^ Honestly? My first wish would be to magically rehome about 2/3 of my current collection. Second would be to have all the clothes I've put on my wish list for Aubrey & Zera. third would be to have faceups exactly how I want on my blank dolls and the ones in need of makeovers.

V If you could magically become an "expert" at one doll-related skill, which would it be? (e.g. faceups, sewing, wig-making, sculpting, photography, prop-making, etc.) Mine would be faceups.

^ An SID Arvid or a sculpt that looks similar enough to him but works in less-than-70cm scale; a bunch of guy wigs (looking at you, Iple - the ones I want are out of stock in the colours I need) and more doll time. Mostly that.

v What (social / survival) skill does your favorite doll lack?

 

^ Self-awareness/the power of convincing. Everyone is a little blind, but Beliaer is purely naive. He loves musicals, melts over women's fashion, rolls in the flowers....and then wonders why ladies never take him seriously. Never won a date in his life.

< I need to find a job. Preferably before my bank account dries up. Bills won't pay themselves.

v What is your idea aesthetic in a doll? Any colour pallets/features/styles you desire?

 

^1) unlimited doll-funds. I wouldn't even feel guilty for spending it on dolls, cause that's all it can be spent on.

2) the ability to make perfect clothing for my characters.

3) face ups. Oh my god, thIs is what I need.

V is there a doll thing you do when stressed?

 

^ I like realistic dolls as opposed to stylized or anime-looking ones. I like realistic, modern "Western" clothing styles, or realistic historical clothing styles. As for colours, it really depends on the character the doll is meant to represent. I have dolls in "natural" skin tones ranging from pale to dark tan, hair colours from black to ginger to white blond and eye colours from pale blue to dark brown. I also have dolls with fantasy coloured skin, hair and eyes.

ETA// @Chameleon's question - I don't do doll things when I'm stressed. It's too dangerous for them.

V Do you have a doll you wish you hadn't bought?

 

^ Nope. The dolls I don't like are the ones I sell, so I have money to buy dolls I do want! And sometimes, I don't know if I like it or not until I have it. It's a cycle. The Circle of BJDs XD *cue music*

V If your dolls are fantasy-inspired and suddenly found themselves in reality, how would they handle it? Likewise if they're "real Human" inspired and were suddenly in a fantasy-esque world, how would they handle it? I'm hoping for hijinks!

 

^ The majority of my fantasy characters are adaptable so I think they'd be pretty safe dropped into our non-fantasy world. The few truly human and completely unaffected by or attached to fantasy dolls I have would react differently. Robbie would probably think he was having a nervous breakdown. Rowan wouldn't take it very seriously at all. Avery probably wouldn't even notice honestly. He's kind of oblivious to stuff that doesn't directly affect what he is trying to do RIGHT THIS MOMENT.

< I.. need to sew some things. Robbie has been sitting in his new t-shirt and socks sans pants for about a week.

v How would your LEAST adaptable doll do if they were dropped down into an alternate universe where EVERYTHING is different?

 

^ He would panic, shear bloody panic. Poor Dom, the little Lightning Faerie wouldn't be able to decide if he wanted to explore everything, try and take over this strange new world, or just freak out and fly around screaming for a few minutes. And then he'd need to explore. And then he'd need to try and take over the world (and fail, he has a Brain complex? Except someone would have to take him seriously for that...)

^ Indifference (outwardly at least). She's a stage person, she'd make a performance out of it.

v Do your dolls' characters have hobbies? If so, what are they?

 

^Saturday ADORES fashion and is constantly trying to amass a gigantic wardrobe so she never has to wear anything twice!

<Do I want a Dearmine doll or not? Agrippa is like, "GET ME I'M CUTE!" but I've felt that way about a majority of dolls lately. And I pretty much want anthros just to be animal crossing neighbors with my kikipop/realfee hybrid..... I should make her animal crossing related things for funsies...

vDo you have any companies where you can't seem to stop looking at every new doll? Which ones, and why?

 

^ IMPLdoll, because I love the direction they've been going in with their sculpts and body designs for the past couple of years.

^ Fairyland. I'm not a big fan of their sculpting aesthetic, and their bodies drive me bonkers. They're too "cute" for me. Give me my rugged men and quirky girls any day of the week.

^ Right now my Ringdoll K is a "just this one" doll....because I built a new story/universe around him and of the "characters" he's the only one I have as a doll. And since the other characters are just in the beginning stages of existence, he'll be the only one for a while, if not ever.

^ Tyler is my "just this one" Iplehouse doll (the one pictured in my avatar). The only reason I chose nYID Oscar is because of his sweet face that is so perfectly Tyler, but I absolutely hate the lack of poseability of Iplehouse bodies. They're about as flexible as a brick haha. I'd have a horde of Iplehouse dolls if they posed halfway decently, as I love many of the face sculpts, but as it stands right now, Tyler is going to be my one and only.

