^ Either when I opened my first's box (cliché, I know) or when I first discovered them, got a bunch of off-topic Obitsus and did the mods I'd been dying to try since I was 15. Oh, or maybe when I took Jo (nYID Bianca) with me to the craft store, the people there were so sweet! Or maybe my first meetup, we were meeting at a fellow DoA member's place and between the four of us there were so many dolls in that room they were literally claiming every single surface. I remember thinking "if I'm lucky, my place will look like that some day."

< Great. The one day I could have slept in, and I'm up already ... really, self? Oh well. At least I have plenty of daylight to change my crew into something presentable and take the state-of-the-union pic I've been wanting to do since the new head(s) came in.
Which reminds me, I need to order a bunch of wigs. Iple re-stocked the guy wigs in the colour(s) I need Too bad there's no open GO, that'd save a lot of trouble ...

v Did you buy/receive anything doll-related in the past weeks? Or are you waiting for something?

 

^ I'm waiting for wigs from Monique, which are supposed to be out for delivery today. I paid for my girls' faceups, so I guess that technically counts as "buying" something. They haven't been sent yet, so I'm still waiting for them (and keeping my fingers crossed that they make it home for the doll show since we're running out of time quickly).

< I have a bad feeling today is going to be a very long day.

V Have you ever modded a doll? What was the modification?

 

^ I haven't yet, the most I have planned right now is a dye job for my Kraehe

V Have you ever picked a doll because it reminded you of a specific person or fictional character? Who was it and did you style them that way?

 

^ I nearly picked up a YOSD (Kobalt created by Otherside) because it reminded me of a friend. Then, I came to my senses and bought a SD which appealed to me more.

V Your doll(s) got the sniffles. What does he/she/they do? Hide indoor with a stiff/warm drink or brave the world and share their woes (and more ) with everyone?

 

^ Poor Johnny is something of a pansy when it comes to illness. He prefers to stay home with a box of Kleenex and a good book when he's got the crud.

v If your doll were a potato chip, what flavor would he or she be?

 

^ Oh goodness, Christian would be something WEIRD, like sriracha and maple syrup.

< I ought to be thinking about lunch, not writing.

v Who would your favorite want to take out on a lunch date, and where?

 

^ Tyler would want to take his wife Sini on a lunch date. If it was too cold to eat outside, they'd probably go to their favourite vegetarian restaurant (Sini is vegan). If the weather's nice, their favourite lunch date is to pack sandwiches, juice and snacks and have a picnic at one of the local parks.

V What would be your favourite doll character's dream vacation?

 

^ Pros, they're very pretty, and look like real hair.
Cons, the price. They often only fit the doll they're made for. Price. Price. Price. A pain to make should you try and make them. Messy. And price. Dying is fun though. Takes days. Oh yeah, price.

V Wigs! What kinds of wigs are your favorites?

 

^ Curls and wavy wigs! I have a whole bunch of them I seriously think I should stop buying curvy wigs lol

v Your favorite clothing style?

 

^ ultra-casual like ripped jeans and old t-shirts, and steampunk. At the moment, my crew is still wearing 'normal' clothes because I haven't enough patterns to get to rip or upgrade any to steampunk level. I'm getting there...slowly.

V If your doll(s) had to rip something, what would it be?

 

^ The space-time continuum. For vastly different reasons, but the results would be the same.

< Sleep, beautiful sleep, I don't know what you are...

v Do any of your dolls have hobbies, or fandoms, of their own? Are they things that you are into, or things you aren't really into and had to research for them?

 

^ by and large, they are into the same things as I am. They just take them a bit further as they have no 'real life' issues which can impact on what they can do.

< There comes the rain...obviously, the sun decided not to turn up.

V Tree climbing competition! Which tree would your doll(s) choose and where would this tree be?

 

^ Inspired by my incoming doll, my dolls would climb the Kokiri Tree from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In particular little Link would climb it as high as he could and explore every little branch looking for rupees and treasure chests etc.

