stuck in the "it doesn't work and I don't know why" half of the programming loop. I would like to get to the other half ("it works and I don't know why") sometime today please.

v Have you ever changed your mind on something you said you'd never did in this hobby?

 

^ After the fiasco with my much-hated JID, I swore I'd never purchase another Iplehouse doll. I now own 4, including my Pet Doll.

< My hand hurts like crazy and I don't know why. I was wearing my wrist brace last night and everything. But, on the plus side, it's nearly Friday, and yesterday I received the eyes I ordered for my Vindoll.

V What's your favourite eye material? (silicone, resin, glass, acrylic, urethane, etc.)

 

^ urethane because of the colour selection. I like glass too (I think glass and urethane feel simillar) but the colours are rarely good. Most are really cheap so it's good starter eyes

< speaking of which I want to place a big eye order soon. I can't pick a colour for my doll so I'm just gonna try them all!

v if you could pick any one LE or discontinued doll to be re-released, which one would it be?

 

^I wouldn't want an LE doll re-released but if I could get an LE it would be Loongsoul Black Tortoise - JunShi. He is just my style.

v How many of your current dolls would you trade for your grail doll?

 

^ Seriously? All of them except Tyler and possibly Aubrey. At this point, I'd probably trade the whole lot for less than my grail.

V If you could only keep one of your current dolls, which would it be?

 

^Well...if I absolutely had to...probably my Ringdoll Qinzhe, because he was my first doll and I have the closest attachment to him.... (Please don't tell the other two! It's not like I don't love them either....)

<Started thinking about giving my Aramy (Mystic Kids QingCen) Ringdoll hands, because I hate his current hands, and then realized I missed a prime opportunity to see how Ringdoll and MK white resin compares because I ordered a Ringdoll Wolf head recently...in normal skin. There was no reason he couldn't have been WS instead! Now I'm kicking myself daily. (I guess I could ask the forum but seriously, it would have been so easy to do it in person).

VHow do your dolls handle spicy food?

 

^ All of them likes it, but... well, Will is the one who LOVES spicy food just too much ^^".

< I've just realised it's been quite a while since the last time I wrote anything in english o.o. God, I feel so insecure right now I just hope people can at least understand me XD!

v Is your first doll still with you?

 

^ Yes, both halves. I swapped his body a while back, but I'm planning to get a new head for that body, so it's still here.

< Ugh... I hate when issues turn out to be bigger than they should have been...

v How do your dolls deal with frustration?

 

^ Katie chucks aside whatever is frustrating her and leaves it to rot. (Unless it's her violin, then she comes back to it after a short while.)
Mara usually manages to keep her cool and be the responsible adult ... unless the Italian temper she inherited from her Mum gets the better of her. Then she explodes, cools down again, and continues being a responsible adult.

< That moment you realize your dolls' OCs are more mature than yourself.
How's everybody been doing? Work is keeping me so busy I feel like I'm missing everything ...

v Was there ever anything in the doll hobby that took you by complete surprise?

 

^ I'm still kind of surprised my favorite doll isn't really my favorite anymore....and a little sad. Also, when did all my dolls start wearing insanely expensive suits instead of normal clothes? I'm surprised how completely my taste in dolls has shifted. Really surprised.

V Are there any dolls out there you'd love to own but they don't fit any plans or work with your collection?

 

^ dollmore illua! I always loved the body of the lusion dolls, ut they're too big for me. The small versions are really tempting, but they're a bit of an odd size. Like 1/3 children. And I have no plan to have children in my collection.

v have you ever been disappointed by a doll right out of the box? Were you able to fix the problem or did you let them go?

 

^ Yes. My first doll was a B&G Nailo Elf, and I was disappointed with the 3D product once it was in my hands. He did not look or photograph the way I was expecting when he was purchased, AND he came with some very minor/superficial chips on his lips over the faceup, and his ears look a bit rough inside. Needless to say, my disappointment kind of stunted my start and I neglected him quite a bit. I still have him. I have a sentimental attachment to him as he is my first doll, and he was purchased for me as a gift by my mom and she was so excited for me to have him and join the hobby (she's always tried to help me find crafty hobbies), and he's grown on me a bit recently. I just had to.. stuff him in a box and leave him there for a long time, and scrap his original character. I'm in the process of remaking him, and when my wallet recovers from buying my new doll, he will be getting shipped out to get a new faceup, which is probably a huge shame since he's a LE ^^;; BUT I never plan on getting rid of him, so it's cool.

v Indoor or outdoor photoshoots? Staged or candid backdrops? Large or small meetups?

