v What would you like to be doing with / for your dolls right now?

 

^Probably be working on doll cosplay. convention is 22 days away!

V What is the most strange/out of character doll that you surprisingly love (not in your style)

 

^ Well... I guess at this point it'd be Dikadoll Mudan, because she's one of the only cutesy girl I've liked, really. I'm teally picky, and usually like big, glamorous girls. She's so cute though!

< Yesssss, actually going out for food. No PB&Js for lunch today.

v What would your doll/character consider a perfect date?

 

^ a perfect date for my dolls would be one that never ends

v what is the single most fascinating thing in being in the hobby for you?

 

^ I'm afraid I can't do single, it's a tie for me. On the one hand, the community. I know people complain about snark and stuff, but I've never encountered any negativity worth mentioning in this hobby. On the contrary, I find people exceedingly friendly and helpful.
On the more "technical" side, I'd have to say the way sculpts can just "click" for a character - either when they're ordered, or when they're home. Seeing my OCs settle into their resin avatars will never cease to amaze me.

< So many fabrics. All the tiny flowers ... I need to go back and fabric shop when stuff is on sale and I've got time to actually do anything with it. I've got too many fabrics already anyway, but my word such nice patterns and prints (And here I am with all blacks for my band guys. Go figure.)

v Good question though, passing it down - what is the single most fascinating thing in being in the hobby for you?

 

^ Singularly, it would be as you said the way sculpts just 'click' with a character. Or conversely how they can draw or pull a character to life, an OC you didn't even know was there but they wanted to 'be'.

< Thunderstorms are messing with my head stirring up the pollen. Ugh.

v What is the hardest/most difficult part of the hobby for you?

 

^ Deciding if a sculpt is truly perfect! I'm scared currently as I wait for my 2 dolls to come in. Im afraid one won't have the right facial expression while the other one might have too small of a head! It took me long enough to pick the sculpts for this character, and aall I want is perfection!! LOL

< 1 hour 20 minutes left of work, my head is swimming.

v do you spend more on doll clothes, or human clothes. ;P and are you okay with it?

 

^ Absolutely 100% doll clothes, and I'm totally fine with that. I hate shopping for clothes for me, but shopping for Aelic? Soooo much fun. Plus I'd never spend $60+ on an outfit for myself, but I would for Aelic if I liked it enough. Also, like...my clothes just aren't that expensive? I can get a few t-shirts for $20, but Toshi (for example) wears traditional Japanese clothing, and teeny versions of those clothes is much more expensive than my stuff.

< I'm tired of writiinnggggg...but once I'm finished I'm freeeeee...until I need to finish a new research proposal.

v What's your favorite type of doll clothes to shop for? Do you like casual, cute clothing, or more costume-y stuff?

 

^ I really like casual. I have a bit of a fixation on well made mini jeans (realistic looking fabric that isn't too stiff for smaller scale and real pockets)! And printed tees are sometimes hard to find but always good

< It's sad, but I'm not meant to go to bed later than 22:00. It really kills me.

v what kind of music do your dolls listen to?

 

^ Elliot likes soothing stuff, classical, soft jazz, things like that. Olive likes pop, pop rock, pop punk, EDM, things she can jam out or dance to.

v When is the last time you suddenly felt pressured to buy a doll or doll part? Did you give in?

 

^ A couple months ago when Iple retired a bunch of JID sculpts ... and yes, I did. ^^° There should be a shipping notice any day now. They were on the wishlist, but planned for much, much later (as in, once I had my main crew complete). The discontinuation bumped them up the list.

< Kitty boy. I love you too, but this is getting ridiculous.

v Do you own any resin pets? Why (not)?

 

^ Oh boy... That's super hard. It's probably a tie between an AkagiDoll You Yue for Niku, and a shell for Eiichi... But I guess I'd have to go for Niku and a bunch of clothes, 'cause a four horned, six armed oni with deep red skin is proooobably gonna be pretty hard to shell. (I guess I should find a base for him, but the modding is gonna be...extensive.)