< I think the excitement that comes with a shipping notice is the best feeling in the doll hobby.

v Are your dolls outdoorsy? Would they participate in a tree climbing contest? Why or why not?

 

^ Katie would, 100%. She's a very outdoorsy person, grew up in the country and feels at home in the woods, so she'd be all for it. Mike would give it a shot, he's the sporty guy and a bit of a jackass. Lauren might join, just for fun, and probably do a lot better than she expected. Cali isn't in their story, but being an Elf she'd out-climb them all.
Chris wouldn't dare (she'd be having kittens about Katie too, come to think of it, but Katie wouldn't be dissuaded). Carlos has a prosthetic leg so he's out (he might be able to do it, but he doesn't think he can). Sven is not a tree-climbing sort of guy. Jo - nope. Not the right kind of setting for a ballerina-in-training. Mara would supply snacks and drinks for everyone and be the #1 spectator.

v Who is the most and least outdoorsy among your crew?

 

^ None of my dolls would be particularly outdoorsy. They is all city boys. And girls. Alex is most likely the least outdoorsy of all of them tho. Indoors is where he prefers to skulk.

V Your favorite is suddenly in a position where they have to go out and get themselves a job. What job would they like, and what to they actually end up doing?

 

^ Well, Ichigo is generally perceived as a child, so he would probably be that kid with the lemonade stand, or offering to mow lawns, and shovel walkways in snow. As for adults, Robbie has a pretty successful career as a web designer, and author. Avery has a string of bars and clubs, and Rowan works as a lifeguard and surf instructor during the summers.

< I have finally started putting things in boxes in preparation for my move.

v Has your favorite moved much in their lifetime (character-wise) or are they the sort who has mostly lived in the same place for their lifetime? If the latter, do they dream of moving elsewhere, or are they content with their place of residence?

 

^ My Venitu doesn't move much geographically. He occasionally travels to the 'other dimensions/worlds' to lend a hand in any ventures his 'Alien Mind/Body Brother' (hybrid Eloy) finds himself in. They have a strange relationship, they are both the same person without being the same. One can transform into the other in special situations and in other situations, they can keep their own body and they can meet in person. It is particularly useful for Eloy who is seen as of working age. My Venitu can help him with simple tasks while he tackles more complicated ones.

< I need to study more. Blast this reluctant brain.

V If you were thrown into the 'BJD Realm', which sculpt would you be and would you have a good relationship with your BJDs?

 

^ I'd probably be a Souldoll or Dollmore head on a Blossom Doll body. I think I'd have a pretty good relationship with most of my BJDs, they're generally an agreeable bunch and I made most of their clothes. XD The ones who are still waiting on their proper outfits might be a bit chippy, though. o_o;

< Now that I've determined a temporary sofa solution, I cannot get the old sofa out of here fast enough. SERIOUSLY. (I hate moving because of these things.)

v Your doll is off to take a weekend trip. What do they pack in their overnight bag?

 

^ I won't go through my whole crew, just Qwill. He'd pack half his wardrobe "to be covered for any occasion," and an empty suitcase just in case he picked up something (or more likely, several somethings).

v Who is the "shopoholic" in your gang?

 

^ well, my pukifee has a cat and she does a good job of terrorising a little alien.

< Headache...on the plus side, it's lounging time.

V Coffee time! Which coffee shop/Cafe would your doll(s) choose to relax in? And where would it be?

 

^ In one of the universes in which my dolls exist, there is a coffee shop called Dante's. It's in the lower levels of the post-apocalyptic city in which my dolls live, and owned by a vampire pretending to be a human pretending to be a vampire. An angel is the manager and an elf is a barista. They all know Alex.

V If your dolls were going to be animals, which would they be? And if you were to get animal BJDs to represent them in their animal form, which dolls would you get?

 

^ my twigling would be a sleepy lion, my feeple65 a moth with long and beautiful antennas, and my 5th motif would be something cuddly...a rabbit?

< I am so happy none of them can possibly read what I have just written above.

V Bed time. What type of 'nest'/bed do(es) your doll(s) go for when he/she/they wish to sleep?

