^ I never thought I'd drive 7 hours one way to go to DollAKon, just to meet Huang Shan, the Ringdoll sculptor. I had a great time and meeting him was great.

^ Buy a doll that costs nearly $450, purely so I can attack it with Xacto blades? Even leading up to me buying him (and even up to the moment I took the first cut), I still didn't think I could actually do it! Now I just need to clear up my workroom so I can finish it...

< How did the simple act of upgrading my phone turn into a nearly-month-long comedy of failure? At least I'll have the new one next week, maybe? Hopefully? Fingers crossed?

^ Branching out this much. I mean, there've always been pipe dreams, but I always rather thought I'd stick to my main story. Didn't happen.

< Way past bedtime and Dad's b-day party coming up tomorrow. Need to mentally prepare for the combined crazy of his side's Sackville-Bagginses and my formerly-cool-recently-turned-SJW sister. (Every family has their Sackville-Bagginses, I swear.)

v Which of your dolls are the most socially adept/awkward (respectively)?

 

^ Hmm... That's hard! Ilya is socially awkward but doesn't know it; he's technically not human and doesn't know the same social rules, so he makes people uncomfortable sometimes but doesn't know that he does (everyone warms up to him quixkly though; he's endearing). Toshi does very well in formal situations but had some issues opening up in more casual settings, and Aelic is almost always at ease and quietly confident in social situations. I don't think any of my character are kn far extremes of the awkward/adept spectrum.

Thank you! The first piece of his outfit turned out really well, so I think this one will too, hopefully. (Especially considering it's less complicated than the first.)

v Do your dolls/characters believe in any conspiracy theories?

 

^ edit: I must have been sleepy and not noticed answers on the next page! Correct answer: Yes, my android doll believes she was made for some 'other purpose' but has had her memory wiped. Part of her story is to figure out just what that purpose was and how to regain her lost memories.

< I got a new Kimono Hime magazine and now I want to go shopping for some doll yukata fabric, little stripes!

V How important is it to you to get a doll styled up just right? Do you go all out and spend whatever it takes to make it so or do you sometimes cut corners with less expensive items?

 

^ It's pretty important to me! I understood when I got into this hobby that getting a doll done up exactly the way I want isn't going to be cheap, but I think in the end it'll be worth it! I'm the type where if, say, I'm looking at a pair of eyes, but those eyes are pretty spendy, if I go off and try to find a pair of eyes I like as well that are cheaper, I'm always going to regret not getting the original eyes, if that makes sense?

v What are your dolls' favorite things to wear?

 

^ Not all of them have something yet, but Ed's definitely claimed a black long-sleeve shirt I got in a GO years ago; no one else gets to wear that one! Jace definitely prefers his suit over any of the other options I have on-hand right now, and Prae only wants to wear a shimmery white dress I did as a test for scaling a human-sized pattern.

^^ Skipped question! A lot of them have, in some way or another, lived through a "conspiracy theory proven fact" type of circumstance... and it actually makes them more critical of further conspiracy theories. Having gone through their experiences, they're more likely to really heavily consider whether another conspiracy could actually happen or not, rather than just buying into it.

^ tacet Would Go for the most premium phone she could get. Like a rose gold iPhone 7, 128 gigs, and a case and Apple care and all the extras she could think of, because she's probably mad at her father and he's paying. In canon she has a flip phone (the indestructible Nokia) her brother's boyfriend gave her

^nope! I've always wanted physical versions of my characters and this is the most accurate version of them I can make. I fantasize that I found it earlier, rather than wasting my money on fashion dolls that weren't worth money I could have spent on bjds.

V what's your guilty pleasure in this hobby?

 

^ Well sculpted female bodies. Half of my girls were chosen because I loved the lines of their bodies.

v What was the sculpt that drew you to the hobby? Do you own it now?

 

^ Ooo, this is hard... I can't remember the exact doll I first saw that made me want one, but I know Soom Dia was probably the tipping point for me, along with DoD Ducan. The first doll I was saving up for was Dollmore Pado, but I never got him. I'd probably still want any of them if given the chance, but they're not at the very top of my wishlist anymore.

< Well, I didn't actually get anything made today, but I did buy a lot of supplies and did some experimenting, so maybe tomorrow!

^Clothing, because I know how well I can make them myself and I cringe at the prices of the ready made clothing, but I have a hard time (at times) making the clothing I know I can. That doesn't make much sense but there it is.

^ well it depends on the doll character. Although right this moment a majority of my dolls wear an excessive amount of black...So yeah there is that.

v Have you ever spontaneously hit the 'buy' button, instantly regretted the idiotic decision and the cost...and then fallen gratefully head over heels for the doll when it arrived? *coughnotspeakingfromexperienceoranythingcough*

 

^ No, I agonize over everything and second guess my choices, and usually end up not buying. The dolls I have bought, I love but some temporarily fall out of favor. (Not enough to sell one yet but that may change this year!)

v have you ever had too many project dolls going and felt too guilty to buy a new doll?

