V what's your next big doll plan?

 

^ I always forget myself by Christmas. I mail a wishlist off to my brother and then worry about making things for my family and making sure the flesh child and my brother have something nice under the tree for their dolls. ._.;; My mom is pretty adamant that I get a Christmas Doll, though, so she makes sure there's one under there.

< I need to get cracking on Christmas knitting NOW.

v Keeping the holiday theme going, do your dolls get their own holiday decorations? (jack o'lanterns, menorahs, Yule Tree, etc.?)

 

^ yeah, I recently made some sweet skull masks for Halloween.
く I really find it funny that my cat will ignore ne all day but when I go to do something craft wise or doodle wise she sits right in the middle of it.
v Have you ever had a moment where you thought you had 'done goofed' with your doll but he turned out to be fine?

 

^ Not with my doll but a friend's. I was restringing her dollzone Mo because 1. he's super old and his strings were really loose and 2. he always stood a little wobbly so we thought one side had more elastic tension than the other.
Right after I finished my friend noted that he was still a little wobbly on his feet and since he was finally naked for the first time in 5 years, we noticed that one of his leg peanuts was upside down. I was completely embarrassed until we realized that it wasn't my fault. I had restrung him exactly the way his pieces were before... meaning that Dollzone had sent him that way. To make things worse when we flipped around the peanut piece it wouldn't fit properly. We think the piece wasn't sanded properly so it's just like a few millimeters off, but enough to make his leg not bend or stand smoothly. We decided to keep it the way it was supposed to be anyway.

< So much to study for. Art History class... you're supposed to be a Gen Ed. Why I gotta memorize so many dates?

V Do you give your dolls gifts for Christmas (if you celebrate)? If so, what kind of things do you get them?

 

^ No, but sometimes I'll make new Christmassy outfits or buy ornaments that suit them as props instead!

< So much sewing to do by Friday... and then, we feast!

v What Halloween costume would your doll wear?

 

^ Cecil loves the holiday season -- because he's that one guy who cooks the HUGE fabulous meals for everyone and invites half the world over just because he loves having people around. Also he makes the best turkey and dressing on the planet. As for Halloween...Dave would have too much fun with that.

< So. Effing. Aggravated. Right. Now.

v Is there anything in this hobby that just rubs you the wrong way?

 

^ elbow channels. They are just too tight for the strings. I am considering making the holes bigger, though, really, it isn't something I wish to do. I am not even sure I've got the tools for it.

< I wish I could sleep. Blast this flu. I was meant to have a flu-free year this year.

V what inanimate object your doll(s) can not do without?

 

^ Promith cannot survive without his violin. And technically the garden statuette that resides near the back fountain in Leopold's courtyard(Leopold has some concerns about that...). Kle needs his necklace, he'd be devastated if he lost it. Leopold needs paper and ink, something to write with or write on that's semi-permanent and wont get destroyed too easily, and endless supplies of it. Bernard never goes anywhere without a compass, whether he needs it or not. Hmmm... And Lavaiou would literally be nothing without his masquerade mask, so I guess that counts. Same with Amadeus and his Pawn Shop, though he would argue the 'inanimate' concept on either of those two.

< Why did I get extra espresso in my coffee today? Now I'm not going to sleep until Sunday...

v So most doll(character)s have a preference for tea or coffee or etc, but what would happen if your character who least liked coffee/caffeine unintentionally ingested a decent quantity of it?

 

^ Ignoring the littlest ones, because they shouldn't have caffeine anyway, Oliver doesn't do caffeine. If by some horrible mischance he were to get caffeined up, he would probably be a loud, aggressive, irritable little punk, stay up way too late playing videos games, throw a screaming tantrum when it is pointed out that he's up way too late, then finally pass out and sleep until noon. (Any resemblance between Oliver and any actual teenagers who live with me and should avoid caffeine is purely deliberate.;D )

< 5:30 AM is far too early to be awake. Yep, too early. ::drinks more coffee::

v Since it is Friday here, does anyone have weekend doll plans, crafting or otherwise?

 

^ Yes, definitely! I want to redress my boys and take some pics. Hope I also will have enough time for blushing.

^ I'm hoping the weather will cooperate long enough for me to get more work done on Crow...I have a photoshoot I'd like to try, and he needs to be at least finished from the front for it....

V Do you have any dolls that started out following your "Plan" for them, then ended up completely different?

 

^ my Twigling was going to be all beads and nothing much else (which was great because I had a lot of beads at that time). She soon started to climb the fashion pole with hot pants, t-shirts, a wild wig (and some more wigs...), boots (lots of boots, doc martin style), and now I am making a pattern for a fitted vest. I am thinking 'tight dress' at some point.

< okay, I am banning coffee from 10am onwards.

V which of your doll(s) would come with you if you opted for a walking holiday?

