I swear they're taking over the doll shelf.
All but Sion Yoon and the Elfdolls share bodies with someone, though. Trying to save both money and space.

< It's modding day! Not up to much, but this works. New neck donut for Katie, and trying to fix Sven's leg. We shall see.

v Modding - yay or nay? Have you done any mods? Bonus for pics!

 

^ I'm mostly a huge "nay" when it comes to modding. I'm a bit of a purist, I guess. I'll do the occasional slight additive mod like deepening eyewells so eyes will actually fit, sueding or wiring or adding removeable scars or piercings, but generally, the way I feel about modding is that if I don't like the doll as the artist sculpted it, then probably it's not the doll I should be getting. I don't think I'd ever send one of my dolls off to be modded by someone else, either.

< Ever have those days where mostly everything seems pointless?

V Which of your dolls is the most difficult to find clothing/accessories for? Why is that?

 

^ Two-Face. I'm 110% sure I'll never find a half-n-half suit and tie. It'll have to be made *dies*
After that all my dolls who are supposed to dress post-apocalyptic. Because clothes like that just don't exist in BJD land.

V Back to the floating head thing: If you have floating heads, how do you view them? As dolls? Do you play with them or count them in your line-up? or just parts that get stuck in a drawer until they get a body eventually? or other?

 

^ Depends on whether they have a body to share or not. If I can't play with them, they only half count. They're more like ongoing projects, waiting for me to figure out the body situation. As soon as they can share a body they get as much attention as they would if they were full dolls - I have too many to have all of them out all the time anyway, so it doesn't make a difference whether they're on a shared body or one of their own.

v Passing on the question as I'm sure more of you guys have floaters - If you have floating heads, how do you view them? As dolls? Do you play with them or count them in your line-up? or just parts that get stuck in a drawer until they get a body eventually? or other?

 

^ all my floaters (mercy, Ray, Red, and a spare head for Lucifer) all have characters already, so I make them wigs and treat them as much like dolls as I can while they're bodiless.

< once I get home I need to send like, all my dolls off for faceups. That's the summer project, I guess.

V what's your favourite thing about this hobby?

 

^ Since the floating heads I've got currently share bodies and are only really semi-floating, I consider them as dolls whenever it's their turn to be on the body. When they're not on the body, they're still representations of characters, but I don't really play with them or anything as just heads. I store them in their own boxes when they aren't on the body.

^^ My favourite thing about this hobby is... I literally have no idea any more. Currently, my favourite part of the hobby is the process of exiting it, to be honest. Selling or giving away dolls is extremely liberating and de-stressing for me at the moment.

V What kind of pets do your dolls/characters have? If they haven't got pets, do they want one?

 

^ for my current doll, I haven't considered any pets. I haven't really considered a character at all my (hopefully) next doll should have cats

v if your doll had a fursonna, what would it be?

 

^ John = Unicorn. I want to get him a onesie so bad. So so bad.

V Do you have any dolls that you planned out to the last detail who suddenly switched everything on you upon arriving or gradually as they developed?

 

^ dude yes, my floating dika head was originally supose to be rontu but it got home and bam seil hit me in the face. So all my plans changed and i had to find a new doll for rontu's character.

< i take back all my complaint about work just stop cutting my hours, i have bills to pay XC.

v does your character ever have money issues? Or are they filthy rich? Too careful and responsible with their money? Or just don't care cuz they know nothing about the power of money?

 

^ Money issues are the kind of thing I've had enough of to last a lifetime, so that's one topic I keep out of my dolls' stories. But none of them are filthy rich either. Being a college student, Katie has the least money (complete with all the issues every (former) student knows). The others have jobs, so they're doing okay. The Band guys might become filthy rich in time, but they're not quite there yet.

< It's getting way too dark way too early. Autumn is upon us!

v Because I'm hybriding all the dolls ... what's your favourite doll body, and what makes it your favourite?

 

^^ One of my favourite male bodies is the IMPL Idol male body (either FGB or SGB). I love it because of its size, its sculpting and most of all, its ability to pose in ways that look very natural. IMPL has gorgeous resin and they sand it so well that there's not a seam line in sight. Other bodies I like are the MYou 27cm male body and the 5Star 30cm bodies, for many of the same reasons I like the IMPL one; resin quality and poseability being at the top of the list.

V Which is your least favourite doll body and why?

