v What's your doll's favorite kind of weather?

 

^ Ellipso, my SOOM little gem Tuff, is a somewhat timid little fellow and prefers soft, mild, clement weather. Warm sunlight, a gentle breeze, neither too hot nor too cold. A clear day in early spring is ideal, so he can romp and explore without fear. Ambros, meanwhile, is inspired by winter weather -- the passion and drama of a rainstorm, or the grace and elegance of a snowy morning.

< Thank goodness for this forum!! It's the only thing keeping me sane while I wait for my doll to arrive. It's only been 20 days or so since I ordered him! Patience, patience ...

v What are your doll's favorite flowers or plants, and why?

 

^ My crew are more attuned with fauna than flora, but I see Adhara being fond of orchids and the fiery-colored lilies. Oh, and the fall foliage of maple, by extension. She has a flair for things exotic, perhaps because she herself isn't exactly human. Guórén, well, he probably prefers the likes of willow trees and evergreens such as pine. His tastes are more mellow and subdued than Adhara's, and I definitely see him admiring how some plants keep their refreshing shade of green over the seasons.

< I have so many pending dolly-related projects, 24 hours a day is not enough!

v Does your doll/s have furniture, and would you ever consider getting/making one (or several)?

 

^ While it's not exactly furniture, I'm actually currently in the process making a ballet barre for Ambroz, considering he's a premier danseur. I prefer to craft items myself rather than buying them, but I do see doll-sized whicker chairs in my local thrift store from time to time, and will probably pick one up next time. My room is quite small, so I don't have a lot of space to display doll props and furniture, but I'd certainly like some for photo shoots!

< Sorry to kind of double post, but @AntarelNefertili That answer was so pretty! I love how strong and well defined your characters' aesthetic sensibilities are.

v If your doll/character hailed from a different time period/era than their current one, which would it be, and what do you think their occupation would be?

 

^ I am ridiculously proud of this coat:

It's a perfect duplicate (minus the pockets) of the one I wear when I'm cosplaying--the same pattern, the same silkscreening to do the flamel cross on the back, and even the same fabric, since it's made from scraps left over from the big one.

< That was certainly an... experience. I am kind of looking forward to the online backlash starting up soon...

v What would your doll stand in line for?

 

^ clover would and has stood in line for long periods of time for the newest release of her favorite video games.

<i sometimes wish i had the skill clover has for video games...although i like them i am not very good.

v what genre of video games does your doll character like?

 

^ Ian prefers things like simple indie horror games, puzzle games, point and click adventure games, stuff like that.

< I have a puppy!!! Puppy!

v What would your doll's first reaction be to whoever they live with getting a pet without consulting them?

 

^ Ellipso would probably be delighted, providing the pet wasn't menacing or territorial in some way. He's a bit skittish, but so long as it was friendly, I think he'd be quite happy to have, say, a puppy to romp around with. Ambroz, meanwhile, would be inwardly horrified and outwardly stand-offish. Pets are disorderly, and he's stubbornly resistant to change. He'd attempt to ignore the pet at first, and likely be a bit curt and frigid with the owner for a while ... but he'd come around to it eventually.

< Uuugh, redoing my room is taking forever!

v What's the best item (clothing, accessories, etc) you've found for your doll by chance? I mean, things you've stumbled across in craft stores or thrift stores, rather than specifically searching for/ordering them online.

 

^ A park bench! I had a couple of little wooden garden benches before, but the classic metal-and-wood style park bench I found earlier this year beats them out as a favorite find by a long shot, since I can use it for both display and for photoshoots (the others are really only good for display).

< I wonder what's in walking distance for lunch tomorrow...?

v What's your favorite furniture/prop item and why?

 

^ Right now it's Ilya's chair/throne, because I made it myself and I think it turned out really well and suits him~ Also it's pretty much the only furniture or prop I have. Quality over quantity, right?

< Okay... I already broke my "no more resin this year" promise once, I'm definitely not gonna do it again.

v If your doll/character was to starg a collection, what would they collect and why? How would they add to their collection? (Buying stuff, finding things, trading, etc.)

