I would make the pattern with newspaper! It seems like a pretty simple pattern. Put your doll down on a piece of newspaper and trace out the body and legs part. Then you can look at this tutorial to find out how to do the collar and arms! ^_^ If you use stretchy material it should work just fine, any weird shapes or seams would come out when the material stretches.
I'm really struggling to find fabric, I've been to half a dozen fabric shops today but none of them had anything Halloweeney I could use for a dress. On the bright side though I have fabric for some stockings and some foam sheets for the little wings
Looking at the pattern, where I think you would consider the waist on the center back piece falls right between the letter 'r' of center and the 'B' of back, if that is clear. You basically just sew the 2 back pieces together from the crotch part up to where the waist would fall so you can close it in the back. Hope that helps.
Regina in an enormous wig (8/9 is too big) and her dress pinned up. I do believe it does need a blouse as I have faked one on the rt hand pic. Maybe some scarves and more bangles and bit of ribbon? Amelia's dress cut out. I wish I had had bright yellow lining on hand but we will have subdued gray instead.
Just as an update. My materials are gathered! I have a nifty stash of fabrics and colours... not sure exactly which ones I'm using yet, but I have them. There's also fake leather to use for making the belts and such, and metal stamping rivets to use for the belts and such. Also will be making goggles and jewellery, possibly a hat for her in this. Because of the fact that the inspiration for the Steampunk outfit is coming from my head, and the fact that I don't use patterns... I won't be able to post them for those three requirements of this.
@Brigitte: Thank you, your outfit looks so cute! I love the fragmentated look @E-Beth: Beautifull dress! ^^ Today I sewed the dress. Of course the lace, collar, etc will be added later. It doesn't even close in the back yet Sewing project progress by sodabeentjes, on Flickr I have also decided that I'll make shoes (I think ballerina's) in the same fabric as the dress. With some decorations on top, and I found a beautifull pendant that would look great with the dress, so I'll be adding that too ^^ I haven't figured out yet what to use for wings and headband or crown. I think I like the idea of an elve-like headdres, like this. But I don't know yet how to make such a thing (let alone in this scale) and it might look weird with her bangs (?) And it still had to look girly.
E-Beth the dress look nice. Sodabeentjes. The dress looks good so far and the elfisch headdres idea looks sweet.
Joining in! A bit late, but I already have a halloween outfit started x3 This is Gem, she is a DDoll Lia. DSC_0566 by Darque91, on Flickr For her I'm making a of fairy outfit Bad drawing made in paint. Will be adding details to the dress as I go along.. Petal skirt by Darque91, on Flickr Here are my main materials! I don't have a better picture of the green one.. As for the glittery one, I did want white but there was only gray left :/ DSC_0566 by Darque91, on Flickr I do not have any progress pictures yet though..
I've never done this before but I'm very interested and excited to join in. The sculpt is the Impledoll Adela. She's being shipped todayish so no pictures now but she will be here in time for the final one. Heres a link to her website if interested. She will be in tan. (Let me know if I have to have her actually here to participate, I will understand.) I'm thinking a fuzzy orange pumpkin hoodie very similar to (but sewn): http://img3.etsystatic.com/000/0/6151302/il_fullxfull.260553303.jpg And a flushed out short skirt similar to: (possibly shorter) http://www.marinaretro.co.uk/shop/images/Large-Spot-Sml.gif I plan on using the dimensions found for her online to make the outfit.
And I now have a picture of my progress! IMAG1390 by Darque91, on Flickr It does look better irl xD You can more see the sparkles underneath the green.. Also, I just folded the top over, I haven't sewn that part yet, saving that for when I have all the "petals" on there xD
I think you could use some fancy trim in silver or gold from the fabric store for a headband. Or you could braid some silvery thread together if you can't find anything thin enough. I don't think it would look strange with bangs, just different from the picture. I'm not sure about the hanging bits.
Updated pics! The pants and socks are done. They look great with the boots. Due to a screwup in the waist of the pants, the waist area is a BIT too short. However, it's okay because it will be under at least a skirt, so it won't be obvious. If it bugs me too much, I'll make a second pair. Pic of the almost-pants! And the done pants.