 

^ oh Lordy, that's hard. Even though I'm really picky about bodies, I can't say I've ever owned one I outright hated. I'm not fond of really immature bodies, like 1/3 sized children. All my dolls are 17+, so I have no use for them in my collection, but I don't dislike seeing them, so... least favourite anything is hard for me to answer, cause, with the exception of my least favourite person, I don't want to put effort into disliking things.

< if I have to write one more sentence about cheerful robots, I swear...

V what would be your doll's least favourite university course?

 

^ Well, using the ones at my alma mater...
Elliot: Speech and Rhetoric. Having to give public talks? No thanks.
Ollie: Differential Calculus. Hard and boring, for her at least.
Ji-Han- Wildlife Conservation and Management. Too dirty and gross for him.
Gobbie: Philosophy in general. She's more of a doer.

v Anything dollie related that you are really excited about?

 

^im ordering a big DC/DZ order in November, to get a body for Azrael that I've wanted for a year, a head for Euphony I just picked out, and a full doll I've wanted for three? Years now, for famine. It's ludicrous money for me to be emptying from my savings, but... I finally know where famine is from and what colour resin I need her in.

<anyone know if new DC tan is as orange as old DC tan?

V let's pass this down. Anything you're excited for that's doll-related?

 

^ I'm really excited to receive my first doll head! I've been wanting her for almost 4 years!

v What do you like most about your doll/dolls?

 

^ This really depends on which doll we're talking about, as I like something different about each of them. What I like most about Tyler (Iplehouse nYID Oscar) and Michael (Iplehouse nYID Justin) is their sculpting and overall look. I could literally stare at them for ages because they're so perfect and beautiful to me. With Aubrey (IMPL Tony) my favourite thing is his size and his engineering/poseability. My favourite thing about Liam (Lumedoll Blaze) are his size and how easy it is to find cloths for him,and his realistic face. My favourite thing about Reid (Souldoll Vito Lester) is the face sculpting. Actually, face sculpt is my favourite thing about a lot of my dolls, because many of their bodies/engineering/posing leave much to be desired in my opinion.

< I'm having a very difficult day mentally and emotionally today, and it's really hard to be at work and deal with people and sounds and...everything. Plus, my brother frakked up my weekend plans by announcing a surprise visit (via text message) last night, so basically I just can't even. On a positive note, though, my package from Iplehouse has been processed in my city and should be out for delivery today with any luck.

V Do your dolls have multiple wigs/eyes or just one wig & pair of eyes for each doll?

 

^ Gah, crossed in mid-air For the most part they have one wig per persona (those of them who pull double duty have two or more). Most of them are in self-made wigs by now, meaning they can be styled any way I want, so there's no real need for multiples. Eyes usually stay the same.

^^ The fact that everything's customizable. Even if, say, a head doesn't work for the OC I had in mind, I can always do something else with it. I can mod them, re-paint them, throw eyes and wigs and styles at them until something clicks. I can make all the things for them, stuff I've always wanted to make, or stuff I've always liked, that I have no use for in human scale.

< HOLIDAYS. Finally. So freakin tired. *keels over*

v We've heard about dolls kicking plans out the window - how about the opposite? Which of your dolls was the easiest to "get right"?

 

^ Tacet was the easiest for me to get right. I just started dressing her like her character and she came to life. Her faceup was perfect the minute it was done, the only snag we had was with wigs, and that was totally on me for experimenting with her wigs. But now she has a perfect wig, perfect eyes, and the best wardrobe out of all my dolls, and she just looks exactly the way I want her to.

<so, I'm in love with enchanted doll and doll Bakery. RIP wallet.

V what are your favourite eyes in this hobby?

 

^ My favourite eyes are silicone (or "soft glass"). I like some resin eyes, if they're not too shiny or fake looking. My least favourite eye material is glass (with a few exceptions)

< I need food right this second, but lunch is an hour away (and where is the person who's supposed to be here for an appointment right now?)

V If you could have any sculpt in a different size than its "default" size, which would it be?

 

^ I have two. I want my Dollmore Kara Klum to be taller so he can be in scale with my 70cm dolls now.
And I want that IOS Dr. Strange only like, 68cm and not 80.

V What is your dream doll (not necessarily your grail) and do you have it?

 

^ A color matched Female Nuevo body for Ollie. And I don't have it yet because it is so expensive and on my salary, buying it now doesn't feel right.

v What prop/clothing/etc do you have that was hardest to find?

