v Do you decorate for the dolls or take the dolls to the decorations?

 

^ The past years I decorated for the dolls. I don't really do much xmas stuff for/by myself so major decorations are at the parents' place, and while my mom and sis would be cool with me bringing dolls along I really don't need le dad's running commentary on how weird it is for a grown-@r$e woman to be playing with dolls. I might keep an eye out for SD sized fake trees on sale after the holidays though, so they can have their own proper xmas tree next year ^^

v What would your dolls' ideal xmas (or other winter holiday) be like?

 

^ Visiting strange shops selling products from other parts of their world or from other planets/dimensions. Trying that blue tea they've heard about. And that red drink as well. Making stuff for others. Repairing their own. Having a row about WHO should be the recipient of my next sewing endeavour . I am suffering, truly, .

V Which home made drink would your doll like best for Xmas?

 

^ Hot chocolate! With or without marshmallows, depending who you ask. Also maybe a shot of Bailey's.

v Your dolls are having a movie night. What's on the watch list?

 

^ In honor of Carrie Fisher, I deem that the movie night is all seven existing Star Wars episodes, back to back, in order.

V Got any creative types amongst your crew?

 

^ Ash is a graphic artist who works with his brother who is an ad agent. They make a great team.

< 2016 was my biggest doll buying year though many of them haven't arrived yet. Next year it will be about clothing and character and photostories.

v New ventures in the new year for your characters/dolls?

 

^ Sewing, sewing, sewing!
One doll is wearing a Christmas sweater that will be out of season soon and I just got a body in today and all he has to wear is a pair of leggings made for the first doll!

< Waiting for the head to go on the body I got today is gonna be rough. Estimated shipping date is in February. OTL

v What's the longest you've ever waited for a doll?

 

^ uh... Like... 4 months? I ordered from sugarble before they discontinued their tinys.

< how the heck am I supposed to make a neck cap.... *grumbles to self about over zealous plans*

v Speaking of over planning, have you ever had plans for a doll and then realize you may have gone overboard? ie clothing, wigs, mods, ect.

 

^ Sort of? The original body I had for Ed was going to need some pretty substantial mods... it was tall and lanky, and would basically have needed reconstruction. I actually pencilled in all the areas where I needed to cut resin away and rebuild it, thinking that for the price of the body, I could pull it off. And then I never did it, because it was a ridiculous amount of work, and it honestly wasn't worth it after all. The mods I'm doing now (which have been on-hold pending getting my studio space fully finalized into an area where I can safely work on him again) are still pretty ambitious, but when I look at what I was originally intending to do, they feel a lot more achievable.

< If it's not one kitten getting into trouble, it's the other... sigh.

v What's the biggest change in plans you've ever had with one of your dolls?

 

^ Nova's entire shell was a surprise. A friend was selling a suitable body for super cheap at a meet, and I snatched it up without knowing 100% what I would be doing with it. Add an equally inexpensive head off the Marketplace, and Nova came together in just about the blink of an eye. His proportions are just slightly off, but overall, I'm happy!

< I got a doll for Christmas! That's never happened to me before!! I can't wait to post about her all over the freaking forums, I'm just so excited, she's gorgeous and I love her.

v Do you have any dolls that come from different stories but get along well regardless?

 

^ Yes. My OC Crow and all my DC dolls. But it's because they're in scale with each other an none of my other dolls XD
Plus he shares his clothes with the Joker and they sit on the shelf together. Dolls that are the same height together play together?

> I have several days of my vacation left. Maybe I'll get to do doll stuff? YAY!

V Did you get any doll stuff for the holidays? If not, do you have a list of things you want after your funds recoup from Christmas?

 

^ SHOES. I think I hate doll shoe shopping almost as much as I hate doing it for me, because I can never find something I like, at a price I like, that's the right size. I need to just start learning to make some myself... for now, there's a lot of barefootedness happening around here.

< Made my first wig Monday night, and put it on the doll yesterday... now I feel more motivated to refresh his whole look!

v What's your least favorite doll item to have to go shopping for?

 

^ strings. I hate hunting for strings.

< I wish it was summer. I could do some stone carving if it was summer.

V do you have a hobby you'd love to go back to but can't?

 

^ umm...I guess photography, not that I was any good but I like taking pics of my dolls and wanted to finish my photo story but my camera is busted.

< freaked out a bit right now cuz I completely forgot I had a snic in my pocket so now I have to go back to work tomorrow in the morning to give it back T.T

v what is your process when creating a world for your doll characters?