 

^ Lately, it's been outdoor photoshoots--in my defense, I live someplace REALLY pretty. ^^; Um, so mostly candid backdrops, I suppose, since there's only a bare minimum of staging you can do outdoors. And I like larger meet-ups, because I can just sort of disappear into the background and admire all the pretty dolls.

< Wow, it's been a year since I moved. And everything is still a disorganized mess.

v What's the most risky picture you've ever taken of your doll? If you've played it safe, what sort of risky picture would you like to take, even if you have no intention of putting your doll in such a precarious position?

 

^ That I can remember, I guess it was when I sat Toshi in a tree for these pictures. It was a pretty flimsy tree and kind of a breezy day, so I tried to keep at least a couple fingers on him at all times. He didn't fall over or anything thiugh, though I did have to take a Q-tip to some spots that got some bark scrapes on them. Nothing serious!

< I've decided that my new boy is gonna be named Takashima Taiki. I love my little ghostly traveler already~

v What kinds of TV shows does your doll/character like? (Game shows, documentaries, competition shows, cooking shows, etc.)? (If they don't like TV, imagine they were forced to watch for a while. )

 

^ No TV in the house. But if there was one, I guess it'd be a merry mix of documentaries (Katie, Timmy, Chris), cooking shows (Mara, mostly), and geeky stuff like Netflix's Marvel series (Sven, Mike, Lauren, Katie) and maybe the occasional game show, probably coupled with a drinking game or two as they're watching.

< My older goddaughter claimed to be talking to one of their garter noodles the other day. Once her Hogwarts letter arrives two years from now, I'll be godmum to a bitty parselmouthy Slytherin.

v Which Hogwarts house would your dolls be in?

 

^ Elliot would be a Ravenclaw, Ollie would be a Gryffindor, and Ji-Han would be a Slytherin. Alas, no Hufflepuffs, though if I ever got my goblin woman, she probably would be,=.

v If your doll had to be turned into an animal for a day, what would they pick?

 

^ Hum..... probably a dog? He has a dog already that he really likes, so they could pal around and be friends. Or maybe a little bird so he could sit on his boyfriend's shoulder? Hehe.

> Just got a call from work telling me I don't have to come in til Sunday and as much as I like time off I'm a little distressed about it. I need those hours!!

v Do you like handmaking clothes for your dolls, or would you rather buy them premade or commission someone else to make them for you?

 

^ I like buying pre-made. Shopping for clothes is so fun! ^_^ until you see all the sold out listings that would have been perfect for your doll <_<

v most of the time, do you perfer natural or unnatural hair colours for your dolls?

 

^ Natural. I mean, a young woman can technically have white hair, right?

v What would your doll choose, a sweet breakfast or a savory breakfast?

 

^ Savory breakfasts. Hot and spicy breakfast tacos.

< So hot, 103F heat index. It's gonna be hard to get in my exercise during the day.

v Do you have a character that complains about everything or one that is a very passive character?

 

^ Ilya is a bit of a complainer, but only about things that don't actually matter. As soon as something is actually wrong, he'll insist rhat everything is fine. Toshi is more the passive type; he likes to just kind of go through life and tries to react to things as appropriately as possible and doesn't complain much.

< Uugggg, why does Taiki have to get here when I'm out of town??? I don't wanna waaaaiitttttt...

v Your character is let loose in a supermarket for an unlimited shopping spree. How do they spend their money? Do they stock up responsibly, or buy enough junk food to float a battleship?

 

^Unnamed girl (I'm thinking Agatha) would buy a tooooooon of delicious food that she didn't know how to properly prepare and end up making the most inedible garbage and eat it anyway. Luna (soon to be shelled) would pile high with cakes and chocolate and sweets and soda but then be like "Damn I should get something healthy." and then grab some spary cheese and a can of pringles.
<I'm so damn thirsty rn but I refuse to use a water fountain. That's just gross.
vDoes your doll love to dress out their and wild, super cute and sweet or pretty averagely?