 

^ Aenon's wig. It was actually impossible to find, so I had to create it myself. It is hand-dyed

vHow long have you waited for your most recent doll?

 

^ Not much, really. I waited like 3 months more or less between ordering and receiving the package. It was a Dearmine Classic Lupin the Bat.

< I just moved with my fiancé to live with him for a year and I could only bring one doll due to space issues... I miss a lot the rest of my resin family. T_T

v What would be the favourite book of each one of your dolls?

 

^ As a bookseller I feel a biiiiiiiiig urge to answer this! I often tried to think about something like this before... So...
Reito's favourite book (or book series) would probably be the latest book of Lian Hearn, The Tale of Shikanoko #1 - The Emperor of the Eight Islands (or basically he'd just read anything by Lian Hearn that's in some way or another related to Japan, he's a proud Japanese boy character XD)
Synti probably would say that her favourite book is 'Guess how much I love you' (a children's book about a big and a small hare and the small one is trying to explain how much he loves the big one by giving examples like 'as much as he can stretch his arms' while the bigger one can stretch his much further of course!) She'd probably love it because of her childish appearance and character as well as how cute it's drawn.
Jia's favourite book would be something like the Bourbon Kings... It basically combines a lot of his character trades in one book. Especially how much he dislikes his father just like the characters in the book... Also it's very... 'sexy'.
And Aoi would probably just read almost anything that's horror. Stephen King probably would be his favourite. He'd read stuff like 'It' or 'The Shining' in one go without having trouble to sleep afterwards. ^-^

< I definitely did not read all of these books myself... Nonono XD (I really didn't... Never read 'The Shining' or 'It' so far and had no time reading the new book of Lian Hearn yet either... ;-;")

v Now that we talked about books... How about your dolls favourite TV show or movie?

 

^ Not much TV being watched here ... but movies-wise Sven and Lauren love the LotR trilogy (not the Hobbit too much, what with the green-screen syndrome those have going on), Katie and Timmy enjoy all things action, and Jo is into romance / chick flicks.

v Of your dolls, who is the most outgoing and who's the biggest introvert?

 

^ honestly, frost wins most outgoing by a mile. The title of most introverted goes to either the horseman Famine or to Balik.

V would your doll ever cheat on anything? A partner? A test?

 

^ Shiromaru would cheat on a test, because he'd think that would make him seem more "evil"

< Ham, cheese & jalapeno sandwich for lunch. Mmmm...

V what's your doll/character's favourite sandwich?

 

^ John pretty much likes all the sandwiches, but hot dogs are his favorite. With relish, mustard and sauerkraut. (and sometimes sour cream. don't ask)

V What is your favorite accessory or clothing item of your dolls? Bonus for pictures.

 

^ Probably the Luts "Schahriar" outfit pair I have for my two big boys. I completely fell in love with the outfits, and the idea of dressing both of them in the similar sets, but at the time I could actually get them, only the white one was in stock, and it had been that way for a long time. I figured I'd just have to get something else for the boy I wanted the black one for, and went for it anyway. Months and months later, the white one suddenly restocked, so they have their matched set now! Sadly, I only have one picture of the two of them wearing them, since I haven't had a chance to do a photoshoot since getting them (life has been crazy).


< I need about one extra day per week right now. At least.

v What's the most interesting story of how you got a doll, accessory or outfit?

 

^ Most of Elliot's clothes were given to me during the Gift a Newbie event.

^ I have somewhat of an emoji addiction. My favourite DoA ones are these:

< Ever have one of those days when you don't feel quite right but you're not really ill enough to take a sick day? Meh... BUT ... I've made up my mind that I'm not missing FID Lawrence this time around, so I have that to think about

V What's the best photo you've ever taken of your favourite doll, and what makes it the best?

 

^ SO HARD I CAN'T but I do like this one. I never really got photography, so I'm not sure it's the best exactly, but it's good enough, and it's very him.

^The twins are my favorite, Ash was my first doll and still favorite and since Evz is his identical twin I can't have one without the other. I like this photo because it is so them, cosplay and flipping me off, subtly.

v Since Timmy's new body should be getting here today or tomorrow - are you waiting for anything? An arrival, time to make stuff, an event, a release?

 

^ The only thing I'm currently waiting for is a clothing order from Alice's Collections, which is mostly shirts for Tyler and Michael. Nearly one month into the wait and no shipping notice yet I'm also kinda waiting to see if IMPL is going to do an event because I want to order an Idol Tank (BUT...I'm also waiting to see if I'm going to have any money to play with over the next couple of months because Iplehouse just opened another FID order period *dies*)

V What's currently at the top of your wish list?