 

^ I'd love to take Key (MD Ryu). But thinking practically, weight-wise, probably either my DC Lance or DZ Megi (both incoming, neither yet named =P )

< NaNoWriMo starts in a month! And I think my cousin is actually going to attempt it this year too ^.^

v Which of your dolls is the health "nut"? Which one couldn't care less?

 

^grim's The one who doesn't care. For one thing, hes already dead, for another thing, he can only replicate a toxin if he first imbibes it. This means he literally spends his time getting bitten by venomous things and drinking poison, so he can power up. Our resident health nut is honestly probably Frost, who is also dead but shush. They're the kind of parent to panic because what IS the proper vitamin for an angel/reaper hybrid? Especially when she's a growing teenage girl? And when is she supposed to need to reap souls, if ever? They really care about taking care of their kid, and do the same thing with their own health, and their boyfriend's.

< this is satisfying. My laptop is functional once more.

V which of your dolls, if any, would want dolls of their own?

 

^ my pukifee. Though she prefers being with 'live' resin people.

V Does your doll prefer to eat alone or in company?

 

^ Jes prefers company meals. Preferably small ones although she'll do big get-togethers if needed.

v How many dolls are on your wishlist? How often does your wishlist change?

 

^ Whoops, way too much for both questions. I add to my wishlist then resize it, add to it again and so on.

< Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs are definitely the supreme popcorn.

v when you look at your wishlist and have to resize, what is your criteria for shortening it (price, how much you like the sculpt, clothing availability etc)

 

^ *snicker* I never have to resize my wishlist. My wishlist is exactly one doll long. (Although ngl, the new Bermann tempts me...)

^ Osaka! Because Osaka. The similarities are alarming. In 11+ years, I think the only time it hasn't been Osaka was about a seven-month stretch this year when it was Alan Rickman as Snape. @n@ But I missed seeing myself, as it were, so back came Osaka.

< Haaaa, 4:30 in the morning is even worse than 5:30. I love you so much, insomnia.

v If you do change your avatar up frequently, do you like for them to follow a theme?

 

^I planned on following a theme and having all my chameleons eventually become my avatar (the tiny one from before is no longer with me, but I have her beauty of a brother and a lovely panther chameleon. The problem was that the facepaint I did just looked so cool.... I do intend to change it once I order one of those reptiledoll tinies to paint up like my girl (and maybe two more to paint up like my boys)

< i am so tempted by Bermann! All that's holding me back is that I haven't yet seen the body...

V passing this down: to those of you that change your avatar frequently, is there some kind of theme you follow?

 

^ Ash my first doll has usually been my avatar but since Aalon is his demon-side I decided to let him be my avatar for a while. So a few times I used my french braid photos when my colorful hair looked particularly great but it's mostly Ash. It's a B&W Aalon right now.

< Coffee jar is empty need to go and get some ground for tomorrow. Can't forget!!!

v How do you get your dolls to meets?

 

^ I pack em up in their doll carriers (complete with straps & pillows & facebubbles), then put my ass on the bus/subway and off I go. If it's a walking-distance meetup, then I like to get more extravagant with the size/number of dolls I can carry, because I just pop the big doll bags into my little wheelie shopping-cart, and then there's also room for a couple bottles of wine.

< Sometimes I wish I was capable of selling even one of my dolls, so that I could make room for new ones! There's a lot of lovely modern dolls I might like to have, if only I had more space here. But on the other hand, it is also really cool having a collection of dolls that're considered 'oldies', and many of them are no longer in production. Still, ahh, room for a couple more SD17s and EIDs would be nice.

v Do you find it easy to sell dolls? Or can you not part with them?

 

^ So hard! I've been struggling with even selling *just* bodies that I don't like/want. I don't know if I could actually part with a head. @n@

v Any new doll releases that you're really excited about, even if you have no intention to buy?

 

^ Dollzone Penny. She is MSD size so I am safe. I think she is lovely. There are more recent doll releases but she is the only one I could live with. The steampunk/dystopian selling point hasn't been lost on me. But I need to be strong against temptation. Anyway I have 2 new boys to clothe and a lot more resin people waiting for new outfits I promised I'll make.

^Bermann! I mean, I can get a blue Bermann for midnight, or a pale Bermann for Euphony, or multiple Bermann....

^ For the first time in YEARS I can actually say yes, and it is -- naturally -- Bermann. My jaw hit the floor when that announcement came out. I am far too cheap to shell out for one of the originals but a new one...it is a distinct possibility. Don't have a clue what the character would be, though...

< GOD I'm cold. However, being cold will not stop me from drinking this excellent chocolate malt from Sonic.

v Wig preferences! Fur, fiber, mohair, what?

 

^ My normal preference is for synthetic fiber. I would love to own a couple human hair wigs though.

v If your favorite doll were completely unstrung, and you could only keep one piece except for the head, which piece would you choose to keep?