 

^ I'm still fawning over fin du siècle ... maybe with, maybe without a steampunk touch. But somehow I can't figure out where to start so I'm getting nowhere. (I'm like @Osaka in that regard, once something manages to grab my attention I work in fits and bursts ... followed by periods of doing nothing or little random side projects like sock sweaters. )

< @celga, that's the usual way over here ... the graveyards belong to the city, you rent the spaces and (let's be brutally honest here) after a certain period of time - depending on the type of soil - there's just nothing left but the stone. So they might as well vacate the site. German efficiency, eh?

^ Big yes to clothes! I buy clothes that either my dolls will wear once or never, but I refuse to sell them D: What if I need them?? What if I get a doll who wears them?!

V Do you have clothes for your dolls that no one wears? Why do you hang on to them?

 

^ I do have some old sweaters and whatnot that no one really wears these days, but that's mostly because I don't have enough dolls for them. Plus they're pretty standard, and a lot of my newer dolls have specific clothing styles, so they don't really work for any of my current boys.

v Do you have any purchases you're putting off that you know you need to complete your doll(s)? (Like a certain wig/eyes/clothes, etc.)

 

^ Unoa Eyes. My Unoa B-el hybrid has soft glass eyes and I love the look of those, some urethanes and some fantasy crystal eyes so much that I want to replace almost everyone else's. I might end up learning to make some batches of custom sized eyes unless I find some with a better iris to sclera proportion for my Unoa faces. Further completing this 5-doll gang is largely my 2017 project, I want them photo-ready before Yule.

< I'm catching a cold so all I really want are some scalding hot red chile enchiladas and a week-long nap. Chile cures everything and forgives sins...

v What is the last really creative thing you did with your doll(s)? What will be the next?

 

^ Started a new wig for Carlos. I'm planning on finishing it, and I've got some clothes to make too - my Elf boy needs his tunic done (even though the weather won't allow outdoor photoshoots any time soon) and I had an idea for a goth / steampunk hoodie kind of thing I'm itching to try. Too bad I don't have anything by way of tiny buckles ... I'll need to improvise.

v Your doll can't sleep. What do they do?

 

^ sleep is more an option than a given in the family. My elves are usually awaken by 'unexplained' or 'threatening' noises. My humans tend to get up and exercise, or have a walk, or, if they are too tired to do these, they go for the books that come their way. My youngest teen will check his faulty communication device to check if there are news or information that can be of interest.

V If your BJD was lost in the wilderness, what type of hiding hole would he/she choose?

 

^ John wouldn't hide, he would find his way out of the wilderness if he had to use brute force to do it. Because brute force is common in escaping wilderness?

V Your doll has to face their worst fear. What is it and how do they manage?

 

^ Evz worst fear is being separated from Ash (his twin) again. He was searching for relatives traveling around Europe for a couple of years. In response to that fear he is super clingy.

v Where would your dolls go for the nightlife?

 

^ My Unoa gang would hit the gay bar, you know...the one with lip-synch drag performances on Friday and Saturday nights, a drag king emcee and the lovely girl selling roses. The one with the pool table area and the big dance floor in the back portion, basically The Embers in Portland Or. circa 1990.
Or as B-el says almost weekly, "Vegas, Baby".

v which doll is your 'pain in the butt' and why? If you have one doll, what's their most annoying trait?

 

^ Well, right now I'm equally in love with and annoyed by Ilya, though it's more his outfit than him that's the pain; it took me ages to find a clamp that would work with 1/8 inch eyelets, but I've finally found one (with a built in hole punch, whoo!) so maybe he'll stop being my problem child soon. He needs a little more to wear than just a loincloth.

< Aeliiiiiccccc why are you so cute and fun to dress... I have so much stuff I wanna buuyyyyy...

v A witch suddenly turns your doll/character into an animal! What animal would they want to be and why?

 

^ Rowan would be a tentacle monster, because he saw them in an anime. I keep telling him they're not real, but that doesn't stop him. Rowan is kind of marching in his own parade.

< Massive Dollmore binge, wheeee . Well, we needed more corsets. And uniform jackets. And thigh-high boots. And cheap plastic tattoo-necklaces. The necessities of life.

v Are any of your doll crew the type who reads/watches the news every day?

 

^ Azrael totally does. Every morning, she gets up at stupid o'clock in the morning and turns on the local news. She's a freelance (rogue) guardian angel, and it gives her the motivation it takes to try to make a difference. Any time she sees news of someone dead of an overdose, or anything of the like, she wakes her boyfriend with a frantic phone call, Just to make sure Hes still alive. She bought him this phone so she could do that.

^ Very much floating heads. I did have a headless body for a long time, but my newest head kindly decided to be the OC I'd bought that body for, so no more headless bodies. (But five more heads on the wishlist. Go me.)

v If all your current projects were miraculously finished, what would you start next?

 

^ My current projects are bell-sleeved, medieval-esque gowns for my doll. If they were suddenly finished, I'd start designing surcoats to go with them.

v Do you have any characters that seem impossible to shell?

 

^ Yeah, a couple. Mostly because of skin color and patterns, like my gecko character. He's bright green with reddish-orange stripes and spots and a neon blue stomach and like...that would be really hard to paint. I also have a guy that has six arms, which I guess would technically be possible, but I'm not sure if I could make it look that good.