 

^ Ringdoll's Judge in Hell the only thing on my wish list atm. Though I could probably upgrade several boy's bodies with the $ that he will cost. Decision time.

v Did you ever have that feeling that you should upgrade bodies for heads that are perfect but the bodies are just so-so?

 

^ YES. Oh God yes. Ask poor Sven ... I was seriously contemplating dyeing the new Miro body I have coming because it's so much better than the old one he's on now, instead of being happy he finally has a body. On the other hand I'm still working on getting everyone from the main story shelled (as in, find heads that work). Body upgrades may happen later, once everyone is be-headed.

< @SapphireStargazer right? It's a mini-T from a print shop, I had to get it for the boys.
@SteamWitch most anything by that guy is amazing. If you like his stuff, check out Eric Whitacre and David Chiles ... they're in the same genre, so to speak.

v What's the last sculpt that had you go "WOW"? (And did you get them?)

 

^ That would be DHS Aldou. And they are on their way home!

v What is your favorite prop or piece of clothing?

 

^ so far of the pieces i own i think my fav piece is shaylee's coat. It's a bunny coat, with floppy ears and a wierd tail and is in a mint-ish color.

v what do your doll characters do to help themselves not be afraid?

 

^ Right now they're huddled up together as the storm is raging outside. We have the second highest possible warning going on and boy does it feel like it ... only Kori insists he's not afraid of, and I quote, "a bit of wind" - dwarves are neither tall nor light enough to be bothered by it, I guess.

< Slept for 12 hours ^^° yay for holidays! Now a bit of dolly crafting, maybe work on the mask I need to make for someone, and choir practise tonight. Life is good.

v What's your doll's perfect holiday? Do they love to travel, or just stay home with a good book? (Bonus for pics.)

 

^ Tyler's perfect holiday would be one that did not include his wife and kids, honestly. He loves them very much, but they overwhelm him and he often feels like he can never get away. His idea of a vacation would be to spend time working on a farm, particularly with horses. He grew up on a hobby farm and has been around horses most of his life. Since he loves animals and loves to be outside, that would be perfect for him.

< Upon reflection, I really am done. I looked at the cost of the doll I was just on the verge of buying and went, "Nope."

V Does your doll/character collect anything?

 

^ this is kind of a weird, involved story, but John has a collection of yellow octopuses and unicorns. He did not buy any of them for himself...

V Inktober is going on and Nanowrimo is on the way. Do you do any other activities with your dolls besides doll? Like write their characters or draw using them (or character) as subjects? Or any other creative use?

 

^ Oh my god, nanowrimo! That's going to be interesting to try to pull off as a uni student. I write about my dolls. They're all pre-existing characters in the storylines I have them in. Well, admittedly I did make a couple new reapers so I could buy dolls but shhhhh..

V have you ever taken a doll with you on a trip?

 

^ Yep. Lauren and Chrissie came to Italy with me a couple years ago, and I once took Chris and Katie with me on a multiple-stop trip (including parents' place for the holidays and a symposium afterwards) because I was away from home for two weeks and didn't want to be without dolls that long.

< YAY folk dance workshop up north this Saturday! Can't remember the last time I had the time to be that spontaneous, and I forgot how much fun it is.

v What's the furthest away from home your doll has ever been? (Not counting the journey from factory to you.)

 

^ Tiny Jace and Akane both traveled with me to far western North Dakota (Badlands/TRNP area) from where I live in east central Minnesota. That's as far as they've gone, about an 8 hour plus drive.

< Anyone want to be NaNoWriMo buddies? I'm the same name there as here. And should get my profile set for this year...

v Where would you like to take your dolls, if time and money were not an issue?

 

^ New York.

> @vicemage I do! I will probably fail halfway through, as is how I roll, but I plan on at least trying....I'm also the same name there as here. (unless we already are? [I just looked - nope] I have several DOA people as friends there too and I didn't do it last year so I can't remember who *FAIL*)

V Sort of like the last Q: Do you have a dream set for photos that you would love to have for your dolls?

 

^ Yeah! I'd love to take Ilya somewhere in the Arctic for some spectacular glacial photos, though I doubt that'd ever happen. A traditionaly styled photoshoot in Japan for Toshi would be really cool too.

