Wearables The Sewing Project! - [ Rounds 1 - 5 ]

May 31, 2012

    1. Hi everybody, please go here to find round 6!

      Hi everybody,

I've decided to get a bit more organized with my sewing, and also to motivate myself a bit more by setting myself small goals! And since I've found that groups motivate each other a lot, I thought I'd see if anybody wants to join me.

      Here's how it goes:

Every round, you try to make one complete outfit that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to the theme. During the three weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other.
      Rounds 1 - 5 are done!

    2. Rounds 1 - 5 are done!

      Round 1 : Summer Fun
      Round 2 : Mori Fashion
      Round 3 : Decora Fashion
      Round 4 : Halloween
      Round 5 : Winter Wonderland

    3. I'm looking forward to making my boy some newer clothes, especially since I've got a new overlocker to play with now :D

This is my lovely boy, Edmon ^^
      [IMG]

I'll hopefully be making a Japanese yukata style outfit if I can find a decent pattern (if not, I'll just have to wing it and make my own). It would include:
      • A pair of loose fitting pants.
      • A yukata style shirt in a similar (if not the same) material as the pants.
      • A small carry bag to take them all around in.

    4. I've been wanting to get back to sewing but I have a really hard time motivating myself, so maybe this will help! I'd love to join in.
I'm going to start with something simple, to ease myself back into it.

I'll be sewing for Rune, my EID Luo hybrid:

He needs some basics, so I'll be working on easy things:

      • A t-shirt or two
      • A pair of jeans that will fit his default legs and his hybrid SOOM feet
      • A pair of simple sandals, since it is almost summer.
If I am able to get those things done, I will try to tackle something bigger in the next round.

    5. Maybe this will finally motivate me to make the summer dress I've been thinking about!

My model is Angelina, my DoC Leya.

      She's going to get:

      ~ A cute summer dress
      * I'm planning on doing something like this.
      ~ A hairband
      * My own design, unless I have too many problems.
      ~ Some new undergarments
      * I'll mostly likely draft my own patterns unless I see something I really like.
      ~ A cute bag
      * My own design
      ~ Some summery sandals
      * Probably my own design.

    6. Oh, nice, this is off to a good start! :D

    7. I'd like to join, but my trouble is less starting things than finishing them. It wouldn't feel right to do a new project when I have a pile of "mostly complete" work.

    8. I know how the piles form! I have some stuff I still need to work on. But I like the theme!
      I'll make:
~a fluffy/ frilly lolita dress (dont know what pattern yet)
~some socks, she doesn't have any
~A sun hat, with a bow to match the dress.
~Probably some mary jane shoes to match.
(I'm thinkin all of these things will be blue and white.)

Oh my doll, doesn't have a name yet. >_< But shes a Qing model from AoD

    9. Oooh this is such a fun idea! Too bad I'm going to be busy all June :(

      I'll join if there's a second round though :)

    10. I'm happy people are joining! :) Saraquill, maybe you need to start a "Finish an outfit you were working on" project... ;)

    11. I ventured out today to pick up my supplies and I ended up buying material for a girls kimono instead, woops ^^" Perhaps I'll get the right supplies on my next trip out.

I just wish I knew a good place to get patterns :s

    12. hmm I know theres a forum that has a bunch of patterns. If there not exactly what you need then you can alter them a little bit so it works. Or i've figured out if you find an SD pattern you like, you can reduce the size by 60% and it will be MSD size. ^_^ (I dont know what size doll you have, but I hope that helps!)

    13. Wow Keladry this is an awesome idea! I can't help but join in, I have been procrastinating about sewing for my girls for a while now, I will have to post my info on Tuesday though... exam on Monday.

      Sounds fun :D

    14. My model is Train, a Dollmore/Fantasydoll hybrid.

This is just what I needed to get me started!
      I'll make:
a shirt -Gracefaerie pattern #23 The Poet -I'll need to modify it somewhat and eliminate the lace -no frills!
      pants -also from pattern #23

I already have the fabric -I was lacking the motivation! Today I will alter the shirt pattern and see if I need to alter the pants to fit.