 

^ Anthea would start with one or two angora rabbits and the equipment needed to care for them. From there, all the things a person needs to spin her own yarn, knitting supplies, maybe crochet materials... This could snowball hard.

< My back is starting to hurt, but I still don't want to sit with both feet on the floor the way most people do.

v Does your doll have an in-character collection you haven't gotten? What is it?

 

^ Books. Classic books in particular. I need to get around to making them, but that involves finding the text and formatting it and cutting the paper and making the cover, then gluing everything, so yeah. I've been a bit lazy.

v If your doll had to dress up for Halloween, what would they be?

 

^ The vampires don't have to do much, neither do the elves. The half-demons might make the transition to their non-human selves but are unsure of their baser instincts. The semi-normal guys would grab a beer and pretend they are in a beer commercial. Marcus would ramp up Blue Poppy's clothes and dazzle everyone. Kise and Sebastian would stay home regardless.

v pass the question down since it's fun. If your doll had to dress up for Halloween, what would they be?

 

^ Ilya would want to be a unicorn. But like...he'd want to be in one of those costumes where it's supposed to be two people, but he'd try to be the front and the back, and it'd be a total mess. (Nikos would probably kick that idea out the plane and use Ilya as a model for his special effects makeup.) Aelic would want to be a zombie or something (which is a shame 'cause I'm making him a cute sheepie costume this year). Toshi would play a joke on Eiichi and dress up as him (with fake extra arms and everything). I'm not sure about the others... Nikolai dresses up enough as it is, and Lacey is always really busy. She'd probably like doing cute yet dorky outfits, like a big puffy Jack-o-lantern or something.

< I wanna make Tadpole's outfit... Too bad he won't be here for a couple months.

v To continue the Halloween theme: How would your doll/character react when someone comes trick-or-treating? Do they have the best candy on the block or do they have a big "GO AWAY" sign on the door (or something else!)?

 

^ Mara definitely has the best candy on the block. Chris and Katie dress up themselves and answer the door in full costume (Katie's idea). Carlos makes sure he's not home on Halloween - not so much because he minds the idea of it, but because the constant getting up to answer the door is hell on his leg and he hates being reminded of that every two minutes.

< The snekling is home! Can't get a decent pic of him ... but that little guy is so much fun. Bedroom remodeling / craft stuff shelves re-organizing shall be finished today, and then there will be dolly time. I need to string up the new Miro boy.

v What pets do / would your dolls' characters have?

 

^ John has a cat. Technically Joker and Harley should have hyena's and Batman has a dog....but I only own John's cat. He's the only one with an actual pet.

^ If I can get the money to get the shiny gold shorts for him, Ian is going to dress up as Rocky from the Rocky Horror Picture Show for Halloween, mostly because I'll be dressing as Columbia and the wig he came with would be a good wig for that costume!

< Now I have songs from Rocky Horror in my head. Well, not too bad!

v What's your doll's favorite Halloween-related thing, whether it's a movie or a type of costume or an activity or what!

 

^ Halloween doesn't exist for half of my doll crew! Vincent holds no particular feelings about Halloween, but Blanche would take advantage of all the candy on sale the day after Halloween.

< I'm wanting to go to my first dollmeet this week but I can't help but imagine everyone chatting and having fun while I'm sitting on the couch alone because I can't carry a conversation. Send help.

v Oh no! Your doll just took a nose-dive on to the floor! Which doll did you just imagine doing that and why? (Example: Are they just a pain in real life or are their characters a little more... dangerous?)

 

^ I imagined Gobbie because A) I just got her a few hours ago so she is on my mind and B) she is so kicky I have yet to get her to stand C) being a tiny, I think she could take falling that far onto carpet much better.

^ Aubrey is the most finicky in terms of style; he always needs to be well turned out and every hair needs to be in place Tyler is the most finicky in terms of posing. He's from Iplehouse and let's just say I've seen more flexible rocks lol

^I love them both equally, but Okita has been getting less attention just because he's not a 'project' currently.

v if you could take pictures of your doll(s) at your dream location, where would that be?