 

^ Something randomly pops into my head. Can be a scene, a snippet of background information, even just a picture. From there on it just unfolds, and from there it all depends on how much detail I want / need. If I really put my mind to it, I could probably come up with a complete "world", but I usually don't go beyond what I need at the time and let the rest develop once it comes up. (That's a roleplaying habit of mine - I sketch out my characters' backstories without going into too much detail, deliberately leaving "blanks" to fill if stuff ever comes up in-game.)

< Why is it on some days one could split oneself in three and still not get everything done, then other days are completely pointless?

v Quick! You have $1000 to spend, no fullsets allowed but you get to do all the mix-and-matching, like every part from every company fits everything else. What do you get?

 

^ A Ringdoll Lucifer on the RGM03 body in WS and a Granado Lads body in NS. Which will probably be over 1000...but maybe not by much?

V Now you get $1000 to spend on clothes. You can buy from any site you want (but it's got to be an actual site with clothes available - no "what ifs" or commissions)! What do you get and where is it coming from?

 

^ On Stacy's Pink Ocean site there's few nice suits, so probably them and... have no idea what more now. But definitely would find something more having to spend 1000$ freely.

v Do your dolls characters like sports or rather prefer to spend some time on a couch with hot cocoa and cookies?

 

^ Kyle likes to be active, but he's not a huge fan of organized sports. And, since I'm a couch, cocoa, and cookies person, he spends a lot of time doing that with me

< Eagerly awaiting my second bjd. And it's snowing outside! Looks so pretty ^_^

v What is the scariest thing you've done to/with your doll(s) that actually turned out OK?

 

^ Still in progress, but working fine... doing my automail mods on FairyLand bodies. Mainly terrifying because of the cost of those bodies--not counting one elaborate fantasy limited, the FL bodied dolls are the most expensive ones in my collection, and it took a lot for me to decide to buy one so I could carve it up. And then it took a lot for me to take the knife to it the first time... After that, it got a lot easier, since there's no going back now!

< They're not even started yet, but I'm all antsy waiting for my room boxes to be done. I want my dolls where I can see them again! Maybe I'll start the mini display rooms while I wait...

v I like that question, I'm passing it down: What's the most terrifying thing you've done to/with your dolls that turned out ok?

 

^I took my Razjel (SD guy) to take some photos lately in the other room and when I was taking him back to his shelf I accidentaly hit his leg at the room door. For a second I was sure that I broke his leg or something, but happily nothing happened. He's a though angel .

v Indeed this is a good question so let's go again: What's the most terrifying thing you've done to/with your dolls that turned out ok?

 

^ just mods. I did a Two-face mod to one head and added teeth a smile and opened the eyes on another head in the past several months. These were the most involved mods I've done and I was nervous but they turned out ok.

V What is the first thing you did with your dolls in 2017?

 

^ Stare at the latest arrivals in disbelief I've only been home a couple hours this year so there was no time. If I'm lucky, there'll be faceups tomorrow

< Teenaged LARPers, whee! I got myself a 15 year old Bajoran NPC. This rocks.

v Because I haven't really done anything with my dolls yet: What are you planning to do with yours (next)?

 

^ I'd really, really like to finish my automail mods this year! My studio still needs a little work (and the cats need a little work on staying off the table in there), but I think I can get both Eds down and start carving them up again.

< There's plenty other I want to get done too, though...

v What's your most ambitious project you have planned for this year?

 

^ My most ambitious project would probably be to start making clothes for my dolls this year, it's completely new to me so i think there will be a big learning curve involved, but i'm looking forward to it!

< I'm waiting for a doll head to come back from being modified, and i'm feeling a little impatient, but also excited!

v What doll/doll item are you waiting on right now?

 

^ I'm waiting for an unassembled Migidoll boy body that was in customs before the three day holiday. I think I'll be getting it on Wednesday, with luck.

< Squeal!!!!! Rogue One was fantastic. It was unexpected to see some old familiar faces.

v What are you waiting on or waiting to do?

 

^ I'm waiting to do Misty's body blushing, as it's too cold right now. Waiting sucks.

< Gah, moving, and my brain isn't working, and I have to wait to finish Misty's wings because of the move this week. But, hey! Out of my parents' house! Yea!!!

v What accessory would you love to have for your doll but can't find/afford?

 

^ A decent-looking, SD scale wheelchair. Not a chance, they plain don't exist.