 

^For some strange reason I make sofas for them (there are 6in various places in my room) and so there is a great likelihood they would stretch out on a couch and nap.
< I just want to lay back and read my book, why am I still on the computer?
v Would your dolls all eat at the same place or head off into different directions? what would they eat?

 

^ They'd all go in their own separate directions. Christian and Sebastian would probably go find some cozy little bistro, Oliver and his friends would squabble for 45 minutes before they finally went to someplace that has all-day breakfast, and Rei would try to find the place with the best bar. Oh, and Lorelei just wants a kid's meal with a toy and a funny straw, but she's a toddler. (I'm not going to try to figure everyone else out right now...that's just too many! XD)

< I keep feeling like I've gotten a lot done and nothing at all accomplished. What is this even.

v Your doll has an important dinner guest! Where would they go to try to make a good impression, and would they be able to manage making that good impression?

 

^katherine prepares and prepares. One of the Angels is visiting and can restore her angel status. Everything goes wrong, and she barely avoids blowing up the house with dinner. There is a formerly extinct species terrorizing the living room. Her gargoyle son has run away to notre Dame again and her reaper fiancé is likely flooding the place trying to shower. And the angel doesn't even come in, but Katherine kind of realizes that isn't what she wants, cause it would cost her her family.

<I just realized how ridiculous she gets...

V how would your character handle an important dinner guest?

 

^ they just wouldn't have a clue. They would deal with him/her/it as with anybody else. They would provide the food and the drink this particular being needs and see if they can get a tale or some sort of information about the wider world(s) from it/her/him. They don't get 'status' though they do get when someone has lots of learning/experience. They don't always know what to ask but they are always ready to listen and learn.

V Your doll(s) can choose their dinner guest. Who would they/he/she/it choose and why?

Jinx... Jinx would probably choose Rune or Louise (Kimbapchan's blonde boys xD)
JoJo would for sure invite Adonai... if I had him in doll form </3
Sally would invite her "friends" Elizabeth and Tsubasa... who're always there anyway
Tsubasa and Elizabeth would likely invite their mothers (yay ghost party!)
Ysabela would probably invite the twins... or her dead baby brother, who knows xD

v who is your oldest doll (character wise) and who is your youngest? (you get free magic cookies if you show a pic and/or share a connection between them!

 

^ Lucifer is my oldest character (and actually he's my second-oldest doll!) being the first angel created, Baby Alex is my youngest as he's my only real, actual child-doll. Though doll-wise he's also old. lol
They exist in the same universe...that's pretty much their connection. Alex won't technically ever meet Lucifer.

V Along the same vein, who is your newest character among your dolls? Which has been around the longest?

 

^ Newest as in newly created would be the Willow/Spring and Oak/Summer dolls I'm searching for sculpts for, newly figured out where they fit in the story is Leopold (I just bought his body /finally/ and he decided 'okay, I go here'). Oldest is Nek, without question, I came up with her way back in High School (she's been rehashed a few times as I'm trying to re-write her story, but her core personality has stayed the same), she cameos in everything.

< I agree with Thursday being Friday, I would much rather it be Friday, but then I feel bad for poor Thursday...

v What's your doll's favourite day of the week and why?

 

^I love the Saturday most because it is a day when I make my doll's photos - my little tradition

v Do you take your dolls with you on the vacation? Do you tke photos with them when travelling? Do yoy plan your vacation keeping your doll's photos in mind?

 

^ I have taken dolls on me with vacation, yes! Not all the time, but if there's opportunity/reason to do it, then it's lots of fun. I've taken big dolls with me to the beach, when I'm not traveling too far and will have a home base to keep him at. I've also been to Japan twice, taking small dolls-- once an MSD size, and this year a Yo-SD tiny. I've got a bad back, so weight is definitely something to consider if you'll be schlepping your luggage around a lot! But it can be so rewarding when you've got a great photo op & the doll happens to be in your bag, and *snap* you get to bring home a fun memory with your travel-gnome.