< I need more coffee. Also the doll stands were epic fail. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now, not that I'll likely have to worry about it overmuch since my girls probably won't be home in time for the doll show anyway. At least Scarlett can wear Élise's dress...

^ I do have a "just one". I don't do alternate universe dolls or fandom dolls and yet, I have Edward Elric which breaks both of those rules. I could never ever give him up, but other attempts at fandom dolls have failed badly, and the dolls ended up being reshelled to original characters.

^ I have a mix of "just this one". My Switch Soseo NS, it's the only Switch sculpt I will ever get. I even had another Switch Soseo MB but I found out I prefer my NS sculpt so I will use the body to hybrid it with a Little Rebel Brown skin head and that will be my last SD because I definitely prefer tinies.

^ I have a double "just this one": A stylized Luts (hybrid, former practise) head who doesn't fit in with the realistic others, who is my only Star Trek doll in SD scale. I might mod another one, but I was never planning on going there at all.

< Star Trek seems to be the theme of the day. My LARP crew is on an away mission, and one of our students' topic was Science Fiction and utopia, Star Trek being one of his favorite examples. Might recruit him someday.

^ Honestly, I'm not a big fan of hybrids, so I don't have a "dream hybrid". I would probably like to have Iplehouse heads on decent bodies like IMPLdoll or 5Stardoll though.

^ A lot. ^///^ 10 at the moment, though one is waiting for her body to be paid off and arrive. I also have a floating body, because I can't find a head I like for it. It would be more if I had more money, since I'm wanting a bunch of artist heads.

v If you have floating heads, how do you keep them before they get a body?

 

^ I have a box of heads. They all hang out in the box until they get bodies. Or, until I switch them out, because I have a lot of "extra heads" as well.

V How do you transport your dolls? Do you have "doll bags"? What are they?

 

^ I do have actual doll carriers made for the purpose; a bunch of them in various sizes. If I have to transport more than three or four dolls, though, I have huge plastic waterproof boxes and a gigantic roll of bubble wrap. These boxes hold five 70cm dolls easily, and I've got two of them. On shorter trips (such as from home to the office) I'll put a smaller doll in my briefcase. Liam (Lumedoll Blaze) can fit in my handbag lol.

V Do you travel with your dolls? Have you had any interesting encounters while travelling with them?

^^ I have a huge hard side suitcase that will hold six of my big boys and most of my MSDs and little OT dolls. Even long tall Thaddeus fits standing straight in it. I have facecaps and foam cushions that fit across their bodies to keep everyone in place. I have only used this method driving to a meet. I definitely wouldn't use it traveling any other way. I have a second soft side that I use when carrying fewer dolls.

^ Well both actually. They're all set characters but Ichigo is adaptable and it's actually in his character for his appearance to change on a pretty regular basis.

^ I always have something in mind. It's my #1 criterium actually, I only buy dolls that I have some sort of idea about. I tried to limit myself to OCs from a story, but two others have snuck in (one bringing along a new story of her own, even though she recently announced that she's a minor character in the main story too, albeit one I wasn't going to shell, and one other who might mean I'll need at least three more elves) and I'm open to floating heads for "NPCs", too.

< Slept for 12 hours. Feeling marginally like a human being again. I need to prepare stuff for work tomorrow but I'm not sure I can even think straight. Some dolly sewing might help.

v I tend to think in RPG terms when I describe my doll plans (see "NPC" above). Any weird habits you have with your dolls that hint at your other hobbies? Alternatively, any overlap between your doll hobby and other hobbies?

 

^Im hyper-critical of posing, because I used to be a figure skater. I can't tell you how many times I've tried getting my dolls into positions they'd never have to assume in real life, because it drives me crazy if they can't.

V I liked this question! any weird habits you have with your dolls that hint at your other hobbies? Any overlap between your doll hobby and your other hobby.

 

^ I'm a theatre person, and my university required that we all be well-rounded in the technical and behind-the-scenes stuff, so I get a little weird about casting (in the theatrical sense) and dolls "fitting the character" as I wish to interpret it. I also get weird about costuming and props and staging. I like dolls better than actors, really. They don't pout or carry on if they're feeling neglected. But the theatre stuff always has an influence. I started doing face-ups because I wanted them to look "in character," I started making wigs when I couldn't find ones to suit, and so on. The characters I choose to have hint at all my other weird hobbies, though. XDD

< I really don't have a lot of energy today. I should try to fix that.

v Since I like prop and furniture-making, and obsess about it: What is that one prop or furniture piece you would really love to find for your dolls?

 

^ a whole mountain. SD size. That I can open and adapt to their needs. . With houses/hideouts that can be opened like doll houses for me to 'decorate' etc.

V If your doll(s0 had to move to another planet/country, which one would he/she/they choose?