 

^ the neckpiece.

^ Eyeses. I love beautiful eyes, and I love eyewells that show them off to their best possible extent.

^ Chrissie might. She'd mostly (ab)use it to mask what's really going on in her life / head, though.

< Dat kat. Strolls out to casually beat up the place's most vicious stray cat, then heads home for a snack and plenty of cuddles, looking like the cutest, most innocent fuzz ever. I got your number, kitty boy.

v Fall is finally here! Which is your doll's favorite season, and why?

 

^ Spring because of all the flowers and the longer days. If they could stay in Spring all the time, they'd love it.

< Who the heck dreamed up those formal uniforms? All I'm seeing is quilt lines, and I haven't even started sewing yet.

v Ever had a project you really wanted to do, but were apprehensive about? How did it turn out?

 

^ Lots. Most recent one I literally just did yesterday - the modding of my third Ringdoll K head, which I only bought so I could mod it. I opened his eyes a little, carved his mouth out to be wider and smiling slightly, and added teeth to make it look like he's biting his lower lip. I'm not done, but so far I'm happy with it.

I was dreading this, because my first attempt at adding teeth did not go well and I have never changed a mouth position before. I was pretty sure I'd ruin the head (but I have two more! I have no intention of ever modding....), so I'm happy it turned out ok. So far anyway.

V Passing the question on as I am interested. Ever had a project you really wanted to do, but were apprehensive about? How did it turn out? Extra special bonus for pics.

 

^ Bevelling out my ED Yuan's neck hole so she could fit on her then-body. No pics since it was utterly unspectacular (also, messy) - but it was my first mod ever and involved a dremel, so I was a bit nervous. Apart from that ... I don't know. Aside from my Bajoran practise head, all I'm ever doing by way of modding is small stuff like finger separations and fine-tuning other stuff like the opened eyes on my still-blank FPL Siean head. Looks like I need to mod more.

bleargh. I'm already tired of this formal uni stunt and I haven't sewn a single stitch ... apart from the test run, that is. All I want to do is run off and play with my dolls, wedding be damned. But I bought all the fancy fabrics so I guess I better use them.
On the other hand, what I do feel like is (finally) doing Siean's faceup ... she's been floating around blank for years and she's much too lovely for that.

^ Sleep. . I am pleased, though. I used the latest pattern to make my boy some trousers.

^ Kiyo would LOVE to be a dashing adventurer a la Indiana Jones. There's even canon art of that. It's kind of amazing.

^ Mine is pretty easy to figure out =_= plus I have three dolls who are Batman.

^ Audrey likes most animated films, but "The Last Unicorn" is her very favorite and she will watch it multiple times in a row, until someone can convince her to come out of her room and do something else. Severus's favorite is "Harry Potter and the Biased Perspective" (in his words), mostly because he sits and makes rude, scoffing noises throughout.

< Ah, illustrated "Chamber of Secrets," you are my new favorite. @u@ It doesn't help that it's one of my favorite books in the whole series.

v Does your doll have a least-favorite movie?

 

^ I think Val dislikes romances in general (he'd laugh at Jacks death in Titanic). Lyra gets annoyed by documentations about history, Asuka doesn't like any part of the Saw films, Nicolai and Yuri hate Bollywood films, Anju dislikes romances too (comedy-romances especially) and Daniel hates every film that has bad animation it it (like 'fire and Ice', that film about dragons...).

v If you had the chance to get a coupon for either a handmade wig, a handmade dress/suit or two pairs of handmade eyes, how would they look and why would you pick them instead of the others?

 

^ Definitely a coupon for a custom outfit/dress/suit since my first doll is apart of an organisation and I want to have her black and white uniform ready for when she is complete otherwise. (Its more like a leotard with long sleeves, shorts and attached face mask).

< I guess bit by bit she is coming together! Hopefully I can get some eyes for her this weekend~

v Is there anything that you would have to make yourself for a doll because it only exists in their character universe?

 

^ Not really because it only exists in their character universe, but I'm sketching up some clothes and eye ideas that I haven't seen anybody else make exactly the way I envision it.

< I'm so excited about getting my first doll but I'm nervous that once he's here I'm gonna regret it (I won't but that's some weird worry I always have????

v When creating a personality and story for your BJD, do you ever include elements from any celebrities or important figures you know?

 

^ No. I don't care for celebrities. Don't watch interviews or follow them on twitter so I have no idea what any of them do or like. I don't like making dolls based on characters from movies and tv series, so no minimees either. The only person my dolls might take from, in personality, is me.

v have you ever given up on owning a certain doll because you couldn't make them how you envisionned them?

 

^ nope, I usually like them regardless. I won't get them if I don't like their sculpt as it is without makeup.
＞ moving sucks, I hope my family has enough decency to be careful with my stuff. I've seen the way they sling stuff onto the truck. I've got my eye on them.
v do you have a doll that tends to get dirty more often than your others?