 

^ I would absolutely love to be able to use the puppet theatre stage for photos. It opens into my very classroom (it's a sliding wall that can be opened up and the stage is behind, complete with curtains and everything) but I don't have access to the room behind it (from which it unlocks) and the dragon in charge of it is unlikely to ever grant it to me, so it's pipe dreams. But it would be perfect for both my main story (if that ever happens) and the band stuff.

< I just f***ed up adding lace to a pair of my jeans twice in a row. *bangs head on desk* I can not be trusted with Life today. Someone shoot me plz.

v How many failed attempts does it take to make your doll lose patience with a project?

 

^ Hmm... I'm not sure! I usually don't have too many failures because 1) I don't experiment much and 2) I plan like crazy. I'd probably only restart something once or twice if it was going terribly wrong, unless I really beeded the piece done for a specific outfit or something.

< Speaking of projects... I really need to get started on Aelic's Halloween costume. I need a fabric store trip tomorrow!

v What kind of performing art (theater/musical theater, instrumental music, singing, etc.) would your doll/character like to do?

 

^ Ambroz is a ballet dancer -- a premier danseur, at that! For him, ballet is an all-consuming passion, though he appreciates classical theatre as well. Ellipso is learning, but he's more gifted instrumentally. Plays the lyre and the pan flute.

< I wish Ellipso's head would come back from the modification artist already! I'm getting nervous!

v Does your doll/character like to read? If so, what's their favorite genre? And out of curiosity, what's YOUR favorite genre?

 

^ My Angel reads, she prefers drama, some clasical literature and from time to time, when noone watches, she pulls out some thrillers. I am mostly into fantasy, though there are lots of other genres I like from time to time.

< I'm beeing tired, I should sleep now.

v If you could go back in time and tell your bjd starting self one sentence, what would it be?

 

^ Don't try and make everything yourself. I've probably spent more on supplies I won't use than I would have on clothes. Knowing myself, I probably wouldn't listen though.

v What was one doll project where you bit off more than you could chew, and what did you do about it?

 

^ Trying to make a doll scale wheelchair. I checked out tutorials, gathered materials, got stuck on trying to decide about some details and never got any further than that ... so basically I did nothing at all about it. Maybe one day I'll get back to it.

< Getting tired of sewing for humans so I'm taking a break by sewing doll stuff. And not even the stuff I should be finishing. Wat.

v How do you keep yourself motivated to finish doll projects?

 

^ They all have very set hair and eyes. There's a couple where I'm still working out what that combination is, but once I find it, they won't change up.

< I feel like I need a few days off just to catch up...

v What's the next doll project you have planned?

 

^ my next project will most propably be my doll chateau larry. It's a little hard finding stuff his size and I might need to commission someone for his clothes, so it's possible I'll redo one of my other dolls before I have everything for him together.

v Do you prefer doll clothes from company, custom made or even make them yourselves?

 

^ I generally prefer to buy my clothes, just because I'm not great at sewing yet and most things I do sew are mostly hand done and take a while. I like to get things in stock just so they get to me faster, but sometimes I need to order things custom because I have a really specific vision for my characters. (Of course, some things, like Ilya's outfits, are so specific that I really have to make them myself. And that's okay!)

< It's time to start getting Tadpole's stuff! Hopefully the feathers I'm gonna get will work for him.

v If you could have one outfit made exactly how you envisioned and perfectly sized for your doll, what would you get and why?

 

^ Ian's is fairly simple, on the surface, but has a lot of little details that would make it harder to pull off. A red flannel with a patch of the Jersey Devil on the back, a black tee shirt (which I already have, and thus wouldn't need), a silver bullet necklace, slightly torn up dark skinny jeans, and a pair of brown boots would be what I would need for him, my little edgy boy.

< Honestly, I still really need to get Ian just a regular red flannel for him to feel complete.

v Are your dolls "completed", or do they still need things to be finished? What would/did it take for them to be complete in your eyes?

V Passing this down cause it made me rethink getting more dolls for awhile. Are your dolls completed or do they still need things to feel complete. What would some of those things be?