Why is your body type so weird? Not even talking about the arms. Just...how am I ever gonna shell you...? Toshi is lonely.

v Your doll/character's favorite show is being cancelled! How do they react?

 

^ There isn't much telly being watched in this household (neither the human-sized one nor the doll one), but I suppose there'd be quite a bit of outrage if, say, BBC stopped filming Sherlock for good (let's hope they don't). People - human and resin - would debate why the series needed to go on, what could have been done still, what was good, what was bad, and how they were horrible people to deprive us of more.

< This past week, Jaziel has made it all the way from St Petersburg to - drumroll - St Petersburg! What the heck is it with every postal service ever lately? /bangs head against wall

v What is the longest time one of your dolly parcels has spent in transit?

 

^ I vaguely remember a week long wait, though I cannot be sure.

V Yay! Your BJD has decided to get married. Who does she/he choose and what his/her wedding day looks like?

 

^ Oh geez. I don't think Ilya would ever get married, but if he did his wedding would be bizarre probably. I don't even think I can imagine it. Aelic getting married seems more likely; his boyfriend Nimbus is his soulmate, so they'd probably get married at some point. They'd have a cute and simple wedding, though they might have trouble with the weather, considering that Nimbus is a weather spirit and loses control of his powers sometimes when he gets emotional.

< I regret getting pulled into Beyblade Burst. I'm a grown person, darn it, I do not need to be spending my money on fancy spinning tops. (But Xeno Xcalius is soooo pretty...)

v If your human doll/character was transformed into a mythical creature, what would they be and why?

 

^ Oh this is so easy, John would be a unicorn.

V Does your doll have any bizarre interests? Do you have props to support this interest?

 

^ Tiny banji is into yodeling which I find quite bizarre. His outfit includes leather shorts and a felt hat. Best props would be the alps to do a photoshoot but he has a sheperd dog to accompany him.

V Are you into minimalism, or would you accumulate as many props as you can for your doll?

 

^ Props and more props, made, found, or bought. The more the better for my guys. The Pub is a visual of that philosophy.

v What's your preference, multiple gesture hands or jointed hands?

 

^ Multiple gesture hands, which a couple of mine came with by default. I don't have any jointed hands, currently, but my burning need to unstring every doll that comes through this door would probably spell doom with jointed hands.

< I so need to see GotG 2 again, I know I totally missed one of the cameos, and I definitely missed some dialogue because I was laughing too hard.

v What's your doll(s)'s comfort level with technology?

 

^ Aelic is a normal teenager and therefore has no trouble with it. Ilya, Nikos, and Sylvan are pretty good with operating electronic devices, but get waaay overly-excited whenever they do something cool. (They are selkies that grew up in the Arctic, after all...) And Toshi doesn't count because he lives in a historic setting, so no modern tech.

< I can't wait for all my recent outfit orders to get here! Ilya's eyes too~ My boys are getting so spoiled...

v Your doll/character wins an all-expense-paid trip to wherever they choose! Where do they go and what do they do there (adventure, relax, etc.)?

 

^ My Dragon Age doll, Eshne would go to Orlais (which is basically fantasy France).

Being jeweler by day and a thief by night, a country full of snooty rich folks would be a great business trip.
Sell them a beautiful necklace and matching earrings in the morning, rob them blind in the evening. He'd get his money back real fast.

< I'm trying not to buy anymore dolls this year, but I found a limited I love in stock and I want her so bad. I have the money, no other pressing expenses, I could easily just order her. But should I???

v You wake up one morning and your doll has grown to human sized and come to life.

Is this a good or bad thing?
What's the first thing they'd do with their newfound sentience?

 

^ Well, I think she would really need some clothes! Or at the very least, bundle her up in a blanket;; She seems pretty curious, but kind of shy! So I imagine she's the type you catch looking at something, and then gets all nervous and flustered when you ask what she's looking at.

v This has probably been asked before, but! What's your favorite part of putting together your doll? Faceup, wigs? Getting them dressed?