    15. I really like Gracefaerie patterns, they are so easy to follow! ...although I managed to mess up a shirt last week. Entirely my fault, though!

    16. Oh boy, what a great idea Keladry...more inspiration and motivation! Just what I need!:)

My day-of-the-dead girl, Milagro, wants to join in on the fun. (Resinsoul Fei)

Milagro's style, believe it or not, is Mori Girl. I'll be making:
*an empire waisted summer dress in muted light tones of some kind
~I already have a dress pattern I've designed for this
      *lacy stockings
~I've already devised a pattern for these as well
*a lightweight cloak (hey, here in Tucson the temperatures drop drastically after sundown.);)
~this I'll be designing a brand new pattern for

    17. [IMG]

I want to enter Lydia, my NotDoll Belladonna. Poor woman has been borrowing everyone else's clothes and hasn't adaped her own style yet. I think I want her to be retro/hipster chic.

*Flared skirt dress with belt in a contrasting color.

      *hair flower barrette

      *shoulder shrug for cool nights

*under skirt to give both added color and volume to dress.

I've done this type of clothing using various tutorials here on DOA. I will look and cite patterns in a little while.
      Thanks!:aheartbea

    18. does this project require a pattern(s)?

    19. Keladry, sorry! I looked back at my post and I realized I meant to say thread. I think it's right at the top of the sewing and crafting forum. There's a post that just has a huge list of free downloadable patterns. (If you haven't seen that already. >_<)

    20. I've used this one before, a LONG time ago, I can't believe I didn't think of it! Thanks :D
To make it into a yukata-style shirt I'll just leave off the bottom part so it's shorter, and sew in some straps to tie it on with :3

    21. Resinsoulgirl, not at all! If you prefer to sew without a pattern, feel free to join anyway! This is really more about motivating each other to sew than to do it in a certain way. :)

Sometimes I sew without a pattern, as well, often by following one of Ragdoll's awesome tutorials:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/search.php?searchid=8022055

    22. hey when does this start? i wanna join but if it already started....

    23. Hi, we're currently in week one (until next thursday), which is for planning and deciding on patterns and so on, so we haven't actually started working yet! So you can still join in. :)

    24. I hawe Bimongs Chuu on Aidolls junior body girl and she really neds cloth ( + faceup + body modifikations) Hers name is Chami. I like seving and the most i sewing I do is for others and mine doll don't hawe that much cloth. This is a chance for one of them to get some :)))

      She needs:

      - wig
      - leggins
      - sveather ( the summer breeze is not that warm in sweden:)
      - some t-shirts
      - summer dress
      - shorts
      - headresser
      - stockings
      - a bag

And if Im lucky then my daugter can get her faceup next veek xD

    25. I join you.^^
Anne have this wonderful Dollheartdress, but no more.

      She needs:
      -blouse
      -skirt
      -petticoat
      -short cape?
-stockings (never made some, which fit o.O)

    26. Okay, after contemplating for a few days wether or not this is a good idea to start while working on a Cosplay for myself simultaneously .... I decided why the heck not! If I worked on the Cos 24/7 I'd go mad anyways so this will make for a wonderful repose as well as get some of the thoughts done I've had for my dolls in so long x3

So here I go with Elene, my Feeple70 Nanuri08
      [IMG]

I do hope the ideas I have in mind are in accordance with the theme but she really REALLY needs something 1001 nights inspired/arabian/haremstyle to fit in with her lover
      So that would be
      - 1001 night style pants
      - Top (either just a bra or something with sleeves - think Jasmine from Aladdin)
      - Veil
      - Jewlery, lots of it
      - maybe shoes but I'm not so confident on those

if that works out okay, I'd love to get a simple summerdress, outfit with shorts/longer flowing top done but as I said ... Coswork as well so I think I'm good with that one outfit *lol*
Looking forward to everyone's ideas and outcomes x33

    27. This is such a fun project! I have lots of pattern and fabric lying around screaming do something with it, but I'm not sure if I'll find the time. When is the last possibility to join? Thursday June 7th?