 

^ Well, it really depends for me. Like...I could consider Aelic complete, but there are still things I want to do for him. So right now, my list of needs is:
- Aelic: New faceup, new eyes, clothes
- Lacey: Correct eyes, clothes, shoes
- Ilya: Correct hair, more clothes
- Nikolai: Correct eyes, more clothes, restringing/sueding
- Toshi: A body, more clothes, shoes

The list isn't so bad right now... Or it won't be, until I get Tadpole and Ocias.

v What would your doll/character's dream house look like?

 

^ John lives in an abandoned building so pretty much anything would be a step up, and would be his "dream house"...

V What skills do you have that are useful in the bjb hobby? What do you wish you could do better?

 

^ Photography, although I don't know how "useful" it is. I can knit and I'm fairly crafty, so that's helpful when making accessories and props and jewelry. One thing I wish I could do is faceups.

< I ate a tiny bag of cheesies and now I want more. Also, why am I so tired?

V I'm stealing a previous question because I think it's a good one (and probably because I should be answering it for my own resin folks). Are your dolls completed or do they still need things to feel complete. What would some of those things be?

 

^ Okay, tecnically my dolls are never really 'complete'. I'm allways getting some new stuff or even redo the complete style. Still I guess four of my five dolls are considered complete. Though I found recently that I have a general lack of doll jewlery.

v Do you stick to one doll company or like some variaty in you collection?

 

^ I have a rule, no more than one doll from a company. So no, I don't stick to just one. Might break it at some point, but as it stands, only one doll will even have a head and body from the same company.

v Your doll is planning a trip. What kind is it most likely to be? (Business, vacation, going on the run, etc...)

 

^ A bit of both. I have a few distinct groups, so those who are in one group are separate from the others. And then, within one of those groups, there are individuals who, while living in the same world, don't know each other at all.

< I've got a con this weekend, too, but a much smaller one. I wasn't really planning on it, but I got asked to be on staff by a friend, so off I go!

v Do you prefer to keep all your dolls in one cohesive group, or have several different groupings?

 

^ I have several groups, really. They basically go with the different storylines and groups of characters I have for them. I try to keep my dolls consistent within each group, but I don't really care how they compare between groups. But I also don't mind too much if the styles aren't perfect within groups either, because it's really hard to get dolls that look completely consistent from different companies, and I don't usually like enough sculpts from one company to get all of a story group from one place.

< That sad moment when you get Godzilla v. SpaceGodzilla from the library and then realize it only has the English audio...

v If your dolls/characters were actual people, what language would they speak?

 

^ Most of them would speak English, as the majority of my characters are English-speaking Canadians. Noé, Élise, Gabriel, Annie & Coco would speak French, as it's their first language, but Noé and Élise and the kids are bilingual and Gabriel can speak enough English to make himself understood. Aubrey speaks three languages (English, French and Italian), although his first language is English. The Erisans, of course, speak Erisani which is the language of their world. Sini and Kiro can both speak English, though. In fact, Sini can speak all four dialects of her planet's language, as well as Erisan Common Sign, a sign language that is the planet's official second language. Jex uses Erisan Common Sign almost exclusively. Remi and D both speak English as well as Patois (Jamaican Creole).

V What is your doll/character's favourite book genre?

 

^ Judging by their bookcase - crime fiction and fantasy. Those appear to be the most common genres in this household, regardless of size.

v (How) do you keep your dolls and pets separate?

 

^ I don't really have to worry about it too much, as Grace (my Boston terrier) is nervous of the dolls and generally stays away from them on her own. I do have to make sure she can't get at any wigs that aren't in use, though. She has a weakness for chewing up wigs, so I keep those in boxes on a shelf she can't reach.

< I want salt, LOTS of salt. Ham sandwich just isn't doing it for me.

V does your doll/character prefer salty snacks or sweet snacks?

 

^^ TOO SLOW
John eats all the things, one of his favorite snacks is pickles and sour cream...don't judge him. Alex is all about sweets.


^ I don't really. My dog could care less about anything doll, she only cares about plush. My cats don't bother them either - The only problems I really have are Gozer likes to knock Poison Ivy off the table when she's sitting on it (only her. No other doll has been knocked off at all, let alone more than once.) and Peter steals wigs. Mostly fur, both real and faux. Right off heads. Even guests' dolls. He also likes to "help" me string. And cat help is the anti-help.
Other than that they leave the dolls alone.