 

^ Most of my dolls are guys, and not particularly flashy dressers. XD My ladies are pretty average dressers too, really. I'm not into super-cute or really elaborate fashions. ^^;

< *fidgets* why is the last part of waiting on a doll the longest part? It's only going to be a few more weeks, but nope, NOW I get impatient.

v What's the longest wait you're willing to tolerate for a brand new doll?

 

^ I waited 54 weeks for my Dollshe Arsene but I didn't do it willingly. I willingly will wait 4 months for a doll, if it is going to be longer than that I usually look around for another company with a sculpt I like or secondhand if I absolutely have to have that doll.

v What was the quickest you have gotten a new doll?

 

^ Less than two weeks? I buy used pretty often. Goodness knows what I'll do when I eventually have to buy a body new.

v How did you choose your first doll compared to how you chose your latest?

 

^My first doll was a gift, my mom picked him out and ran it by me right before purchasing but i was so caught up in the fact that she was buying him for me I didn't even think about it. My second and latest doll I'm waiting for just embodied exactly what I've always been looking for in a male doll for myself, I barely had his character developed but he was absolutely perfect for what I wanted and I bought him that day.

v Would you ever write your character story in novel form? Have you started, or do you dabble in it?

 

^I'm one novel and an exposition of a prequel into a series for one of my doll universes. That's about 142k words in total.

<I can't believe she looks like I wanted her to after all this time! Bless slight additions to faceups.

V of you were to write a novel about them, which of your dolls would be the protagonist?

 

^ Elliot. He was meant to be "the one doll", he is usually the viewpoint used, he's more or less the main character.

v Have any hybrids?

 

^A few fashion dolls and a customized DCSHG Wonder Woman head on a Made To Move Barbie but I'm already planning to get a new body for my SD doll I have in the mail rn. Probably something from Resinsoul once I figure out the right skin match.
<It's only 11? I'm so tired.
vWhat's the most nerve-wracking mod you have done?

 

^ it's not done yet, but my automail mods on very much not inexpensive FairyLand bodies were a little tough to start! Now that I've started and can't take it back anymore, it's a lot easier, but the first cut on both dolls was anxiety-inducing!

< yay for a half day! Boo for my system not compiling again.

v What do your dolls like to do on the weekend?

 

^ In summer the hobbits will have breakfast in bed, then prepare a picknick basket, and nip out to meet up someplace nice just after a quick bite of second breakfast. They'll have an elevenses picknick, head over to either the Underhills' or the Proudfoots' ("Proudfeets!") hole for lunch, then spend the remainder of the afternoon having tea on the lawn, with cakes and pipe-weed and everything a hobbit needs. After that it's dinner in the pub and a half-pint or five apiece ... good luck finding out what they get up to after that, they likely won't remember.

< I desperately need more doll time. Real Life is taking over and it's sucking like things inappropriate for a 13+ forum.

v i need some positivity .... what would be your doll's best day ever?

 

^ My dolls perfect day would probably be when I finally get around to buying a doll to shell her planned boyfriend. I'm sure she'd also really like the day that my mom's cat stops stealing her sock too though.

< I really don't think I should have stayed up until 5 in the morning.

v When buying a doll, what comes first to you? picking a sculpt, or creating a personality/character for the doll?

 

^ depends. Usually it's about choosing dolls to match with characters I've had since at least grade 10, if not earlier (I've had Rina since I was 8.) Sometimes, I'll absolutely need a doll enough that I'll make them a character to justify buying them. This is how Famine and the whole horsemen arc started. Her girlfriend is a similar situation. I fell madly in love with a Soom minigem, but wanted her in SD size and now I'm stuck trying to make stained glass wings.

V what would your doll's major be if they were to go to university?

 

^ Elliot: English Literature
Ollie: Physical Education
Ji-Han: Business Communication

v What would your dolls watch at the movies?

 

^ Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2. It's funny, interesting, has good music, and he could take my OT girl (they share a story for now) to go see it because it's only PG-13

v Your doll can learn any language real or fictional and it will only take five minutes to learn completely due to a magic spell or something, which language do they learn?

 

^Red learned French, Because her... can I even call her Red's girlfriend? The girl she has a series of meaningless one night stands with and falls for hard. But she's a native French speaker, and Red Would wonder if she'd like her better if she spoke French at all.

V who is the next doll character you plan to shell?