    28. Participating doll: Amaya, Shinydoll Youki(B)

SILK DRESS by Cia Moonchild, on Flickr

      Outfit:
Cap-sleeved boat-necked circle-skirt princess-seamed dress; Bloomers with built in suspenders; Stay-ups; Capelet; Tulle-underskirt (if the skirt of the dress requires it)

      Patterns:
      Will be drafter by me

    29. Yeah, by next thursday, you should've signed up! :)

    30. I'd like to join with my girl Rhode, if I may!

      This is Rhode:

      Rhode by jessicakrouse, on Flickr

      (She's currently face-up less, though)

I'll be making a simple skirt with pockets, a t-shirt dress with a drawstring waist, and a basic 3/4 length t-shirt. I'll be following instructions from "Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified"

    31. This sounds perfect for motivating me to make my big girl her summer togs! I've got fabric and ideas that I've been meaning to act on for a bit now.

My resin overlord for this shall be Mirai:

      She demands:

      A Mod jumper
      blouse/top
      stockings or spats
      shoulder bag
      and hat

any other assorted pieces I can make her from my stash of patterns and fabrics...

For the jumper I'm resizing a human pattern. I'll probably be drafting the top and stockings (or spats). I might adapt the Kitty's Gray Should Bag free pattern from Adam Harris for her bag. The hat will either be a freebie I have or a human pattern that I've got sitting around. Not sure yet, but it's going to be a newsboy cap either way.

    32. This 3 week system is great, the time to start sewing is right after my last final.
I'll be sewing for Walter, he really needs more cloths.

      I'll be making:
      -A yukata
      -Sandals
      -Swim trunks
And if I finish the first three maybe he'll be getting a summery renaissance fair outfit too.
      -Poet shirt
      -Light vest
      -Pants

For patterns, I'll figure it out as I go.

    33. Ah! I'll join this because I need to make an outfit, but can't find the motivation (I got really sick earlier this week, ugh).
This is Allison Loraine, a Kid Delf Darae. She's so cute, even naked, but I would love her to have more clothes!
I'm going to be making her:
      -A sundress, something very summery
-Leggings/Stockings (not really sure which, or if I'll do both)
-A baggy, off-the-shoulder sweater (for those cool days ;))
-A fleece Panda Hat-already started, but needs to be finished

As for patterns, I'm making them all myself.

    34. Well I do have a lot of Me sized:sweat sewing to do but poor Zillah didn't get anything new since last... year,so count me in!
will edit with more info when I'll be actually awake it's 1 in the morning right now.;)
Ok me again! And this is Zillah (AOD msd v.1 Chen) just out of bed.

Since he's usually warring mostly punkist outfit I will stay in this style but a bit more relaxed:
      >sleeveless T-shirt
      >arm warmers
      >bondage pant or my punck version of a sarouel , I'm not really sure of this part yet.
basically I'll be trying to put more color in his usual black.

    35. Rise`s anorexic compared to my other dolls, and I need some sort of outfit perfect for her, stain-free.
Though I want her to be a casual dresser, she wants not.

      HOMG! by KimaLucifer, on Flickr

      A loose Beige dress
chiiffon underskirt (maybe green, not sure yet)
      Scarf.
      Socks

If I manage this in time, maybe a set of undies will also be included.

    36. Good luck, everyone! I wanted to join, but I am heck-bent on finishing a pair of shoes, and then diving into the basket for the rest of the almost-dones.

    37. I went a bit crazy and managed to finish my shirt already ^^" If I end up with time left over I'll try adding something else to my project :3

    38. Okay, I'm gonna join!
My JID is feeling a little ignored lately so I'm going to cheer her up a bit.
      This is Tayler:
      Portrait by rabbittut, on Flickr
And I am planning on making her:
A dress/ long shirt, something with pockets on the front
      shorts, possibly bloomers
      maybe a hair accessory?
I'm using this picture for inspiration, I think I'll make it shorter though so the shorts with show.
Got some buttons in mind too.
I'll probably go pattern free for the top, but I'll need to make one for the shorts.