V Do your favorite dolls have anything in common?

 

^ My two faves are both big boys with blond hair and blue eyes, and both companies start with an 'I'. Tyler (Iplehouse nYID Oscar) and Aubrey (IMPL Idol Tony) as characters both like the colour blue, can play a musical instrument, enjoy chocolate way more than they should and have middle names that start with 'J'.

< @VampireAngel13 loool at first I was confused like, "There's no 'K' in John or Alex...?" and then I realized you meant the actual doll sculpts hahaha I blame my meds and a lack of caffeine

V Since this was a really fun question, I'll pass it on. Do your favourite dolls have anything in common?

 

^ one is deep violet, 62cm and has white hair and dark indigo eyes, the other has pink hair (it’s also been red and white) is 54 cm, in NS, with gold and violet eyes. So they’ve both had white hair at one point. They’re both female. And they live together for 2.5 years, but that’s a really toxic abusive relationship, where one was kidnapped and stored in a closet. They’re also not from companies that have anything in common (Angell studio for Balik and Fairyland for Tacet). I suppose they were both painted by the amazing adrenaline aesthetics.

V what doll project are you procrastinating right now?

 

^ Pants for Elliot. Poor thing is in basted, unhemmed pants with the front closed up with masking tape.

v What's the hardest thing your doll has ever done?

 

^ The one I'm currently working on in his back story moved back to the United States after living in Tokyo for several years in search of a safer life. Of course he still has problems, but at least no one is trying to kill him.

< Hoping for good weather for the end of the week I can do face-ups on some of my many blank dolls.

V Do you do your own face-ups?

 

^ yes, though I am not very good at it. On the plus side, I don't need to send my precious heads anywhere.

< Grey, rainy, miserable. I wish my Doll Chateau Amos and Bedrice were already here. Let's hope neither Angelesque nor Doll Chateau will play up. If they do, I'll take my custom elsewhere.

V A trip to the wilderness has been planned. Who's leading?

 

^ If it's in the "real world", probably Katie because she's the most outdoorsy of the humans. They'd probably go hiking in the woods, either aiming for a cabin somewhere or camping somewhere in the middle of nowhere. In the fantasy setting Tarion would lead, because that's what elven rangers do, and it would probably be either a week-long patrol, a check-up trip on another (currently uninhabited) elven "house" or a training trip for the newly arrived half-elves.

< My snek is acting crazy.

v Would your doll(s) want an exotic/unusual (= something else than cat, dog, bunny, fish etc) pet? If so, what? (Fantasy critters totally count!)

 

^ I keep toying with the idea of giving John a crow as a pet, but I don't know if that's too obvious.

V Which of your dolls/characters would you least want to meet in real life?

 

^ oh, that’s an easy answer. Grim. He’s a former pirate with issues with his mommy that he takes out on all women, and quite the sadist. He has a particular ability to create toxins, and can’t really die. Especially if he knew I was his author, I would die horribly. And not quickly either.

Or Auratus, who I have no intention to ever shell but I know what sculpt he’d be. He’s a businessman who sells crystallized souls. The things he does to his own children are pretty shocking, if he knew I wrote him, he wouldn’t kill me. He’d throw me into his sensory deprivation prison until I snapped and wrote his world how ever he wanted it. His poor children would never be the same again.

<why do I write them? This answer got dark...

V passing this along, which of your doll characters would you least want to meet?

 

^ Arthen. He's such an a-hole. Though to be fair to him, he was raised expecting that he'd be able to rise to great power among his people, maybe even become their leader... and then this upstart shows up and takes the role instead, leaving him down at third in the hierarchy. He's more than a little bitter about that.

v This is a fun question, passing it down again. Which of your doll characters would you least want to meet?

 

^ Probably Li. He's based on an anime character, and if you connect the man dressed in black wearing a mask to the man behind the mask, he has to kill you.

< I need to figure out how to make said doll a trench coat...

V Do any of your dolls have any distinctive pieces of clothing or props?

 

^ Gobby has a spear. I plan on putting more and more knicknacks on it, but for now, it just has a little bracelet.

v Since you got them, what is the furthest you've been from your dolls?