< Oof, I did too many chin-ups last night, and my shoulders now feel all rigid and bulked-up. It's kind of cool to watch them strain the seams of my shirts for a little while though. But oh man, could I use at least 6 hours of deep-tissue massage now.

^ Christian is definitely the "roll out of bed, drink coffee, go, actually opening eyes is optional" type. He's definitely not a morning person, and frequently comes into his classes looking like he slept on a park bench. (Both the classes he's attending and the classes he teaches.)

< I'm having a "opening eyes is optional" sort of day. Thank goodness the teenager is adept at coffee-making, because I couldn't manage it.

v Too fuzzy-minded to think of a new question, so passing it down: Does your doll character have a complicated morning routine, to get him/herself all spruced up to go out in public? ^I would say that the "roll out of bed, open eyes, drink coffee and go" would definitely be Willow. She might grumble a bit and you wouldn't want to talk to her before she finishes her first cup but she will begrudgingly be that type.

^ Using my two main storyline-dolls:
Alex can roll out of bed, drink coffee and go and be semi-functional.
John needs about an hour simply to wake up enough to make coffee, brush teeth, blink. He's not a morning person. He does care about his appearance but usually doesn't have the time or brain-power to do anything about it. Alex could give a crap what he looks like, his hair probably hasn't seen a brush in years. No mirrors anyway.

V How strict are you about your doll's appearance? Every part much match 100%? No eyes out of position? Do you spend a lot of time making sure no hair is out of place, or pull them out of the bag and call them ready?

^ My doll doesn't concern herself with humans or any other human-like being. As a goddess of the Earth, her hair is slightly messy due to the constant wind and creatures she is playing with or creating. She wears what she feels comfortable in, usually with something draping to allow small creatures to climb up onto her.

v What inspired your first doll's character?

^ This is going to sound so absurd, but I was playing around on a fighting game back in the '90s (I cannot remember which one, it was that long ago), and I was playing around in edit mode and did a black hair palate swap on Iori Yagami and liked it so much that Rei was born, and an entire story spun out from there. He evolved from there, but the black-white-and-gray wardrobe and bass guitar stuck around. When I discovered BJDs, Rei was pretty much the first doll I wanted home, and he ended up being my first whole doll. :3 (And now I have an Iori also, so yippee!)

v What's been your longest ongoing doll project?

 

^ probably my Saintbloom who is waiting for her tattoos for 2 years.

^ usually through their story. That's how JoJo and Sally got their names. Jinx was just the name of an old character, Jael was just a funny name my friend got with one of those memes so I stole it lol. The ghosts well, their names are relevant to either their time period (elizabeth) or what they are (tsubasa) Ysabela's name I had to hunt down xD I knew I wanted it to have an "el" or "ella" sound and I wanted it to be a little different with spelling so... xD

v is there a sculpt you've loved for ages but never gotten and probably never will? If so, what's the reason why? Or if not then what was the first sculpt you liked?

 

^ A couple of years ago, my answer would have been different but @Osaka helped me track down the impossible doll. So, current impossible doll is Luts Chiwoo. They are discontinued, and I desperately want one super default with Luts faceup, no modification at all, no other faceups. x_x All the ones I've found have been damaged, repainted, heavily modded, or their sale price is nearly double original market value.

< This migraine that keeps popping up when I need to DO things can stop any time now.

v Is there an impossible doll for you? One you adore but will probably never get? If so, why can't/won't you get them? If there is no such doll, who is the doll you would most like to buy right now, assuming you had the funds on hand.

 

^ my impossible doll would have to be a Lillycat Cerisedolls Kitty Jolie. Because even though I consider her my grail doll, I can't see myself getting her due to her price being nearly more than twice the price in my currency and limited ordering times.

V what is the weirdest thing you've done to or for your dolls?

 

^oh, probably the Breast reduction mod. Now, I don't mind, the female form is a beautiful one, but because of it, I had to look up a bunch of references. My laptop is out of comission, so my dad found me printing out pictures of topless women to base what I sculpt off of. That was a great way for him to finally ask about my sexuality.