These are my fabrics I'm going to make a sundress out of the Strawberry Shortcake fabric and bloomers from the strawberry patterned knit (it's actually a children's hoodie I got at a thrift store and wanted to use for doll clothes!) I have the bloomers cut but I haven't done anything else
Handsewing left on this dress. Fit is not fantastic but I can fix it after the fact. This is a Perfect Patterns pattern for a Tyler Wentworth doll that I blew up on the photocopier for my doll. Bust: Ok Waist: OK Hips: snug Collar: enormously tall! Oh well. She'll look like a space-opera villain. Back waist length OK below bust, too long above bust. Solution: take a curved tuck it so it looks even more like one of those Hong Kong dresses I will decorate it with braid/trim. Jacket is for another day. I might not make the jacket. It will be a LOT of brocade!
Change of plans. I didn't like the pants and couldn't get the top to form in my head or on paper. I have found an inspiration pic that I'm going to try and work with instead. This is one that I had in my harddrive for a bit, and I can't remember where I found it. I do not know who to credit with this pic, design or lovely doll, but please be aware that the image is NOT MINE. I will, however, be using this as inspiration for Sileas' outfit.
Thanks for the ideas ^^ I don't think I want the hanging bits, that would take away the girlyness I think. I just want it to be simple but beautifull I'll be looking for some suitable silvery threads ^^
I admitted defeat. Normally I do not use patterns, but the corset has to be PERFECT, so here is Sileas, wrapped up in saran wrap and Vampire Knight washi tape (No masking tape in the house XD) so that I could make a pattern for the corset. Next step: Muslin! That way I can make sure it fits how I want it.
Here's a sketch of what I plan on making: (Note: dotted lines indicate details that would otherwise be hidden under cape or hair) This will be mostly black with red accents (still figuring out exactly where the accents will be placed).
I probably won't get much done this week since I have a temp job. Happy to have work, but sad because I can't plan properly for my costume.
Got the corset part done! Not sure if I"m going to have a separate skirt, or attach it to the corset. Depends on how things shake out tomorrow. I'll be making a custom eye for her as well, and jewellery/accessories to go with it. Front: Back:
Here is a quick sketch of the Halloween dress that I'm planning to do for Aide. It just a simple black/gray dress with a pink belt to match the pink from the kitty ears hairband.
I also gathered my material. I already have the patterns but I need to make some modifications to it.
Last night I cut out the pieces of my adjusted pattern. I've decided to add an underskirt for volume, and may also add bloomers depending on how short the skirt comes out. I'll decide after I see the main pieces all sewn together. I have a bunch of laces and trims to add to different layers, but I'll decide which ones to use exactly when I'm a bit further along. I've decided to add another step to texturize the underskirt using the fairy skirt technique from bjdcollectasy. Not going to use interfacing on the corset/overdress since the corduroy I'm using isn't scale and I think it's stiff enough. I've decided to cut the front panel in half and give it corset lacing, and then I'll add a zipper up the back so I don't have to lace it to get it on and off. :P If I don't get a chance to start sewing tonight I'll get going tomorrow evening. Of course overnight I dreamed about a bioluminescing dress and my husband thinks I should scrap my current dress and do that instead. :P I'd like to finish this outfit before the weekend because a new body I ordered is in the mail and if it looks good with Zooka's head I'll wish I made this outfit for that one! Maybe that body can have a bioluminescing gown. :P
I have to say that I'm loving all of the designs for this project! I can't wait to see all the finished lovelies in their Halloween wear. Updated to add progress pics! The skirt, freshly pressed, before gathering. And after gathering, sewed to the corset. I was going to have it be a separate skirt, but I didn't think the finished product would be as good. This is just the basic dress, I will be adding the finishing touches to it, and beading. It's a BIT shorter than I wanted, so I'll be adding a pair of shorts underneath, to protect her modesty.
testrun for the Circle Skirt made out of a old piece of fabric. There is a tutu under it to give it a nice volume. SDC10054 by BJDfreak, on Flickr Ok in this picture are: The used fabrik for both outfits. The cut yellow patterns the draw butterfly details for the skirt black paint I use And some felt for a third costume if I finisch with this one tomorrow. SDC10055 by BJDfreak, on Flickr Before I forget I use patterns that I got from somebody but I have no cleu where she got them. So I can't give a link to them. And that are my updates so far.
Today I was able to sew/paint again. IMG_0058 by BJDfreak, on Flickr IMG_0057 by BJDfreak, on Flickr So I am done for these too. But I already started a 4th outfit. (1 I crochet) So I will not be bored in the last week before the halloween birthday Party.
XD AH dang! Missed a perfect opportunity to make myself do something halloween themed for when my boy gets here! Really enjoying all the costumes, ideas and pictures so far, keep up the good job guys!