 

^ Country is a good question, I'm not even sure if they live in an actual country or a fictional one. (Story is being re-written yet again and that's one of the points I'm stuck on). Either way it's probably somewhere in Europe, and they'd likely relocate to Canada instead.

v Based on the last q, do your dolls live in a real country (or one based on a real one)? Or is it all fictional?

 

^ They live in somewhat of an alternate universe, where the Earth formed a little differently and different countries took control at different periods of time; it's somewhat of the Steampunk/Victorian mix but is more of a mix of the 1600's rather than straight mid-late 1800's, and has base theoretical of a sorts Magic just being discovered and combined with the technology as a result of one of the most recent empire's coming to an end.

< Speaking of, why must I be determined to be completely accurate in the aspects of travel? I abhor math and vectoring with a passion, but I find myself researching the rates of travel of different methods of transportation and how weather and cargo would affect them and basing my timelines and the size of the world/countries/different landmarks and cities on the possible amount of time and routes taken it takes a few of those methods to make it to their destinations...

^ They are living in a fictional country only because I don't really want to state their ethical background/nationality and make everything logical XD Their backstories and culture is more closer to Asian countries since I am a Asian myself. In detail wise I only figured that it's a modern Asian country with fantasy creatures

^ Not really ... I tried, but in the end I went back to their "default". (Katie, my IH Bliss, looked adorable on her default body, but was supposed to be tall and skinny as opposed to short and curvy ... so Bianca is back on that body and Katie got a Granado Nuevo, less cute but a lot more herself.)
Most of mine I can put in any kind of style and call it a costume - they're theatre/opera folk so I have a ready-made excuse to put them in anything I like without having them break character

^ if they had a shortlist, life would be easy. . One wants the sea, the second high mountains and the third a nice town with great shopping opportunities and warm weather so that she can wear hot pants. .

^ So long as wine is still a readily available staple and violins are still in existence, Promith wouldn't care. The idea would probably come to him that he could use his knowledge of the future to try and gain a bit of status, but he'd be too lazy to either actually put that knowledge to use, or do anything other than lounge in luxury once he had used it.

< I should be attempting to be productive and pull the shelves out of the garage to start putting the Library together... But I dun wanna move...

v Flipping the question: Your favourite doll character has been transported 200 years into the future. How would they react?

 

^ Tyler is chill about mostly everything, so I don't think he'd have too difficult a time adjusting. Probably the first thing he'd do is try to find out if they'd invented technology that allows blind people to drive.

< I only have to survive today and tomorrow, and then I get to escape the madness for a week and two days.

V Your favourite character is alone on an island. Assuming food, water and shelter are already available, what three things would they most want to have with them?

 

^ Hm... Uriah would want a guitar with an endless supply of strings, etc, whisky, and a pretty girl. In fact, that probably sounds really good right now. -Looks over at him sitting alone because his friends and props are in storage-

< So excited that I have another doll body coming! After a chaotic six months, it feels so good to be browsing the forums while enjoying good food and silence. Getting married was ... crazy, and now I feel proud of myself for having overcome not having time for my creative pursuits... and come out sane the other side! Today is full of possibilities! Yay!

v Have you ever taken a hiatus--intentional or not--from the hobby? What brought you back?

 

^ yes. And one time I actually tried to leave for good. But then I looked at all the clothes I still had and how much trouble it would be to sell everything and I thought "maybe I should just have ONE doll to make use of the clothes" but picking only one is hard! XD

v how long have you been in the hobby, and are you still as excited about it as you were when you started?

 

^ I've been in the hobby for about ... 3 1/2 years or so, counting from when I ordered my first doll. I'm still excited, but less nervous ... if that makes any sense. I did go on an unplanned hiatus for a while too, but somehow I snapped out of it and never did I plan on leaving the hobby. I couldn't part with my dolls if I tried.

< She who never irons her RL clothes just ironed a bunch of medieval/fantasy outfits for the neighbors' girls. Here's hoping we'll actually get around to going to a faire at some point!

v One more because now I'm curious (and confused and not sure if I should be surprised at how long or how short I've been in the hobby): How long have you been in the hobby, and are you still as excited about it as you were when you started?

 

^ I've been in the hobby slightly over seven years, and no I'm not as excited about it as I once was.

< @Jany - I iron my boys' clothes all the time, but I try to buy clothes for myself that don't require regular ironing.

V passing the question on because I'm too tired to think of a different one. How long have you been in the hobby and are you still excited about it like you were in the beginning?

 

^ I started the hobby 2 1/2 year ago. I feel less the need to buy new dolls. I am still excited to see new sculpts and new sculptors though.

^ It's a pretty mixed bunch as far as who goes for what snacks, but Christian is grabbing a beer and tortilla chips and either salsa or guacamole.

v Because of the deadline yesterday: Your doll performed their civic responsibility and did their taxes! What would they blow their tax return on?

 

^ Everything. I'm not sure any of my dolls are responsible enough to do their own taxes. Most of them live on the fringe of society anyway, and probably don't. They suck. I have to do it....they should too.