< Ilya's waist cinch is underway! It's looking so good, I'm surprised.

v What's your doll/character's favorite season and why?

 

^ Autumn. It just feels like such an active time of year. She loves the fashions and flavors and cool weather.

V Do you like any of the smaller "art doll" companies? Which ones?

 

^ That depends on what counts as a small "art doll" company. I like MerryDollRound, Lillycat Cerisedoll, Enaibi, Dust of dolls, and others too, but I don't remember all of them on the fly :P

v Do you have any hybrid dolls? what parts are they made up from? and was it a planned hybrid or a "I have this head, and I have this spare body *plonk* hm that works" type thing?

 

^ I don't have a hybrid yet, but I have several planned! Mostly because I keep liking heads from artists who don't make bodies. I think a lot of my SDs will actually end up sharing bodies, because I don't have much space for big dolls. My most recent hybrid plan is a DiM Larina (close-eyed) on a Doll Legend MSD boy body to be my character Gunnar.

v If you were looking to create a hybrid, would you be more worried about the resin match or proportion/head fit?

 

^ Proportion. Absolutely and always. Resin can be blushed to match (in many cases), but if proportions are off ... bleh. Complete deal breaker, that.

< Speaking of which - entirely too many heads I need. But the RL project is progressing nicely, so more time for doll projects ahead! That last idea has quite run away with me.

v Do you have one project / story / background that ties all (or most) of your dolls together? Or does each have their own universe (of sorts)? Or something in-between?

 

^ I have a concept of one, at least. All my dolls are from the same universe, though they might not necessarily all know eachother. I am working on the finicky details, but at some point it'll be a wonderful universe/story worth talking about... maybe...

^ Yes, yes, yes, and yes. I don't have one story for all the dolls, but I do have four distinct groups (currently) that cover all the dolls that are here. The first one I started with is a group of my OCs, who have a shared world setting. They come from three different parts of it, but their stories do eventually intersect to a degree. The second one wasn't really meant to be a group, but I couldn't say no to a LittleFee, and he's been slowly (very, very slowly) accumulating a group of "imaginary friends." The third one was because I also couldn't say no to Soom's Teenie Gems, so I have a slowly growing group of those that are spirits tied to different elements. And the most recent one came from wanting to build up a group around a MNM head I bought ages ago (and that isn't even in the group anymore!); the character the head was based on was one I played in an online RP, so I started adding in both characters from his canon and characters he had connections to from that game. (Note that the character is still in the group, it's just the specific head that's been kicked out in favor of a different sculpt.)

v Do your dolls have any phobias?

 

^ Elliot have a fear of abandonment. Olive... nothing so far.

v How did your dolls' characters develop? If they have none, what do you see them as?

 

^ Well...my characters just kind of manifest themselves as I ponder ideas, I guess. Usually I have some starting point, like a specific doll or type of creature or name or place in my story, and I just let my brain go wild from there. I love making characters!

v What first drew you to BJDs? Did you play with dolls as a kid?

 

^ I played with dolls a lot as a kid! I've also collected Monster High, Ever After High, Barbie~ Anime figures were what really introduced me to BJDs, though! I first learned about them through Dollfie Dream, gradually did enough research to learn about Smart Dolls, and then from there I decided to join DoA and get into resin dolls!

v Have you ever commissioned any artwork of your dolls, or of your dolls' characters?

 

^ Nope! I have yet to commission anything. I would love to commission my favourite artists though, I should do that in future.

^ follows it, especially if it goes in a straight line. Then, call his/her brothers/sisters when things get iffy.

V when your BJDs' town turns suddenly empty, what do they put it down to?

 

^ everyone left Rina's little town because her boyfriend died. Well, not SO much because he died, but because he came back, as a zombie creature. Because people were afraid, and there was one hell of an assassin protecting him. She didn't sleep at first, but flew above him wherever he went, making sure nothing else could hurt him.

^ For Alisaie that is her twin Alphinaud. It goes both ways, of course.

v Do your dolls have any siblings? do you have them in resin form as well?

 

^ I have a lot of sibling characters! The most developed ones are my selkies, Ilya and Nikos (who are fraternal twins) and Sylvan, their younger brother. I currently have Ilya in doll form, but I have plans for all three. (Nikos will be a Dollzone Ivan in grey skin and Sylvan will be DZ Scarecrow Hal in white skin.)

v Do your dolls/characters tend to be procrastinators?

 

^ Mmm...not overall, but I have one that's relatively immortal, and over a thousand year old already...so he doesn't feel particularly compelled to hurry much.

v Have you ever had a non-limited doll on your list that you really, really wanted...but put off buying it for so long that the company broke your heart by stopping its production?

 

^ No, thank goodness. I actually had dreams of that happening and was pushed to buy.

v What doll is currently holding your attention?

 

^ Aelic, definitely. I like holding him, or even just having him sit near me. Just today I took him to some appointments I was a little apprehensive about. He's my baby~

^ all my frustration is caused by my zhen doll right now. I need to sell her which is stressful in itself plus wiping faceups I'd frustrating.

v where is the farthest you've traveled with your doll?