 

^ Designing and making new clothing! Putting it on, taking it off and changing the seam a centimeter, putting it back on...when it finally fits perfectly, it's so satisfying!

v If you had to trade places with a doll (say, suddenly you're living their life as you've imagined it and they're living yours), what would you do? Would you be happy, or would it be really terrible?

 

^That would be awesome. That would be so so awesome. My doll basically lives in a version of the world that's like my dream version of this world. I have an issue with this world? Boom issue isn't there in that world. There are still problems and things that are pretty terrible but hey there's magic and dragons so it's kind of an even trade off. I can't tell how he'd feel about it though, he might be a bit depressed by it. But who knows, maybe he'd like the differences? I'd probably ride ALL the dragons and go climb a mountain or something.

vAwesome question so it's getting passed down, If you had to trade places with a doll (say, suddenly you're living their life as you've imagined it and they're living yours), what would you do? Would you be happy, or would it be really terrible?

 

^ almost all of my characters are regular humans between the age of 15 and 25 going through school and/or work. I guess I wouldn't want to trade places with the younger ones that are still in high school D:

v similar question: is there one of your doll you WANT to trade your life with?

 

^ Yep - Mara. Back when I came up with them I needed one to be an orchestra member, and I gave her my own (main) instrument because sometimes I'm uncreative as feck. A couple years later her job had morphed into my dream job ... so from today's perspective (having tried and failed to get that very job) I'd trade places in a heartbeat.

< half sick and with a fresh arrival to take care of, but too stubborn to call in sick for tomorrow. I'm not the smartest cookie today.

v Turning it upside down: Is there one of your dolls you'd never ever trade places with?

 

^all of them? They're characters from my novels and I can't think of a single one of them whose life is without PTSD... oops. Worst to swap with would be either Balik, who is held captive for two years, and pretty much treated as a stress ball but convinced that that's love, or her captor, Tacet, who's in an abusive family situation and basically treated like a science experiment/pawn. She also goes through a lot of exceptionally painful power transfusions and her sense of identity is pretty messy. So, neither or them (nor any of the others.)

V what's the last song you listened to and how does it relate to one of your characters?

 

^ ...does the My Little Pony themesong count? Because that's kind of the only thing I've actually listened to today... But I can totally make that work anyway! In their backstory, Jace had actually pretty much given up on friendship and interpersonal connections after being betrayed and burned too many times, until Ed showed up and offered him genuine friendship, which got him to finally open up to other people. (And lead to a different relationship for the two of them.)

< Still so much to do before con and time is running out!

v What genre of tv series would your doll(s)'s story be?

 

^ Sitcom? With a few fantastical elements, like the fact that it has living dolls.

> How am I going to play with my dolls surrounded by my big family?

v How do you interact with you dolls?

 

^ I 'play' with my dolls. Move them, pose them. Enjoy them. Photograph them. I'll 'talk to them', but not really as a conversation. More so when I lose something in my room I'll go 'you guys were the last to see it!' as a Joke. xD

v If you could have any doll in teh world, what would it be?

 

^ Hmm... Well, I guess that'd depend on the situation! If I'd get the doll I want most right at this moment, then it'd probably be Ilya's brother Nikos, who is a Dollzone Ivan. But if I was going more off cost and rarity, I'd probably go with one of the limited Soom fullset SDs, maybe a normal skinned Euclase (or a White Rabbit, because SD rabbit legs). ((Also, are we only talking dolls that actually exist? Because having a shell for my four horned, six armed oni with deep red skin that I didn't have to modify myself would be pretty awesome. ))

< I can't wait to open everyone's clothes when they get here... I honestly like getting clothes for my current guys almost as much as getting new dolls. It's fun!

v Which doll (sculpt/painting/styling-wise, not necessarily character [though that probably factors into it]) would you consider your most unique/weird and why?

 

^ The DC Isabel full set with wings She's so beautiful.