Here is the top to Cho's outfit I am sorry that it is dark is from a cell phone I have her skirt and back bow done too all of what I am doing is hand stitched I am so happy!
A bad picture of my pattern for the skirt.. IMAG1363 by Darque91, on Flickr I ended up using the one without measurements written down on it.
Sileas' outfit is finished I haven't made the shorts yet, but you can't see them, so... she's pantsless for the moment. The corset and skirt were made of cotton cloth and stitched together when I realised the skirt separate didn't look right. I added the decorations and chains to the dress, used ribbon for the closure on the back of the dress, and added a clock winding gear for the Steampunk look. Her hairpiece and necklace were also made by me.
These are all turning out wonderfully! I visit this thread now and then to admire everyone's work! Keep it up!!
I'm done. I'm rather tired of these two costumes. Regina is a Hollywood rustic Gypsy. She has bangles and a wig that is too large. As long as I don't move her the wig will stay put. This is all cotton except for the blouse (silk twill) and the decorations. The purple flower stuff is iron on. Her bangles (5 on one arm and 7 on the other) are cheap metal finger rings from the thriftstore. Amelia is stylin' with an early 1930s Oriental-inspired dress, so she gets a short bleached blonde wig. This is a synthetic brocade, lined in rayon. The stockings come from Doll Secrets (a custom sized pair of Better Than Vintage) and the shoes are from some place on line, Suntek I think?
Almost done with Rue's Belle costume! I decided it didn't need an tulle underskirt and put wire in the hem to make a built-in hoopskirt. The thing I am having trouble with though is the shoes! Does anyone know of an easy LittleFee/yosd shoe pattern that I could beg, borrow or buy? Sewing or maybe crochet would be awesome! Curently my girl is a barefoot princess!
@Sjaan: I think I'll be using this pattern for ballerina shoes for my girl: http://p2.storage.canalblog.com/25/73/660041/60416371.pdf It's in french, and not for Yo-SD. But you can see how they make it, and resize it a bit (and of course use different fabrics) I don't know what kind of shoes you want to make? These are for Corolle "Les Chéries" and there are a lot of these tutorials online, on all different kinds of shoes (espadrils, mocassins, etc) But they are a different size, often though easy to resize ^^ Hope it helps you!
@Sodabeentjes THANK YOU!!!! thoes shoes are super cute, and they look quite easy to make! Thank you so much
@Sjaan: Glad I could help ^^ I got it off this page: http://madeintina.canalblog.com/archives/p50-20.html there are a lot of shoe ideas (and much more) all in french, but quite easy to follow with all the picture tutorials You have to scroll about halfway down, there is a part about Chaussures & chaussettes, you have to click on the orange text underneath for the tutorials ^^
@Sodabeentjes ooh, more fun things! Thank you so much for sharing! I just whipped up a pair of slippers for Rue, they came out pretty good - especially considering I accidentally made two left shoes LOL I will remake nicer ones when I am more awake, I just really didn't want her to have to go to the meetup barefoot! Ill also take pics at the meet tomorrow and post them - I can't wait to share but it is too dark for good photos right now
Patterns are ready!!! It's time to start sewing, hand sewing to be precise because is not easy to see for BBB tiny on the sewing machine.
Alright I can finally start on the doll clothes again today(Temp job is now over), still haven't made my pattern yet, but I am determined to finish on time.
Man, every time my e-mail updates me, I see more and more amazing things, this is just bloody incredible xD I really can't say enough about this project.
Hi guys, Everyones are progressing pretty fast! I'm currently trying to finish the basic part of my baby blue Renaissance dress. I also have some custom fantasy eyes in curing process the first bash (since I making some for my other doll) turn mostly right. Will show guys as soon as I get the photo upload.
Updated the list! Sorry I'm so quiet this time around, my Multiple Sklerosis had a flareup and I'm not that well... I haven't even started sewing yet, but I'm hoping that I'll get something done this week.
Here are my main fabrics: And here's a rough pin/pile to help me envision it. I had too much to do this weekend to get to sewing, but that's my plan for my evenings this week! Not sure I want to keep that lace...
Hope you feel better soon Keladry! I am super behind but I did finally get the extra bits I needed Halloween sewing supplies by vulpes_panthera, on Flickr The main fabric is spots not stripes but I still like it, I will be sewing tomorrow
Crappy phone picture, but here's a little update for me.. The cut pieces for the last petal on my petal skirt! :3 IMAG1422 by Darque91, on Flickr Which means, I'm almost done with my skirt!