 

^ Currently unnamed, female counterpart to my incoming Ringdoll Raven. I'm leaning towards FeePle65 Chloe, but I would have to mod her to have human ears... and idk if I'm completely sold on her sculpt yet. I also haven't decided if they're in a relationship or just closeknit cohorts, two snarky assholes in a flirtationship. But I do need to figure her out soon so I can start saving... I need the perfect face sculpt and a body close to scale with a 70cm boy does that even exist wtf

v What's your doll universe like?

 

^ Most of my crew are avatars for either tabletop RPG chracters or roleplayed MMO toons, so their worlds run the range from anime-inspired SciFi (Hera, who was a BESM character-) to cyberpunk-near-future-with-magic (the Shadowrun characters-) to both classic (Solomon, who started out an 1st ed AD&D Wizard) and odd-ball (Sjhan, a Talislanta Ariane Seeker-) fantasy and comic book superheroes (My City of Heroes MMO avatars-). They're a pretty wild bunch taken together. XD

< I hate allergy season. >_< *shakes tiny fist at cottonwood trees*

V Your crew are caught unexpectedly in the sinister Land of Many Pollens... What kind of plan do they come up with to save the world from the menace of the fey Prince of Seasonal Misery and his evil minions, the Deadly Sinuses? XD

 

^ Surprise! We're already trapped in the Land of Many Pollens! XDD I think Christian would mostly try to convince the Prince of Seasonal Misery that there are far more worthy areas to conquer and cover with a fine yellow dust. Failing that, I think he'd probably just drown his misery in antihistamines and sing show tunes (probably very badly due to having taken too many allergy meds and having clogged sinuses) until the whole despicable lot decide to pack up and move far from human habitation and questionable music choices.

Besides taking medicine, Aelic would just refuse to leave the house. Period. No going outside, no opening windows, everyone who comes in the house needs to take a shower immediately upon entering. He's so paranoid. Someone help him.

Ilya loves being outside and playing soccer, so he'd just stay outside and Suffer. When he finally comes inside, he'd probably lie in a super steamy bath and regret his life choices for a while.

v Is your doll/character more of an indoor or an outdoor person? What is their favorite thing to do in their chosen location?

 

^ my boys are night owls, during the day Bash (RG Raven) actually prefers basements and underground locations, cool dank areas or otherwise dimly lit interior spaces, but at night he loves to be outside. And if he must be outdoors in the day for recreational activities, he prefers shady forests with thick trees (he's also a sucker for waterfalls but will never admit something so... basic.) The other.. during the day, if he's awake, he likes to hang out in greenhouses, gardens, or climb trees to nap until nighttime.

< I leave for two seconds and my cat has stolen half of my food, and is hoarding it. On the ottoman.

v Who's the troublemaker, and what kind of shenanigans do they get into?

 

^ Shiromaru is a natural-born troublemaker, being a demon whose occupation is to tempt children into disobedience. Shiromaru styles himself as "the Incarnation of Evil and the Manifestation of Darkness" although his idea of 'evil' is stuff like stealing cookies, playing with sharp objects, swearing loudly in public or refusing to follow rules. He also likes to drink, which leads to some hilarious misadventures. It doesn't help that he's 300 years old but looks like a small child.
haha...I actually have quite a few among my cast of characters who might be classified as troublemakers, but Shiromaru is the only one who'd freely admit to it.

V Who's the one among your dolls/characters who always does their best to follow the rules and would be horrified at the idea of causing trouble on purpose?

 

^ Well, I don't have him shelled yet, but Ilya's brother Nikos is a bit of a stickler for rules. He'll break rules if he absolutely has too (i.e. if Ilya and their little brother Sylvan bug him enough), but he almost always gets them caught later by freaking out and saying what they did. For the ones I have shelled, Toshi likes to follow rules, but will absolutely break them if he has to (or wants to prank someone). He's really good at talking himself out of any consequences, so it works for him when he does get into any trouble.

v Would your doll/character ever want to go into space? Why or why not?

 

^ Ed, Jace, Razzy, and Nico actually have been, in their backstory. Al would love to go to space, and is a bit jealous that his brother has been there, especially because their world doesn't have the ability to leave the planet yet. Most of the rest in their group don't really have any interest.

v Have any of your characters had experiences that make their friends or family jealous?

 

^ I'm gonna go out on a limb and just say no for all my dolls. I tend to torture the hell out of my own OCs, so there would literally be no reason to be jealous of any of them. Unsurprisingly, I enjoy tortured characters the most, so the doll's I've made into other people's characters are also not to be envied.