V most awkward moment in the hobby?

 

^Probably the moments when people find out the dolls are anatomically correct. No one ever just takes your word for it, lol.

vHave you ever repainted/comissioned a faceup for a doll that you were thinking of selling? Did it work?

 

^ I have not, but it seems like a good idea in some cases.

^ Officially, my dolls' room is my home office, but they're really all over my house.

< I've been gone for a while, but the first Big Event of 2016 is now accomplished. Doll snow next weekend is Big Event number two.

V I'm stealing a previous question because I like it. What is the strangest/weirdest thing you've ever done to (or for) your dolls?

 

^Does dremelling open their face more so I can see their eyes better count? :P That or how crazy I went over the dollheart fukubukuro bag sale.... admittedly I made a ton of money selling what I didn't want

vDo you buy eyes and hair ahead of time or wait until your doll arrives?

 

^ These days I wait. You never know when the company suggested size is going to be way off, or if the eyewells are a shape that needs special eyes or the head is odd or not the color you were expecting....a million things can affect the ordering of eyes and wigs. So I put them in temporary eyes and wigs until I get what I really want and don't end up spending all the extra $$ on stuff that's not quite right. Plus I have extras, so they aren't bald and eyeless while they wait.

V When do you buy clothes for your dolls? Before ordering? After ordering while waiting? Or after the doll has arrived?

 

^After he has arrived, for the same reason as above for waiting on eyes and wigs. Plus the character I have planned for him may not be what he turns out to be. Usually he gets a homemade outfit that may be too big while he waits for another outfit that fits to be made or bought.
<This yoyo weather is creeping me out 80+ yesterday 60ish today.
v Which do you have too many of: eyes, wigs or shoes?

 

^ Eyes, by far. I have tons of leftover "default" eyes from every time I switch out to the ones I like, whereas I just have a few extra wigs to use when someone new arrives, and I don't even have shoes for everyone yet, much less extras. I need to do something about that, but replacing eyes and wigs are first on the list since I can't hide those with camera angles as easily as I can hide missing shoes.

< Two weeks now of the candle ceremony for my poor kitty, it's very sad but comforting to do something in conjunction with so many other people going through the same thing.

v Let's talk shoes! Do you have them for all your dolls? Are they going barefoot for lack of shoes? Or are the barefoot because that's their style?

 

^ I have a ton of shoes. The girls have most ... 90% are self-made though. I own three pairs of "everyday shoes" (real, actual BJD shoes), one pair of winter boots my sis gave me that were probably thrift store finds, and two pairs of pointe shoes that were actually keychains.

< Sick leave means doll time. On the subject of shoes, I think Carlos needs different ones ... he's already the tallest of the bunch, no need for him to wear the pair of shoes with the thickest soles. And I need to make his eyes already!

v Is there anything your dolls lack? Why this particular thing?

 

^ Reid lacks military boots because I can't find a 1/3 sized pair small enough for him, and all the 1/4 choices are too small. Scarlett and Élise lack shoes of pretty much every description because they both have enormous feet and all the cute 1/3 shoes are too small for them.

< urgghhhh.... Zera & Élise probably aren't going to make it home in time for the doll show, despite how long ago the faceup artist sent them. So much for priority shipping. At least Scarlett can wear Élise's dress. Also, the "invisible" doll stands were epic fail. I'm glad I have the old grip stands to rely on.

V Doll stands: Do you use them? What kind do you prefer?

 

^I have both the saddle and the waist grip kind and find different dolls need different stands. I have ones that just flop over if sat in the saddle stand and others that do well on it. So I prefer to have both available. Also I use a BBQ skewer as a stand for outdoor photos, it works well with long twist ties either hidden under clothing or photoshopped out.

<My dog Houdini'ed again and got out of the yard, I wish I could find out how she does it.

v Do any of your dolls have a kicky joint that moves when you least expect it (and scares the heck out of you?)

 

^ No, though my Venitu's arms tend to bend at the elbows at 90 degree. Very annoying.