^ Answering @KiyoshiSenshi's! My most unique doll is definitely my Kitty Jolie, aha~ To be fair, she's really only competing with a Dollfie Dream, but;; And for @astromecha, my first doll (or at least, the doll I really consider my first) was that Dollfie Dream, Snow Miku! I'd been hoping to get a DD Miku, so when they opened up the special preorder, I was super excited;; Now I'm really looking forward to getting her Twinkle Snow outfit!

v When you're getting a new doll, do you buy everything for them in advance? Or do you wait until you get the doll?

 

^ a bit of both. For my incoming dolls right now, I have a fullset one of them comes with in, im ordering another's hair, and at least a couple dresses. I want to attempt to figure our eyes for the three of them, but knowing the eye colour the queen of hell would select, for example, can be hard. I'm going to try some of the eyes I have on her before I buy her any..her consort is much easier to choose for, because is eyes just have to be silver, but I'm waiting to get my own resin to make eyes...so... I have some of the stuff ready. The rest is a mess.

V what do you do to prepare for an incoming doll?

 

^ I usually have pretty clear picture in my head of the desired style and appearance, so I start from putting the outfit together. Searching bits and pieces, ordering ones that seem to be just what I need... I also work on the story, so when the doll arrives I could start bonding with a character, not with a doll as such.

< Public speaking can be surprisingly fun... fun nightmare still.

v Do your dolls miss you when you're not at home?

 

^ Not entirely, but I'm working on it. I do have some jackets and coats, some lighter "summery" stuff, and I've made some holiday dresses for a few of the girls. Ideally I'd love for everyone to have at least one "cold weather" and one "warm weather" outfit that's exclusively theirs (for the ones that wear clothes, anyway), but that's a ways out, considering how many of them there are. They still need their primary outfits. ^^

< Ugh, I feel lousy and I don't know why. Hoping it was just too many noodles for lunch...

v Are you planning anything spring or summer related for your dolls right now?

 

^ Not so much season-specific, but I'm starting to toy with the idea of doing Canada Day-themed outfits for them, since this year is Canada's 150th anniversary

< The "official" word is sesquicentennial. It's such a fun word to say... XD

v Which of your dolls(' characters) is a language junkie/grammar nazi? Which one would be the one to roll their eyes and use all the slang, grammatically correct or no?

 

^ Being a linguist by profession, Sini is a language junkie. Aubrey is the 'grammar police'. Kiro is the one who uses All The Slang™

V where would be your doll/character's dream vacation spot?

 

^ Ilya would be super torn between which brother to take! He'd probably just buy an exta ticket for one of them, and take both Nikos and Sylvan on suuuuuper fancy cruise to a bunch of tropical places. They're used to cold, rainy weather, so they'd be totally floored by the nice beaches and palm trees.
Aelic would either take his mother or his boyfriend Nimbus (depending on what stage of his life he's in) and go somewhere in Europe, maybe Scotland or Ireland, France, something like that. They'd probably have something leisurely like a river cruise or stay in a cute bed and breakfast.

v If you could only dress your doll in what type of outfit (different than its current style), what style would you choose?

 

^ ooh hmm currently she is dressed somehow... i dont want to call it lolita-like?
But she has a frilly and cute dress.
I'd probably choose something elegant and glittery. A long dress, maybe even a bit transparent? Like a well-mannered lady~

^ Ooh I love this question! If Tyler were female, she'd wear pretty much what he wears now; jeans, plaid shirts and sneakers. Not sure what his name would be, although it'd probably still be something that starts with a 'T', like Tara.

^ My doll's character has a fluid sense of gender already, so she's thought a lot about this. As a male, he'd change his name from Antheryn to Antheron. In a fantasy setting, he'd wear long robes over tight leather (he's a bit of a saucy creature). In the modern world, he'd wear slightly gothic "dress casual" clothes or a well-tailored suit, depending on the situation.

If your doll were the opposite gender, what would his or her name be? What would he or she wear?