< Those people who can't knock off the drama just once. Why do I even bother with them?

v We've had a bunch of "uncooperative doll" stories, so let's turn it upside down! Ever been surprised (in a good way) by a doll? (as in, my AprilStory dolls arrived after all and Adrienne insta-clicked with the OC I loosely had in mind for her, so yay good dolly ^^)

 

^ honestly, most of my dolls worked out! Which is why I have so many >.<
But, in the last couple months I decided to finally sell my second doll ever, a B&G Ymir I named Lucifer (after an OC. Who is Lucifer.). I took him off the shelf and undressed him and that's about as far as I got...and I decided I couldn't quite let "him" go, so I thought I'd get a new head and have him share my DT elf body for a size upgrade to be in scale with my collection. The head I bought didn't work out, so I pulled one from my sale pile I didn't really want to let go, and it's PERFECT. I love it. Side by side, they even have similar features. Talk about instal-click!

V Have you ever changed your doll's characters around? Did it work out or did you fail miserably?

 

^ A couple of times, yes. I won a doll in a raffle that I originally decided could be the Winry in my character doll group... but she just always seemed too grumpy. I finally decided she wasn't suited for the character and ordered another doll to be Winry, but I also loved the sculpt and didn't want to give up on her, so I developed a whole new one for her that fits much, much better! And currently in progress, my first Soom tiny (Glati) was originally planned and styled as a dark, punk-kind of creature. It never quite worked, though, and I've been reimagining him as more of a woodsy forest sprite. Entirely different personality and look, but the name's staying the same. I've gotten attached to it. I'm hoping it works well, I like the plans I have for him at least!

< Ten hour work day... and two and a half in a meeting where I needed to pee really badly.

v Have you ever changed just the name of a doll (not the character)?

 

^ Not really ... I want to, though. My main story got re-written so freaking many times anyway and I'm terrible with names, and boy is it noticeable, so I'd like to re-name a few of them (the main most of all) but as every pic has been posted with her old name I'm afraid it would be too confusing.

< @VampireAngel13 yaaas. Bit hard as the drama cookie in question is a member of the same LARP group, but I'm doing my best. I usually steer clear of her stuff as far as possible anyway. *skips off to do some faceups instead*

v What's the first thing you do with a new arrival?

 

^ Get 'em dressed! I always try to have something for them to wear floating around, so clothes go on the doll posthaste.

v Your doll is having an insomniac spell. How do they cope?

 

^ Several of these guys think sleep is for the weak, so there's always all kinds of all-hours activities going on around here. Laika, for instance, would probably just snort a line & get dressed & go out looking for havoc. But those who like sleep and/or have jobs have other techniques.... Karsten just picks up his book and reads until the Sandman comes back, Yuki has a little bourbon and has one of his pets service him, Sada stares out the window for inspiration, Kaiya meditates.

> Myself has been dosing up with whatever means necessary to grab just a few healing hours of sleep... I've been miserably sick for the past week, but strangely haven't been sleeping much, when I need it most. The OTC-induced coma will have to suffice. Time to get back into Corpse Pose.

< One of the things I love about dolls is the way they don’t sweat or move around, so their expensive clothes *should* last forever. But alas, some are on a timer. Do you have any doll clothing that has "gone bad" over the years? Decayed plastic or rubber, moth-crumbled alpaca, shedding feathers...?

 

^ I only have one doll and so far, if she's passionate about anything other than shopping/clothes, she has yet to tell me.

v Weird question maybe, but have you had any awkward moments where either you or one of your dolls/characters had to explain the "birds and the bees" to a doll/character?

 

^ lol oh gods yes, there is an incident with seil who is very stoic person having a similar convo with Destiny when she was younger.

^ Yep. Poor Leon had give the dreaded talk to his two little sisters, June and Marah. They were not amused and Leon had to enlist the assistance of his friends. This did not help.

v I'm passing the question on again because it really is hysterical: did any of your dolls/characters have to give or listen to the birds and the bees talk?

 

^ Michaelle (doll in icon) would have had sex ed in school this year or the previous one. there's nothing quite as enjoyable as going through "the talk" in group! Really sets the atmosphere to voice all of your questions and concerns. xP

^ Clover wants to be a game designer .she is very interested in anything to do with video games.

v what are you planning to buy next?

 

^ Planning? That would be a tan (milktea?) Miyadoll girl, the 30cm-ish size, to be my Ishvalan girl I've been after for my collection. (Then I just need one Little Monica to finish off that group! Not counting pets, anyway.) Whether that will ACTUALLY be my next resin purchase or not, I'm not sure, but it's the next planned one.

v Was your most recent purchase a long-term planned one, or more of an impulse?

 

^ My most recent purchase started out as the accessories in a split then wound up I bought the body too. Not planned semi-impulse but with all my floating heads he will be welcome and my be the body for more than one head.