 

^ Not really. And any "dirt" my dolls have is usually just from their dark clothes. I do have one who gets disheveled when I'm not looking. Every time I take him off the shelf he's a wreck. I put him back nice, why can't it last?!

V What makes your favorite doll's character just lose it/get really really angry?

 

^ Christian probably loses it the worst when people are being willfully stupid/oblivious/reckless. He has a serious case of being the older brother, and has some rather high standards for people to keep up with his train of thought. He's a shouter and a thrower-of-things when he gets mad. He's got infinite patience for people who are genuinely less observant or maybe slower in making connections, though.

v What's the thing that makes your favorite impatient?

 

^ My favorite is and always will be Ash and his co-ego Aalon, he get impatient with Evz who he loves dearly but who can be pushy and is needy at times. When Evz gets really needy and pouty, he gets the opposite of what he wants. Instead of Ash's cuddling and consoling he gets a cold shoulder which only makes matters worse. Complicated twins are fun.

< Hope the humidity will cooperate for a while today - I need to seal stuff.

v Who is your most happy-go-lucky of your dolls.

 

^ This here lady.

She seems to live by the motto "stress is caused by giving a fuck, so I'm not going to make that mistake". It does drive the others crazy at times.

< New quilting foot ROCKS MY SOCKS. No use for doll stuff, but boy is this going to make a difference for the next uniforms!

v We all know how it goes: You buy something, only to have it nicked by your dolls. Has it ever happened the other way round - you bought something for your dolls that you ended up using (for) yourself?

 

^I once bought a pocketwatch for one of my dolls forever ago, and it ended up being my favorite necklace for a time. Oh well! Haha

< So I have this doll, gorgeous thing, I waited MONTHS for her and really it was a torturous wait, up until the very second I got her....but when I did, I realized she's not for me. Thing is she's GORGEOUS but in person its not something I want in my collection. Aaaaggg but because she's so limited and I got her from the artist directly, its hard to let her go. ;-;

vHave you ever had a doll that you looked forward to for a long time disappoint on arrival? What did you do?

 

^ Nemo, probably. One of the dolls I'd really wanted since starting the hobby was a pukipuki. I just adored them and all their little option parts. I eventually broke down and bought one off the market place...and don't get me wrong, the doll is lovely, but I dislike her size...she also kinda just sits there with no one behind her and it kinda makes me sad. She's had multiple names/characters, and eventually she became Nemo because it means no one in Latin.

< Gao, I hate this "moving-not moving" thing we're stuck in right now. It's stressful and I can't handle it. *flails*

v Have you ever had an "I can't handle this" moment in this hobby?

 

^ cotton pads. I bought them for my dolls' face-ups. Then I discovered that cotton was a good medium for essential oils, especially in a small box that could be carried everywhere.
EDIT: OOOPS! OKAY, NEW ANSWER: One of my boys' elbows' channels aren't wide enough for the string. I just don't know how Dollzone succeeded in putting it through. I've had to use a thinner one and I just KNOW I'll have to mod the channels because the string I had to use is just too thin. Just now, I cannot handle the idea of modding him.

< Well, I'm starving AND I haven't resized my doll's trousers' pattern as I had planned.

V If your doll needed some peace and quiet, where would he/she/it find it?

 

^ Peace and quiet around here is totally relative but if Dave needs 'peace' he plugs into his headphones. 'Quiet' drives him absolutely insane, there has to be SOME noise going on somewhere.

< Okay, head, stop it. Stop hurting. I'm tired and I want to go to sleep so I'm feeding you painkillers and I expect you to listen.

v What's your next doll project?

 

^ It's a race to see what gets here first. I have Professor Snape's head on order, my Pipos Raoh head incoming at some point, and a project body on the way soon. The project body is going to get heavily tattooed, possibly dyed first if I'm feeling bold, and going on one of the floating heads. Professor Snape and Catboy don't have dedicated bodies yet, so they'd just be face-ups. In the meantime, I'm still working on brooms and always knitting. We're in a damp stretch, so re-doing face-ups is a bit more tricky. So, killing time is the current doll project, I suppose.

< Bodies. Bodies, bodies, bodies. My kingdom for some bodies...

v How do you pass the doll-time while waiting for shipping notices?

 

^ writing. My goal is to have a solid one shot for each doll once they get here, with the exception of Tacet. She only gets a body once I'm done NaNoWriMo.

V what's your most ambitious doll project so far?

 

^ Lukas is, was and always will be my most ambitious doll project. I will edit with project link Edit: here.

^ putting my Dollzone Gray back together. . I never thought that finding the right strings was going to be THIS difficult. Some store cans in the event of a cataclysm, I'll be storing strings in the event of a doll-disaster from now on.