 

^ I wanna do this for all the Browns.
Katie would be called Alexander (after their grandpa). He'd wear all the hoodies, and torn jeans. Also, sneakers.
Jo would simply be John instead of Johanna. He'd be more stylish, maybe not following every trend but being the polar opposite to Katie / Alex ... smart shirts, polished shoes, that kind of thing. He miiiight stumble into hipster territory at some point.
If Timmy was a girl, she'd be called Isabelle. I guess being a shy kid is unrelated to gender, so she'd try to stay below the radar clothes-wise - just casual, nice things, no "glaring" colours or anything.

v If you could get one currently available doll right now (as in, instantly in your hands) which one would it be and why?

 

^ Whoops, misread this initially! But if a doll that I could just order right now (and isn't in stock) counts, then Fairyland's Momo! Not the fullset, just the head on a Moe line body. I've got a character in mind for her who I've been really eager to get started on! *u*

v What is your doll's/character's signature item?

 

^It's probably currently the black sphere necklace I made him. It's like a black pearl strung through with floral wire and attached to a doll sized necklace chain that I stole borrowed from a friend.

vWould any of your dolls watch horror movies?

 

^ Totally! Ilya would probably end up in his brother Nikos' room that night terrified though. Aelic handles it better because he as a very rational mind and doesn't get freaked out, but Ilya is a Drama Queen Extraordinaire and would act all cocky and stuff until he thought there was a xenomorph hiding in his closet. (Toshi doesn't really count here because he doesn't have TV, but if he could watch a horror movie in Edo period Japan, he'd probably think it was dumb because "Um, monsters don't look like that... Have these people ever been to a goblin market?")

< Now I just need a shipping notice for Ilya's eyes and I'll have all the stuff I've ordered recently en route~ Nice.

v What is your doll/character's favorite flavor (sweet, savory, salty, sour, etc.) and favorite food with that characteristic?

 

^ Alex likes sweets best, his favorite is ice cream. John likes sweets too (especially cake), but he also loves french fries.

V Do you have a BJD "to do" list? What's on it?

 

^ Ilya's wig! That's the last thing I need to "complete" him, but I had been putting it off until I was absolutely sure because it's gonna be expensive and take forever. I'm super excited for it though, Ilya is gonna look great~

v Your doll/character is invited by a friend to an event they reeeaaaaaally don't want to go to. How do they deal with the situation?

 

^ This would probably be Ollie dragging Elliot to an event, and he would try and hide in an isolated spot with a book.

v If all your dolls had to be changed to one size, what would you choose?

 

^ I'd choose the 60-65cm range, no question.

^ Souldoll Vito Paw wolf fullset in sandy brown with ALL THE OPTIONS Since he was a limited and had beast legs I am going to assume he will be quite expensive second hand... so... yeah. Second choice would be a Fairyland Sia full option package in white skin with transparent blue tail, and all bust options

< My body is super stiff today... feels like someone replaced all my muscles and tendons with rigid sticks and metal wire.

v In a similar vein: assuming money is no object. What would your doll purchase right now?

 

^ A Granado Female Nuevo body custom matched to my girl's head. It's so pretty, but so pricey, more than a full doll, at least with my taste.

v What sort of job would your doll want to work if they had to work?

 

^ I've got so many unemployed dolls. I don't think Ilari would be able to hold down a job even if he had to. Maybe something simple with zero customer interaction. Aletheia would like to work with animals. She prefers them over people. Emie would be happiest working at a butcher shop since she could eat all the scraps.

v Do you have any dolls without a character/backstory?

 

^ Yes ... I don't know much about Lestia (yet) because she was more or less an impulse buy when DiM discontinued a bunch of sculpts. The hobbits only have names so far (and I haven't decided which girl is which) - their backstory will happen, I just haven't got there yet. They, too, were bought earlier than expected because of discontinuations.

< LOVE. Our graduating class was singing this and we did it at a symposium earlier this year as well and omg LOVE. *melts into a gooey puddle of musical bliss*

v What kind(s) of music do your dolls' characters like? (Bonus for unexpected combos )

 

^ Alex is easy, he likes the same music I listen to, though his range is more narrow. John never listened to music much, until recently and he likes scores from movies. Wyn is into Jpop and Kimi's favorite band is Fallen which is an all angel goth rock band from that fictional world.