< How is it so cold on the Texas coast? This is torture.

v How do you plan your purchases, character, love the doll or some other way?

 

^ Eyes. I am a stickler for eyes. They have to be just right or else I'll keep trying until they ARE just right. Sometimes I'm severely handicapped by knowing exactly what I want for a doll...and then having it be a total bastard to find, like the Ivory Blue Mystics I want for Jes. Super pale blue. Not an easy color to find, and Mystics are not an easy eye to find anymore, and I will not settle for anything other than good urethanes for her. Sigh.

< *writes like a fiend* I gotta hand it to YOI, it got me to start writing again for the first time in years. Now maybe I'll finish my Homestuck fic.

v Do your dolls exist solely as dolls, or do you write about/draw/some other form of media outside their doll forms?

 

^ My dolls are characters first, dolls second. I do draw and write them - all the time! But I was an artist and (dabbling) writer first, before there were dolls, and I feel like BJDs are seamlessly integrated into that, so I don't see it as separate. If that makes sense.

V What makes you start shopping or looking at dolls or doll items? Boredom? Opportunity? Only look when you have money to buy? Other?

 

^Definitely boredom. I have a bad habit of window shopping to procrastinate

v Where's the most exotic/distant place your dolls have traveled? This could be either for the dolls or their characters.

 

^ Rowan and Nava have each been to Japan! It's terrific fun to make a Japan-O-Rama travelogue when you have a little travelling gnome with you. Several of my dolls have also been to New York, and even more of them have been to Los Angeles & other points within California.

< It is so good to be able to breathe normally again. I hate colds!! At least I've got my appetite back, too; this is one of the few times I've ever lost 5 lbs over Christmas vacation. I almost feel cheated.... I should be groaning about squeezing into my favorite jeans after too many plum puddings, but here I am digging up the little clothes....

v Do you have any performing artists among your doll crew? What's their act?

 

^ Kiyo and Dave are both musicians; Kiyo's weapons of choice are voice and guitar, while Dave arms himself with synthesizers and turntables.

v Got any upcoming doll events you're really looking forward to?

 

^ None, sadly. I wish Dolliverse still existed ... it was called off last year, maybe there's one this Summer. Then that'd be it. If not, I might have to drive my rear over to the Netherlands and visit Think Pink!'s store.

< I've got a bit of a musical crush on the symposium choir's conductor. Friggin genius with a sense of humor and a taste in music close to mine. We might be singing one of my favorite new choir pieces next year because he loves it too.

v Your dolls need to pick an art class / course of any kind (choir / orchestra / band / painting / sculpting / acting / dance ...). What does each of them go for?

 

^ A Drag Queen pageant or competition.

< I'm so sick of being sick already! And I wish the tea would hurry and cool down so I can drink it already.

v What is the most embarrassing thing your doll(s) has/have ever done?

 

^ not much ... except standing/lying around naked, or in pieces.

< I miss the chat feature. It was so nice chatting with the lovely folks of DoA!

v Since we're having a weather warning and might get off school (read: work) tomorrow: How would your doll(s) spend a snow day?

 

^ From the characters, Ed and Jace would probably spend it snuggled up under blankets in front of a fireplace, with some good books and tea. Razzy would probably spend the day playing outside, and would drag out whoever else would go with her. From the OCs, Gabriel would probably go for a walk in the gardens, Maren would probably settle in to watch the snow from somewhere warm, and Cete and Instar would definitely be having a snowball fight!

v What's winter like where your doll(s) are from?

 

^ I'll talk about Brantley since he's the only one that's arrived so far. His character was born and raised in Minnesota. One of the 5 coldest states in America. So very, very cold with blizzard conditions.

v What song(s) describes your doll(s) character?

 

^ Gasoline and control by Halsey for Crow. He has a playlist, but those are really good ones for him.

V Do you have any new\recent characters you would like to shell into a doll? What mold(s) are you thinking of?

 

^ The last would have been Granado Vipo. I'm a bit out of the loop Apart from that I'm kind of excited about the changes Iple made to the Herculean woman, even though she's too tall to work with my crew - it's just nice to see more diversity.

No snow day after all. It's snowed, but not enough to get out of work.

v What's your doll's morning (or whenever they get up) routine?

 

^ If Kiyo had his druthers his routine would be to tell the world to screw right the hell off and go back to bed. Since he is an athlete, however, he doesn't have that luxury so it's get up, go for a three-mile run, come back, shower, eat something with protein in it, and then get on with the day.