> I want to work on my two Moon Knights and the new unnamed Raven so freaking bad and I have no time at all to do anything. Next weekend, hopefully.

V Do any of your dolls characters have health issues of any kind? Is it something you can portray in their doll form, or just part of their character's story?

 

^ Yes. Reid has a spinal cord injury and uses a wheelchair, and his doll form also has a wheelchair that I customized for him. Tyler and Kiva are both blind, and their resin avatars have white canes that I made. Tyler also has IBD and a host of other less serious health issues besides that. Although I can't portray that in his avatar, it's certainly prevalent in his story. Michael has glaucoma, also impossible to portray in his resin avatar, but which gets a mention in the story. Noé is living with anxiety and depression, but again there's no real way to show that in resin form. Jex is deaf and he also has numerous scars from ritual practices in his culture. His resin avatar (a doll I recently gave to my best friend) has the scars on it as well.

V You're can impulse buy any doll you want, right this minute. Which one is it? (money is no object)

 

^ Custom color Granado Female Nuevo body. So pricey, but I have yet to find anything else I like. And my girl would finally have a body.

v You can get any grail you want right now, but the catch is that you have to trade away one of your current dolls. Would you do it, and if so, which one?

 

^ I would do this in a heartbeat. I have exactly one grail, a Volks Tohya V1. I would *happily* trade away several of my dolls to get him, including my Unoa boy, my Iple Tedros, my Doll in Mind Danbi, my Soulkid Shaun, or my Souldoll Jinwoo. But seriously, Tohya and Isao Nanjou started this whole mess, and I've got my Isao. :3

v Do you have a company that you seem to keep going back to whenever you are looking at dolls? Do you actually have any dolls from that company?

 

^ I've got a small handful I do like to go back to regularly, to see what new things they have or are planning. FairyLand, DollPamm, AileenDoll, Luts, and WithDoll tend to be my major "ooh what do they have now?" companies. I do have dolls from all but Luts (not counting my old CP Delfs or the special/event heads I've picked up), and I'd like to get a full Luts at some point.

< The week's almost over, fingers crossed things work well tomorrow and my half-day doesn't get sabotaged...

v What makes a company a "favorite" for you?

 

^ Well, I guess just having a lot of sculpts that I like or want. Great customer service is important too; I know it's not an actual company, but I was indifferent about Alice's Collections until I had a fantastic transaction with them and now recommend them whenever I can!

v Your doll/character can only eat one food for the next week. What do they choose and why?

 

^ Pizza because pizza can be all the foods.

> All I want out of this weekend is to sleep, work on dolls, hang out with my friends who also like dolls, and watch Lego Batman like, 10 times. I think I can make that work.

V What is your next doll-related goal?

 

^ Get faceup materials, and practice more faceups. Though the super unexpected limited I just got turned those plans around. Maybe I'll just get eyes?

> I wish I had more people to share my excitement with.

v What was your most recent unexpected purchase?

 

^I bought a small jar filled with peridot that looked kinda like it would be in scale today at a museum. I had no plans for it but it's PERFECT.

v Your doll goes to a museum. There is a taxidermy exhibit, planetarium, butterfly green house, and various historical exhibits. Which do they go to first?

 

^ Tyler and Sini and their kids go to the planetarium, because Sini is interested in how accurate the Earth people's information is. Aubrey would go to the historical exhibits. Reid would go to the butterfly greenhouse (for which his friends would make fun of him). Noé would also go to the butterfly greenhouse.

V What is your doll/character passionate about?

 

^ Christian is passionate about history and trying to get to as accurate a version of events that he can, which involves tons of research. His other passions are music, particularly playing his guitar and singing, and also his massive book-collection.

< And now I'm firmly in the realm of poor decisions, given that I am considering starting new knitting project with tiny yarn on tiny needles and I've probably had too much wine for that to be a good idea.

v Your doll/character has a bit of extra pocket money to play with! Where would they be spending it?

 

^ Bash keeps it. He hoards his money until something worthwhile comes along for him to spend it on, be it his armory (which he doesn't use enough in the first place), or something his girl has her sights set on (i.e. her armory, likewise), or travel if neither is in the mood for materialism. Faelan on the other hand, spends most of his money on food or plants, both, or opportunities to eat food around plants.