    39. Wow, so many people... I've added everybody to the participants list in the first post!

fleacollar, that's a book I've been debating on getting for a while! Let us know if it was easy to use?

    40. Looks like you've really hit upon a great idea here, Keladry! Awesome that so many people are joining.

I dug into my insanely huge folder of images from COPA that I've been hording since they had a free week about three years ago now. It took a while to find the one I'd been thinking of, but I dug out the images for the jumper I'm recreating for Mirai.

I'm doing version C from this image. I'm making it just above knee length so she doesn't show off... well everything... everytime she sits down. Instead of that pink/lilac, it's going to be a bright and spunky orange denim. Orange clothing is Mirai's signature most of the time, and the newsboy cap will be in the same fabric. The shirt to go under it will be white, but I'm not sure which fabric or the exact style yet. Mirai's not a turtleneck kind of girl, so probably either a very fitted top or one with some poet style sleeves. I have a cotton, a silk, and a stretch lace in my fabric bin. Gonna see if any of them give me ideas.

    41. I've been meaning to get on this, so I will be using my new boy. He needs his own clothes, poor boy has been borrowing his sisters.

Anyway, here is my elven prince:
      DSCN1049 by ravensfeathers, on Flickr

      He needs;
Elven wear: tunic, leather pants, riding cloak, belt, and scabbard
Casual wear: button down shirt, wife beater shirt, and jeans
      Other things: new faceup

I'm going to draft some slopers for all this, as I have done for his sister. I was using Revolutionarycake's sloper tutorial, but we never got to pants, so any suggestions on a book would be great.

    42. My Shuang Er only seems to have a bathing suit and a makeshift wig, so this will definitely motivate me to make actual stuff for her!

      Look at the poor girl.

      She needs/I will make:
An actual wig of the correct color. (seriously, forest green long wigs are impossible to find that fit without spending big bucks)
Shorts (What is summer without shorts?)
      Dress
Light Short Sleeved Jacket (For those cool summer nights)
A better fitting Bathing Suit/Undergarment (For swimming to ditch the heat!)

I am unsure if I can get what I need for the wig, but the rest of the stuff is fairly easy, at least once I iron out how I am going to do that dress.

    43. Keladry-- I find the book immensly helpful, and it is cool to sew something you made the pattern for. It teaches you when to use all the measurements, so I'm going to try and make a skirt using those skills but without the book.

    44. Sorry I changet my mind and the doll, Is Chami ( Bimongs Chuu hybrid) now which will get complet make ower and new wardrobe:)

      Post : #25

    45. I uh, should note my doll is a DD Rise, so her name and mold are the same.

I did some patterning today. I feel accomplished

    46. Since I'm going a little too fast with my current project, I've decided to make a basic kimono for my Iplehouse JID Tania, who arrived in the mail today ^w^
I'll be posting pictures of her kimono material soon~

    47. [IMG]

My girl Sonico (obitsu vmf50) needs some clothes, she has been complaining to me for weeks, to match with the summer feel I will make her a light cotton dress top and short shorts.

I want to make something like this:

Except in pink for the top with white shorts. I am not sure about the cardigan yet.

Can't wait to start, will start looking at materials tomorrow xD

    48. Hm Patternmaking going rather slow but then again ... for Harem style pants and a bustier I don't think I'm gonna need all that much of a pattern anways.

Would it be off topic here to just ask who's planning to do hand-sewing vs machiene workers? ^^ Just curious as I tried both with mixed results ... but it also depends largly on the doll I'm working for ... anything above 60cm seems ... strenous by hand ... especially since I'm rather bad at it xD

    49. Im Joining too! I just got my girl doll yesterday and she's itching to have new clothing!
      This is pepper:

Pepper wants me to make her a few things:
      This bathing suit
      this outfit
      and most importantly these shoes

she has graciously said that the top and the shoes can be in different colors but they have to match in the end. This will be my first step into making shoes and i hope that it goes well. Im very excited and slightly nervous about it. The outfit and bathing suit shouldnt be a problem so the shoes will take up most of my time <3

eta: pintrest is a wonderful place to get and store clothing idea both my girl and boy and a friends doll has a board on my pintrest. Also acessories are not included in the outfit just top and shorts and maybe undies too

    50. I'm sure it's fine to ask about sewing techniques in this thread.:) Fortunately I'm fairly accomplished at both hand-sewing and machine sewing. I use the machine for whatever I can because it gives me a nice neat line, but certain fabrics and finishes absolutely require hand-sewing. Because my dolls are MSD sized and smaller, I'll often hand-sew pieces that are too small for the machine to comfortably handle. And some super-stretchy fabrics or delicate fabrics that require a light touch I'll hand-sew as well. When hand-sewing seams, I always use a back stitch.