< Ug... Why are short, golden blonde 6-7 wigs so hard to find??? Tadpole needs hair.

v What is your doll/character's favorite type of exercise? (If they don't exercise, why?)

 

^ Ian prefers walking or hiking outdoors over any sort of exercise. He would much rather be out in nature than in some gym or something.

< I'm so tired and stressed out lately... Ugh.

v How does your doll/character react to stress?

 

^ Tacet constantly tries to prove herself no matter how much stress you put her under. She seriously once was trying to use magic that felt like being lit on fire after any number of things I really shouldn't mention on here that had taken their toll on her. When she really breaks down though, she has OCD-like symptoms, where she just feels filthy and will scrub off a layer of skin trying to feel clean. Poor girl.

V what's your biggest challenge in the hobby?

 

^ Getting things. Oh, how I wish I could find a better paying job already.

v Has your doll ever done a self-imposed challenge?

 

^ Well, Lady Red (who pretty much dedicated her afterlife to getting with as many people as she could, and thereby only being two-dimensional) Once went through, I believe a six month dry spell, cold turkey to prove that she could be more than she'd pigeon-holed herself into being, because some girl upset her that badly. It worked out great. She fought demons in the apocalypse, wore pants for the first time in her afterlife and wound up dating the girl, even though she swore she didn't do any kind of romance.

^ John would never admit this to anyone but his self-imposed challenge is to be better than everyone...at pretty much everything. Which is why he never sleeps.

V Do your dolls have any likes/dislikes or other characteristics that also belong to you?

 

^ Yes. Most of my OCs (all kinds - story, RPG, unspecified) share something with me - I find I can neither write nor play a character I have absolutely zilch in common with. It might be a tiny little thing, or something bigger, but there's always something.
e.g. Chris and I both like crime fiction / thriller / suspense stuff. Katie and I love nature. Maria and I play the same instrument. Lauren, Sven and I are Tolkien geeks. The list goes on and on.

< Hah! Finally, my beloved but impractical old desk will be re-homed and free up space for more storage areas. Maybe another doll closet, they really don't all fit any more ... either way, YAY re-organizing!

v What does your doll enjoy that others would consider tedious?

 

^ I suppose telling fake fortunes to people because you know their real one would seem pretty tedious to some people.

< I joined NaNo this year. I'm going to try to get one of my stories written, maybe this will help. I'm the same over there too.

v Would your doll/character like to eat exotic foods or plain old comfort food?

 

^ The character ones are pretty adventurous overall; Ed and Jace both travel a lot and love trying new things wherever they end up, Al spent years not being able to eat so he really loves new and unusual foods, and Razzy and Nico both had such an unsettled life before becoming part of the big extended family that they don't really have any "plain old comfort foods" anyway. Though they do all really enjoy coming home to familiar comfort foods, too.

< I think I've got all of you guys added! I wonder if there's a good spot on there where we can have a thread to encourage each other, too...

v Does your doll/character enjoy traveling, or would they rather stay home?

 

^ Elliot would rather stay at home, while Ollie and Ji-Han would like traveling. In her old age and with a uncertain lifestyle, Gobbie likes stability where she can get it, but isn't adverse to traveling when she feels she has to.

> Forgot the rest, oops. I think I will do NaNo then. Oh, and I have an interview for the first time in months. This could be it!

v Your doll is given one chance at something they would never have a shot at otherwise. What are they taking a chance on?

 

^ The band guys are asked to play at a local university party / festival thing. Not all of them are sure it's a good idea, but they play and it turns out to be pretty cool.

< I wish people who commission stuff would communicate. Running out of time here.

v What's your doll's #1 pet peeve?

 

^ Tyler's biggest pet peeves are when people don't put things back where they found them, or when people don't push their chairs in after getting up from the table or when people obstruct the sidewalk with their trash bins. Actually those are some of Reid's pet peeves, too. Reid also hates it when people squeeze toothpaste from the middle of the tube. Noé has too many pet peeves to list, but one of his biggest ones is in winter when the snowplow fills in the snow he's already shovelled out of his driveway. Aubrey's pet peeve is when people misspell his name.

V How is your doll/character at remembering important dates like birthdays?

 

^ lol John is terrible. He's had brain damage due to what I call an "accident" and now he can't remember anything, especially info containing numbers and names. He might remember you had a birthday, and he was there, and you did stuff.....but no clue when it was/is.

V Have you ever done bizarre things with your doll that might be totally out of character for them, but you like it, so whatever?