    51. I use a machine pretty much 100%, but I am a total noob and it gives me hell either way...

Half finished my pattern for the shorts. I got the basic pattern down but I am not sure what to do about the top, I want to put a button etc. like normal pants but I have never done it before... will have to look at some of my clothes to try and figure it out....

    52. I primarily use machine, but I will hand sew when needed (difficult fabrics, some fasteners, etc.)

The jumper resizing is going well. Still making some decisions about the pieces that will go with it.

    53. I'd love to joint too!
I'm gonna work for my lovely Rensie that is a DZ Yume.
      Rensie di KillingSissy, su Flickr
She's a kawaii super sweet vampire
She want me to do something in fairy kei style, that will make her feel super funny and sweet.
      So I was thinking about:
      example 1
      example 2
      example 3
So i think i'm gonna make her.
      a pair of bloomers shorts
a summer tee with a kawaai print
      a lightwigt cardigan for evening
      a pair of socks
      a pair of shoes/boots
      and some accessories.

I'm happy to join 'cause in the latest period since i've problems with job in real life i sew mostly for commissions and shop to help my family and i want to start to do something for my dear dollies to keep in theyre own wardrobe, cause they are in need of restyle and more care from me.
So i'm happy to share this experience with all of you!!
Tomorrow i'l start to select fabrics that suite her tastes from my boxes!!!

    54. Well, I got the shirt done this weekend. It turned out well, and it fits, but... I think I need to fix the sleeves. I decided to omit the elastic and forgot that I didn't need so much material! The sleves are wide enough to make acutal cuffs with a snap closure so I'll give it a go. I choose to sew by hand as I'm not to skilled with a machine. So this week I'll fix the shirt and psych myself up for the pants!

    55. I'm going to join with my boy, Junpei! He's a Resinsoul Feng. I'm going to make him a nice yukata for summer, it'll be the first thing i make him C: And a bathing suit!

      Pic:

    56. 1st part of my workflow tee
First of all a little bit of research on how to be on style. I'm 36 old woman, I'm not so old but....I need a little bit of help with younger popular fashion!!XD
So here are the basic style rules.OK I've got the style clear in mind!XD
      Second tee design.
I think that I'm in need of a proper image to print on my tee and to be in theme I've started thinking about popular cute stuff of eighties when a was a child and what i've loved most...and between a ton of sweetest memories suddenly i've remebered about Iridella... I think in english the name of the crachter is rainbow brite.
my first school diary was the iridella diary soo this will be my tee theme.
my favourite carachter was the green iridella friend called Patty O' Green
So I think she'll be my choice.
I'd love to use an original image of her, but do you thin that there's something bad with it?
It's for my personal use and not to sell.I'd love to hear your opinions about it.
I can try to re-design it in my own way....but i'm not sure that the final effect will be the same!XD
      Third tee shape
I want it to bee a little bit loose and not short.
I'll try to rework the pattern I usually use for sleveles tee in order to adapt the shape.

    57. kscness-- you would want to get the artist's permission, if you can track them down, after all, they might want to see it! Why not get somebody here to do an image for you? I know that I like to draw and would be happy to do one for you, if you liked my style.

    58. kscness, many of those seem to just be images from the cartoons. Many people use those kind of images on doll clothing (contacting the original cartoonists would be impossible.) We're not selling or making a profit off their work and I believe it falls into the realm of fandom (like people who make themselves Star Trek costumes for science fiction conventions.) You see popular tv themes all the time on doll hoodies and t-shirts.
